About the Book

I never thought I’d see her again.

We shared one hot night together back in college before our paths took us in different directions.

But now, the most brilliant and beautiful woman I’ve ever met is back in my life. And the chemistry I remember? It’s more combustible than ever.

Except…our fling is forbidden and must exist only in secret. Her rules, not mine.

I can’t be her forever. I’m not that guy, and even she knows it.

But I can’t stay away from her either. I’m determined to claim not just her body but her heart, even if that’s the one thing she’s vowed not to give me.

Sandra's Review
5 out of 5 stars

The Rebel is the first book in the Looking to Score series by Kendall Ryan. I read One Night with the Rebel in January so I have been waiting for this book. If you can’t wait then go grab the free prequel. If you can wait, it’s all good. The prequel is the beginning of this book.
Holt and Eden had one hot night together six years ago in college. It was unexpected and unforgettable. They never saw each other again after their night together but he knew where she was. Not easy to hide when she was the daughter of a former Governor, the granddaughter of a hockey team owner and the girlfriend of an NFL player. And now, she was the owner of said team and the ex-girlfriend of the hockey player. A player who played for the team she owned. I know, right? Fun times. Anyway, it’s been six years since their night and now they are back in the same room. Her office…
Holt owned a security firm and his newest client was the Boston Titans. He knew he would see her but he wasn’t sure if she would even remember him. She does and the sexual tension is through the roof. It’s still there. Their connection. Their chemistry. But can they act on it? They are both single but can it really happen?
Eden has so much riding on her shoulders. The team. The fans. The critics. The press. Will Holt be the one person she can open up to? To let in? Holt also has his own stresses and hasn’t let anyone in. Can they make this work? And what is it? A fling? A relationship? A friends with benefits situation? It’s both complicated and easy at the same time. I loved it. It’s an easy read full of laughter, sexy times, and fun. I am so excited about this new series.
Quotes:
“We don’t have to do anything more than you’re comfortable with. Just like last time.”
“And just like last time, I want you.”
She kisses me like this moment is important, like I mean something to her other than being a guy she can swap a few orgasms with. It’s a dangerous thought for me to be thinking because I know the gulf that separates us.
“I don’t know how I got lucky enough to find you again, Eden.”
5 out of 5 stars

The Rebel is book one in the new Looking to Score series by Kendall Ryan! I love it when one of my favorite authors starts a new series and it’s hockey! Kendall gives good hockey romance! This is the perfect way to start the series. The new female owner of the team and her new security detail. The best part? They knew each other six years ago and even spent one night together. So it’s a second chance hockey-ish romance! Eden and Holt spent one fantastic night talking and kissing and much more. Then she was gone the next day. Now it’s six years later and all the chemistry they had is still there and they don’t know what to do about it. She’s the owner and he works for her, they can’t get involved. Right? Wrong! They start out slow, but their feelings are just too strong. It’s like they were fated to meet again and again. It’s just meant to be. But what happens when the world finds out? Will the team be supportive or turn on them? I loved Holt and Eden! Holt is sexy and open with his feelings. Eden is independent and good at her job. They have more in common than they thought and they realize they are better together than apart! Overall, I laughed, teared up, got hot and bothered and can’t wait to get to know all the new characters more!

Release Day & Reviews – Girl of the Night Garden, Lili Valente

March 26, 2021 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Once there was a girl with a heart as black as night…

Or so legend goes. But I know better. Grown in the Night Witch’s garden and tasked with softening the souls of men, the dream spells I spin keep the women of earth safe. Without it, they would be as miserable (and damaged) as my mother.

Let the humans call me names—banshee, nightmare, monster—I sleep deep and dreamless.

Until the day I’m rescued from the sea by a forbidden boy. Until the night we break all the magical rules and the kiss that changes…everything.

Until the moment I realize Mother’s the one who’s been spinning lies.

Now I must choose—between love and duty. Between life and something worth living for. Between the boy who owns my heart and a legacy as wicked as a witch’s curse.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Girl of the Night Garden is a new YA fantasy novel by Lili Valente. Lili can write any genre and her imagination has no bounds. Girl of the Night Garden is magical, beautiful, surprising, lovely, happy and sad. I was immersed in the story of Foxglove and Declan from the first page and was breathing heavily until the end. It’s more than a story about young love. It’s about becoming who you were meant to be. No matter what that looks like. Hopes, dreams, nightmares…it’s all connected. I chuckled, sobbed and smiled a lot. What a wonderful story!

Audio: Wow! Lili and Joe sound so fantastic together I could barely breathe a few times. The emotion in their voices just heightened my senses and truly made it an amazing experience for my ears and my soul!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Girl of the Garden is Lili Valente’s first YA fantasy novel. I don’t read many fantasy books but it’s Lili so I knew she would hook me in with her characters and words. I was so right!! I had to know what was going to happen next.
Foxglove grew up in the garden with her sisters for sixteen years. Then, one night her mother took her away and gave her an ability that would help mankind. Every night she worked along side her friends, creatures of the night. For years she she did what her mother sent her out to do. She thrived on helping the world. Then after one trip in search of an island her magic was gone. She was a just like any other sixteen year old girl. Even had a crush on the boy who saved her. What she didn’t expect was to have to save him a month later.
I can’t really get into the story without spoiling anything. I can say that I was hooked. I loved being behind the scenes watching Foxglove and Declan grow. To make discoveries. To develop friendships. It’s a love story but it’s so much more. I cried three times!! I didn’t see that coming but it was awesome. I am looking forward to more of Lili’s fantasy world.
Quotes:
“I know, my darling. I know it hurts, but it will be worth it. I promise.”
Nightmares may not always be kind, but we are certainly patient.
His lips are chapped and rough but also warm and alive in a way that makes me feel more alive than I did a second ago. I don’t know how, only that his kiss—his whisper of a kiss—feels a lot like magic.

Wrong.
Pretending to be my brother is hard enough, but tossing in an instant attraction to my brother’s girlfriend adds an extra layer of complication I wasn’t prepared for. All I have to do is get through three weeks portraying my brother, and I’m home free.

Matthew comes up with a deal Mason can’t say no to. He will payoff his brother’s debt if Mason pretends to be him for three weeks. Easy, right?

Not even close. You would think hanging out in swanky apartment and having everything at your fingertips would be easy. Overseeing decorators, going to dinner with an old man, and breaking up with a girl. Easy. Nope. Not after meeting the woman he brother has been dating. She is beautiful, smart, funny, and loves animals. She is his kryptonite. She is a risk. He signed on the dotted line. He was completely screwed.

Kyla wasn’t sure what happened to the man she has been dating for the last few months but she is for it. He is more relaxed. More attentive. Sweet even. She was seeing sides to him that she could really fall for. She is having fun. So much fun but will he go back to the busy man who doesn’t answer her calls?

Aw!! I loved it! Mason is delicious. Kyla is amazing. Their banter is flirting and witty. Their connection is beautiful and sexy. They just click but what will happen when the truth comes out?!

Quotes:

It’s the first time I’ve ever experienced anything so…animalistic from just a kiss.

The moment my lips meet hers, I want to devour, to claim her as my own and never let her go.

Don’t ever doubt what you do to me, sweetheart.

Title: Changing the Rules

Author: Catherine Bybee

Release Date: March 23, 2021

Publisher: Montlake

Exclusive Excerpt from Changing the Rules by Catherine Bybee

“Wow, why are you girls all dolled up?” Lars asked before he sat down.

“Jax has a date,” Claire announced.

“What’s your excuse?” Cooper asked. “Do you have a date, too?” His eyes walked up and down her body. She was wearing a dress, which she didn’t often do unless she was painting the town with her best friend.

But sometimes, when she’d been cooped up too long and hadn’t been able to shop or let her hair down, or be something other than a girl trapped in a world she didn’t want . . . yeah, at those times she needed to get out. It was her release valve.

Jax started to laugh.

And laugh.

Claire followed Cooper’s gaze in Jax’s direction.

“Claire doesn’t date!”

The hair on her neck started to stand on end.

“I date.”

Jax leaned her head back and laughed. “No, what you do doesn’t classify as dating.”

Much as Claire wanted to disagree, she knew her friend spoke the truth. It wasn’t that she had an aversion to dating, there just didn’t seem to be enough datable guys out there.

“What the hell does that mean?” Cooper’s tone was anything but happy as he asked the question.

Claire was about to ask why he cared when Neil stepped forward. “Are we done with the chitchat and ready to work?”

“Technically this is my day off.”

Neil’s expression told Claire he wasn’t amused.

Cooper looked like he had more to say, but kept his lips shut. Lars patted Cooper on the back as he walked by. “I need coffee.”

“There’s a fresh pot in the surveillance room,” Claire informed him.

“We start in ten,” Neil said before heading to his office.

Once the door was closed, Cooper slid beside Claire. “Mind elaborating about this ‘doesn’t date’ thing?”

“Why are you so interested?” And why was Cooper standing so close and watching her as if an expression was going to give something away?

When his eyes dropped to her lips, her belly did a little twist.

It was then that her brain started to short-circuit and the coffee felt bitter in the back of her throat.

There were two reasons a man stared at a woman’s lips.

The first was if they were a family member or possibly a gay friend that wanted to comment on the shade of lipstick.

And the second . . . he wanted to kiss her.

She blinked several times.

Cooper wanted to taste her.

The realization of that fact had her head spinning. Then, because she couldn’t stop herself from looking, she took in his lips, and then the expression on his face.

So many things clicked together. With them, a thousand questions.

Lars pushed through the door from the surveillance room talking and had Cooper taking a step back. “Have you met the new guy?”

Claire’s eyes stayed on Cooper. “Yes, I have.”

Cooper blinked and turned away. “I have not.”

A few more steps and Cooper walked into the other room.

“What the actual hell?” Claire asked the universe out loud.

Lars walked by, oblivious to what had just happened.

“What?”

Claire glanced over at Jax to see her soft smile.

In German, Claire asked, “Did you see that?”

“I felt the static in the room,” Jax replied.

“You know it’s rude to speak in a different language, right?” Lars said. Jax shook her head and went back to writing on the whiteboard. “Sorry,” she replied in English.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Changing the Rules is the first book in the Richter series by Catherine Bybee. We met Claire and Cooper in Say it Again and I was so happy when I heard they were getting a book! I loved Claire as soon as she said “Put it away Cooper. You’re too old for me.” And not only that, we get to see Neil, Gwen and Sasha again. I was so engaged with this story that I didn’t want to put it down.  Claire isn’t a kid anymore. She’s grown up, working for Neil and loving her job. Cooper left town for six years and now he’s back. Claire hasn’t seen him since and she’s so happy to have her friend back. But Cooper can’t hide his feeling for Claire anymore and when she sees what everyone else sees, she can’t stop thinking about him. They have a job to do though and she’s going undercover as a student and he as a teacher. While they are at school it’s business, but after Cooper is just glad she’s not eighteen anymore. They have a serious job to do, tracking down a group of sex trafficking people, some of which might be teachers or undercover cops. I didn’t even know who to trust! I had my favorites and prayed it wasn’t them! I loved Claire’s teenage antics and her confidence and attitude. Cooper was swoonworthy as he put it all on the line with Claire. His honesty just made him sexier! And then she was saying “Put it away Cooper. We don’t have time for that right now.” I’m already loving the secondary characters and can’t wait for more from this series (Give me Leo!) Overall, I loved Cooper and Claire. There were fun, hilarious, sexy and sweet!

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Talker is the fourth book in the Slayers Hockey series by the talented Mira Lyn Kelly. I’m loving this series with these sexy hockey players and the women they fall hard for. This is Wade Grady’s story! Oh man, I love this man. He’s strong, smart, and sexy, but he’s also a good guy. He’s nice and funny and has a dirty mouth. He’s the perfect man. Will whisper sweet nothings in one ear then dirty thoughts in the other. Yes, please! Wade is going home for a week for his brother’s wedding and he needs a no strings date. Just someone to pretend to be his girlfriend and nothing more. No one will help him find someone, but one night, one just comes to him. Kind of. A few too many cocktails and Harlow agreed to go to the wedding with Wade. But she can’t do that. She’s not spontaneous and the details are a little fuzzy. When she tries to back out, Wade is actually nice about it and she can’t say no. So off she goes. With this sexy hockey player. It will be fine. She can just pretend and that’s it. Until she starts to notice his muscles and his smile and his everything. They have to practice touching, that will be easy. They have to get comfortable being near each other. Easy peasy. Wade didn’t expect to be attracted to Harlow. There’s just something about her buttoned up clothes and her aloofness that he loves. She’s not a bunny and it’s refreshing. But one real taste of her and he’s not sure he’s pretending anymore. Will he be able to convince Harlow to try for real or have to let her go? Oh boy! Wade is so swoony! I had to many favorite scenes, but “be the bunny” was on the top of the list. I love how fun he was. How easy going. But he’s smart and complicated too! Harlow just need to relax and get a different perspective on her life. She didn’t mean to fall for him, but she did! I loved watching them slowly fall for each other and let their guards down and just be with each other. Overall, I loved every word and it’s my favorite of the series. Can’t wait for more from the Slayers!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Talker is the fourth book in the Slayers Hockey series by Mira Lyn Kelly. I am in love with this team of hot, hilarious, and shameless flirts and the women who bring them to their knees. You can read each book as standalone but I recommend reading the series since they all have their unique stories.

Wade is desperate for a date to his brother’s wedding. But it’s not only a few hours. It’s a ten-day affair to his hometown. A small-town full of expectations. He just wants to borrow a teammate’s sister, cousin, friend, anyone who won’t be a stage five clinger or take out a kidney in his sleep. He is a good guy but no one is willing to go with his plan until her. A woman who he has only seen a few times without conversation until fate stepped into a club. He knows she is perfect since she doesn’t even want him which is a hit to his ego but good for his plan. He doesn’t have time for distractions so why does he want to cause trouble only a few days in? He is so fucked.

Harlow can’t believe she volunteered to be his fake date. It’s so unlike her but she had the time off and wanted to have some fun for once in her life. She should probably remember his name or know what sport the man played first and she was an amazing student. She could do this. Study him. Easy, right? He wasn’t even her type. Tall, hot, abs for days, sweet, and plays hockey? Yeah. That’s not sexy at all. Nope. Not. At. All. Ten days of fun was promised but she had no idea how much she would enjoy him.

It’s unexpected. It all is. Two strangers playing their part. Two people learning each other. Two people who need it to end come Monday.

Omg! I love Wade and Harlow. They are hilarious, sexy, and so much fun. And yes, unexpected. Of course, there is more to their story than just fun. There is a reason why he truly needed a date. Reason for her to get out of her head. I loved it all. I can’t wait for the next book. I never want this series to end.

P.S. Make sure to get the bonus epilogue!

Quotes:

“If you want to make a point, now seems like a really good time to do it.”

I shouldn’t. I know better. But— “You want to pull the pin on this grenade?”

She nods, one brow arched. “Think you can handle it?”

“Be the bunny, dude.”

From the second I peeked into the front room of the suite this morning and found him reading in bed, bare-chested, hair in such sexy disarray it was impossible to see it without imagining my fingers in it, my brain has been off.

Twitchy.

Twisting every innocent act into a moment rife with dirty potential.

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Muse is the first book in Beautiful Magic series by Lauren Blakely. I love when Lauren starts a new series and this one has a different feel to it. It’s magical. Unique. And poetic.
Julien loved art and that was why he was an intern at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. The masterpieces within the museum were beautiful and real-like. The thing was that at night the paintings were truly coming alive.  Out of their frames. Ballerinas, cats, peaches, and more. He didn’t understand what was happening. It seemed to only happen after dark and he was the only one experiencing it. He truly thought he was going mad. Until he met someone who knew he wasn’t…
A new friend. A found painting changes everything.
Julien was enchanted by a woman who was inside a painting. Even before seeing Woman Wandering in the Irises up close he felt a connection to her. And when he’s in the same room with her, he wanted to take her in his arms. Especially when he finds out he was chosen to protect her. From what he didn’t know. Until, their long talks and cute dates within the galleries. She was trapped in the beautiful garden full of flowers by Renoir. And, now he was hunting her. After more than a hundred thirty years she was set free but at the same time she was in danger. Their nights were spent together getting to know their stories while days were spent apart working, discovering, and figure out what to do next.
I can’t really say much more without spoiling the magic. I love mysteries and this one is totally unique, fun, beautiful, and brilliant. I could feel Julien and Clio’s connection through the pages. They are adorable, witty, fun, and sensual. I am not a huge art lover but I loved reading about all the pieces. I know I could google them but I enjoyed putting the painting together in my own mind just from the descriptions.
Overall…I loved it. All the mystery, love, friendships, parties, and art. The characters are lovable. The story is fantastic. The writing is engaging. I am excited to see what is up next!
Quotes:
“Cellar” might not even be the right word, since the space doesn’t seem to have any purpose that I can see. It’s impractical for storing anything, except perhaps a vampire or maybe the man in the iron mask.
If holding hands is a gateway drug, I’m already addicted.
“You are more than a moment, Clio.”

The Muse is the first book in the Beautiful Magic series by the talented Lauren Blakely. I love when my favorite authors start a new series, I get all giddy. I’m especially loving this one since it’s about Muses, artwork coming to life and love. Julien works for the Musée d’Orsay and art is in his blood. He never imagined that the paintings he loves so much would actually come to life, step out of their frames and dance for him. He might be crazy, but what a way to go! Clio is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, and she just happens to be trapped in a Renoir. He fell for her before they even spoke, but after nights of stealing kisses, and wandering through paintings and sharing their stories, he learns that something is wrong. Paintings all over the world are starting to fade and he might be the only one who can save them. But at what cost? Losing the only woman he’s even loved? Is it worth it? This story is just so lovely! I smiled a lot. Even shed a few tears. It’s magical, mysterious and inspiring! I was an Art History minor in college and this just spoke to my soul! I could picture every painting and piece of art in my head and Lauren’s attention to detail warmed my heart! It’s different from Lauren’s other romances, but you won’t be disappointed in the way it makes you feel!

Blurb:

The first time a woman stepped out of a painting, I thought I was seeing things.

The second time, I thought I was going mad.

The night she emerged from a Renoir, I felt something else entirely — a deep stirring of desire, and the wish to get to know the brilliant beauty who’s been trapped inside a painted garden for years.

She can only come out at night in the Musée d’Orsay, where I work. There, after hours, we wander through galleries, with the Van Goghs, the Monets, and the Toulouse Lautrecs the only witnesses to our midnight kisses and, soon, our trysts.

She opens her heart to me, and I learn her story.

But she keeps secrets too, ones I hope to unravel. Why she was trapped. Why Renoir is hunting her. And why artwork in famous museums across the world is starting to disintegrate.

Why I, too, seem to be the only person who can repair the masterpieces.

As I fall deeper for the woman who’s trapped in a museum, I’m caught up in another side of Paris after dark, one inhabited by forgers, ghosts of famous artists and, impossibly, by Muses.

But someone is after the woman I’m falling in love with, and it’s up to me to save her…even if it means losing everything I’ve found with her.

Blurb:

When a bookworm on borrowed time meets a younger, free-spirited chicken farmer, sparks and feathers fly…
Harrison Phillip Fletcher, III isn’t supposed to be here. Not in Burlington, Vermont, not running Vino & Veritas, a quaint inclusive bookstore and wine bar, and definitely not still alive, at forty-two. Also not supposed to be here? An unexpected delivery of chickens.

Finn Barnes knows chickens. The burly organic farmer knows all about rare breed poultry, but dealing with a hot, older bookseller is an entirely different matter. City slicker types like Harrison never end up staying in Vermont for the long-term.

They should steer clear of each other. But the flare of attraction is mutual. And somehow amid book discussions and farm tours, they discover plenty in common. Now they’re stealing kisses in Finn’s barn, sneaking out like teens, and burning up the sheets.

What starts as a fling brings very real feelings for two lonely souls, but a future together seems as unlikely as chickens in a bookstore. Feathers may be flying, but learning to trust takes time neither may have. Can they take a leap of faith together before it’s too late?

Featherbed is a stand-alone novel in Sarina Bowen’s World of True North. This opposites-attract, age-gap romance features a low-angst, fluffy—and feathery—romp as a fish out of water discovers the home he never thought he’d find.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Featherbed is Annabeth Albert’s newest fun, sexy romance with an older bookstore owner and a young chicken farmer. I love a good age gap romance and this one was so good! This is a standalone in Sarina Bowen’s World of True North. All of these books are going to be awesome! This is Finn, the sexy farmer and Harrison, the new to Vermont bookstore/wine bar owner. A mix-up with a chicken delivery brings these two together and the instant attraction keeps them coming back for more. Excuses to see each other again. Brief, hot kisses that lead to more. But they are both so busy so it’s just going to be casual. Until it’s not. Finn is afraid Harrison won’t be able to stick it out in Vermont. Harrison has anxiety about his future. But can they work past their fears and admit it’s more than they asked for? It’s actually everything. I love this story! It was funny and sexy and sweet and a little dirty and I don’t mean the chickens! I loved the way Finn and Harrison bantered and just meshed their lives without even really knowing it. It’s a feel good romance with fun characters, family, sexiness, books and cute little animals. What’s not to love!

Excerpt

“What’s next?” Harrison was so serious that I wasn’t sure whether he meant us or the shelf project, but I couldn’t resist messing with him a little.

“Screwing,” I deadpanned.

Predictably, Harrison made a sputtering noise. “Pardon?”

“With a drill, Harry.” I held up the trusty cordless I’d retrieved. “With a drill.”

“No one calls me Harry.” His mouth pursed. I wanted to kiss it. Perversely, the more uptight he got, the more I wanted to unravel him.

“Not even your mom?” I found the correct drill bit for the project and slotted it in.

“Ha.” Harrison had locked his gaze on my hands in a way that made me both self-conscious and more than a little turned-on. “I call her Mom only because she dislikes the formality of Mother.”

“Whereas you love the formality. I get it. Harry.” I put deliberate emphasis on the nickname, so that I could categorize all the different shades of pink and purple he was turning. Besides, it was a good distraction from how his shrewd eyes made me feel.

“I said—”

“You’re fun to harass.” I grinned at him, which earned me an eye roll in return.

“I try. Now give me something to do.”

“Okay, okay. Back to work. You can help by measuring to mark each of the screw holes.”

“Why do construction terms always sound so suggestive?”

“Because you have a dirty mind, Harry.” I gave him an exaggerated leer.

“You better stop that.” He didn’t sound particularly convincing.

“Stop teasing or stop looking at you?” Laughing, I waggled the drill in his direction. “I’ll remind you that I’m the one holding power tools.”

“So you are.” Harrison kept holding my gaze, eyes soft and expectant behind his glasses, tongue darting out to lick at his lips. In that moment, he was infinitely appealing and nothing at all like Astin.

Maybe I’d been mistaken in thinking he was a branch of the same tree of rich dudes who had no issues taking what they wanted. Like him, Astin had favored designer clothing, pricey-looking watches, and the same luxury brand car, and had also dropped clues about inheritances. But unlike Astin, there was a certain humility to Harrison, and he didn’t try to tell me how to do my job.

Oh, Harrison was still a city slicker, and probably not sticking around, but he wasn’t an entitled asshole either. He wanted to kiss me. That want was all over his face, but so was his restraint. As with the woodworking, he’d let me lead. He’d wait for me to make my move and didn’t have a ready arsenal of slick lines. His uncertainty was perhaps the most charming thing about him.

And so, still meeting his eyes, I set the drill back down on the workbench. “No power tools now. You still want to shut me up?”

I stepped closer, in case he had any doubt as to my intent. He smelled good. Expensive, like someone had married delicate herbs and leather scents in an aftershave that probably cost more than a year’s supply of my soap.

“Yeah. I think I do.” His cultured voice had gone husky, but still contained that vulnerability I found so damn intoxicating.

“Show me.” Touching the sleeve of his waffle-knit sweater, I turned him toward me. There. I’d made my move. The next was his.

Our Chance is the second book in the Hope River series by Margaret McHeyzer. Each book can be read as standalone but I recommend reading the series since they are interconnected. I enjoyed Hope’s River but I fell harder for Our Chance. Jake is just so protective and swoony.
Six years ago, only a few months apart two more residents were added to Hope River. And now, Jake and Elle were loved by the small town. Her as the owner of the local diner and he as the sheriff. Over the years they have become friends, not close ones since they both don’t let anyone get too close. Even with that Elle developed a crush on the man. I mean, who can blame her. Jake is almost thirty, sweet, protective, friendly, and looks damn good in a uniform. Everyone is town sees the way they look at each other but neither has pulled the trigger on their attraction.
Jake knew Elle was hiding something. He didn’t want to push her but he needed to protect her. Make sure she didn’t run. He saw it in her eyes. So, he does what any friend would do. He helps her. He listens. Kinda. Lol. He wants to prove to her that he won’t look at her differently after knowing her secret. And he hopes she does the same. They both have a past. A reason why they were in Hope River. Will they understand once their pasts are revealed?
These two. They both have things to work out before they can move on. With each other or separately. The small town is rooting for them and so was I. They are too funny, sweet, and dirty birds. It’s a slow burn. A book full of hope. Twists. Laughter. Food. And love.
Quotes:
“What do you need me to do? Put me to work, use me as you please.” Um, okay. You can start by taking your shirt off and letting me run my hands all over your bare chest. “Anything in particular you need?”
Aha. I can think of plenty. “Um, can you turn the lights on in the kitchen,” I say as my voice cracks with a tinge of excitement. I clear my throat. Damn hussy
“I’ve been holding on for something more, and now I know, you’re my more.”
“We have an engagement party to get to.” He walks out, leaving me high and dry. Stupid term. More like wet and horny.
Okay, Sheriff Jacob Barnes, game on.

STRONG, BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS CHARACTERS.

**Write something worth reading**
I’m Margaret and I’m a self-published author.
Recently I was fortunate in obtaining New York Times best-selling status on my YA/NA book – Ugly, and my YA book – Mistrust.
My last six books have been YA and I’m completely in love with the genre. I love being able to communicate with people through my words and stories.
My writing genres all differ, but the one thing I keep consistent is my heroines. All my female lead characters are strong, gutsy and not the ‘perfect’ woman. While my books all have romantic elements in them, they aren’t just about the romance. They’re about finding strength, acceptance and making life long connections.
I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I have while writing them.

Synopsis

The guitarist, the dad, and a band on the rise…

Johnny

A quiet place to live and some time to recharge before my band heads out on the road again sounds amazing. I wouldn’t mind a distraction too, but my new neighbor is off-limits. There are rules about not getting involved with your bandmate’s ex, right? And Sean isn’t my type anyway. He’s too bossy, too commanding, and he has way too much baggage. I’ve learned that it’s best to let go of the heavy stuff. So why am I so drawn to him?

Sean

Coming out later in life has taught me to protect my privacy at all costs. And while juggling a handful of businesses and two kids isn’t easy, I excel at the art of multitasking and keeping everything separate. But Johnny blurs those lines. He’s easy-going, sweet-natured, and cool. In short, he’s everything I’m not. I want to know all about him…starting from the top.

Excerpt

The cheery sound of family fun drifted through the house…the dog barking, cupboards closing, and a girlish squeal of delight. And more dog barking.

I chuckled at the chaotic homey cacophony. I would never have envisioned this was Sean’s life. He’d always seemed like a badass boss to me—not a man who’d wear an apron to bake cupcakes with his daughter while his son had a guitar lesson. His chocolate mussed hair and concerned parental frown made him look goofy and yet very…endearing. In a hot dad way.

Okay. Definitely time to go. I reached for the knob just as Sean did.

“I’ll walk you out,” he insisted, holding the door open.

I stepped onto the porch and blinked against the bright afternoon sun at the hilltop view of the city. “Wow. This is nice.”

“Yeah,” he agreed absently. “How was he?”

“Amazing. The next Chuck Berry.”

Sean sighed grumpily. “Less sarcasm, please.”

“Sorry, Dad.” I snickered. “He was great. I mean, he sucked, but I think he had fun. I told him to keep the guitar and practice on his own. If you want me to come back, I will.”

“Really? That’s good.” He stared at the horizon for a moment before glancing my way. “I wanted to—why are you smiling at me?”

“You’re fuckin’ covered in chocolate. It’s in your ear.” I made a face and tugged at my own ear.

He gestured at the apron. “Baking isn’t my thing.”

I flashed a megawatt grin at him. “Sure, it is. Are you decorating those cupcakes with anything besides frosting?”

“Sprinkles. You’re welcome to join us.”

“Thanks, but I don’t want to crash your family time.”

Sean inclined his head. “So…did he talk to you?”

“It took a little coaxing. Full disclosure…we played video games before we picked up the guitars. You’re not paying me, so I don’t really feel guilty. I just don’t want you to think it was a jam session from the start.”

“I know.”

“You know?” I repeated.

“I snuck in to see how you were doing. Hulk let you down. You might want to go with Iron Man or Captain America next time.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” I snort-laughed, then sobered. “As for Parker…he’s a good kid. He’s shy, reserved, and likes organization. He seems like the kind of person who excels at things he can control. I bet he builds killer Lego sets. He might learn a few songs, but I doubt he’s a savant. You never know, though. Kids are sponges. They pick up stuff you and I would never catch.”

“That’s true. I’m impressed. And you’re right…about everything. He keeps a lot inside. He’s always been that way. Very thoughtful and methodical. He sets a high bar for himself. He likes to get things right the first time. He does well in school, but he’s struggling with the transition to junior high. His old friends tried out for sports and he opted not to. It’s left him feeling ostracized and alone. Hormones don’t help. I thought it might be good for him to spend time with someone cool who—”

“Cooler than you?”

“Well, let’s not get crazy.” Sean flipped the corner of his apron and let out a self-deprecating laugh. “I just…thanks for doing this. I appreciate it.”

“No problem. Hey, if he really is interested, we can do this regularly. My schedule is light for the next couple of months, but it’ll get crazy again in late spring.”

“I’ll call you.”

“Text me. I hate phone calls.” I held out my right hand and snatched it away a second later, narrowing my gaze. “You have frosting on your nose.”

“My nose?” He wiped his hand over the apron, then across the tip of his nose. “Did I get it?”

“No. Come here. Let me help you.” I stepped into his space and brushed the sugary goodness away.

“Did you get it?” he asked in a huskier than normal tone.

“Yeah, but it’s on your ear and your chin and…”

“Where else?”

“Here.”

I ran the pad of my thumb under this bottom lip. “Got it.”

I didn’t move. I should have, but something held me in place. I studied his features, noting the flecks in his eyes. I wondered what color they were…gold, green, brown? I traced a line at the corner of his mouth, rubbing the scruff of his neatly-trimmed beard. I stared at his full lips for a long moment before meeting his gaze. Then I inched closer and…kissed him.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Starting from the Top is the fifth book in the Starting From series by the talented Lane Hayes. I have read so many books by Lane and every one becomes my new favorite. Her writing just keeps getting better and better. I’m seriously in love in love with Johnny and Sean. Johnny is young, fun, talented, but he had a hard childhood and he doesn’t see himself as famous. Sean is older, has kids and needs to have control over everything in his life or he’s afraid it’s all going to fall apart. What starts out as a fun thing that’s just physical, turns into something more meaningful. They become friends. Johnny spends time with Sean and his kids. They talk about themselves, their lives. What they want. But what happens when feelings change? When it’s more than just fun? Oh my! I couldn’t get enough of this story! I loved how Johnny saw the world and that he learned and grew just from being with Sean. I loved how Sean lightened up and relaxed more and actually let Johnny in. And Parker and Penny, they were so funny and real! This is the perfect age-gap, rock star, family fun book!

Sinclair Callahan is a trust fund baby.

Born into one of the richest, most notorious families in the country, the black sheep title was stamped on him from an early age. While the rest of his relatives earn their keep at the top tier baseball team they’ve owned for generations, Sin prefers spending his time and money on booze, babes and bad decisions.

Until all three land him in a coma, fighting for his life.

One year later, with a sober chip in his hand, he arrives at spring training ready to turn it all around. But when he meets the only woman who doesn’t recognize just who he is, he can’t help omitting a few important details … like his last name. No stranger to charming women, Sin uses one of his old skillsets to kick off what is sure to be an epic hookup.

But when she shows up five months after their brief Florida fling with a secret that will topple his privileged world, he might just lose everything he’s worked so hard to rebuild. Including a real shot at love with the sassy redhead that he’s been too much of a coward to pursue.

Can he shoulder the responsibility he’s always shrugged off? Or will he balk at the real-life complications and strike out completely?

Francesca Kade is an independent goal-getter.

As one of the only female strength coaches in the league, she’s used to invading the boys’ club. After putting up with being passed over and not promoted for a number of seasons, she’s finally got her shot.

A consummate professional with blinders on, there is no way anything will screw up all she hopes to achieve. Well, except for maybe the new employee with eyes the color of ocean waves and a smirk that’s the definition of sin. When they catch fire in the southern heat, it’s almost impossible to put it out.

Until she finds out that he’s her boss’s boss’s boss.

Burned from the betrayal and panicking with a fresh secret of her own, Frankie is shocked when she lands her ultimate dream job. There is no way she’s turning it down. But when she bumps into Sinclair on day one, all of the old feelings and new problems come hurtling at her like a baseball to the face.

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Check Swing is the third book in the Callahan Family series by Carrie Aarons. You can read as standalone but I highly recommend the series since they are all unique, beautiful, and amazing. I have been waiting for Sin’s story. The bad boy in the family. Just his name is swoon worthy and trouble.
Sinclair is the black sheep of the family. The party boy who can’t keep a job even when they are handed to him. His family ownsthe Packton Pistons, each member works for the team in some capacity. He hit rock bottom a little over a year ago and now it was his time to get in the game of life. One year sober and his father sends him to spring training to be an assistant video production manager. A job he didn’t earn but one he hopes to enjoy and stick with. What he wasn’t planning for was her. A woman who intrigues him from the moment he sees her. And, the perk was that she had no idea who he was. He hated not telling her, it let him be himself though. To not just be a Callahan but Sin. A man who made her laugh, hot and bothered, and have a spring training fling with.
That was what it was only supposed to be. Three months. No strings attached. Frankie didn’t want anything more than that but when he left, she was heartbroken. Now, she was in Packton with a promotion. She was excited about her new job. What she didn’t expect was to see him. And gets the shock of a lifetime when he is a Callahan. He might want to start fresh but can she trust him after lying about who he was? Was it all a lie? His feelings? His troubles? What else was he hiding?
I loved these two! Sin is more than anyone expected. I knew he was something but damn. And Frankie is a badass. She knows what she wants and doesn’t play around. They are both determined and motivated. Together, they are full of passion, love, and laughter. I am so hoping there are more stories in this series! I can see the next book…
Quotes:
Sinclair is trouble, that’s for sure. Just the kind of trouble I want to try several times before I know better.
“I wasn’t aware you were emotionally off-limits. Now my plan to get you to fall in love with me is thwarted.” She snaps her fingers as if to say aw shucks.
Like she said, trying harder is worth a lot. In this instance, it’s worth everything.

About the Author

Author of romance novels such as The Tenth Girl and Privileged, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. A former journalist, she prefers the love stories of her imagination, and the athleisure dress code, much better.

When she isn’t writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She’s a Jersey girl living in Texas with her husband, daughter, son and Great Dane/Lab rescue.
