New Release & Review – An Unexpected Distraction, Catherine Bybee

November 30, 2021 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Jacqueline “Jax” Simon knows how to expose secrets: she’s a skilled operative with MacBain Security and Solutions. When Jax hears her parents are divorcing, she races to London to find out why. She’s determined to learn the truth, especially when her investigation uncovers why her parents sent her to Richter, the German military school that made her a fighter.

Andrew Craig collects Jax at Heathrow Airport as a favor. He’s heard she’s a handful, but he didn’t know she’s dangerously gorgeous too. His instant attraction could change his life…or end it.

Jax doesn’t want to fall for Andrew, but soon he’s worming his way into her life. Together, they infiltrate Richter to discover if it has returned to its covert purpose: training children to be spies and assassins and blackmailing parents to look the other way. As the attraction between the two intensifies, so do the secrets exploding all around them. How deadly are those secrets—and who will survive?

5 out of 5 stars

An Unexpected Distraction is the third book in the Richter series by Catherine Bybee. I’ve been waiting for Jax’s story and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. She’s such a great character. Fun, loyal, and kicks major butt. When she’s called home for a family emergency, the driver who picks her up is actually her brother’s friend, Andrew, but she doesn’t know that. There’s an instant attraction and he seems like someone she can spend time with while she’s back in London. But when something leads them back to Richter and she gets closer to Andrew, it seems she might not be running back to LA anytime soon. Andrew never thought he’d fall for his friend’s sister. It was just a favor that changed his life. He didn’t realize how dangerous her job is, but he not put off by it. Even when the danger hits very close to home. Jax knows something more is going on with her parents and she gets to see a different side of her mom and I loved their relationship! I loved seeing Jax with her family, her friends and of course Andrew. It was also great seeing Neil, Gwen, Claire, Cooper and the others. I’ve missed them all! I loved Jax and Andrew’s story! It’s fun, action packed, a little sexy and heartwarming. Hoping to see more from these characters again!

Excerpt:

She placed a finger to her lips, a silent signal to stay quiet, and nodded toward the bathrooms. Without checking to see if he would follow, she turned away so that all Harry or her dad would see was her back if they looked.

“Good to see you again,” Jax heard him say before she turned to look at him.

“Imagine my surprise to see the cabbie drinking with my family.”

His eyes widened along with his smile. “That was your assumption.”

“That you didn’t correct.”

He rolled his eyes. “Technicality.”

“Who are you?”

He opened his mouth and she stopped him. “I’d avoid any technical lies this time around.” She glanced at her watch. “In about thirty minutes I’ll know just about everything there is to know about you down to your last credit card transaction. Choose your words wisely.”

“My credit card?”

“I’m waiting.”

Andrew shifted from one foot to the other, arms folded over his chest. “Harry, my friend, asked me to pick up his handful baby sister at the airport and then watch over her to make sure she didn’t show up unexpectedly at his flat and stumble on her father before he could talk to her.”

She tried to find a weakness in his story. “Oh.”

“Yeah, oh!” He moved aside so someone could walk past to the toilets. “Now, what are you doing here?”

“Confronting my father.”

“In a pub.”

“I went to Harry’s, but you guys were leaving.”

He took her elbow and moved her to the side as more people shoved past them. “Your confrontation will have to wait.”

“Why?”

“Gregory doesn’t know I know what’s going on.”

“What? Why?”

“He thinks I showed up to ask my friend to join me here.”

“Is that all you’re up to?”

Andrew looked at the ceiling. “A harmless beer or two.”

There was more to his story than that. “I’ll be sure and keep up the ruse.” She moved toward the bar.

“You’re staying?”

“I’m going to find out what’s going on with my parents, with or without them telling me.”

He grinned. “Like their credit card transactions?”

“Exactly.” She turned away. “And I’m not a handful.”

Her comment was met with a short laugh. “You passed out.”

“And woke up without pants on.” They made their way to her brother and dad, dodging other patrons en route.

“I thought you’d sleep better. I didn’t do any—”

“I didn’t say you did.” She stopped walking and turned to look at him. “Just don’t expect another peep show.”

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Change with Me is number seventeen point five in the With Me in Seattle series by Kristen Proby! I started reading the series back in 2016 and have read most of the books. I am working on the ones that got by me. It is one of my favorite all-time series. Zane was in Shine with Me as Sabrina’s best friend. He made me laugh and I started to fall even then.
Aubrey is new to Seattle and a teacher. Zane is laying low after a scandal hit Hollywood. They both found the perfect condo, the issue you ask, it’s the same condo. After same banter and a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors they decide to share. The down to earth first grade teacher and Hollywood royalty. Aubrey wasn’t starstuck by the man but she wasn’t blind either. He was hot but she soon realizes he is also sweet, caring, and doesn’t care about his status. And Zane loves that she sees him. The real him. And he sees her. She might think she is Plain Jane but she is gorgeous to him in every way. He is only in town for six months, can anything truly happen between these two roommates who just met?
I absolutely loved these two! They are so much fun and even though the book is short, there is lots of story! I laughed, flushed, swooned, and even cried! God, i hope this series never ends.
Quotes:
“I’m not in an episode of I Love Lucy,” he replies. “Wait. Maybe I am. This whole situation is ridiculous.”
“You’re hot, and you’re a grade-A kisser? I don’t think that’s fair. There should be a rule against that somewhere.”
I grin and kiss her forehead. “It takes two to make a good kiss.”
“There are plenty of things about you that make you special, Aubrey.”

About Kristen Proby Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years. During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self-publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Ignite is the sixth book in the Cloverleigh Farms series by Melanie Harlow. This is the start of a next generation series! You don’t have to read he previous books to enjoy the kids’ stories but I highly recommend it. I have loved and fallen hard for each book and this is Winnie’s (Mack & Frannie’s daughter) story…
Dex was ready to move into his new place along with his two daughters, Hallie and Luna. It had been two years since the divorce and he was home for good after being a Navy SEAL. He was now a firefighter in the small town and a single dad who made mistakes but wanted to give his daughters everything. Except a cat. His girls were all he needed and those two days a week he had them were his favorite days. And when he met his new neighbor, Winnie, he wanted to run but his girls had other plans. They wanted friendship. He knew he was fucked…
Winnie wanted to bite him. The moment she saw him get out of the truck, she knew he was a hottie and when two girls gave him a hug she melted. He was older than her. He was broody. He didn’t believe in happily ever after. If they met months ago there would have been a chance of her walking away. Now? She was good. She wouldn’t fall in love with him, she was in charge of her own feelings. She won’t make the mistakes of her past. Falling hard and fast. Then he goes and kisses her and later she makes a deal with him. No love, no feelings. Only sex. It wouldn’t work anyway, right?
Omfg! Love, love, loved this book. Second generation is so fun! And damn, age gap as well…yes! I am here for it. I fell hard for these two! They are so unexpected in the best ways. I also loved Hallie and Luna and their morning shit-talks 😂. This book made me laugh so fucking much. They are raw as well. Their story isn’t perfect. They truly have to fight. I can’t wait for the next book, I have a feeling I know who the characters are and I am so excited. It was awesome to catch up with other characters as well.
Quotes:
“Fuck,” I muttered, unable to find another napkin anywhere.
“That’s a dollar-fifty, Daddy.”
“A dollar-fifty!” I turned around and looked at them in the back seat. “You said yesterday the F word was only a buck.”
Hallie smiled sweetly. “Prices go up on Sunday.”
“Because of Jesus,” added Luna.
“I am not adorable. I am manly and tough. Even when I’m sewing.”
“You are. And this is one hundred percent the hottest thing a guy has ever done for me.”
“I forgot to tell you I don’t love you.” He shrugged. “Given how nice I was tonight, I didn’t want you to get worried or anything.”
Excerpt
She looked a little nervous, not that I blamed her, as she held out a small pink box of Band-Aids. “I had these lying around and thought Luna might want them for her knee. Band-Aids sometimes come off in the shower, so . . .”  I reached out and took them from her, noticing she was careful not to let our fingers touch this time. “Thanks.”  “That’s it—I just wanted to—um, okay, have a good night.” She turned to leave, and I probably should have let her. “Wait a second.”  She faced me again, her expression still wary.  “I’m sorry about that.” I gestured over my shoulder with the pink box. “My ex-wife—the girls’ mom—knows how to get a rise out of me.”  “Oh, that’s okay. It’s none of my business, and I didn’t really hear anything.” It was obvious she’d heard everything.  I nodded slowly. “Well, thanks for the Band-Aids. Luna will appreciate it.”  Her smile was back, along with that stutter in my chest. “Good. Enjoy your night.”  “You too.”  She turned around and went down the steps, cutting across the lawn to her place with that same youthful bounce in her step. Glancing down at the box, I shook my head—of course she had a whole thing of pink princess Band-Aids. I shut the door and trudged up the stairs to get the kids cleaned up.  Hallie went first, after a brief attempt to get me to let her wear socks in the shower. As usual, I refused, explaining again that the entire house had been thoroughly cleaned before we moved in, and I’d been here yesterday to make sure of it.  While she was getting dressed, I made sure Luna washed her hair and used soap, then helped her get dried off. After hanging up their towels, I double-checked that they’d chosen appropriate clothing and was just about to get in my own shower when I heard a series of high-pitched beeps.  “What’s that?” Hallie said, scrunching up her face.  Instantly on high alert, I put my hand up. “Shh.” I heard it again, and recognized it as a smoke detector going off, but not in our house—we were hearing it through the walls. “Stay here.”  I raced out of their room and took the stairs down three at a time, jumping to the bottom with five to go. Barreling out my front door, I ran over to Winnie’s and knocked. The alarm was clearly coming from inside her unit, and when she didn’t answer the door, I made a split-second decision to bust in.  Fortunately, the door wasn’t locked.  I shouldered it open, relieved when I didn’t see or smell smoke right away. Winnie’s townhouse was laid out exactly like mine, and I immediately realized the detector going off was upstairs. Racing up the steps three at a time, I reached the master bedroom doorway just in time to see Winnie climbing onto a suitcase, one hand reaching toward the ceiling to disconnect the unit.  My jaw dropped.  She was totally naked and dripping wet. One hand was clutching a small towel to her chest that didn’t fucking hide anything . Behind her, steam from her shower billowed from her bathroom, which must have been what set off the alarm—some detectors are that sensitive. Behind me, I heard clamoring on the stairs, and a second later both Hallie and Luna rushed into the bedroom.  Startled, Winnie looked over and saw us. Her eyes went wide as she screamed, lost her footing, and toppled backward off the suitcase. She landed hard on her ass, arms and legs flailing like a rag doll.  Averting my eyes, I strode over and disconnected the unit while she scrambled toward the bathroom on her hands and knees, presumably in search of a bigger towel.  But then she slammed the door . . . and didn’t come out.  The eighty-five decibel alarm had ceased, but the sirens in my head continued. I looked at the girls. Luna had her hands over her mouth. Hallie’s eyes were wide, and she pointed to the bathroom door. “Winnie was naked,” she whispered. “We saw her bum.”  “Quiet,” I scolded angrily. “You two were supposed to stay at our house. You didn’t follow my orders.”  “But Daddy, we were scared,” Luna said. Her hair was still wet and tangled. “We came to find you.” “We’ll talk about it later, but when I tell you to stay put, you stay put-especially in an emergency. Understand?”  They nodded.  “Now go back to our house, both of you.” “But what about Winnie? Is she okay?” I went over to the bathroom door and knocked, trying not to picture her naked. The shower wasn’t running anymore. “Winnie? Are you okay?”  “I’m fine!”  “Are you hurt?”  “I’m fine!” she repeated in the same false, bright tone.  A tiny smile inched onto my lips. “Are you sure?”

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Secrets & Lies is the newest forbidden MM romance by one of my favorite writing duos, Ella Frank & Brooke Blaine. If you follow my reviews you know I don’t read the synopsis so when I discovered it was a teacher/student romance I was dead. One of my favorite books by Ella is Veiled Innocence so I was extremely excited.
The moment Ryder saw him he knew he had to get his attention and it did. Smoothly and shamelessly. Ryder felt the connection to the man behind the easel even more when they spoke. He turned his flirtation up a notch and Ash didn’t miss it. It wasn’t subtle. It was the best kind of distraction in the middle of the Sunday night art class. And after…it took him completely out of his comfort zone and he was not complaining until…
Monday morning when Ryder walks into his classroom as a student in high school. And the now very off-limits young man needed to get out of his head and his dreams. It was wrong. He knew he was younger but not eighteen and in high school young. His son was in the same grade for fuck’s sake. He had to stay away but the persistent Ryder wasn’t going to make it easy. He was making it very hard in fact. He was everywhere. He was torn between what was making him happy and what was right.
I can’t get into more of the story but I can say, you are in for one hell of a steamy and emotional ride. I loved these characters. Their connection. Their banter. Their sexual tension. They got me all kinds of hot and bothered. They made me laugh. They made me cry. God, I love a forbidden romance and then add in MM… Hot. Fucking. Damn.
Quotes:
“I might have to try yours.”
“Oh yeah? Well, I’d love to give you a taste.”
Ash’s eyes glittered in the dark. “Why do I get the feeling you’re not talking about your coffee?”
“Because you’re picking up what I’m throwing down.”
“You don’t have an off button, do you?”
“Around you? No. I’m always turned on.”
“I’ve never known you to be so impatient. You’ve always loved a good tease.”
Secrets & Lies is the newest sexy, forbidden romance from one of my favorite writing duos, Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine. I have read so many books by these talented writers, solo and co-written and I have to say this is one of my favorites! I loved it from the first page, didn’t want to put it down, cried twice and already want to read it again! Ash and Ryder meet one night and there is an instant attraction. It’s strong, it’s hot and it’s life changing. Until the next day when they find out Ash is Ryder’s art teacher. Talk about a shock. Ash never once imagined Ryder was only eighteen and now all the plans he had to see Ryder again have to end. Ryder isn’t going to give up so easily and Ash doesn’t stand a chance against his words, his touch or his persistence.  They only have a few months until Ryder graduates, can see each other and just wait? But there’s just too much at stake. Ryder is young and needs to live his life. He’s talented, smart and handsome, and he needs to follow his path. Ash needs to let him go so he can live. Ryder is going to give Ash time, but he’s not giving up. He can’t. Will they find their way back to each other? Does Ryder’s future include Ash? Oh my Lord! I can’t even with these two! Ryder and his sexy, dirty mouth and Ash with his commanding nature. They are so talented and sensual and sexy. But it was more than that. The connection they had was so strong and powerful. Even though Ryder is young, he knows what he wants. And he wants Ash. I loved the teacher student story and the age gap. Basically, I loved everything about this story! I laughed, got hot and bothered and cried twice. They pulled at my heart strings and got me in all the feels!

Dirty Deal

A Slayers Hockey Novel

Mira Lyn Kelly

November 19th, 2021

Synopsis:

I’m not exactly “Daddy” material.

Fatherhood blindsided me.

There I am, working to get a rise out of my cranky little rule-following, fun-wrecking, soon-to-be ex-neighbor when my one-night stand from last season shows up… in labor.

Next thing, I’m a single-dad begging for a crash course in caring for this tiny miracle from the neighbor who loves to hate me.

Turns out, Nora raised half her siblings.

She knows things.

And I know my son needs her.

Unfortunately, she’s not impressed by my NHL career, my legendary charm, or the rumors surrounding the size of my stick (all true btw).

But I’m not trying to impress her. Not anymore. I can’t.

I’m asking her to help me out, because my son deserves better than some player who hasn’t even had a chance to read the manual yet.

Which means no matter how hot I find her spitfire mouth and those rules she doesn’t break… Nora is off-limits.

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Deal is the fifth book in the Slayers Hockey series by Mira Lyn Kelly. Each book can be read as standalone but I recommend reading the series since each is unique and awesome in their own ways.
One month. That was all she could give him. One month to take care of the hot player next-door’s newborn son. The son he didn’t expect. The son who is so stinkin’ cute and has his daddy’s charm already. The charm she fell for for one week months ago. Before she realized who he really was. A player on and off the ice. She should walk away but he looked so nervous and this man was never nervous. He was the cocky man who loved to drive her crazy. And now he was a man with a baby who desperately needed her help and she needed a job and a place to stay. One month. Easy, right?
Axel thought so too. I mean the woman loves to hate him but he still sees the look in her eyes when he doesn’t have a shirt on. Lol. But, it’s not like he has time to woo Nora aka Fun Wrecker with a newborn to take care of. Plus, she is only staying with them for one month. Nothing could happen. He didn’t want to jeopardize Otto’s care for a fling with the hot nanny. And that is all it could ever be if they went there. No, he needs to keep his hands to himself. Only…
Omg! I loved this book. Axel is the perfect amount of cocky. He is so funny and the way he is with Otto is swoon-worthy. Nora is has the perfect amount of sass and sweetness. She doesn’t give in to Axel’s ways easily and I love that about her. Together, they are so much fun! They made me laugh, cry, and get all hot and bothered. And the supporting characters are fire. I might also be in love with his brother, Anders. I am excited about a what is up next for these guys and the women they fall for.
Quotes:
She’s a fox. A challenge. And when she gives it up, her laugh is like music.
“You’re the worst.”
“You’re the one peeling my towel off with your eyes.”
“Dude, it’s time to be the bunny.”
5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Deal is the fifth book in the Slayers Hockey series by Mira Lyn Kelly. Oh man do I love these Slayers players! I’m a huge hockey romance fan and this series is one of my favorites! Axel is just so…everything! Sexy, funny, and such a good dad even though he wasn’t remotely ready! He’s had a thing for Nora, his neighbor, for a while, but things just didn’t work out. Now he needs help with Otto and she’s the perfect person. He begs her to be his nanny until he can find a permanent person. Nora agrees because she needs the money and she knows Axel needs help. She won’t get distracted by his sexiness or that towel or those muscles. But even level headed Nora can’t stay strong forever. So what’s a little benefits among roommates? She has a life to start soon so it will be just fun. Axel knows Nora needs to live her life and make her own decisions, but he doesn’t want her to leave. Otto loves her and he needs her. Axel soon realizes he does too. Will he be able to let her go? Or will he fight for love? Oh my! I just loved Axel and Nora and Otto stole my heart. I had so much fun reading this story. Mira just has this way to make you fall in love with every hero. Overall, it was sexy, swoony and fun!  I love a single dad/nanny romance and this one is perfection!

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Forever Wilde in Aster Valley is the ninth book in the Forever Wilde series by the fabulous Lucy Lennox. But it’s a Wilde, Marian, Aster Valley crossover and it’s hilariously fantastic! I haven’t read all the Wilde or Marian books, but I have read all the Aster Valley ones and you are in for a treat whether you’ve read them or not! If you haven’t, you are going to want to read every one of their stories! Miller is a new addition to the Wilde/Marian family and he’s not used to so many people and all the noise. When he takes a break to help Mikey pick up breakfast at the local bakery he didn’t know his whole life was going to change. Darius sold his chain of bakeries and moved to Aster Valley for a quieter, happier life. He loves baking and just going to work and making people happy. No stress. As soon as he sees Miller he knows he’s going to be someone special to him. Their romance is fun, sexy and sweet. The Marians and Wildes are so freaking funny! This story wasn’t only just fun and games. There were emotions and my heart broke a little for Miller and Tilly. There was a lot going on in Miller’s life with his new family and Darius was the calm in the storm. The sexy, delicious baker who was sweet and patient. I’m already looking forward to getting back to Aster Valley. Overall, I loved Miller and Darius’s love story and catching up with old friends and family!

Excerpt

The lady who’d brought me into the shop groaned. “The baby’s name is Conley, dammit, Hannah,” she said with a laugh. “Don’t listen to his Uncle Declan. And yes, he’s teething, so he’s been up for hours. It was a good excuse to come grab what I wanted before the crowds turn up and take all the good stuff.” I had no problem believing that they’d sell out quickly, considering how tempting the pastries looked and smelled. But I was still focused on something far more tempting than sweets.  While the young lady behind the counter began filling a bakery box, I moved to the side to try and catch a peek through the arched doorway into the back of the bakery.  I could hear the clank of metal sheet pans, and I spotted a glimpse of the baker’s denim sleeve rolled up over his thick forearm. His thick, tattooed forearm.  Oh, man. Tattoos, too? Hngh. My palms went sweaty, and I had to swallow past a lump in my throat. I was a sucker for a man with ink.  I tried to tell myself firmly that this baker was none of my business. That I didn’t know a thing about this man. That I was a tourist, for heaven’s sake, and I was already dealing with a ridiculous number of new people in my life on top of all my work stress at home. But none of it seemed to I found a parking spot on a side street and walked up the shoveled sidewalk to the bakery. A large plate-glass window revealed the baker himself kneading a giant blob of dough on a well-worn wooden table in the back of the shop.  Something about the sight stopped me in my tracks and caused me to watch him a little longer than I should have. A little longer than was probably polite. Maybe it was the rhythm of his movements or the fact he seemed to be talking to himself. Maybe it was the way he fit the landscape—solid as the mountains, warm as sunlight, simple and magnificent at the same time. Maybe it was the way his big hands kneaded the dough with such total competence that shivers danced up my spine. Whatever it was, I couldn’t look away.  After standing still a few moments, I realized he was singing. He had headphones on and nodded his head to a silent beat. The man’s face broke into a wide, white grin as his hips began to sway, and his whole body moved with the music as he went about his work.  The baker had a messy brown bun on top of his head and a short beard with dark brown eyebrows over an expressive face. I wondered idly if he had dimples I couldn’t see from this far away. His smile was breathtaking.  He looked to be around my age, mid-to-late thirties, but it was hard to tell through the window. He wore a denim button-down shirt under a beige apron sprinkled with flour. The rest of him was hidden by the table. I couldn’t stop watching him. I felt like a kid outside of a candy store with sticky hands pressed to the glass and big eyes filled with want.  I liked to think I was a fairly practical sort of person, a person who made the best of what he could have and didn’t spend his time yearning for things he couldn’t, but the baker had me captivated.  This one, a voice in my head whispered as I watched the baker’s biceps bunch and flex under his shirt. Yes, please “You have to try the melomakarona,” a woman said from behind me, startling me out of my weird, lusty fantasy. “I can’t believe this place hasn’t been overrun with people clamoring for it. It’s only a matter of time. Or…it would be if they’d do a little advertising or start a mail-order business for them. The only other place I know of that had Greek treats as good as these was a bakery I went to once in Chicago when I was in college. That place had people lined up around the corner this time of year, just to get the melomakarona.” I turned to face the stranger, finding it harder to look away from my baker—the baker, I silently corrected myself. The baker, who was in no way mine—than I could have imagined. The woman was bundled in a puffy purple jacket with a gray wool hat over blonde hair and had a baby strapped to her chest. She smiled at me way too brightly for this hour of the morning.  “What’s melomakarona?” I asked politely.  “It’s a Greek Christmas cookie made out of honey, walnuts, and orange juice. You have to try it. Come on,” she said, grabbing my elbow. “I’ll get you one.”  I couldn’t help but laugh when I realized I’d left my own meddling family just to find myself being woman-handled and managed by someone else’s, but I was more than willing to go along with any scenario that got me closer to my—the—baker. “Okay, if you insist. I hope they have good coffee, too.” “Definitely. And they also do an incredible kourabiethes cookie that melts in your mouth. The only reason I let myself come here so often is because I’m nursing. Surely that earns me some extra calories to spend at the bakery, right?” She continued her friendly chatter as she led me around the corner to the front door.  When we entered, I immediately felt at home. The warm space was extra cozy with an old brick fireplace in one corner and deep, comfortable-looking sofas and chairs clustered around it. Holiday music played softly from hidden speakers, and it was noticeably different from whatever up-tempo beat the baker himself had been playing in his headphones. The air was fragrant with sweet cinnamon and a dozen other spices I couldn’t name but wished I could.  A young woman smiled from behind the counter. “You’re up early, Tessa. Is Hoss teething again?” The lady who’d brought me into the shop groaned. That I was a tourist, for heaven’s sake, and I was already dealing with a ridiculous number of new people in my life on top of all my work stress at home. But none of it seemed to matter. Cover Reveal & Excerpt – It’s Complicated, Kindle Alexander

Title: It’s Complicated
Author: Kindle Alexander
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: December 7, 2021
Cover Design: Reese Dante

Nightclub manager Julian Cullen runs Reservations with impeccable precision and a deep sense of pride. But repressed memories from his abduction two years ago surface, leaving him struggling emotionally. Julian vows to reclaim his previous life but doesn’t factor in the biggest distraction of all: the handsome cowboy hanging around the club intent on gaining his attention.
Entrepreneur Beckett St. Clair built an industry-leading survivalist training company through hard work and dedication. The tough as nails outdoorsman can navigate any situation or so he thinks…When a chance encounter with a guarded night club manager leaves him tumbling head over heels into uncharted territory.
One man is lost to his past, the other dreams of a future.
Both men will soon find out love is never easy…it’s complicated.

“I’m being asked if table thirty-three can incorporate thirty-four into their party.”

Julian looked over to see a crowd of men gathered around the larger high-boy table. “No, give it some time. St. Clair’s a good customer. Get some barstools from the back, and let’s see if he arrives.”

“Hey, Julian. Have we heard from thirty-four? Is he coming in tonight?” Remington, another waiter, asked from about the midway point down the bar where he loaded his tray with cocktail glasses. “One of my guests wants to know.”

“Who wants to know?” Julian looked over to Remington’s section of tables as if a large red arrow would point him out.

“The older guy at table twenty-seven.”

Julian’s gaze locked on that table. All the men looked older, sophisticated, well put together, and handsome. Damn.

“Which one?” Julian asked.

“The older one,” Remington repeated, then turned with his tray full of drinks in his hand. “Is he coming tonight?”

So, the Marlboro Man had built a fan club involving more than just the club’s waiters and bartenders. Julian’s possessive side stood on guard. “We’re holding the table for him, but he’s late.”

Julian dug into the salad with his fork, stuffing a big bite into his mouth, and reached for the untouched glass of water nearby. He chomped out his frustration that the big, tall cowboy hat wearing mystery man was building some possible hookups.

Julian had watched as Beckett sat alone for hours at his table until some of the waiters were cut from their shifts and ended up joining the guy. Beckett had become a welcome patron in the club and his table a safe place for most of the guys who worked for Reservations to gather.

No, Julian hadn’t missed all the long lingering looks Beckett tossed his way. He liked the way Beckett watched him. Those intriguing brown eyes and that appealing gaze. Beckett was all man, every single inch of him. He knew that for a fact because he’d rubbed himself against all that masculinity when they’d danced.

An unexpected sensation had Julian dropping the fork in his hand to the plate, his gaze lowering to his trouser-covered cock. Holy hell, the way it plumped painfully against his zipper had his heart thumping wildly in his chest. The damn thing did, in fact, work. How long had it been since he’d grown hard? He couldn’t remember. Tears of happiness sprung to his eyes, making him fight to swallow the lump forming in his throat. Damn, it felt good.

How much had he had to drink? Regardless of his actions over the last few days, Julian had given up alcohol. Should he have been drinking this whole time?

“Boss, you good?” Ricco tapped the edge of the bar to gain Julian’s attention.

He paid the bartender no heed, not wanting to lose this moment. Julian had only had two cocktails over the last couple of hours. That meant he was practically sober, yet his cock was working again for the first time in a long while.

Under Ricco’s intense scrutiny, Julian’s cock deflated. He closed his eyes, bringing forth images of Beckett sitting alone at his table, rarely speaking to anyone. Every single time Beckett showed up or planned to leave for the night, his gaze sought out Julian. No matter how hard Julian fought the urge to turn Beckett’s way he eventually would turn, helpless to do anything but.

Beckett would smile and touch the brim of his hat. Fuck, what a sexy move. Beckett’s strong jaw and full lips, his dark tanned skin… Julian’s dick swelled at warp speed.

Hell yeah. Julian was helpless to stop the tear that built enough steam to trickle down his cheek. This had to mean he was healing, right?

“Julian. You good?”

He opened his eyes, prepared to share with Ricco exactly why he was great right now. His hand reached to wipe away the tear when the unique scent of outdoors, sunshine, and exotic spices hit his senses. Unmistakably Beckett. He looked over to see an expansive masculine chest and broad shoulders leaning into him as Beckett busted a move to avoid a collision with one of the busboys.

Julian lifted his gaze. Of course, he held all of Beckett’s undivided attention. They locked gazes for one, maybe two long seconds, before Ricco’s hand slapped down hard on the bar top, pulling Julian’s gaze toward Ricco.

“What?” He said the word with maybe three syllables of frustration.

Ricco showed zero cares about Julian’s obvious annoyance “Are. You. Goooda?”

“Mind your business. Concentrate on the job you’re being paid to do.” Julian motioned to the line of waiters standing at the bar, waiting for their drinks. But even that only held his attention for the briefest of moments before he happily lowered his gaze again to his dick. The damn thing was rigidly hard, straining against his form-hugging pants. Holy fuck. The relief was staggering.

Julian dropped his head between his shoulder blades, thanking the universe for this blessing.

“Mr. St. Clair, we were getting worried about you,” Ricco said.

“Call me Beckett.” The rich masculine timbre held hints of a deeply cultured southern accent, drawing Julian’s gaze to Beckett once again.

“A guy at one of Remington’s tables wants to buy your drinks tonight,” Ricco said to Beckett as he started to pour again. “He asked me to see if you’re interested when you came in.”

Julian’s head dropped forward; he couldn’t help his astonished stare. He got caught up in Beckett’s new look. Julian’s gaze narrowed to Beckett, admiring how he wore the hugely popular suit with the athletic cut. Beckett looked fashionable in a style that accented every one of his masculine curves and edges. He was clean-shaven with his hair styled and pushed back off his forehead. No cowboy hat to be found anywhere.

“Which table?” Beckett asked and turned toward the grouping of tables. His body angled to look where Remington pointed to a group of three men. Julian looked down the length of Beckett’s long body. He wasn’t wearing boots tonight or a tie. Instead, his collar was unbuttoned with a small amount of fur peaking from the opening. The look suited him. Julian’s fingers twitched to run over the man’s exposed skin. He’d bet Beckett had the same dark tan all the way down that expansive chest.

Beckett was mouthwateringly gorgeous in this new look. Who would have known the man could be even more handsome than Julian remembered?

Tonight, the man held an air of confidence that he didn’t usually have. Beckett lifted a hand to the men, grinned a sultry smile, and turned back to Ricco. “Buy his next round on me and tell him thank you, I’m flattered, but I’ve got my eye on someone else tonight.”

New Release & Review – The Geek Who Saved Christmas

November 15, 2021 | Posted in New Release, Review | By

His grumpy neighbor needs some holiday sunshine…

Gideon Holiday is the perfect neighbor. Need a cup of sugar? Spare folding chair? Extra batteries? He’s always ready to help. And he’s waited years for his hot, grumpy, silver fox neighbor, Paul, to need him. For anything. But this December, Gideon would be happy if he could just get the Scrooge-like Paul on board with the neighborhood holiday lights fundraiser.

Paul Frost has no intention of decking his halls or blazing any Yule logs. Even if his spunky bowtie-clad neighbor does look perfect for unwrapping, Paul would prefer to hide away until December is done. But when his beloved younger brother announces an unexpected visit, Paul needs all the trimmings for a festive homecoming—and fast.

Luckily, Gideon is there with a color-coded plan to save Christmas. Soon Paul’s hanging lights, trimming trees, and rolling out cookies. And steaming up his new flannel sheets with Gideon. How did that happen?

It’ll take some winter magic to preserve their happiness and keep these rival neighbors together longer than one holiday season.

The Geek Who Saved Christmas is a low-angst m/m holiday romance with a guaranteed happy ending. This grumpy/sunshine, neighbors-to-lovers, found family tale features two heroes in their forties figuring out that maybe their sexily-ever-after was right next door the whole time. It stands alone and is not connected to any of the author’s other universes. However, it does contain a heaping helping of the same emotions and steamy moments readers have come to expect!

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Geek Who Saved Christmas is Annabeth Albert’s newest fun, sexy, neighbors-to-lovers story! She had me at Christmas and the cover sold it! I just love a good Christmas story and this had everything I love. Two sexy neighbors who are in their forties, Christmas cheer, an adorable dog and a great story about love, family and friendship. Paul Frost doesn’t really love the holidays but he lives in a neighborhood where everyone else does. Especially his geeky neighbor with the colorful bow ties. Gideon Holiday lives for Christmas. He decorates his house early, is on the community board and helps anyone who asks for it. It’s just his nature. So when Paul needs help Gideon doesn’t say no. He’s actually excited to spend time with his sexy neighbor and get to know him a little better. Paul thought Gideon was stuffy and pushy, but he quickly learns he’s nothing like that. He’s open, fun, loves to make lists and spreadsheets, and smart. His ties just make him more adorable. After one steamy kiss, they fall into an easy relationship. Decorate, help Paul get ready for his brother to come home for the holidays and spend their nights together. In bed. But what happens when the decorating is done? Will they be over too? Oh man! I just loved Paul and Gideon. Paul is grumpy and Gideon is freaking adorable! They are perfect for each other. It’s a sexy, fun, holiday romance with little angst and the perfect amount of emotions. I laughed and teared up and just loved these two!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Rhythm Method is a Stage Dive novella included in the 1001 Dark Nights collection. I have read a few books in the series and Lick sadly wasn’t one of them but I still loved this story.
David and Evelyn have been married for seven years and celebrating on a World Tour. Their life was full of touring, music, friends, and the cafe. It was everything. It was all going to plan and Ev loves her plans. Then, boom!! There was a baby in the mix throwing their world in a tailspin. They need to learn to navigate their new world. It’s not easy being a rockstar and a business owner with a new baby. One they didn’t see coming. Will this make them stronger or take a toll in on their relationship?
