Release Day & Review – Love Lessons, Sarina Bowen

July 12, 2022 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

He needs an image makeover, she needs a mojo upgrade. A new lessons-in-seduction hockey romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

After I’m arrested for throwing a raucous party, my hockey team says I have an image problem. And I need to fix it, stat.

Charity work? Check. Haircut? Sure. But I draw the line at hiring my neighbor to style me. In the first place “style” shouldn’t be a verb. And I’m tired of people who’d judge me on appearances.

Vera and I don’t see eye to eye on anything. She wants me to try on clothes, while I just want to remove hers. She’s distractingly pretty, with soulful eyes and a sinful mouth that likes to argue with me.

But when management threatens my summer vacation, I grudgingly agree to Vera’s unusual proposal: she’ll give me an image makeover. But in return, she wants lessons in the art of seduction.

It sounds a little nutty, but I know a good opening when I hear it. Besides, it’s not like I’ll ever fall for her…

5 out of 5 stars

Love Lessons is the seventh book in the Brooklyn series by Sarina Bowen. This is a lessons-in-seduction romance between Ian and Vera. They are neighbors and don’t even really like each other. Vera is friends with Charli and the other girls and she’s accompanying them with their sexy hockey player boyfriends to Italy for a two week vacation. Leading up to the trip, Vera and Ian keep crossing paths. They can’t help but always argue, but there’s a slow flirty simmer just underneath. Ian wants to rip off Vera’s sexy fancy clothes and she just wants to slap him. But when they are the only people not coupled up in Italy, they end up spending more time together. Relaxing, drinking, flirting. When Vera tells Ian she needs lessons to seduce her ex-boyfriend, he’s more than happy to help her. Turns out she doesn’t really need to learn anything. She just needs to relax and turn off her brain. Then it is on. It’s sexy and fun. They get to spend the entire trip together. The days arguing and spending time with their friends. The nights in her bed exploring each other. What happens when they are back in NY? Does the summer fling end? Holy moly! I loved Ian and Vera! They are such opposites but they just mesh together. All the fighting is foreplay! Overall, I laughed, cried, smiled a lot and had to fan myself. Sarina just keeps giving us hockey hotties to love!

Audio: Joe Arden and Rose Dioro were fantastic! This was my first time hearing them together and I loved the pairing of his sexy, deep voice and her clear, powerful one. I’ll be listening to more dual POV from Joe and Rose!

Dirty Christmas is a novella in the Slayers Hockey series by Mira Lyn Kelly. This story has some of my favorite things: Christmas, hockey and Mira! I instantly fell for Noel and Misty. They were so much fun together and since they were stuck, they made the most of it. After all, it is Christmas. It’s a novella, but it gave me everything I love in a romance novel. And we get to see Stormy and Diesel and I can’t wait to see what happens in Dirty Groom! Also hoping we see Noel and Misty again!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Christmas is a novella in the Slayers Hockey series. You can read it as standalone and if you haven’t read the rest of the series yet, you will want to. I already read Dirty Deal and there was a hint that something happened to Noel Nichols and Diesel over Christmas and now I know half of it…

Noel and Diesel were supposed to be on their way to Sin City when Diesel stole Noel’s truck and like his ass was on fire out of the airport. Only to stop at an apartment complex in a small town. That was when Noel saw her and proposes within a few minutes to a beautiful and funny woman who loves mini-marshmallows in her hot cocoa. He didn’t even know her name. But for real, they spend Christmas Eve together. Noel finds Misty to be witty, beautiful, funny, and he wants more. Now, he just has to convince her that he is only a player on the ice and not off it. Will Misty give him a chance for Christmas? And what happened with Diesel? You will find out in Dirty Groom!! I can’t wait.

Quotes:

“So enough about them. Who are you?”
I laugh. “Um, not interested.”
This guy has player written all over him. Not my thing, hot or not.

“No boyfriend?”
“Really? We’re engaged, and you ask me this now? No.”

“Look at you, beautiful.” Noel walks a slow, assessing circle and bites his bottom lip, giving this tree bedroom eyes so sexy I’m embarrassed to admit I feel a flutter in my belly. “Tall, full backside. I just want to run my hands over—”
“Noel, do you need a minute alone? Or do you want to get your hands out of her branches and cut her down?”
“Jealous?”

5 out of 5 stars
Level Up is the second book in the Reigns Brothers series by Kindle Alexander. If you read Secret then you have met Chad as Dylan’s son, and if you read Breakaway then you know Ducky as Dallas’s brother. Now, it’s their time to find love.
Chad and Ducky have been friends for years even though they have never met in person. Chad is a golfer and Ducky is techy but they are both gamers and that is where they started their friendship. They are best of friends but when Chad sees Ducky on an award show he doesn’t recognize him. Ducky ‘s transformation was a total shock to the system. He had a crush on the man for years but this other side has made him want to tell Ducky his truth. Not because of Ducky’s new look but because he needs his best friend right now more than ever. And it turns out, Ducky needed him too.
Two weeks in paradise. Time to reflect on careers, friendships, and love. Chad and Ducky are both going through changes and feeling a void in their lives. This was the time to figure out what that void was and fill it. Was the answer in front of them the whole time?
These two!! So yummy! Hey are from two different worlds but met in the gaming world and it’s where it all started. I knew I was going to love these two but it was more than I expected. I hope to see all these characters again someday.
Quotes:
“Every girl here’s been hitting on Ducky all night and all he does is stare at you.”
“I love your eyes,” Chad confessed, further seducing Ducky with his pretty words. “When I close mine, I see yours.”
“I’m gonna kiss that smirk off your face,” Chad threatened as if that were a real punishment.
“My ass is smirking too,” Ducky teased challengingly.
5 out of 5 stars

Level Up is the second book in the Reigns Brothers series by Kindle Alexander. I’ve been waiting for Ducky’s story since we met him. He’s Dallas’s brother and part owner in StreamTrainer. Chad is Dylan’s son from Secret. Ducky is more comfortable behind the computer and with his online friends. But when he needs to present an award, he asks Greer for help. He didn’t realize that help would be a personal chef, new clothes and hardcore working out. He even decides to cut off all his gorgeous curls. Ducky isn’t comfortable with all the new attention. Chad has been friends with Ducky for a long time. He’s always had a crush on him, but thought he was straight. When Ducky asks Chad to go to Hawaii with him for two weeks, things heat up between these best friends. Neither thinks the other is interested. But when they both realize the attraction and sparks are mutual, it is on! And I was there for it. I loved watching Ducky and Chad fight their attraction and then give in. It was all foreplay and sexiness. And when they go all in, they really go all in. They aren’t going to waste any more time apart. They just have to realize what they want next in their lives. Together. I really loved this story! Ducky and Chad were so much fun and so perfect for each other. Sexy and funny and smart. I loved seeing old friends and wouldn’t mind seeing more from them!

“Kindle Alexander takes a caterpillar and molds him into a butterfly and both Chad and Ducky will become instant favorites.” ~The Overflowing Bookcase

Duncan “Ducky” Reigns, metalhead and hardcore gamer, has spent his life railing against the establishment. But now when he looks at himself in the mirror that’s not the person he sees. Though he and his brother have worked hard to create a successful multi-million-dollar company, he’s lost himself and his identity in the process.

Chad Reeves, successful in his own right, has achieved every goal he’s set for himself. But living up to the legacy of his uber-successful father feels like an impossible task. When the heavy burden of a lifelong secret begins to unravel, he’s forced to face the truth. He’s lacking in what matters the most and only one thing can make it right.

Sometimes a simple reboot is all it takes to realize the answers are right in front of you. A soul-searching trip to paradise changes everything for two best friends… if they are brave enough to follow their hearts and reach for the Level Up.

Compassion hinted in Teri Reeves serious expression. “Then who is he?” she asked as if it were a given next option.

Hell, maybe it was. She had lived with his father for eighteen years, knowing he was gay for most of that time.

Technically, her question should have made this easier on Chad, but it didn’t. With all the mean-spirited harassment he’d received from the kids in his high school when his father came out, and the untold amount of bullshit he’d had to deal with when their private family affairs began to be splattered all over the local news, made talking about a long-term relationship with another man anything but casual…

Whoa. Step way back.

Wait a damn minute. Long-term relationship? That thought had struck him like a blow from out of nowhere.

Wow, what a moment for an epiphany. He ran unsteady hands nervously through his hair. A long-term commitment from Ducky? Is that what he wanted?

Ducky had never given him any clue that he was anything other than a straight man. Not any of those telltale signs indicating interest in the same sex. The bigger problem was that Ducky hadn’t spoken to him in days. Not one word to all of Chad’s texts apologizing for his unguarded comment.

His heart dipped then fluttered, sending a shiver from his head to his toes and racing back up his spine again. He didn’t like Ducky ignoring him, not one damn bit. Anyone but Ducky.

“Ducky,” he finally whispered. Funny how saying the name out loud seemed to validate his feelings, giving him an inner boost.

His mother blinked then opened her mouth to speak. No words came as she blinked again, closing her mouth. Her head tilted quizzically, and her hand lifted about six inches from her head. She shook her fingers. He took it to indicate Ducky’s mop of curls.

First smile in days. “Yes. Except he’s changed, but I’m really into those curls.”

Chad reached for the cell phone in his back pocket, bringing up an image of Ducky that he’d saved from The Game Awards. He turned the screen to show his mother Ducky’s new look.

She pretty much had the same reaction he had. A moment of pure confusion as she stared at the screen before she took the phone from his hand, using her fingers to zoom in on Ducky’s face. “This is him? He’s very handsome, Chad.” Her brow wrinkled as she glanced up. “You two have similar coloring, but your hair’s darker now.”

Chad nodded and looked down at Ducky’s photo still on the screen. “He and I talk all the time. Mostly online and text, but it’s moved to phone calls now too. We’ve never met face-to-face, but he’s my best friend. I share almost everything with him, yet he didn’t tell me he’d made these changes to his appearance. That’s why I said it wasn’t him during the podcast. It caught me off guard.”

“Because you’re attracted to him?” she asked, looking at the screen again, tapping it to keep the photo up.

“I was attracted to him before he did all this. He’s a really good guy, Mom. Smarter than anyone I know. We’ve been friends since we were on Xbox Live together in early junior high. I think he surpasses Dad with his knowledge of code. Ducky can hack into anything. We’d all be online together and watch him do it when we were younger.” Chad took his phone from his mother, drawing her attention back to him. She needed to hear what he planned to say. “I’ve been dealing with my attraction to guys since way before Dad came out. Ducky was the first guy I was into. I’ve never stopped being into him. He’s funny in this unintentional way, but he laughs at himself. He’s real. The most real person I’ve ever known. I’ve never met anyone else like him.”

“I never had any idea you had these feelings. When I asked the question, I didn’t really expect this response,” his mom said in that way only mothers used when they spoke of the regret of missing something so big. “You were young. You must have been afraid and unsure.”

“Hell no, I wasn’t afraid. Sorry,” Chad said, ignoring the critical arching of her brow at the use of the swear word. “Do you think any child you raised could be afraid of anything?”

He pushed off the counter, tucking his cell phone back into his pocket. “I’ve been with guys, Mom. Lots of ’em. And that’s all I’m going to say so don’t ask me any questions.” He couldn’t contain the shiver running through him at the awkwardness of admitting even that much to his mother about his sex life.

“You’ve been with women, too. Right?” His mom stammered, clearly questioning everything she knew about Chad. “Don’t answer that. It doesn’t matter. How have I never known these things about you before? I tried to be an observant, present mother for your whole life. I love you.” She looked pitiful, causing Chad to give a good laugh as his mother took her seat and lifted her glass of iced tea, taking several long gulps.

“Mom, all of us are very well-adjusted. You and Dad are great parents. Kids don’t tell their parents everything. You know that. And it wasn’t easy on any of us to have Dad’s sexuality splashed out for the world to see. I get that social media doesn’t hold weight, but when your father owns a social platform that’s bought by a technology giant like Wilder and then those two men become a couple…the children involved are gonna get some backlash.”

“Oh, I need something stronger than flavored tea.”

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

Who knew that weddings in Vegas were the real deal? I certainly didn’t when I agreed to marry my co-worker while on a bender in Sin City. Now, I need a quick annulment, which means I need an attorney, STAT.

Honestly, with a name like Grayson Sterling, Esquire, I expected an old man in a three-piece suit. But the guy behind the desk is anything but stuffy and old. Tall and sexy with tattoos and striking blue eyes, I simply can’t take my eyes off him, and I have no intention of declining his offer of a date…and more. So much more! The conversation between us is good, and the man should win awards for his bedroom escapades. I find myself trusting him in ways I never thought I would–until he breaks that trust. Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Scandal is the second book in the Single in Seattle series by Kristen Proby. It’s a second generation series and I am obsessed already. I love Kristen’s With Me In Seattle series so this series is the icing on the cake. The Scandal is Stella’s story, Nate and Jules’s only child.
Stella McKenna had a little too much fun at a bachelorette party last month in Sin City. She thought it was all fun and games till her and her friend find out their marriage was legit. They needed an annulment, stat. A meeting has been setup with a Grayson Sterling, with a name like that Stella assumed he was an older man in her friend’s law firm. She was dead. F*cking. Wrong. The moment she saw him, she melted. He was older than her twenty-five but he was no old man. He was a hottie who looked at her like he wants her for dessert.
The minute he saw her Sterling knew he life was about to change. She was not only beautiful but she was stunning, sweet, funny, and it felt like they had known each other for years. He hadn’t been felt this way about a woman. Ever. He had a lot going on with his life but he wanted to learn her. He also wanted to devour her in an elevator. He wanted her in every way.
I love this story. These characters. Everything. Grayson is swoon-y with an alpha side. Stella is so sweet and knows exactly what she wants. Together, their banter is so much fun and sexy and their connection is delicious. It was also so fun to catch up with Stella’s huge and fabulous family and to get to know Gray’s. I am so excited for the rest of the series.
P.S. Make sure to get the bonus content!
Quotes:
“I knew you had ink,” she says quietly. “And just so you know, I’m not sleeping with you on the first date.”
“Is that a challenge?”
She laughs a little and then shakes her head. “No, it’s the facts. Come on, let’s go get some pizza.”
“Well, now that you have me here, what do you plan to do with me?”
“I feel you looking at me.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You have an elevator fetish.”
“I didn’t,” I reply as we reach the first floor. “Until I met you.”
