Mavis always assumed that she would be in a hospital with the good drugs when her time came. Not in the middle of the road, with no one around but the damn town mechanic that hated her.

From the time that she met Murphy and became best friends with him at the age of eight, she knew he was destined for greatness.
But then her grandmother fired Murphy’s mom, forcing them to live on the streets, and making Murphy to realize that maybe they weren’t best friends after all.
Murphy loved Mavis.

From that moment forward, Murphy goes out of his way to stay the hell away from her, and always makes sure to never get too close. Even though everything inside of him screams to make contact.
When he moves back to town after being gone for five years, he tries his best to stay away.
But there she is at his CrossFit gym. Then having a baby on the side of the road. Oh, and breaking him a little more with each step she takes away.
Eventually, they find their way back to each other. The only problem is, by the time that Mavis makes her way back into his heart, it breaks. And not in a rhetorical way. In the ‘he only has days to live’ kind of way.

Jerk It is the second book in the Madd CrossFit series by Lani Lynn Vale. I’m loving this series so far! We met Murphy and Mavis in No Rep and I loved their hate for each other! Now we get to see where it all comes from. They were friends when they were younger and Murphy felt betrayed by her. He moved away and now he’s back but he wants nothing to do with her. But that’s not exactly true. There’s a reason he wants her to stay away from him. But their attraction is too much. The more time they spend together the more the hate turns into red hot chemistry! It’s all foreplay and banter and barbs. When Mavis finally finds out why he tried to push her away, she vows to be there for him every minute after that. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t think it was going to end ok. I cried big fat tears. So much so that I had to stop reading because I couldn’t see. It broke my heart, then healed me then broke it again. I’ve never cried this much during a Lani book. It was SO freaking good!! Murphy is so imperfect he’s perfect. He’s not super muscular or ripped, but he’s so handsome and nice and funny. Mavis has flaws and I loved everyone of them. I love reading about characters who don’t look like models, but the love they have for each other is fierce. Already looking forward to the next one!
