It’s a single dad, second chance romance full of fun, sorrow, joy, hope, lust, love, friendship and family. Seven years ago Harley was the nanny for Peyton, a toddler who lost her mom. She almost made the mistake of almost kissing Gavin, but nothing happened. Then they moved away. Now they are back and when they run into each other Gavin wants to have lunch and catch up. Harley is thrilled to spend more time with Peyton. She’s not sure what to make of the connection she and Gavin seem to have. He seems to be interested in her, but that can’t be right? Can it? Gavin never forgot about Harley, but she was barely twenty years old back then. Now she’s all woman and he can’t deny how he feels about her. But there’s Peyton to consider. The more time they spend together the more time he wants with Harley. With Peyton and all to himself. Is he ready to move on? Put the past behind him and have a future with Harley? This is such a great, emotional story! So much loss but so much hope. I thought Gavin and Harley handled things like adults. And Peyton is freaking adorable! I love her honesty and openness. I loved how Gavin talked to his best friend and got advice. How Harley and her sisters are a team. And I loved how Harley stood up for herself. She finally realized what she wanted and she asked for it. It was great to see Avery, London and their men again. I’m sad the series is over, but it ended perfectly!

“Do you know where Gavin is taking you for dinner?”

“Nope, he just said wear something nice,” I reply.

“Did you pick up some sexy lingerie to wear under your dress?”

“I guess it depends on whose version of sexy we’re talking about.”

Avery’s version of sexy lingerie is upgrading from a sports bra to one with padding and black bikini briefs. London, on the other hand loves,[HH1] all things lace and satin and delicate. I’m somewhere between the two.

London stops messing with my eyebrows and gives me a stern look. “Please tell me you bought new underwear for this date.”

“Who says he’s going to see my underwear at the end of the night?” I challenge.

“Oh please.” London props a fist on her hip. “Isn’t Peyton sleeping over at her grandparents’ place?”

“As far as I know, yes.”

“So he’ll be able to come back to your place and stay the night if he wants,” London says.

“Do you think I should invite him back to my place?” I glance between my sisters.

“Why wouldn’t you?” Avery rubs her belly.

“It’s our first date.”

Now it’s Avery’s turn to give me a look. “You’ve been seeing him on a weekly basis since July. It’s October[CD2] [HH3] .”

“Because of Peyton.”

“Uh, we all know that’s bullshit.” Avery makes a circle motion and points at me.

“I was in a relationship for most of the time I was spending with them,” I argue.

Avery rolls her eyes. “Chad was a nice guy, but he was a fun-for-now boyfriend, not a get-serious boyfriend. And he was way too into fantasy sports. No one should be in that many fantasy leagues. It’s not normal, and that’s coming from a self-professed sports junkie.”

“Still, don’t you think I should wait a while before jumping into bed with Gavin?” I bring my fingers to my lips then drop them to my lap so I don’t ruin my gloss or my nails.

“It’s whatever feels right,” London says. “And you want to make sure that you’re actually into Gavin on his own, rather than the Gavin-and-Peyton package.”

“How is she going to figure that out unless she gets naked with him?” Avery argues.

“Sex complicates things. You know that better than anyone,” London says pointedly. She’s referencing the way Avery and Declan nearly imploded back when they crossed the line from best friends to best friends with a lot of benefits.

“My situation with Declan is not even remotely the same as what’s going on with Harley and Gavin. Declan had major commitment issues, and I made a stupid mistake. Now we’re super happy and totally in love and having a baby.” Avery turns back to me. “I think you need to do whatever is right for you. It’s up to you whether you let him see your underpants.”

London sighs and shakes her head, then her eyes go wide, and she takes me by the shoulders. “Please tell me your underwear are not cotton.”

“There’s nothing wrong with cotton underwear. They breathe,” Avery says defensively.

“There’s nothing wrong with them in the general sense, but for a date and potentially the first underpants sighting, cotton is a no-no.”

“They’re not cotton,” I assure her.

She arches a brow and I sigh.

“They’re satin with a lace waistband and a floral print.”

“Okay. As long as they don’t have a cartoon pattern on them, we’re good,” London says with relief.

My phone buzzes on the vanity, Gavin’s name flashing across the screen. I nab the device and check the message. He’s just pulled into Spark House. “He’s here. I’m so nervous. Why am I so nervous?”

“Because you want to get naked with him,” Avery says.

“Because you like him, and you’re changing the dynamic of your relationship,” London says.

“And you want to find out if he’s got the moves between the sheets.” Avery grins. She gives me a fist bump. “Just remember, you don’t need to wait five dates before you get in the sack with this one.”

“But don’t feel like you need to rush into anything either.” London turns me around once to make sure my dress isn’t wonky in the back, and then they’re ushering me into the hall.

“Go, go, go!” Tessa jumped up and down, rooting on Remy who’d thrown the Frisbee and was currently rounding the bases.

I scooped Scout into my arms, and he and I raced toward the Frisbee that’d rolled out the right side of the baseball field.

Scout was bouncing all over, his laughter filling the air, my little guy kicking my sides like I was a horse. “Hurry, Dad, hurry, Remy is so really fast, and we gotta catch her before she gets all the way to home base.”

I dipped down to snag the Frisbee, holding tight to Scout as I tipped him upside down, making him holler and laugh uncontrollably while Tessa was shouting, “You’re almost there, Remy! Whoop, whoop! Team Remy-T Wreckers coming in for the win. Yeah, baby!”

Scout’s eyes went wide. “Go, Dad! We gotta catch her. Rocket speed!”

I shifted him, tucking his side to mine so he could stretch out his arms like he was flying, and I was supplying the rocket propulsion as we bounded back the opposite direction, a bunch of sounds bubbling out of my mouth as I found a lightness I hadn’t felt in a long, long time.

Remy rounded third base.

Tessa jumped up and down on the pitcher’s mound, waving her hands in the air and cheering on my kid. “Go, Remy, go!”

Both their faces were red.

Joy radiated all around.

Guessed it was my joy, too.

This feeling in the air that might have been the best thing I’d ever felt.

Scout kept himself rigid, still zooming through the air. “After burners, Dad!”

I increased my speed a fraction.

Remy screamed and laughed as she ran for home, my daughter soaring free when her steps were often laden with reservation.

Her load too heavy.

I made sure that we just missed her as she stomped onto the base.

“Ahh, dang, you’re too fast.” I feigned the grumbled complaint while my little girl squealed in victory and shouted, “I did it! I did it!”

Tessa ran her way, her arms in the air. “You did it! You are a rockstar, Remington Hendricks!”

They jumped, high-fiving each other with both hands.

“Oh, man,” Scout whined. “We got a tie. How do we even know who’s the best?”

I pressed my lips to the top of his head. “Means we’re all the best, little man.”

“That’s Rocketman to you,” he told me.

A chuckle got free, and Tessa was giggling nonstop, her smile so bright, happiness this glow of warmth that surrounded her.

She poked Scout’s belly where I’d shifted him upright. “Pure awesomesauce, I tell you.”

He jumped out of my arms and into hers.

She caught him like she was completely accustomed to pint-sized shenanigans. “There’s my Rocketman! You’re off to Mars!” she sang as she swung him around.

Peals of his laughter rang in the air, and Remy moved to hold my hand, grinning in a way I hadn’t seen her do in so long that I’d almost forgotten what it looked like.

God, I wasn’t even sure how to navigate through it when I kept getting struck with an urge to capture it.

Hold it and protect it forever.

“Okay, I think that’s my favorite game.” Remy was almost shy to say it, though it was adrenaline and glee rushing all over her face.

“So fun!” Tessa agreed.

Everyone was panting with the exertion, sweat slicking our skin, and we moved back to where we had the blanket set up in the shade.

Tessa flopped down onto her back on it, Scout still held in her arms. Remy flopped right down beside her.

Tessa rolled her head in Remy’s direction so they were staring at each other where they lie on their backs. “Thank you for being on my team.”

“Best team ever.” Timidity might have filled Remy’s voice, but joy shined in her eyes.

They just sat there for a second, smiling at each other, something special moving between them.

Scout climbed off Tessa, and he crawled to the cooler and tossed open the lid. “I spy with my little eye a blue Popsicle.”

Like he hadn’t spotted it earlier when we were passing out sandwiches and fresh-cut fruit.

He reached for one.

“You’re supposed to ask first, little man,” I told him.

“Is it okay, Tessa?” He beamed at her. I was pretty sure those full lips would be enough to swindle the last dollar out of a starving man’s hand.

I blinked at him. “Excuse me? What am I, chopped liver?”

Scout shrugged. “Tessa’s got my back.”

Tessa sat up, pressing her fingertips to her mouth like she was trying to keep back her laughter.

“What are you giggling about?” I asked, voice low as I climbed down onto my knees at the edge of the oversized blanket.

“I think I found myself a couple of new besties.” Her smile softened, pure affection as she glanced between the two of them.

Remy smiled, too, and fuck, my chest tightened.

I loved to see my little girl happy.

“I’ll be your best friend because you brought me a Popsicle,” Scout supplied as he grabbed a handful of them and started to pass them out.

“One for Daddy-Doo, one for Remy-Roo, one for Tessa-Too.”

My kid, he was a poet.

“Dad, you better kiss her if you’re gonna marry her,” Scout said so nonchalant as he peeled the wrapper and stuck the blue bullet into his mouth. “Because in a minute, she’s gonna have blue lips, and that’s gross.”

I knew we were going to have to get these displays of affection right, but my nerves decided it was a fine time to short-circuit.

To go zapping and zinging in all those places she kept bringing to life.

Shaking me down and tightening my guts in a flurry of want as I looked at the woman who watched me with such a tenderness that my spirit groaned.

“You’ve got love, Dad,” Remy whispered.

Soft encouragement that cut me to the quick.

My child’s belief filling me full after I’d lost it.

Warily, I crawled forward on my knees, already towering over Tessa where she sat on the blanket.

My friend.

Curling my hand around the back of her neck, I drew her closer.

Fire flashed.

That feeling rising that I had to keep at bay.

But those blue eyes, they were so intense and deep and filled with this trust that spread like fingers through my senses.

The Game is Vi Keeland’s newest standalone. I loved Bella and Christian. They have a hilarious meet-cute and it just got better from there! Bella is left an NFL team from a father she never knew. Christian is the star quarterback who takes one look at her and knows he needs to spend more time with her. He shamelessly flirts and asks her out but she keeps saying no. He’s not going to give up until he gets a yes. He offers to help her get to know more about the team and the players and their working dinners turn into a friendship. He chases her but it’s the good chase. He doesn’t just want the end game, he wants the whole thing. Now he just has to convince her to take a chance on him. Bella doesn’t give in easily, but when she does, wowzas! Christian isn’t anything like she thought he would be. He’s sweet and nice and not a player. And he’s handsome and sexy! After spending time with him she just can’t say no anymore. Trusting someone is her biggest fear and she needs to trust in Christian to be kind to her heart. Christian and Bella are so fun together! I loved their banter and their chemistry is on fire! As always, Vi’s writing is fantastic and the story is compelling, emotional and fun. I loved that Christian was the one who was all in from the very beginning. It was refreshing to see the man want more!

The Game is Vi Keeland’s newest standalone. If I didn’t have a home project over the weekend I would had finished this book in one sitting. This man!! The perfect combo of confidence, swag, and humor. *swoon*

He was so not her type but she was all his. He was all in from the beginning, with her professionalism, crooked glasses, rambling…full-on sexy nerd and he was here for it. The problem? She didn’t fall for his charm. Oh, and she was his boss…

I don’t want to spoil anything but wow. What a ride! My name is Sandra and I am in love with a fictional character. Christian is just so swoon-worthy, sweet, hilarious and damn, his dirty mouth is 🔥. I don’t even know how Bella resisted the man for even a minute. Lol. But for real, I get it. She hasn’t had an easy life and I loved that her new status and money didn’t change her. I would 100% want to be her friend. She is stronger than she believes and beautiful inside and out. Together, on paper, they wouldn’t fit but love is not always rational. It’s a risk…

Cute but Psycho is the third book in the Gator Bait MC series by Lani Lynn Vale. We met Etienne and Matilda in Good Trouble and their story is an enemies-to-lovers romance! Etienne is friends with Bain and just out of jail. When he meets Matilda there’s something about her that he really likes. But she seems to hate him. He doesn’t know why, but he’s building her new clinic so he’s going to see her a lot so he has to get her to like him. Matilda has a crappy family. No one really loved her and she just wants to feel loved and safe. She also has sensory issues and people are jerks to her! She’s smart, pretty and speaks her mind. Once she and Etienne clear the air, she likes him again. They have a lot in common and he loves the things about her that make her unique. He knows just how to talk to her and give her what she needs. Their story was funny, sexy and emotional. It’s not my favorite of the series, I just couldn’t connect with these characters like I usually do. But I’m looking forward to more from the series!
