And our friendship would shatter into a million pieces.

The second worst thing?

Fall in love with your best friend.

5 out of 5 stars

Ruthless Princess is the first book in the Mafia Royals series by the fabulous Rachel Van Dyken. The Queen of Mafia. The Spinner of heart wrenching tales. The purveyor of addicting stories. Mafia. The Eagle Elite. We love them. We fear them. We miss them. They grew up, fell in love. Lost some along the way. Had families. The Mafia Royals are their children. The heirs to the Five Families. First rule, no dating each other. It complicates things. Serena and Junior are not supposed to be together. It’s not possible. Except it is. They are best friends. They hate each other. They love each other. But the price you pay to love your enemy is death. The queen and king can’t be who they are supposed to be and be together? Can they? What happens when the heirs decide to take matters into their own hands? To think for themselves? Can they save Serena and Junior from the ultimate sacrifice for family? Oh man! This story gutted me and put me back together like only Rachel can. My love for Nixon, Chase, Phoenix, Sergio, Tex, Dante, and Andrei is only stronger after meeting their kids. The ones who are taking over and showing their fathers they are who they made them. I’m in love with this second generation and I can’t wait to read each and every story! Rachel keeps giving us what we want. Raw, real, sexy mafia with a side of humor and blood. I loved every minute even though I had to read through my tears and laughter. I never doubted she was going to give me what I needed in the end.     The long wood table was piled high with enough food to feed a small country. Then again, we were Italian; we weren’t really fans of portion control. Broken heart? Have some bread! Broken finger? Try the wine; it’s a Malbec! Near death? The pasta should help!   With a grunt, he tugged my thighs open . “I need you.” “You have me. You always have me. Whenever you need me,” I pulled back, lips swollen. “After all, I live to serve my king.”

Holy. Fuck. I didn’t think I would make it. I took me days. I savored it. It wasn’t planned but I am glad it happened. Because again. Holy. Fuck. I was warned but it was more than I ever thought possible. I haven’t even read all the EE books and it still put me though the ringer. On that note, you do not need to read the EE to start the Royal Mafia series. I do recommend reading the prequel, Royal Bully (FREE, btw) though. Rachel has brilliantly made it so you will not feel lost without reading the OG Eagle Elite characters’ books. I will promise you though, you will want to after. I can’t really get into the storyline without spoiling and the synopsis is perfection.
This story is everything. It’s mafia so it has it all. Darkness. Family. Betrayal. Loyalty. Hate. Love. Secrets. Lies. Lust. Guns. Knives. Wine. And I felt every single feel. Seriously, I wanted to gut someone. I wanted to hug another. I wanted to take a glass of wine just watch. The Family is beautifully and brutally intense. You follow the rules or pay the price. With your blood. You are in from the moment you are born. Only way out is death. So, like I said, it’s intense. I felt like I was in the book. Like I was part of the family. Loyal to them. It’s crazy I know but shit. And you know you don’t always agree with family but still love them and this is no different. And within the intensity there was Junior and Selena. Their love. Their hate. They are heirs. They knew they could never live a normal life. There is no happily ever after. They have to hate to survive. It was war. It was the only way.
Ok, I don’t even know what I just wrote. I am still a mess over this book. I cried. I laughed. I cringed. I got scared. I cried some more. I felt it all and now I will be in a major book hangover. Worth it. So worth it. I love this family and so happy that we are now getting the second generations’ stories. I will never forget Junior and Selena’s. And I can’t wait for the next one…I am going to need a box of tissues for it, I just know it. Shit. It’s going t be spectacular.
P.S. I am in love with this cover!!!
Never had there been such hatred between a king and queen.
Tex sighed and then gave Breaker a little shove. “No killing in front of the bacon.”
“Thank God because I’ve been sneaking pieces during that entire speech, so hungry.” Breaker stole another piece only to get it smacked out of his hand by Tex.
Because if you think a mob boss is scary, then you really don’t want to piss off one of the moms.
I shuddered.
Excerpt: He licked his lips and repeated what he always did when we had to perform, when we had to do our jobs. “I won’t be gentle with you.” Our foreheads touched, my chest heaved with exertion like it was hard to breathe when he was so near, but really it was the promise that killed me, a promise that he wouldn’t enjoy touching me ever again, that I was more curse than cure, and yet, I knew it was all we would ever get, these fleeting moments where we did our job too well. “Then make it hurt, baby.” My voice cracked. “Make it hurt.” His lips parted in a groan as he spun me into his arms and crushed his mouth to mine. It was part pain, part pleasure as he pulled my hair then slid a hand up my shirt like nobody was watching when everyone was. We broke apart, mouths swollen, my lower lip was bleeding. A reminder for both of us—this was no cease-fire, this wasn’t real, it was all a carefully constructed show. “Mmmmm…” I smirked. “Looks like Junior’s not playing around tonight, ladies.” Screams went up as Junior grabbed my ass and squeezed so hard, I knew I would bruise later. He roughly pulled me against his chest and nipped at my neck. I told my body it didn’t feel good. I told my heart we were safe. And I forced myself to believe the lie every single time we touched. Because to do otherwise—would destroy me.
