Two bands, one goal, and a second chance…

Everything is finally going well. I have a new band, a new label, and a debut album coming out. And then my drummer breaks his wrists. Just my luck. I need a quick replacement to record one more song, but my options are limited, and of course, the obvious candidate hates my guts. Okay, so I may have given him a few reasons over the years, but isn’t there an expiration date on holding a grudge?

I don’t trust Declan McNamara. Sure, he’s talented, smart, and has more sex appeal than any one person should be allowed. And yeah, he may be a rock star in the making, but beware—he’s trouble. However, our new record label’s survival may depend on a truce and extreme measures…of the fake boyfriend variety. If it’s our best shot at the big time, I’m willing to set the past aside and start over…here and now.

Starting From Here is a MM, bisexual romance rock and roll style…rival bands, fake boyfriends, and a second chance at a new love story. Each book in the Starting From series can be read as a stand-alone.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Starting From Here is the third book in the Starting From series by one of my favorites, Lane Hayes. I’m loving this series, and let me tell you, Lane turns up the heat with Declan and Tegan! I knew when we met these two their story was going to be explosive. They have a backstory that was so sweet I almost cried. I love a good best friends to enemies to lovers story! There is bad blood between the bands Zero and Jealousy, but now they are on the same label and they have to work together. Charlie is all over that as their manager. But on top of that, Jealousy needs to record a new song for their album and Tegan is the only one who can help. They need him and his drumming talent. Declan wrote a great song. A fantastic song. And Tegan doesn’t want to help him, but he is going to. In exchange for a favor. Come over and see his mom. She’s sick and she misses him. They have been friends since they were four and Declan has been missing his friend these past years when Tegan has hated him. Turns out, Tegan has been missing him too. It was easier to hate than to admit his feelings though. One thing that all that tension fuels is passion and these two have it times a million! The angry kisses. The biting, the pushing, the heat. Oh my! I thought my kindle was going to catch fire! But when they have to be together on tour and fake a relationship, their real one is still building behind closed doors. They let go of the hate and you know what they say about love and hate. I loved watching these two childhood friends connect again. Not just physically. The emotion, the conversations. Watching them learn about each other again was…magic. Tegan is such a romantic! Declan is open about how he feels. Tegan has always been his home. Together, they are talented, passionate and combustible! I wanted to hear them play and sing together. And the grand gesture! Oh man! I was crying my eyes out. Overall, it was fantastic! Might be my favorite of the series! I felt incredibly satisfied with their story, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want more!

Dec was the kind of handsome that turned heads. All he had to do was flash one of this million-dollar grins, and he could have anyone he wanted.

“What happened?”

“I think we just got Charlied.”

“I hate to tell you this, honey…but if you’re afraid to lose, you’ll never win. You have to be brave, Tegan. There’s not other way.” ~ Tegan’s mom

The sound of cheerful squealing rang in the background before she hung up. I stared into space for a minute or two, feeling very…alone. I didn’t want to slip into teenage levels of self-pity. There was really nothing lamer than a privileged grown-ass adult whining about mommy issues. I flipped through television channels, pausing on a special about great white sharks. Then I tossed the controller aside and picked up my cell again.

Would you ever swim with sharks?

My phone buzzed immediately. I smiled when Tegan’s name lit the screen. Are you high?

I wish. Swimming with sharks is a thing. People get in cages and film themselves being surrounded by predators…for fun.

People are fucking crazy.

What are you watching?

National Geographic. I was hoping for a sex in the wild segment, but I got sharks instead.

Shark sex?

I grinned. Nope. I don’t think I’m ready for that.

It’s not exciting. Fish sex is seriously unhot.

My chuckled morphed into a belly laugh as I sank deeper into the cushion. I shared a quick story about the saucy squirrels who were getting it on outside my window last spring. Tegan teased me for being a rodent voyeur, then recommended a few human porn sites I might appreciate instead.

Btw, it’s officially midnight. Congrats.

I stared at the screen for a moment. I typed and erased two or three thank-yous that seemed a little too effusive. I didn’t want to come across as too excited or too grateful and somehow clingy, so I gave up and pressed Call.

“Are you really fucking calling me?”

I chuckled. “Yeah. I am. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. But it’s midnight, and I hate talking on the phone, so good ni—”

“Don’t hang up.”

“What’s wrong?”

I stared at the TV unseeing. “Nothing. I just…I’m keyed up and I need someone to talk to. What was your first release like? I know Zero’s record is still doing well. But…what was like in the beginning? How’d you feel?”

“You want the truth?”

“It was anticlimactic.”

“Oh. That’s kind of depressing.”

“No, it’s just life. Nothing ever happens as fast as you want it to. You’ve got to be patient and keep doing your thing,” he advised. “We came home from our summer tour thinking we made it. What didn’t turn into superstars, but we made progress. And every day it gets better. But who knows what will happen? Maybe you’ll wake up at number one. Just stay positive and…stop torturing yourself.”

I smiled when Tegan’s uplifting advice gave way to exasperation. It was cute.

“It’s what I do. I excel at the art of self-sabotage. Ask my mom. If I bomb, you can be sure she’ll be the first one to say ‘I told you so.’ She’ll choose her words carefully, though. She’ll be kind-ish before she gently suggests that it’s time to throw in the towel and join the family firm. Fuck my life.”

“But it’s your life. The honor of making mistakes or kicking ass is all yours. You wrote those songs to be heard. Not everyone will love what you do, but plenty of people will. You just gotta be right in your own head. Ask yourself if you gave your best. Did you?”

“Of course.”

“You’ll do just fine, then. If you sell a million copies, great. If not, you’ll still learn something.”

“Thanks. I needed that,” I said softly.

“You’re welcome. Now go to sleep.”

“I’m an almost rock star, and it’s midnight. My night is just beginning,” I lied, stifling a yawn.

“Have fun, rock god,” he snorted.

“I’m kidding. I’m channel surfing.”

“You mean porn surfing?”

I barked a quick laugh. “No, I get my porn on the internet like everyone else. I was watching that show about hoarders. It made me feel better somehow.”

“You’re a freak. Get your computer and jack off. You’ll feel better, and you’ll sleep better,” he advised sagely.

“Thanks, Dr. Monroe. I’ll report back in the morning.”

“Not necessary. Especially if there’re boobs involved.”

“I watch more dick porn than chick porn. I watched a great locker room scene last night. The coach and the quarterback. Sexy as fuck.”

“Are you really sharing a spank-bank story?”

“Yeah, you want the link?”

“I said I’d take the couch.” He straightens his glasses and frowns at me like he’s debating if I need CPR.

“Oh…um…okay.” I dip my head and scurry out of the bathroom, taking in big gulps of air.

I spot my suitcase on the sofa beneath the large bay window and make my way over to it like a lifeline. If I can focus on my bag, Dean can’t see my red cheeks, and I’ll have time to stop thinking about sex or showers or naked bodies.

Damn him. Why did he have to bring up sex in the car? I was doing just fine until he opened his big, stupid, flirtatious mouth.

With shaky hands, I unzip my suitcase, and the second I peel open the flap, my entire body seizes in panic. I gasp and slam it closed as fast as humanly possible.

“What’s the matter?” Dean asks, his footsteps heavy as he rushes over to stand beside me. He stares at my suitcase that I’m white-knuckle holding shut right now.

“Nothing!” I turn to sit on it.

Dean frowns at me, a laugh teasing the edges of his mouth. “Not nothing. What was in there? A mouse or something?”

I level him with a look. “A mouse, Dean? How the hell would a mouse get in my suitcase?”

He laughs. “I don’t know. You’re clearly freaked out about something in there, so just tell me what it is.”

I shake my head from side to side.

“Norah,” he says my name again and steps closer to me, wafting me with his freshly showered body and that deliciously seductive cologne. “I’m going to find out one way or another.”

“It’s none of your business,” I state woodenly and feel my cheeks heat.

“Bullshit,” Dean says with a sardonic grin and before I realize what’s happening he bends over, grabs my wrist, and yanks my entire body up over his shoulder.

“Dean, stop it!” I cry out as his hands cup the backs of my bare thighs. “Put me down!”

“Not until I see what you’re hiding in there.” He turns and walks me toward the bed.

“I told you it’s none of your business!” I kick my legs in a feeble attempt to break free. He just laughs and holds on tighter.

“You’re my girlfriend…you’re my business.”

I growl as I bite my lip to prevent myself from yelling the truth of our situation and outing us to whoever is probably sleeping above us. Dean tosses me onto the bed like I weigh nothing and then turns to head back toward my suitcase.

I scramble off the pillowy-soft mattress and jump on his back just as he reaches my bag. Before I can stop him, he flips it open, and I die a thousand deaths when the pink object comes into full view for both of us to see.

“Holy shit,” Dean says, his voice full of awe as he reaches down and picks up my pretty in pink bullet that, hours ago, was stashed safely away in my bathroom drawer.

I slide off his back and shove his stunned body away from my bag to snatch my vibrator out of his hand. “I’m mortified. Are you happy now?” I turn and tuck it away in a zippered pocket inside my suitcase. Rachael could have at least put it in its matching pink travel bag.

She is so getting dumpster duty next week.

Dean stares at me, his bearded jaw dropped as struggles for words for the first time in his life. “Norah, that was a vibrator.”

“No shit, Captain Obvious.”

He runs a hand through his dark hair and hits me with a disbelieving look. “Norah, if you were so hot for an orgasm that you needed to pack a sex toy for the weekend, we seriously need to revisit this no sex policy you have.”

“I didn’t pack it,” I snap, pushing back my hair and scrubbing my hand over my forehead. “Rachael did because I was working and struggling with what to wear, so she came in and took over because she’s a monstrous human being who will be dead very soon.”

Dean hits me with a flat look. “Seriously?”

“Yes! God, I’m not that desperate for an orgasm.”

“But that is your toy?” he replies, watching me expectantly.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but yes.” I drop onto the couch and cover my face in humiliation.

After a moment of silence, the cushion dips beside me, and I can feel Dean’s heat on my side. “I’m going to ask you a serious question, Norah, and I want you to reply honestly.”

I pull my hands away from my face to look at him, my hands clenching into fists because I’m certain there’s a horrible joke coming my way.

His eyes rove over my face before he tilts his chin and says, “Norah, when was the last time you were properly fucked?”

Release Blitz & Reviews – Virgin Seeks Bad Boy, Lili Valente

October 2, 2020 By

This is all his fault. Him, Nick Geary, the bad boy who kissed me senseless against his car a month ago, awakening the sleeping sex beast inside me, only to treat me like a little sister ever since.

Before Nick and I locked lips, I had no idea I could feel hungry for someone’s kisses.

I would give up cupcakes for life for a chance to have Nick be my first, but he’s got one rule–No V-Cards.

But he has to feel the same pull I feel, he just has to–the kiss we shared was hot enough to set fire to a glass of sweet tea.
All I have to do is figure out a way to change his mind…

Nick’s the one who brought this wild, new curiosity inside me to life, and I’ll be darned if I’ll give up on my bad boy before I find out if our second kiss is as hot as our first.

And if we happen to fall madly in love along the way, well…stranger things have happened. Right?

Virgin Seeks Bad Boy is a “losing it” romance previously published as Wild For You. It has been heavily revised and expanded for this new edition.

5 out of 5 stars

Virgin Seeks Bad Boy is the third book in the Bliss River series by Lili Valente. It can be read as standalone but I recommend reading the series since they are all so much fun. After reading Dating Dr. Dreamy I was so hoping these two would get a story and now it’s here!

Melody is a good girl. She goes to church on Sundays, she doesn’t go out past ten, she doesn’t break the rules. But, with her twenty-third birthday around the corner, she feels stuck. She is also starting to see that bending some of her rules is exciting and eye-opening. Especially after that kiss. An unforgettable kiss shared with Nick. Her brother-in-law’s little brother, and a cater-waiter for her sister’s catering business, the one she cooks for. It was a kiss to end all kisses but since then Nick hasn’t come back for more. She knew he was a bad boy but she was tired of him looking at her as just a little sister, a delicate flower, a goody-goody two-shoes who didn’t know what she wanted. And, she wants him. Badly.

Nick wanted her. He did from the moment he laid eyes on her but he couldn’t go there. Not again. She would make him fall and he didn’t want either of them to get hurt. She was too sweet for all that. She was a good girl and he was the black sheep of the family. It just wouldn’t work. He was just settling back into Bliss River as tattoo artist and cater-waiter. He knew her family wouldn’t approve of them being together so why start. He had to stay away, and that was the plan until it all changed.

Melody and Nick’s relationship is not all that complicated once they start to see the more sides of each other. They are more than just the virgin and bad boy. They are opening up. Growing up. And it’s beautiful, fun, and adventurous throughout the book. I just loved them together. They just fit. They get it. Will Melody’s family give them the seal of approval? And, if not, will they even care?

Overall…I loved it. Melody and Nick are so much fun! I laughed. I cried. I laughed some more. I swooned. These characters are lovable, sexy, and finding their way.

“I know what I want,” I say, standing up straighter.

“Do you really, Princess?” he asks in a husky voice. “You sure about that?”

“As long as you’re not being mean to me or someone else, I don’t give a fuck about your language,” she says sweetly.

I choke on my waffle in response, and Melody starts laughing. Hard.

“You’ve got a little devil in you, Nick Geary,” she says, narrowing her eyes.

“One of the many things you love about me, right?”

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Virgin Seeks Bad Boy is the third book in the Bliss River series by the talented Lili Valante. It’s a great addition to the series with Melody, Aria and Lark’s little sister and Nash’s younger brother. Melody is a good girl. Listens to her parents, never takes risks. Nick loves taking risks, owns a tattoo shop and knows he should stay away from Melody. But after one kiss neither one of them wants to walk away. Should they? Yes. Do they? Nope. Not everyone is happy about them being together, but they aren’t going to listen to anyone but each other. They want to try. They want to fall in love. They may be young, but they aren’t stupid. I loved this couple! Melody is smart, funny and insightful. Nick is sexy, smart and is the perfect match for Melody. Overall, I loved it! I laughed, teared up, swooned and I love all these characters!

Audio: I always enjoy listening to Lili narrate her own books. She uses her voice and emotion to be the character. Connor Crais is a new to me author and I really liked his voice! I’ll definitely be listened to Lili and Connor again!

Author Bio:

Author of over forty novels, USA Today Bestseller Lili Valente writes everything from steamy suspense to laugh-out-loud romantic comedies. A die-hard romantic and optimist at heart, she can’t resist a story where love wins big. Because love should always win.

When she’s not writing, Lili enjoys adventuring with her two sons, climbing on rocks, swimming too far from shore, and asking “why” an incorrigible number of times per day. A former yoga teacher, actor, and dancer, she is also very bendy and good at pretending innocence when caught investigating off-limits places.

You can currently find Lili in the mid-South, valiantly trying to resist the lure of all the places left to explore.

Lili also writes super naughty books as L. Valente.
