Synopsis

This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.

It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.

But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?

Unfortunately he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.

But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiseled abs and killer smiles.

But he got to me. They got to me. Him and his son and their messy, crazy life. But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.

And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?

Kara's Review

Worth the Risk is the newest sexy standalone by the fantastic K. Bromberg. Yes, it can be read as a standalone, but if you haven’t met Grayson’s brothers you are missing out. Grant and Grady had incredible stories and we’ve known and loved Grayson for a while now. He’s the peacekeeper in the family. He’s the middle brother, a single dad and a rescue helicopter pilot. He’s also a little broken and has a lot of baggage. He’s also crazy sexy, funny and an amazing dad. But when Sidney, a girl from his past, ends up on his doorstep he’s reminded of why he doesn’t trust her or anyone like her. Sidney is trying to save her family’s magazine so she created a Hot Dad contest. She didn’t know someone from high school was going to end up in the top twenty. She remembers Grayson. She wasn’t exactly nice to him back then, but people change right? Not according to Grayson. He isn’t going to make this easy on her. It isn’t helping that he’s wildly attracted to her but he doesn’t even like her. All they seem to do is get under each other’s skin. Bicker. Yell. Fight. It’s all just foreplay though. Grayson can’t stop thinking about her, but he has to make his son, Luke, his top priority. He thinks he knows Sidney but she’s surprising him every time they see each other. Sidney knows nothing about kids. She’s not even sure she wants a family and roots. But there’s something about Luke that gets to her. He’s sweet and funny and so much like his dad. When getting along for the sake of the contest turns into much more, what will happen when it’s over? Will Sidney be the woman who’s worth the risk? Will Grayson let his past ruin his future? I loved this story! Grayson. Sigh. He’s jerky, funny, sexy, smart and still so angry at the world. I love the dominant side of him and the fierce dad side. He’s the whole package. Sidney isn’t what she appears. She’s deeper than Grayson gives her credit for and she’s smart, beautiful and isn’t afraid to go after what she wants. I loved her determination and knowing that if you don’t take a risk you can’t win. Overall, I laughed, cried, got hot and bothered, and wanted to smack someone. It’s one of my favorite K. Bromberg books!

“Dad, what does ‘getting serviced’ mean?”

Christ. And the beat goes on.

“It means when you go to the car place and you get your oil changed.”

“You mean that dipstick thing?”

“Yes, and right now, that dipstick is Uncle Grady.”

“I’m out of breath, and we haven’t even gotten to the good part yet.”

“It’s good, all right, That I can promise you.”

“You’re a cocky bastard.” One that looks like a damn Adonis.

“You have no idea.”

Sandra's Review

Worth the Risk is the third book in the Everyday Heroes series by the very talented, K. Bromberg. If you haven’t had the chance to read the two previous books then I recommend that you should. It’s not required to enjoy this Grayson’s story but it will give you more insight on his brothers and their lives.
Grayson never wanted the attention. Not when he was a teenager. Not when he was saving lives. And he didn’t want it now but his brothers had other plans. That was why they entered him in this ridiculous Hot Dad contest. His small town already gossiped about him enough and now that he was in the Top 20, it was going to get even worse. He didn’t even know he was entered until she knocked on his door. Uptown Sidney. He didn’t have the time or energy for her. Especially for a princess on top of the hill who reminded him of his past. The only person he had time for was his son, Luke.
She needed him to be on board with this contest. It was what was going to give her the promotion that she wants. He could win if he just let her do her job but that wasn’t Grayson. He was difficult, infuriating, and too damn sexy for his own good. He was the total package. A sexy hero who didn’t want the recognition. A protective dad. A cocksure man who made women swoon. He was also a man who didn’t want to have anything to do with her or the magazine. He thinks she is some princess who doesn’t belong with the common folk. Can she prove to him that she has changed since she left ten years ago? Is that important only for the magazine or for herself? He might drive her crazy but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good thing.
Grayson and Sidney’s relationship is complicated. They have somewhat of a past but they were never together. She grew up on the hill while his family was blue-collared. Still is. She left the small town for the big city. He saves lives and takes care of his eight year old. She wears red-soled shoes while he wears boots. She never dreamed of having a family. He can’t imagine not having one. Different lives but they find themselves attracted to each other. She wants him. He wants her. She likes Luke. Her likes her. But Grayson has to protect his heart and more importantly, Luke’s. Will he let his past ruin a future before it even gets started? Will Sidney land her dream job? And will Grayson become a finalist?
I loved this story! If life didn’t get in the way, I would had read it in one day and not three. I loved Grayson even if he was an ass who made me want to slap him. And Sidney, she is kick ass. She goes for what she wants. Together, they are a couple who you will want to hug, smack, laugh with, and tease. It’s definitely not easy for these two but it’s worth it.
Overall…it’s the perfect addition to the series! I just love these brothers and their loves. They make me laugh, cry, and get all kinds of hot and bothered.
Note to self: Invest in a PS4
Quotes:
“He’s a hard one to compete for, and you’re a hard one to compete against.”
“Bullshit. I bet your ass there is no crown in this contest, or high heels to prance around in. If there is, I’m front row to take blackmail pictures of you.”
“So much for being a ninja,” I say.
“Shush,” he warns but snickers.

But by the time I reach her, my blood boils with irrationality spurred on by too much alcohol.

“Can I have a moment?” I ask as I walk up to her and grab her elbow, pushing her down the darkened hallway.

“What is your problem?” She hisses as she fights me every step of the way.

We get looks. I get looks. I don’t care because all I keep seeing is Vince’s hands on her arm. His eyes on her tits. His bullshit game I can spot a mile away.

I find the closest door down the hallway leading to the bathrooms, and it opens. I push her through it, barely noticing that it’s an office of sorts before the door is shut, her back is up against it, and my mouth is covering hers.

Take.

Goddammit. That’s my only thought as I fit my lips to hers and take out my anger on her mouth with tongue and teeth and every fucking lick and nip in between.

“What—”

“I’m so pissed at you.”

It’s all I say. It’s the only chance I give her to come up for air before my lips are back on hers. Before my tongue wars with hers. Before my body admits it would beg, borrow, and steal in order to taste every other part of her.

Groan.

I swallow the tiny sound she makes in our kiss as my hands hold her neck still and my lips wage an all-out assault. She hesitates—just a split second—before she reacts. Before her body bows into me, and her mouth argues back.

Fist.

Her hand in my shirt. Her other hand at the back of my neck as our bodies meet—pressed knee to chest. Her perfume in my nose. Her hair tickling my cheeks. The feel of her tits against my chest.

Give.

I can’t get enough.

I’m mad at her.

I want her.

I don’t want to want her.

Christ, do I want her.

“Gray.” A murmured protest.

I tear my lips from hers, shove off the door I have her pressed against, and stride to the other side of the room.

“You are . . . you just . . .” It’s as if I can barely breathe. Christ, I’m mad at you.”

She stands there, lips parted, chest heaving, and golden brown curls messed from my hands, but her eyes look hurt. A hurt I don’t want to see but can’t deny.

“Why?”

“You did this,” I accuse as I try to manage the anger that’s waging a war against my desire.

“Did what?” Her eyes narrow. Her hand goes to press against her chest.

“Made me want you.”
