Title: What’s It Gonna Take
Series: Burgers and Brew Crüe #5
Author: Lacey Black
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 9, 2022

From the first moment I saw Reagan Turner at the bar and restaurant I help manage, I was drawn like never before. She was dating someone at the time, which meant she was off-limits, until the jerk broke up with her. I can’t get her out of my head, can’t stop wanting to kiss those perfectly lush lips. Fighting this attraction has been my kryptonite.
So, I give in to temptation.
Now, all bets are off. One touch, one kiss, one night will never be enough. Of course, I wasn’t factoring in us working together, which means I have to keep my desire—and my hands—to myself.
Should be easy enough.

There’s something about the charismatic, flirty bar manager that pulls me in. When my boyfriend breaks up with me via text message, I suddenly see Garreth Taylor in a whole new light. He’s gorgeous, fun, caring, and everything a single woman could ever want. And for some reason, he seems to have his sights set on me, even if he doesn’t say it outright.
So, I make the first move.
The result is both explosive and dynamic, and before I know it, one night turns to two. He has a hang-up, however, about being professional while at work, and draws a line in the sand.
Looks like I’ll have to show him how fun it can be to cross it.

What’s It Gonna Take is the fifth book in the Burgers and Crüe series by Lacey Black. You can read each book as standalone but I highly recommend reading the series since this crew is so much fun, sexy, and swoony. This is Reagan (Madelyn’s cousin) and Garreth’s (Burgers and Brew manager) story!
Garreth moved back to Stewart Grove four years ago and has been the manager at Burgers and Brew every since. He has always been a shameless flirt where Reagan is concerned and he loves her reaction everything he throws it down her way. It’s been all fun since she wasn’t available and he wasn’t ready but now? It’s on. He has crushed on her for years and now it was time to prove to her that he doesn’t flirt with just anyone…it’s for her and only her.
Reagan is starting over. She is single and starting a new job as a hostess for Burgers and Brew. She loves these guys, Jameson is even married to his cousin so it’s the perfect fit. The problem? Not falling for her boss. The man who has shamelessly flirted with her for years. The man who could be dangerous to her heart. But now that they work together, can their chemistry go anywhere?
Of course!
These two are soooo much fun! I felt their connection from the very beginning to the very end. Garreth is so damn swoony, funny, sexy, and supportive. Reagan is so witty, sexy, smart, and strong. Together, their flirt game is on-point, their chemistry is fire, and they know exactly how to push each other’s buttons in the best of ways. I love them!! I can’t wait for the next book. Oh, it’s going to be a fun ride…
“Thanks, Grandma. You’re the best.”
She signs dramatically and replies, “I know.”
Kissing him never gets old. There’s nothing better.
She might initiate the kiss, but I take complete control, sliding my tongue into her mouth and trying to show her just how much she means to me with a single kiss.

My blood is boiling.

What kind of douche canoe sends a text to break up with a woman, and then shows up at the same place said woman you just broke up with is eating dinner?
Justin fucking Morales, that’s who.
I want to punch him in his smug, dirtbag face, but I won’t because my employers frown upon it. Well, maybe not Jameson as much as the others, especially when he hears what happened to his wife’s cousin. He’d probably jump to the head of the line to knock out a few teeth.
I remember growing up with Jameson and Walker. They definitely weren’t afraid to get into parking lot scuffles. We didn’t hang in the same circles, but I never had any issues with them. I was just more focused on getting good grades, playing baseball, and getting into college.
Reagan approaches where I stand, eavesdropping on her confrontation and not ashamed in the least. Her eyes are cast down at first, and when they finally meet mine, I can see her embarrassment and anger swirling together like a tornado. Part of me wants to reach out and pull her against my chest, vowing to kick his ass for hurting her, but I know she won’t appreciate that right now.
Instead, I go to the one place I know will get a reaction out of her. “I’m so turned on right now,” I mutter, throwing her a wink and a smile.
And just like that, the shock and rage reflecting in her stunning eyes falls away and is replaced by laughter. “Oh my God,” she sputters through her giggle fit. “What is wrong with you?”
See? This right here. I’d rather see her happy and laughing instead of what that asshole made her feel like. When she smiles, there’s this light that surrounds her. It’s vibrant and makes me feel like I won a million dollars or something equally as badass.
“You wound me, love.” I place a hand over my heart and sigh dramatically.
Reagan rolls her eyes, much as I’d expect her to. “You’re nuts.”
I sober and step closer, greedily breathing in her sweet scent. “Do you want me to drop a drink in his lap? Or maybe step on his patty before I serve it? I’d do it in a heartbeat, for you,” I tell her, only half-joking.
Reagan gives me a sad smile, and Jesus, I don’t like it. “I do appreciate the offer, but I don’t think that’s necessary. Please don’t make any health code violations on my behalf,” she replies with the faintest grin on her pretty lips.
“If you change your mind, send me a signal, okay? Maybe blow me a kiss from across the room or twerk. Twerking’s always good.”
Her face completely relaxes as she laughs and shakes her head. “You’re terrible. I’m going to head back to my friends,” she says, reaching out and squeezing my arm. Little bolts of lightning streak through my veins and land firmly in my balls. It’s hard to just stand here and watch her walk away. “Oh, Garreth?”
Glancing up, I meet her gaze. “Yes?”
“Thank you. For making me smile.” She rewards me with another small smile.
My throat is tight with emotion. “Anytime.”
Reagan rejoins her party, immediately jumping into an animated telling of what happened over with Justin. As much as I’d love to go over there, I can’t. I have a job to do, which right now, is serving the ex. Even if I’d rather kick his ass out or just flat out refuse to serve him, that’s not my job, and I always strive to do the best job I can.

It seems like a solid plan…

  • Lose each other’s numbers, permanently.
  • Avoid pitfalls of real marriage forever.

…Until I sober up, and my wife is already gone.

It’s what we agreed to. But I don’t like it.

A year later, I find her. I have another solid plan to undo our mistake.

Only now, I’m not so sure the cocktail napkin with our prenup can protect me from the one thing I swore I wouldn’t do… fall in love.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Groom is the seventh book in the Slayers Hockey series by the fabulous Mira Lyn Kelly. I love this series so hard! Mira always gives us the perfect mix of humor, sexiness, hockey and friendship. The writing is top-notch and the characters are sexy and fun! If you read Dirty Christmas, you got a glimpse of Diesel and Stormy. If you haven’t, go and read that right now! You won’t be sorry! I love nothing more than a grumpy sexy hero and Liam Diesel is the perfect one. Diesel and Stormy met at a bar in Vegas, both running from something. So what do you do when you swear off relationships? Get married of course. Then Diesel wakes up and she’s gone. A year later he sees her and he really only wants one thing, a divorce. But sometimes you get what you need and not what you want! Stormy doesn’t want to be divorced. There are worse things than staying married to the sexy hockey player. What’s the harm as long as they’re both on the same page? Right? Oh boy! I loved Diesel and Stormy so much! He is grumpy, but he’s also sweet and Stormy is bad@ss. Together they made me laugh, had me cheering, and fanning myself! I loved getting to see my beloved Slayers players and I loved seeing more Noel! Overall, the series just keeps getting better and better! So much so that I can’t even pick a favorite!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Groom is the seventh book in the Slayers Hockey series by Mira Lyn Kelly. You can read each book as standalone since each one is a different couple. If you read Dirty Christmas then you will get more of Noel and Misty’s story and finally find out what happened in Vegas with Noel’s teammate, Liam Diesel.
It was Christmas Eve and two people who want to forget meet at a bar in Sin City. By the end of the night they are married with prenup written on a cocktail napkin. No real names. No phone numbers. Most women don’t want lies but she did. She didn’t want to know anything about her new husband. A man who treated her with respect. Who admired her strength. Who woke up alone after she snuck out of the hotel room the next morning. Stormy didn’t think she would ever see her husband again…
The moment he saw his wife he was not going to let her go. At least until she signed the divorce papers. He hadn’t seen “Jane Jones” in a year and it was just his luck that he saw her at the airport. A one-hour conversation turned into more talking and then it was too late, they were more connected in an unexpected way. Liam and Stormy make a deal. Love was not involved. They would go their separate way, with a end date. They had their reasons for not wanting a real marriage. Ever. To anyone. What they didn’t expect a year ago was falling in love…
These two!! They are badass, passionate, and so much fun! They also have pasts they need to fight against. I loved this story! The writing is top-notch, the characters are so lovable, and I can’t wait for more!
“Put her down, Nichols.” Maybe I’ll need to stay a while to make sure she’s okay.
“Oh my God, Noel,” Misty laughs, trudging through the snow behind him. “You are so extra.”
“One more, gorgeous. Give me one more, and then I’ll give you what you want.”
“Remind me of all the reasons why we decided this was a bad idea.”
