Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Take A Number is Amy Daws’ newest laugh out loud, sexy, sweet and addicting fake romance! It can be read as a standalone, but if you’ve read Next In Line and One Moment Please you have met Dean. Scruffy, glasses wearing, sharp dressing, smart and funny, Dean. Seriously, this man! Only Dean could say inappropriate things and still be endearing. I knew his story was going to be freaking gold and I was right. This might be Amy’s sexiest, funniest book so far and that’s saying something! Dean invested in Norah’s bakery. He goes in there for her famous croinuts and even works from there. It has nothing to do with his attraction to her. At all. He can’t help staring at her and flirting with her and saying inappropriate things. It’s just who he is. He’s smooth, put together and laid back. Norah has been working pretty much her entire life to fulfill her dream of owning a bakery. And now she’s about to own two and eventually franchise. She never really had time to date or have fun. Her mother is pressuring her to give her grandbabies but Norah just wants to bake and work. Not have a relationship. But she needs a fake date to her parents’ anniversary party and Dean is just the guy. Turns out he needs a favor in return, a date to Kate’s wedding. It’s the perfect solution. Fake date for a few weeks. Norah even has rules and a list. Dean loves how uptight she is, but he wants her to loosen up and have some fun. Fun makes her nervous and sweaty and she can’t believe how calm Dean always is! It’s really annoying. Dean invites Norah to the joint bachelor/bachelorette party out of town. Together for the weekend. One bed. What can go wrong? Norah realizes rules were meant to be broken and Dean doesn’t stand a chance at resisting her. Fake sexing for the win! They can do this, they are friends and business partners (kind of) and adults. But what happens when Norah wants more and Dean doesn’t think he can give it to her? Will he let the only woman who’s ever made him feel alive slip through his fingers? Oh. My. Lord. Dean! Seriously, good God that man is fine! I love everything about him from his glasses to his loud outfits to his sharp tongue. It was a pleasure to watch the player fall. And Norah is perfect for him! She isn’t immune to his charms but she’s not falling at his feet and swooning like all the other women. She’s strong, independent, gorgeous and knows what she wants out of life. Together they are the perfect fit! Overall, I laughed the entire time, got butterflies, had to fan myself and cried! The perfect romance!

“God, you’re a pig. You look so put together and professional, and then you open your mouth and ruin everything.”

“Some people find it charming.”

“My cookies have been well taken care of recently, so why the hell would I want to dip them in someone else’s milk?”

“It’s all that stupid flirting you did with me in the bakery, back when I was Luke Danes and you were Lorelai Gilmore.”

“Wait…I thought I was Luke.”

“No, I’m the bakery owner, I’m Luke.”

“Why do I have to be the girl?”

“I think we should talk first.”

“Kate and Lynsey warned me this was something boyfriends had to do a lot.”

“OH MY GOSH, AMY! Take A Number has honestly been your BEST, FUNNIEST, and SEXIEST romantic comedy to date, and I absolutely LOVED Dean and Norah’s story! And I truly mean that wholeheartedly! I laughed, smiled, and swooned my romance-loving heart out from start to finish, and absolutely loved every moment of Dean and Norah’s funny, sexy, and swoon-worthy fake-dating story. I know readers are going to lose their minds when they get their hands on this MUST READ romcom.” -Julia Griffis

“This is a disaster,” I groan and turn to prop my elbows on the bar. “Can I get another champagne, please?”

Dean sidles up next to me as the bartender fills my glass. “What’s up, sugar? I think your dad likes me.”

I pin him with a warning look. “If you add tits to the end of that sugar, your balls must have a death wish.”

“Why so cheery?” Dean asks, hunching over the bar to sip his brown liquor out of a rocks glass. “Did your mother give you a puppy again? That Elaine.”

“My mother invited Nathaniel here tonight,” I state flatly.

“The perfect teeth guy?”

“So, what’s the big deal?”

I pin him with an accusing look. “She gave him the impression I was here for him. Like I was some lonely sack who couldn’t get a date even if I wanted to. Jesus, this is embarrassing.”

“Relax.” Dean turns to face the party and rests his elbows behind him like he doesn’t have a care in the world. “We’ll just have to break some of your rules.”

“What do you mean?” I grab a nut from the bowl on the bar and chew on it nervously.

“Well, if you want this guy to steer clear, then a little PDA might be in order.”

“What kind of PDA?” If he says kissing, I’ll spontaneously combust.

Dean seems to read my mind and rolls his eyes. “Relax, sugar cake, I mean a little…affection. Maybe we dance. Maybe I put my arms around your waist or play with your hair a little. Or maybe we get practically pornographic, and I waffle your fingers.” He laughs casually. “Something to show your mother this Nate guy doesn’t have a chance.”

I nod thoughtfully as I process what Dean’s just said. He mentioned touching me so casually like it’s no big deal. I suppose it isn’t since he seems to flirt with anything that walks. But I’ve been out of the game for a while now, and I can count on one hand the number of people I’ve been affectionate with, and even those were years ago. Is this really something I can pull off?

“Norah, drink the rest of that champagne. It’s going to be fine.”

I close my eyes, letting his words sink in while feeling anything but fine. “Okay, just promise you won’t try to kiss me. I’m barely holding it together as it is, and if I have to worry about you breaking the ultimate rule, I won’t survive this night.” I tip the rest of the champagne into my mouth.

“Relax, I won’t tongue thrust you in front of all your parents’ friends. I’m a mountain manwhore, but I draw the line at lip raping.”

Blog Tour, Reviews & Excerpt – I Promise You, Ilsa Madden-Mills

October 15, 2020 By

“Another touchdown for Ilsa Madden-Mills! It’s glittery sports romance perfection.” —Tia Louise, USA TODAY Bestselling Author

I Promise You, an all-new sweet and sexy, new adult, sports romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills is available now!

Dillon McQueen: Babe. I promise. You want me. Serena Jensen: Um, who are you?

There’s a legend at Waylon University: the first girl you kiss freshman year at the bonfire party is the one you’ll never forget. She’ll crawl under your skin and never leave. She’ll spark a passion so fierce you’ll burn the world down to possess her.

You might even put a ring on it.

As in all things with fate, timing is everything. That kiss can go horribly wrong. She might run in the opposite direction. And boy, did Serena run.

Dillon is Waylon’s hotshot quarterback with something to prove. All he wants is to graduate and make it to the NFL. What he doesn’t need is to finally meet the mystery girl he kissed at the bonfire freshman year. Isn’t it enough that she’s haunted his dreams for more than a thousand nights?

Fate laughs in his face when he runs into the quirky girl at the Piggly Wiggly. Surrounded by his entourage, he’s got all the Oreos in his cart; she gets revenge by buying every six-pack of his favorite beer.

Obviously, that legend is a curse. She’s not his type and hates him. Worst of all, how can she not remember him when she left a Serena-shaped hole in his heart for the past three years?

So why can’t he stop trying to win her?

Will this quarterback score the girl or make the biggest fumble of his life?

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

I Promise You is the newest standalone in the Waylon University books. I can’t get enough of Ilsa’s books, her heroes or her heroines. I’m addicted to them and I’ve stopped being surprised that every book I read of hers becomes my favorite. Every leading man steals my heart and every leading lady kicks butt and takes names. We’ve met Dillon before and his story is everything I wanted it to be and more! It’s emotional, silly, fun, awkward, sexy, aggravating and a little sad at times. There’s a legend about the person you kiss at the freshman bonfire. Dillon fell for it and the mystery girl. But he never saw her again until three years later. Now it’s his mission to get her to pay attention to him. To see him. To want him like he wants her. It’s a promise, and he never forgets a promise. Serena isn’t about to fall for his charms. Or his sexy jawline. Or his abs. Nope. Been there done that has the baggage to prove it. But man is Dillon relentless. He shows up at her house. Keeps running into her on campus. It’s like fate is helping him out. Dillon is usually so smooth with women. He never has to work hard. He’s a football player and he’s good looking, girls just fall at his feet. But Serena isn’t swayed by his status. And he can’t seem to say the right things. He gets awkward and stammers and can’t get it right. But it’s endearing and sweet and shows Serena the real him. Is it possible to fall for someone after one kiss? To find your forever with one look? Oh man. This story! Dillon and Serena have so much in common and that makes them more vulnerable to each other, but it makes them more real. You can’t hide that kind of connection. My heart was breaking for him and the tears were streaming down my face. But he also made me laugh out loud and want to give him hugs, and pat his head and say “bless his heart.” Serena is strong, driven and trying to forget her past. They are both a little broken, but a lot hopeful. Overall, I loved it. I laughed, cried, swooned, cried again and smiled a lot. Dillon just makes me happy!

“Do you like me, you know, as a person? Check yes or no.” He squints at me as if dreading the answer.

He is irresistible.

“I check yes” I feel like a twelve-year-old talking to the popular guy.

He exhales. “Thank you, Jesus.”

“I can’t believe I just said that. I can’t get anything right with you. Kill me now.”

Oh. He’s getting it right. He’s part smooth charmer, part uncertain college by, and it ticks all my boxes. Help.

Put the D in me, football player.

Sandra's Review

I Promise You is Ilsa Madden-Mills’ newest sports romance. You can read as a standalone but I do recommend reading I Dare You, I Bet You, and I Hate You since they are all connected to the Waylon University football team. Like I said though, you don’t have to but I promise you, you will want to afterwards. I was first introduced to Dillon in I Bet You and I was so excited when I read he was getting his own book.

Three years. That’s a long time to think about one kiss. With a total stranger in the dark next to a bonfire. Three years of wondering what her name was. Where she was. What she was doing now. Did she graduate? Was she with someone else? Did she even remember him? She ran off and never looked back. He looked for her. And now, three years later he sees her. He wasn’t sure if it was really her until he really saw her. He should have known from the way his body reacted to her in the store. She was a woman who didn’t even know him and he liked that. She was a woman who hated him from the start but there was something lingering between them. Still, she didn’t want him. Not then and not now. The legend about the bonfire was bullshit or was it…

Serena didn’t want to like him. She really didn’t. He was an egotistical jock with an harem. She didn’t have time for that shit. Her life was crazy enough without a hot AF player getting in the way. Her plan was to stay away but fate had other plans, or her boss did assigning her to following the football team for the Gazette. It also didn’t help that he was actually kinda sweet and shy in his own. Talks are surprising. Fun is had. Chemistry is fire. Promises are made. Will they be broken like her heart was before him?

I love them! Serena is fucking hilarious and she loves Oreos! She is my kinda girl. Funny, smart, witty, and sarcastic. Dillon is just a big softie when you really get to know him. He is also funny, smart, and sweet even if he makes dumb decisions. Together, their banter is the best. Their connection is amazing. They just made me laugh, tear up, flush, and laugh some more. They definitely have their work cut out for them though. It’s a perfect addition to the series.

P.S. I ♥️ Nana!

“Know what I’m thinking?” I ask.

“That I’m irresistible—”

“Ha. I’m thinking you’d have a hard time keeping up with me.” Yeah. I just said that.

“I’m hard, alright.” He lowers his gaze, his top teeth tugging at his bottom lip. I burst out laughing. “And people say romance is dead!”

“Call me Mr. Darcy if you want.” He does a weird bow, then puts his hand over his heart. “‘You have bewitched me, body and soul.’”

I burst out laughing. “Nice quote, but your curtsey needs work.”

“Hand over the hat, buddy.”

The kiss burns a hole right through me and blood rushes to my groin. I’m in over my head—Who cares?—and I groan, deepening our connection. My hands slide down her cheeks, her throat, then to her arms at her sides. Our joined breaths mingling, I trace my thumbs over the rapid pulse in her wrists. My head swims with images of her body draped on top of me— A cry comes from her as she breaks away from our kiss. “Jerk! Don’t do that. I don’t know you!” “You liked it, babe.”  “What? No.”  “I’m Dillon.” “Um, I don’t care. Step away.” “What’s your name? You got a number?” Dillon McQueen does not give up easily. When he sees what he wants, he goes after it. He also sometimes talks about himself in the third person. “Are you a freshman? I play football. Quarterback.” Usually that’s enough to catch a girl’s interest.  She shakes her head, looking almost surprised as she touches her lips briefly. I think she mutters pigskin-toting Casanova. Then, she flips around.   “No, wait! Don’t go!” I say, reaching out for her, but she’s gone, daring one look over her shoulder as she disappears into the crowd of people.  I take off after her, navigating through the throng, jostling into dancers. One of them, a big barrel-chested guy, shoves at me when I bump into him. I fall on my ass. Heart pounding, I scramble back up, dirt and grass on me as I dart through the crowd and look around. My height gives me a decent vantage point, but she’s vanished.  Off in the distance, the football guys hoot my name, then chant Venus over and over. Well, hell. The bonfire got me good. She’s gone. Legend 1, Dillon 0.

Sandra's Review

Grip is Lacey Black’s newest standalone and it’s part of K. Bromberg’s Driven World. I was so excited when I found out she was going to be part of this world. For her. I actually haven’t read the Driven series but I have always wanted to. Too many books, so little time!

Three years. Three years ago Lena watched the love of her life walk away. Toward his dreams. She was so happy for him. It was everything he ever wanted but she couldn’t go with him. So she stayed in Missouri while he went to LA. And now, she was off to LA to help him. She didn’t know what she was walking into but she knew in her heart that she had to go. She thought that maybe this is what she needed to move on. The last thing she expected when she got to his house was a baby. A newborn. A three week old boy named Oliver.

Mack hated walking away from her three years ago. And when suddenly he was a father, she was the only one he could trust to help him. He needed her. When he saw her again he knew he also wanted her. He always has but those thoughts were dormant since he couldn’t do anything about it. She didn’t want this life. He couldn’t do this on his own, taking care of a baby. They decide on six weeks. She would stay for six weeks. He knew from that moment that it wouldn’t be enough.

Mack and Lena’s relationship is complicated and beautiful at the same time. I felt their connection from start to finish. They are so at ease with other and nervous too. They don’t want to complicate things even more but they also want to give in. It’s so much. The traveling together. The taking care of a baby together. Laughing, learning, and the races! So exciting. Lena loves the excitement of the races. It’s fun when it’s six weeks but can it be forever?

Aw!! I absolutely LOVED this story!! The slow burn. The races. Oliver. I seriously cried a dozen times!! I laughed. Hard. I want to slap a few people. It was awesome. Oliver is not just in the background. He is Mack’s world. It makes Mack even hotter! Damn…him in a fire suit on halfway? 🔥🔥. Then there is Lena, she is so sweet, strong, and sexy. I love that they just get each other.

P.S. I want more Fish!! ♥️

“I trust you.” The corner of my mouth turns upward.

“Good. Now, let’s get you in your race car so Oliver can witness his first big Indy race.” I glance down and find the baby sound asleep. Mack snorts. “He’s thrilled, I can tell.”

“Lena!” Fish bellows from the open door of the limo. “Damn, girl. You look positively edible. Have you finally realized you’re with the wrong man yet?” Fish asks, winking and smiling as his best friend growls behind me.

I grip my steering wheel, my hands more at home there than anywhere else. Well, maybe a second to Lena’s body, but a damn close one. This is my element, my drive.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Grip is Lacey Black’s newest addition to the Driven World. Grip is a sexy, fun and addicting second chance romance. I love a good second chance romance and Lacey did a perfect job! Mack and Lena were in love and had their whole lives ahead of them. Together. Until Mack gets a call from Colton Donovan and the chance at his dream. But Lena can’t go with her and leave her life. Mack has to follow his dream alone. Three years later and Mack needs someone he trusts to help him. Lena gets a call from Mack for help. She hasn’t spoken to him in years, but she can’t help but go to LA to help him with whatever he needs. Turns out he has a baby and doesn’t know what to do. Lena agrees to help, but only temporarily. Mack can’t believe how good she looks. He never stopped thinking about her but he has to keep his hands to himself. If he touches her he’ll never be able to let her go. There’s nothing sexier than watching Lena with his son. Mack still has a job to do. He needs to race and now his son, Oliver, and Lena are with him. He never thought it would mean this much to have them with him.

Excerpt Reveal – Happily Letter After, Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

October 15, 2020 By

Title: Happily Letter After
Authors: Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
Publisher: Montlake
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 20, 2020

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes a love story about taking chances and the surprises that come with them.

My love story all started with a letter.
Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for.
You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months.
So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far.
While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father. Her devastatingly handsome, single dad father.
I should have stopped playing fairy godmother then. I should have left well enough alone. But I just couldn’t help myself. I had a connection to this girl. One that had me acting irrationally.
Like when I showed up on their doorstep.

“I cannot believe we are doing this.” Devin and I took the C train to Columbus Circle and stopped at Starbucks before walking over to the carousel. My partner in crime came dressed for surveillance, wearing head-to-toe black, dark sun- glasses, and a wool cap . . . in July. We were lucky it was New York or she might look like the weirdo she is. I, on the other hand, had on jeans and an Aerosmith T-shirt. Because . . . you know . . . Steven Tyler and those lips. I didn’t even care he was probably pushing seventy. I’d still suck on those babies.
We took a seat on a bench located to the right of the carousel—not directly in front of it but where we could still see everyone who walked in and out. As we got into position, I started to feel really bad about what we were about to do—invade little Birdie’s privacy.
“Maybe we shouldn’t do this.”
Devin put her hand on my shoulder and applied pressure—just in case I tried to get up. “We’re doing this. Don’t even try to make a run for it.”
I slouched back onto the bench. “Fine.”
We sat for the better part of an hour, sipping coffee, gossiping about work, and looking around for a little girl and her dad. When I caught the time on my phone, I said, “It’s after eleven. I don’t think they’re coming.”
“Let’s give it until eleven thirty.”
I rolled my eyes. But screw it, we were in this far—I might as well go along with the rest of the ride. Otherwise, Devin would never let me hear the end of it. At eleven thirty on the dot, I stood. “Let’s go, Lacey.”
Cagney & Lacey. It was a show my mom used to watch when I was little. It had two women detectives.”
“Well, which one was hotter? Maybe I don’t want to be Lacey.”
I laughed. “You can be whichever one you want to be.”
I turned to throw out my coffee cup in the basket next to the bench and was just about to start to leave when I spotted a little girl and a man who had just turned into the entrance of the park. They were pretty far off, but I thought it could be Birdie. “Oh my God. Sit! Sit! I think that’s them.”
The two of us planted our asses back on the bench at the same exact time. Devin leaned forward and squinted. “Are you sure?”
I grabbed her arm and pulled her to sit back. “Don’t be so obvious.”
We watched, while completely failing at looking casual, as the man and the little girl moved closer. The man was tall, broad-shouldered, and had on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. He was holding the hand of the little girl. And she had on . . . a bodysuit and tutu. It was definitely Birdie!
“Oh my God. It’s them!”
Neither of us said a word as the father and daughter approached the carousel. When they got close enough so I could finally see their faces, I gasped. “Oh my God. He’s . . .”
Devin grabbed my hand. “I call dibs. I want to have his babies.”
I couldn’t believe my eyes. While I was expecting a modern version of my dad twenty years ago, the man standing before me was anything but. For the record, my dad is awesome, and he’s not too shabby-looking. But this man . . . was . . . drop. Dead. Gorgeous. Wow. Just . . . yeah. Wow.
Sebastian Maxwell had dark hair, bone structure to die for, and full, beautiful lips. I’d joked how Devin thought the guy was a super- model, but this man could actually be a supermodel. He had that longish, messy hair—the kind that he could drag a hand through, and it would look like he’d been both thoroughly fucked and just finished a photo shoot. Yeah, that was him. I was absolutely, positively speechless.

Release Day & Review – The Smile & Other Stories, Cyn Nightly

October 15, 2020 By

The Smile and Other Stories by Nina G. Jones writing as Cyn Nightly is LIVE! #One-click today

This collection contains a diverse mix of horror genres with familiar backdrops: a cabin in the woods, an isolated hike, a car on a lover’s lane. But these stories are not your typical slashers, they are horrors of the mind. Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Two women. A cabin the woods. Miles away from the next one. During a snowstorm. Not creepy at all, right? It totally is especially when a stranger appears suddenly in the middle of the night.

Arielle and Carlie are there to pack up Carlie’s father’s isolated cabin after his death. They thought it would be a relaxing a few days and nights but it’s anything but…

A twist I didn’t see coming!

“Ruby? It looks like you like red, so we’ll call you Ruby.”

Something wasn’t right. No shit, right?

His smile made her melt. It later made her scream. It was supposed to just be a dinner date then he surprises her by taking her to lookout point. Now, she was in the middle of two evils. Which one will win out? Will any of them make it out alive?

It was the kind of smile that was, in the most literal sense of the word, dazzling.

It was as if he declared checkmate on a game of chess I didn’t even know we were playing.

It was a typical day. Devin and his fiancé, Lindy wanted to try a new hiking trail near their new home. During their little adventure they come across some odd and fascinating statues and trees. It was a great trip out in the wilderness until one of them disappears…

Oh man, I was on the edge of my couch with this one. I had to know what was going to happen next and it’s definitely different than the other two stories.

“If we’re going to break the law, we might as well be good citizens about it,” he insisted.

“Fine!” I shouted, pacing ahead of him toward the trail. “Just go ahead and leave evidence of us breaking the law, ya boy scout!”

“This isn’t funny,” I ended with a quavering voice.

Holy. Shit. Yeah, I said it. A manwhore who needs a lesson and a woman to give him one. It’s definitely a night he will never forget. I can’t really get in to it anymore than that. I will say, it’s a good thing I love dark reads. It prepared me that’s for sure.

Sure, it sounds like the start of a horror movie, but I’m still feeling hopeful that this is just the end of a very kinky night. After all, this isn’t the first time I’ve been tied up by a hot girl.

“You might want to shut the fuck up. This is the part when I start unveiling little clues about why you’re here.”

Wow. Two months before their wedding there was a tragic accident. Six months later, Angelina was a mess. Depressed and didn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. That was until she saw neon light and a woman who could bring her fiancé back to her. At a cost. Will it be worth it?

Damn, I feel bad for Angelina. The poor thing. I can’t say anything more.

The world had not only lost its color, but its shape and its sounds.

“There are consequences to anything you do.”

**Overall, this was perfect for my Halloween-loving heart. Got some gore. Some love. Some kidnapping. All the makes for some darkness that I crave. Being born on Halloween does that to a person. 🎃
