They’re from two different worlds. This could never work. But what if…they dared to try?

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dare You is the first book in an epic crossover series, Dare to Try by Ella Frank & Brooke Blaine. They are one of favorite writing duos! If you read Ella’s Prime Time series then you have met Kieran Bailey and if you if you read Brooke’s South Haven series then you have had the pleasure of meeting Bash Vogel. You do not need to read them to enjoy this series but I recommend it read them at some point and you will definitely want to after reading this book.
It all started with a fire on the twenty-fifth floor.
Bash was in town for business but that night he was all about welcoming him to Chicago. He was looking fabulous in his red sequined dress and Manolos when he was thrown over the shoulder of one of Chicago’s finest. He didn’t see the face of the man but there was something about him that made him melt. He had to thank the man of his fantasies, right? Just that changed everything…
Kieran saved lives on a regular basis but saving Bash’s was different. He thought he was carrying out a stunning woman who turned out to be a man. He had no issue with it except the way he felt. And when he met the man, that feeling got worse with every single time he saw him afterwards. Every time he was near him, he questioned himself. Bash was something else. He was refreshing, witty, a shameless flirt, and he just enjoyed his time with him. A lot.
I absolutely loved these men. They live worlds apart but come together in a both easy and complicated way. Strangers to friends. Friends to maybe more. It’s about friendship, family, and exploring. I can’t wait for the next book! These two made me laugh, get hot and bothered, and shop. Bash’s style is fabulous, darling.
Quotes:
He was a puzzle that was getting more complex each time I ran into him.
“You’re a pretty big deal around here, huh?”
“I’m a big deal anywhere, darling.”
“See you around, Bash. Try to behave.”
“Never.”

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Love Next Door is the first book in the Lakeside series by Helena Hunting. I’m a huge fan of Helena’s and I always look forward to reading her books. I know I’m going to laugh out loud, shed a tear or two, have to fan myself and fall in love with her characters. Dillion left town at eighteen. She didn’t want to live in her small hometown anymore and she swore she’d never go back. When her brother gets injured she has to go home to help her family. She starts to like it more than she thought she would especially when she meets her sexy new neighbor. He’s not a stranger, but she hasn’t seen him in a long time. They don’t get off to a great start, but their bickering is just foreplay. Van just inherited his grandma’s cottage, a place he visited during the summer when he was young. He always loved this town and what started a short vacation turns into much more. After seeing Dillion again, Van can’t help but annoy her on purpose. She’s too easy to rile up! After just one kiss they can’t seem to stay away from each other. They both have things going on with their families and baggage but they just click. Will Pearl Lake be somewhere they can see themselves long term or will the call of the city be too much? Is Van’s grandma scheming from the afterlife? I just loved Van and Dillion. He’s smart, sexy and hilarious. She’s sassy, smart and tells it like it is. I loved all the little mentions of the Kingstons, Bowmans and other references to our favorite hockey heroes! I can’t wait to see who’s next in the series!

New Release & Review – No Rep, Lani Lynn Vale

July 29, 2021 | Posted in New Release, Review | By

No Rep

Madd Crossfit Series 1

July 27, 2021

About the Book

Taos was tired.

Tired of everything that came with living. Not to the point where he was suicidal or anything, but tired enough that he just didn’t give a crap anymore.

He’d seen all the ugliness this world had to offer due to his job as a police officer for way too many damn years of his less than stellar life. After finding a way to sustain his spending habits that didn’t include having criminals point guns at his face, he quits without a backward glance.

Only, he just can’t step away from old habits.

Old habits that have to do with a beautiful young woman that makes his heart feel like it isn’t nearly as broken as it is.

Fran has experienced more than her fair share of crap. After an attack that nearly took her life, she stays hidden in her house, fearful that stepping out of her comfort zone will be the final nail in her coffin.

Then her sister forces her to face her fears, and she joins Madd CrossFit.

There, she meets the man that saved her life a year ago, and realizes rather quickly that he doesn’t even realize who he is to her.

He’s everything she ever thought a man should be and wants nothing to do with her.

Maybe she’ll have to give him a reason to look her way.

And damned if she doesn’t find a way to do it.

She didn’t plan on nearly getting killed for that to happen, though.

At least not again.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

No Rep is the first book in Madd Crossfit series by Lani Lyn Vale. I love it when one of my favorite authors starts a new series! New characters to love, new places to see, new shenanigans! Taos is part owner and trainer at Madd Crossfit. He used to be a police detective and then one case pushed him over the edge and he quit. Fran is still recovering from her past but she decides it’s time to get out there and she joins a Crossfit class. Guess who’s the teacher? The cop that saved her life. Taos feels an instant connection to Fran but it’s sure why. They become friends and let the attraction build until it just takes over. They crossed paths because of a past tragedy, the present brought them back together and the future is looking good for them. I’m loving the start to the series! I instantly fell for Taos and Fran and their workouts and smiles were the best form of foreplay. Tao and his sexiness and smarts. Fran and her determination and strength. I love the secondary characters and can’t wait for book two!

Title: Perfect Kiss
A Mason Creek Series Standalone Novel
Author: Lacey Black
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 29, 2021

BLURB

Malcolm

They say opposites attract, but I never understood the phrase until Leni Abbott walked into my office—or more specifically—into my office bathroom, while I was naked. Even as the pink stained her cheeks and she stuttered to speak, I was completely intrigued. She’s unlike anyone I’ve met before and, wildly enough, seems immune to my charms.
She also has a son. A young five-year-old boy, Trace, who blindsides me with his toothless grin and worms his way into my heart.
Together, they make me feel things. Things I’ve never expected. This single mom might not know it, but she could be everything I never knew I wanted.

Leni

I’ve heard all the rumors about Malcolm Wright, the playboy mayor with a trail of broken hearts left in his wake. I try to resist him, really I do, but he’s always there with those devastatingly gorgeous eyes and a sexy smile full of wicked intent. When he hires my business to clean his impressive house, I know I should stay away, yet find my resolve slipping.
Then he meets my son. I fully expect him to run for the hills, but that doesn’t happen. In fact, being near Trace only seems to draw Malcolm and I closer.
Now there are two hearts on the line as I put my trust and faith into the one man in Mason Creek who may not be able to give his own heart in return.

Perfect Kiss is part of the Mason Creek series featuring many authors. This one is by one of my favorites, Lacey Black. I haven’t read the other books yet but it does make me want to since I just know some of the supporting characters have their own books.
Malcolm is the Mayor of Mason Creek after following in his dad and grandpa’s footsteps. They are also lawyers in the small town of three-thousand. Unlike his dad and grandpa, he is a bachelor and has dated many women in town and not looking to settle down anytime soon. He never felt a connection until he saw her. A woman who surprised him from the very first moment he saw her. He was intrigued by the woman who seems shy but he saw through her while she saw all of him. He had to know more about her. He knew she was a single mom and a new business owner in town. And that she was beautiful and had the sweetest blush. Will she be the one to bring him to his knees?
Leni moved back home six-months ago with her five-year-old son, Trace. She wanted to be with her family and for Trace to get to know them. She owned two businesses, one cleaning houses and businesses and one owning the laundromat. She had no idea one of those jobs would lead her to him. The mayor. She heard the rumors. It’s a small town after-all. They may be true and after meeting him, they most likely were. He was definitely a charmer and she didn’t have time for all that business but he seemed to be everywhere. Especially when he was a new client.
I love these two!! They are unexpected. Sexy. Fun. And full of heart. I loved how they surprised each other. And the way Trace was right there with them was awesome. Lacey is amazing at including children into her stories. Perfect Kiss had the perfect blend of laughter, charm, heat, love, and family.
Quotes:
She tastes as sweet as honey. Her lips are like sin, ripe and made for kissing.
I want more.
“Oh, Lenora. You’re a temptation I wasn’t expecting.”
“You better be comparing the size of the fish you caught earlier in the day,” Grayson states with humor in his voice as he joins us in the kitchen.

Book Blurb:

Jett Olsson isn’t looking for anything serious and she’s not looking for anything at all, so why does it seem so hard to keep it professional?

I love my life—the thrill of being on the ice as part of the Arizona Vengeance, the rush of winning, the adoration of the fans. And if that adoration means I don’t have to spend the night alone, well even better. I’m content being single and always ready to mingle.

But the day Emory Holland walks into a Vengeance team meeting my attention is caught like never before. I can tell right away she’s full of smarts and sass, and the fact that she’s hot as hell sure doesn’t hurt either. She immediately shuts down my advances, so I opt for the road less traveled—straight to the friend zone.

My approach works like a charm, and when she invites me into her bed for a no-strings, friends-with-benefits arrangement, I vow to give her everything I have. She’s been hurt before, and if I’m able to help her heal while giving her a spectacularly satisfying time *pats self on back*, then I’ll be happy.

Or at least that’s the lie I keep telling myself as the time ticks down on the final buzzer of our “relationship”. Now the real question is, can I score the winning goal in a game neither of us realized we were playing?

Sandra's Review

4.5 out of 5 stars

Jett is the tenth book in the Arizona Vengeance series by Sawyer Bennett. You can read each book as standalone but they are connected by teammates and friends. It’s one of my favorite hockey series’. If you read Steele then you know Jett swooned when he saw Emory walk into the room. This is their story…

Jett wanted her the moment he saw her and then he knew he wouldn’t give up on her when she hit him with her British accent. He was goner but he didn’t do complications. He was single and loving it but he wanted to get to know this woman. She was a game changer yet he had no idea how she would change his life. She was the new VP of Digital Marketing and Analytics so he knew she could help him with his Insta game. That was professional, right? A dinner talking about social media and how to more followers. Too bad she totally friend-zones him but it’s not over…

Emory’s life is full of complications and no way she could add one more to her plate especially a man. Friends. There was nothing wrong with being friends with Jett but one step further would be a lot more fun. Friends with benefits. No strings. No complications. No exceptions. Just casual fun in the sheets. But what happens when strings slowly start showing up?

Aw! This couple is delicious and complicated. They are sweet and sexy. Funny and entertaining. I also loved all the secondary characters. I am hoping a certain someone is getting their own story. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because of the abrupt ending. I want more and maybe there will be in the next book.

Quotes:

“That’s it,” she replies with a grin, and I frown at her. “I don’t like vegetables.”
“But they make you big and strong,” I reply.
“I’m fine being petite,” she quips and reaches out to take the plate from me. I set it before her on the table.

“I’m sorry. I just had this image of one of those life-size cardboard cutouts people have of their favorite celebrity.”
“They actually sell those of me,” Jett says, joining me in the humor. “I’ll buy one for you.”

If she looked at me like that every day for the rest of my life, I’d want for nothing.

Kara's Review

4.5 out of 5 stars

Jett is the tenth book in the Arizona Vengeance series by Sawyer Bennett. Sawyer writes such good hockey heroes and I really loved Jett! He’s laid back, sexy, sweet and really does know what he wants. He may not do relationships, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to. He’s got the hots for Emory but she doesn’t have time for complications in her life. Friends she can do. Friends with benefits even better. Turns out Jett is nothing like she thought. It doesn’t take long for them to realize they both want more. Will Emory be able to trust in Jett? Jett is a great addition to the series and I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Synopsis

The genius, the mechanic, and a new playbook…

George-

My brother’s friend is hot. If you’re into flannel-wearing lumbersexual former jocks who eat donuts for dinner and still scribble to-do lists on their palms. I’m not. I’m a serious scientist in my final of grad school. Okay, I admit I have few quirks of my own. I also have a broken truck and a boss who thinks I can help him find love. I’m in over my head. Help!

Aiden-

A few quirks? Really? George the weirdest dude I know. He wears capes in public, brings a book everywhere he goes, and loves all thing spooky. He’s also the smartest person on the planet—who somehow thinks I can help him write a How-To-Get-A-Date playbook for his boss. Yeah, that sounds suspicious. I know baseball; I don’t know anything about love. But I can’t say no. I’ve always had a soft spot for George. I just didn’t count on falling for my best friend’s nerdy brother. This is against the rules, isn’t it?

Rules of Play is an MM bisexual awakening story where opposites attract and shenanigans ensue!

Excerpt

“The Script Club?”

I grimaced. “Well, yeah. That name came later.”

“You really are a little weirdo, aren’t you?”

The twinkle in Aiden’s eyes and his affectionate tone paired with an unlikely term of endearment were exactly what I needed to pull me from my infatuation-induced awkwardness.

I smacked his biceps playfully, then leaned against his side, staring up at the crescent moon in the twilight sky. “I am weird and I am proud.”

Aiden chuckled. “I like that about you. I like your idea too. It’s a good one. I should get in on that and collect a few new experiences before I quit the garage and move on to my next venture.”

“What would you do? I mean, what would you want to try?”

“I don’t know. Maybe something will come to me.” He set the half-eaten container of meatballs down and reached for his beer. “As for your boss…he needs a rule book.”

I shifted to face him. “What kind of rule book?”

“A dating rule book. It would be the equivalent of a sports playbook…a list of strategies and a backup plan if things go awry.”

“Okay, that makes sense. Step one, ask for a date.”

Aiden shook his head. “No. Don’t go in hot. Gotta practice a little finesse. It’s better to get to know someone—ask about their interests, share yours, and see if there’s anything there. Theoretically, that’s how I think it should work.”

“You’re right. They have to build a rapport.” I squinted. “He’s going to need an icebreaker.”

“Yeah, that makes sense. Hit me with your best shot.”

“Uh…what do you mean?” I stammered.

“Pretend you’re into me and you want to get to know me.” Aiden quirked a brow and wiggled his fingers. “Ask me something.”

“What are your interests?”

He made an obnoxious buzzer noise and rolled his eyes. “Wrong. That’s a date question. A lame one, too. Would you really walk up to someone and ask them what they’re into?”

“No, of course not.”

“Redo. You’re trying to get to know me, but you can’t be too forward, and you can’t make assumptions. Got it?” He waited for my nod of agreement and continued. “Pretend we’re standing at the coffee machine at work on a Monday morning. And…action.”

“O-kay…what did you do last weekend?”

Aiden smiled. “Good one. And my answer…not much. I went to that college ball game I told you about last week, watched a lot of basketball, made arrangements to schlep your Bronco here, and played pool with Kenny and a couple of high school buddies. You?”

“I studied and hung out with my friends.”

He stared at me long enough for me to wonder if I had meatball between my teeth.

“If that’s all you have to say, you just killed this conversation,” he deadpanned.

I chuckled. “I did not. It was your turn to ask <em>me</em> something. That’s how it works in real life. I’m not that big of a dork!”

“But what about your boss?”

Good point. “Newton is a big dork. Very big.”

“Right, so this is where rules come into play. You have to pay attention and take hints and clues to heart. Almost everything I mentioned about my weekend had a theme…sports. I told you what I’m interested in without announcing, ‘I like sports.’ If you really wanted to get in my pants, you’d ask me a sports-related question.”

I shot to my feet, whirling my cape like a true badass. “Who said anything about getting in your pants?”

Yes, I was entirely in favor of the idea, but I was pretty sure I hadn’t said it aloud.

“Isn’t that the end game?” Aiden flashed a devilish grin my way.

“No! I mean, maybe for you, but not for Newton. I don’t think he’s hoping for sex.”

“Then what’s the point?”

“Love!”

Aiden widened his eyes comically. “What’s that?”

“I don’t know,” I sighed in defeat, reclaiming my spot on the stoop next to him. “That’s why this is complicated.”

5 out of 5 stars

Rules of Play is the second book in the Script Club series by the talented Lane Hayes. This is an bisexual awakening romance with his best friend’s brother! We met George in Following the Rules, he’s Simon’s brother. Aiden is Simon’s best friend. Aiden has known George since he they were young. He always had a thing for him, but he never really knew what it was. When he saves the day and helps him repair his car, he realizes now what it is. Attraction. To a man. But not just any man. Just to George. Aiden isn’t scared or nervous, he wants to see where the attraction goes. George had a crush on Aiden when he was a kid. He’s big, burly and sexy. But he’s straight, right? Not if that kiss is any indication. Aiden needs George’s brain and George needs Aiden’s help when his boss asks for dating advice. It’s the perfect plan. They get to spend time together getting to know each other as adults and they get to explore their attraction with sexy kisses, make out sessions and so much more. They promise to always be friends no matter what happens. This is the happiest Aiden has ever been but he’s not quite ready to come out as bi. George wants Aiden to be happy, to live his best life. Will they be able to admit their feelings and have a future together? I can’t even express how much I LOVE Aiden and George. I was invested in them from the first paragraph and they have quickly become one of my favorite couples of Lanes! Aiden is so sexy in his plaid shirts, chest hair a few extra pounds. George is the best kind of weird with his penchant for wearing a cape and having a book with him everywhere he goes. I was laughing out loud, getting hot and bothered and not wanting this story to end!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Welcome to Mason Creek, Montana. 12 Books by 12 Bestselling Authors, all linked together by one fictional small town.

New Release & Review – Waylaid, Sarina Bowen

July 20, 2021 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

It’s a tale as old as time: the bad boy meets the good girl. He makes a daring proposition. Then the boy gets a mysterious head injury and loses a year of his life…

The first time I meet Rickie, I don’t know what to make of him. The second time we meet, he doesn’t remember the six hours we spent together. Or standing me up afterward.

I’m not the same, either. I’ve got secrets. I’ve told lies. Bad boys aren’t my type, anyway. Even the ones with troubled gray eyes.

But now we’re roommates. Cue the awkward moments in the hallway when he’s wearing only a towel and a smile. He’s determined to win me over, and his talented hands weaken my resolve.

It’s all fun and games until my past rears its ugly head and his secrets come to light, shaking our fragile connection, maybe even breaking it…

Note: this is Daphne Shipley’s story. Contents include Vermonty ice cream flavors, nerdy awkwardness, tattoos, and a playboy grandpa.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Waylaid is the eighth book in the True North series by Sarina Bowen. I haven’t read all of the True North books, but I do know Daphne and Rickie and oh my Lord! I didn’t even know this was the story I needed in my life! This is going to be a hard review to write because of all the potential spoilers. Rickie is working on the Shipley farm for the summer and he’s instantly attracted to Daphne, but she wants nothing to do with him. He doesn’t understand why. He’s a nice guy, super attractive and funny. What’s not to like? Until he finds out they have met before but he doesn’t remember. He lost so many memories and one of them was Daphne. He’s determined to get back in her good graces by using his natural charm. Daphne doesn’t want to like Rickie, but she can’t help herself. He’s just too likable. When he shares his secrets and she shares hers, they have more in common than they thought. Now they can fight together against the past instead of with each other. I couldn’t love this story more!! Rickie was freaking awesome! I had the pleasure of listening to the audio and Zachary Webber was fantastic. Daphne is so funny with her smarts and sass and Callie Dalton did a great job! Overall, I loved ever second of it! Rickie is funny, sexy, smart and everything. Daphne is brilliant, snarky and learning about herself. I loved seeing the Shipleys again. They are one of my favorite fictional families!

I read all the way to the highway exit, but I only get halfway through the first article. It’s dense and full of statistical analysis that’s over my head.

By the time Rickie rolls down the exit ramp, I feel the onset of a full-blown case of imposter syndrome. Dr. Drummond is expecting me to be sharp. What if they ask me to work on this type of analysis, and I can’t do it?

“I see the ice cream place,” Rickie says. “But there’s no entrance back onto the highway. What the hell?”

“Doesn’t matter,” I mumble. “It’s three miles down a side road to exit 6.” I close the journal with a sigh. I feel so panicky right now. I’ve always tried to be the smartest girl in the room. But it’s all an act. I’m obviously the worst kind of dunce—the kind that can’t see her own mistakes until it’s way too late. (See: the last twelve months of my life.)

Is it normal to have a midlife crisis right before your twenty-first birthday?

Rickie rolls into the gravel parking lot of the Dreamy Creemee and puts the truck in a shady spot. He rolls down the windows before killing the engine. It’s getting toward dinner hour, so there aren’t many people here. Just a couple of moms pushing toddlers on the swing set.

And I’m quietly having a panic attack in the passenger seat.

I take a slow but shaky breath. Do I even want ice cream? Is there a flavor on that signboard that could take me out of my own head? I reach for the door handle, but Rickie stops me.

“Look,” he says. “About that time we shared a ride home from Connecticut…”

No,” I say forcefully. If he makes me relive that embarrassing experience, I might lose my cool. “Just forget it, okay? So what if you ghosted me?”

His eyes widen. But my rant is only picking up steam.

“None of that matters. I didn’t even blame you. And the only way I’m going to make it through this year is if I put Connecticut behind me, okay? Just leave it alone.”

My voice cracks on that last word, and I realize that I might actually cry. Which is a thing I never do. But Harkness College was my dream, and I blew it. My damn eyes get hot and my throat constricts.

“S-so just forget it,” I squeak. “It’s already in the past. It can just stay there.”

Rickie’s gray eyes are soft now. And they’re moving closer. To my utter surprise, he leans forward and presses a kiss to my lips.

So soft, my brain sputters.

“Shh,” he says against my lips. His kiss is warm and unhurried. Like a ray of sunshine when you’re shivering.

For once, my squirrel brain forgets to scurry. And I just let it happen. He kisses me again. It’s still gentle. His bright eyes measure me. I don’t know what he sees. But whatever it is, he decides he likes it.

Those soft lips brush and press. Again. And I’m only human. Rickie’s surprisingly tender kiss has caught me at a vulnerable moment. I lean in, experimenting with the slide and pressure of his mouth against mine. A sizzle of heat flashes across my skin. It’s the strangest sensation—as if he’s transferred an ounce of that devil-may-care attitude across the steering column and right into my soul. I drink him in, lips parted. Ready for him to take it further.

But then it ends. Rickie sits back, his head cocked to the side, as if in deep contemplation.

I’m bereft. “Wh-what was that for?” I stammer.

I expect a smirk. But his expression remains soft. “You seemed a little freaked. So I brought you to an ice cream place on a hot summer’s day. But that wasn’t enough, apparently. You needed even more distraction. So I gave it to you. And I’m good at that. A real specialist.”

Replying is impossible. All I can do is sit here and try to process that kiss. That lovely kiss.

He really has some nerve.

New Release & Review – Wolf Mate, Lili Valente

July 13, 2021 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Maxim proved he would give his life to defend mine.

I proved I would kill to keep him by my side.

But is the bloody devotion of a united king and queen enough to win this war?

My fated mate and I are finally fighting on the same side, but our enemies have burrowed deeper into our pack than we ever imagined possible. Before we face my mad sister and her army, we’ll first have to free the minds of our own people.

Meanwhile, Maxim’s sister is still in enemy hands and black magic rises with the full moon.

Can we save the people we love and heal the shifter world before it’s too late?

Or will we lose everything we hold dear—our hope, our freedom, and maybe even…each other.

5 out of 5 stars
Wolf Mate is the fourth and final book in the Wolves of New York City series by Lili Valente. You can not read these books as standalones. They follow one couple who have a complicated and intense relationship.
Maxim and Willow are now working on the same side once again. The trust is there and they have one goal. To save his pack and the future of the world. With Diana still with the enemy, they need to figure out a way to get her out of the way of danger while figuring out how to make Bane and Kelley surrender. It’s all on their shoulders. First, they need to decide on who they can and can not trust. Can they overcome all of their obstacles?
I can’t say any more than that. I will say that I love this couple and Diana! There were some unexpected twists that I am obsessed with. It was awesome to have many POVs in this story and I am sooo hoping there will be a spin-off.
Quotes:
“Wake up, little wolf,” I whisper, brushing her hair from her cheek. “Time to save the world.”
“Now, how do we do the whole ‘getting ready to fight the bad guys’ thing? Are we going to need snacks? Pep talks? Maybe a montage?”
He’s starved for me, for touch, for release, and he’s right—there’s no turning back now.
The storm has broken, and we have no choice but to let it rage.

Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance

BLURB

Before I even met Donovan Decker, I knew his shoe size.

You see, I’d gone away for a few days, and in my haste to get out of the airport, I’d grabbed the wrong suitcase.
After checking out the expensive footwear and tailored clothes, I dialed the number on the luggage tag hoping maybe Mister Big Spender might have my bag.
A deep, velvety voice answered, and as luck would have it, he had my suitcase, too.
Donovan and I met at a coffee shop to do the exchange.
Turned out, it wasn’t just his voice that was sexy. The man holding my luggage was absolutely gorgeous, and we had an immediate spark.
He got me to admit that I’d snooped in his bag and then convinced me to make it up to him by letting him buy me coffee.
Coffee led to dinner, dinner led to dessert, and dessert led to spending an entire weekend together. Donovan wasn’t just handsome with a panty-dropping voice. He was also funny, smart, and surprisingly down to earth for a man who wore seven-hundred-dollar shoes.
Did I mention he also did my laundry while I slept?
Definitely too good to be true.
So what did I do to repay him for his kindness?
I waited until he was in the shower, then ghosted him.
My life was too complicated for such a great guy.
In the months that passed, I thought about Donovan often. But New York City had eight-million people, so what were the chances I’d run into him?
Then again, what were the chances I’d run into him a year later…when I’d just started dating his boss?

The Spark is Vi Keeland’s newest kickass standalone. I have read most of her books and it’s one of my favorites. If I wasn’t on vacation and could only read before 8am, I would have finished this story in a day. It’s fun, sexy, and emotional.

Autumn doesn’t do wild. Yes, she did just get back from a bachelorette party in Vegas but it had been a while since she let loose. She was exhausted so when she discovered that she picked up the wrong suitcase at the airport, she was just done. It was an interesting development though when she went through it…you know you would to. And when she meets the man with her suitcase that night, she isn’t upset about the mix-up. He was handsome, funny, sweet, and they end up spending three days together talking, watching movies, and connecting. That is exactly why she got to ghost him. It was too much. She didn’t think she would ever see him again…until her boyfriend sends him to meet her.

Donovan wanted this partnership. It was his time. Seven years of kicking ass for the law firm, this was it so when his boss asks him a favor, he goes. And, he sees her. The redhead who ghosted him almost a year ago. The same redhead he thought enjoyed herself with him. The redhead he couldn’t quit. And now, she was here. In an unexpected place. This was his second chance until she drops the bomb on who she is dating. The man who could make him partner. He was screwed but determined. He knew she was it for him. He just had to prove it. Could he get the girl and his career dream?

I love Donovan! He is delicious and so adorable at the same time. The perfect mix of romantic, funny, sweet, and alpha. Autumn is a badass woman who needs to trust again. She has a big heart, sweet, funny, and worth it. Together, they are so much fun! There is also some heavy subjects tied in and that made the story even more inspiring.

Quotes:

“Was the lady from housekeeping harmed in the robbery?”

His eyes narrowed for a heartbeat, but then a giant smile spread across his face. He held his hand out toward the seating area. “After you, Autumn W.”

“It won’t be easy, but I’ll try to be less charming.”

She giggled, and another crack in my heart sealed up. “I’m sure that will be tough for you.”

“That sounds like a challenge, and I do not like to lose.”

“Bring it on, Mr. Decker.”

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Spark is a new sexy, sweet and emotional romance by the fabulous Vi Keeland. I’m a huge fan of Vi’s have read so many of her books and they just keep getting better and better. Sexier, smarter, heroes. Stronger, more bad*** heroines. Donovan and Autumn are one of my favorite of Vi’s couples and I absolutely loved this book. It all starts with a luggage mix-up that leads to an exchange, coffee and a sexy weekend spent together. Then Autumn ghosts Donovan and he never knows why. Donovan never forgot about her. There was just something about her and he knew she wasn’t like other women. Then fate stepped in again and she’s the social worker for his new client. What are the chances? The spark they have is still there and Donovan is hopeful he can remind her how good they were together. Autumn doesn’t let herself date men she could fall for that’s why she left Donovan. It’s just who she is. He’s even more handsome. And those tattoos that are hiding under those expensive suites. Wowzas. They can be just friends right? The more she gets to know him, the more she realizes she needs to try to see if things can work out. He’s worth it. Donovan knows his feelings are strong for Autumn but he has to start slow. Is that even possible? Will Autumn get spooked again and run off? Will Donovan chase her this time. Oh my Lord! This story! I laughed, cried, got hot and bothered and thoroughly enjoyed every second. Donovan and his plants? I love him! Autumn is so strong and independent and I just loved her too! I love a sexy hero who shows his softer sweeter side while he’s being all alpha! Donovan is the perfect man!
