Smitty’s Sheriff, a sexy, heart-warming MM romance by Cardeno C. is available now!

Todd is too flakey. Richard is too stubborn. Together, they’re perfect. A May-December couple get a second chance at love.

Retired soldier Richard Davis wants a stable life in a quiet town with a forever man. Becoming the sheriff of Hope, Arizona, accomplishes two of his three goals, but instead of finding a serious partner, he falls for too-young-to-be-committed and too-flakey-to-be-serious Todd Smitty. Richard won’t find the right man if he’s obsessed with the wrong one, so he walks away from Todd.

It’s lust at first sight when Todd meets his sister’s army friend. He sets his sights on the worldly, strong, stable older man, and the more time he spends with Richard, the harder he falls. But after three years together, Richard cuts off all contact with no explanation.

When a mutual obligation requires Todd to move into Richard’s house, he’s thrilled at the opportunity to earn a second chance. Ignoring Todd from across town was hard enough. Can Richard resist temptation under his own roof?

“Todd.” Leanne snapped her gaze toward him. “You’re not too young to know the nickname people used to call guys named Richard, are you?

“Uh.” Todd blinked and darted his gaze between Rich and Leanne. They were finally paying attention to him and all he wanted was to go back to being invisible.

Dick,” she said. “Big D got his nickname before we met, but some of us in my squad figured it wasn’t just about his last name being Davis. So we had a bet going.”

She flicked her gaze to Rich again, as if expecting him to interrupt.

He didn’t.

“Problem is, we couldn’t agree on which side won because we couldn’t get solid evidence.” She focused on Todd. “But now I have an eyewitness.”

“I, uh, I don’t—” Todd stammered, hating being in the middle of what felt like an argument.

“Don’t let Sparky get to you,” Rich said, still completely unbothered.

“Some of the guys saw Big D in the latrines, and they said he’s big all over, but when they tried to collect on the bet, the other side made a good point.” She narrowed her eyes menacingly at Rich. “If the man’s a show-er, that means he isn’t grow-er, so he doesn’t actually have a big D, now does he? That means the other side should win.”

Todd drew his eyebrows together and tried to follow Leanne’s question. “Are you saying you guys have a bet going on the size of Rich’s dick?”

“Yep.” Leanne leaned against the chairback, looking smug. “And you, little brother, are going to settle that bet.”

Normally, Todd had no problem talking about a guy’s package. Hell, in the right situation, dicks were damn near his favorite topic. But he had never spoken to anyone about Rich’s body or, really, anything else related to Rich because he knew that was off limits. Of course, Leanne was asking him the question because she already knew he had the answer.

Flicking his gaze toward Rich, Todd said, “Am I allowed to…”

“It’s a simple question,” Leanne snapped. “Is he a grow-er or a show-er?”

Rich didn’t tell him to stay quiet so Todd figured he had permission to answer. “Both.”

She blinked.

“Seriously.” He bobbed his head. “Length, girth.” He held his hands far apart. “It’s awesome.” As long as he had permission to share, he figured he should be thorough in his explanation. “His balls too.”

Leanne coughed.

“I mean it. They’re huge. Each one’s a mouthful by itself.”

“Ehm.” Leanne cleared her throat. “Thanks.” Looking decidedly uncomfortable, she held her palm up in a stop motion. “I’m good on the details. You don’t need to keep going.”

“Are you sure?” After a lifetime of being the butt of the joke with his siblings, Todd enjoyed turning the table. “I can sketch you a picture, but I’ll need one of those extra-long pieces of paper if you want it to scale.”

“That won’t be necessary.” Leanne actually blushed. “I’m all set.”

Rich threw his head back and laughed. “Thanks, Todd. Eighteen years these jackasses have had the silly bet going and I do believe you just put it to rest.”

Thrilled with the praise and relieved to be playing and flirting with Rich again, Todd smiled broadly. “No problem. When it comes to your big D, I’m always willing to lend a hand.”

He settled into the chair, comfortable for the first time that night, and when the conversation turned back to stories about people he didn’t know, he truly didn’t mind. Eighteen years was a long time. If Rich had cared about putting an end to the bet, he’d probably had a dozen different chances. That he did it now, meant his goal had been less about the bet and more about a point. Todd knew something about Rich that nobody else did, or at least nobody who mattered enough to meet his friends. That meant Todd mattered. Leanne knew that now. And so did he.

5 out of 5 stars

I’m a big fan of Cardeno C’s. I love her writing, her characters and the towns she creates. I’ve read all the books in the Hope series and they are all full of humor, sexiness and heart. We’ve met Todd Smitty before. He’s a cutie pie! He’s also adorable, flirtatious and kind of a player. Todd had a long time hook up situation with Richard, the town sheriff. One day they were having fun together and the next Rich broke  it off. Months have gone by and now they have to live together to help out Todd’s sister. Rich didn’t want to give up Todd, but he’s older and wants a stable life. Someone to come home to and to share his life with. Todd is handsome and young. Rich didn’t think he was ready for a real relationship. Now that Todd is living in his house he’s noticing things about Todd that have changed. He’s more responsible. He’s more  mature. But he’s still the same fun, sweet, sexy man he knew. He also knows how to listen and take direction. That’s something that turns Rich on. A lot. Can Todd prove to Rich that he wants the same things as he does? Will Rich be open to see the new Todd and make his move before it’s too late? I loved this story. Rich and Todd are so damn cute together. Rich is big and tough and Todd is smaller, but so much fun. They complement each other perfectly. I can’t wait for the next in the series!

“The question was about your favorite part of my outfit not your favorite body part.”

“What outfit? You’re naked.”

“God, you’re cute.”

Smitty’s Sheriff is the third novella in the Hope series. Each book can be read as standalone but you can easily read the whole series in a day. It’s a fast, sexy, and fun series about the men in a small town called Hope. Cardeno C. has a way of writing so much story in such a small amount of time. She makes it look easy when I know it can’t be. Smitty’s Sheriff is Todd and Richard’s story.
Richard walked away from Todd six months ago. He cut all contact with the young man that he spent sporadic nights with for three years. He is now forty and wanted someone he could come home to every night. He wished it could have been Todd but he was too young to settle down. And Todd didn’t share. It was three years of hook-ups. He had to move on. But, he couldn’t stop thinking about Todd and how maybe it could have been more…
Todd wanted Richard the minute he saw him. It didn’t matter that he was only twenty and Richard was thirty-seven. He wanted the man that took control. Control over his thoughts. Control over his safety. He wanted him and he had him for three years. Some nights anyway and in secret. Then Richard ends it. And it causes Todd to grow and when he gets his chance to spend a few months near him, he takes it. Maybe this is his only chance to figure out why Richard walked away.
Richard and Todd’s relationship for those three years was lacking communication. Now, it’s time to communicate. Will they get finally be on the same page?
Overall…I thought this was a great story! It’s a fast read full of heat, heart, and growth. It was awesome catching up with the rest of the characters in the city of Hope. I have a feeling this isn’t the end of the series.
“Better safe than sorry.”
“That’s, like, your life mantra or something. I should get it printed on a T-shirt for you.”
“Ha ha.”
“I’m not meant to be viewed at a G rating.”
“I like your outfit.”

This is the first Novella in the Hope Series and also the first piece of work by C. Cardeno that I have read and it will not be my last. There are novellas where you don’t think there is enough to satisfy you and then there are ones that pack a lot in….this was that kind. There was a ton to the story in a short amount of time.

Jared lives in a small town and owns a farm that grows all kinds of vegetables for stores and restaurants. His best friend is his ex-wife and really is the only person he really talks to about everything. He is also still close to her father, they are friends and also for business reasons, he is the supplier for his restaurants. So when his ex’s half brother needs to get his head on straight she wants to send him to the farm to work. He is 24 and has a Graduated College but is spoiled and just wants to party. Jared agrees to have him there…he will make him work for his keep.

When Lucas arrives and is greeted by Jared it is not fun. He doesn’t want to be there. He want to just go home and he also has had a crush on Jared for years but doesn’t want him to know it…he doesn’t know if Jared is even playing on the same team. Afterall, he was married to his sister. What Lucas doesn’t know is that Jared feels the same way but doesn’t think a hot young man would even look at him.

After some time in the office of the Farm. Lucas is actually enjoying the work but not the food. They seem to be getting along and learning more about each other like they never thought they would. They get closer and closer everyday and things turn hot but Lucas is suppose to finding his own way home to Los Angeles from Hope, Arizona. He needs to learn to take care of himself. Will Lucas learn his lesson? Can he change his ways? Does he find his way home?

This was a great novella. There are many lessons, sweet and some sexy times. There is a lot to the story in such a small amount of time. I didn’t think it was too short. It was perfect for a few hours.

Trying to see the bright side, he told himself that meant he’d be able to stare his fill at the walking wet dream without being caught and without having to make conversation. Those were both wins.

“You know how to build furniture?” “I built the end tables and coffee table in the living room, my bed and night stands, and the porch out front. All from scratch.”

“Are you going to bring me home?” He crocked.

“I’m doing something better,” his father aid softly. “I’m giving you the chance to find your own way home.”

McFarland’s Farm is the first book in the Hope series. I read Jesse’s Diner and I knew I had to have this one. I love the city of Hope, Arizona. What’s not to love. Nice people, family, friends, sexy farmers. Jared McFarland loves his farm and his work. He’s lonely, but he likes his life. When his ex-wife asks a favor, he can’t say no. Even though it means sexy Lucas will be coming to live with him for a while. Jared always had a crush on Lucas, and now he has to share his home with him. This could get tricky. Lucas is a spoiled brat. He’s used to getting his way, but something about Jared and his farm calms him. He’s always been attracted to the sexy, burly, huge man, but he thought he was straight. When Lucas finds out Jared might be attracted to him too, he makes his move. Will Jared let Lucas into his heart or will he be too afraid he’ll lose him? I loved this story. It has heart, love, sexiness and humor. All my favorite things. This series is great! Cardeno’s novellas never fall short. They deliver all the goods!

“I’ll make you a deal. I’ll stay here with you tonight, and if the, uh, urge to practice strikes, I’ll make myself available.”

“You sure are a giver.”

“No, I’m actually way more of a receiver.”

Jesse’s Diner is the second in the Hope series, but it can be read as a standalone. This is a feel good read with a lot of emotion, humor and heat.  Jesse dies and leaves his diner to twenty-two year old Tanner, who’s quiet, soft spoken and has had a crush on Jesse’s partner, Steve, for years. When Mike, Steve and Jesse’s son, calls Tanner worried about his dad, Tanner and Steve start to spend more time together. Tanner has no experience with men or relationships, but he’s attracted to Steve. Steve is thirty-nine years old and he’s not ready to give up on love. When he realizes that he wants Tanner he attempts to flirt and tease and I laughed out loud. Tanner and Steve are so frigging cute! Steve is hot and sexy and Tanner is sweet and innocent. They are perfect for each other. Sometimes love finds you right when you need it.

“At some point I’d like to hear the ends of those sentences, but right now, I’m taking the yes as a win and moving on.”

Talking about sex wasn’t easy for me, mostly because it involved talking but partly because it involved sex.

“I’m a twenty-two-year-old virgin lying on the sex god I’ve had a crush on since I was sixteen. There is no “too much” in this scenario.”

5 out of 5 stars

Jesse’s Diner is the second book in the Hope Series but a total standalone. I read the first book and loved it so I was happy to see more to the series, the small town of a Hope has some amazing guys.

Tanner and Mike have been best friends since the first day Tanner moved to town six years ago at the age of sixteen. Mike’s father knew there was something special about Tanner from the start and gave him a job at his diner and after his death, Jesse left the diner to him. He was now a 22 year old restaurant owner and his only true friend lives away at college. And then there is Steve, Tanner’s crush since he was 16 and Mike’s father…

Steve is a thirty-nine year widow. His partner was 20 years older than he was but age didn’t matter, they were together for 20 years before Jesse passed away eighteen months ago. Most recently, he decided that it time to move forward with his life including changes in his career and in his love life and when Tanner showed up at his door with a hot meal and great company, it was sign that it was time. Time to see where their friendship might go…

Steve and Tanner are so fun! Tanner might have had a huge crush on Steve but he never noticed that Steve might feel the same way. They learn from one another, support each other and it’s beautiful. But, what will Mike think of their relationship? Will the age difference be an issue? Will Tanner’s reality be better than the fantasy?

I wanted a quick, sexy and funny M/M read today and this was perfect! I hope there is more to come in the series.

“There’s something I’ve been wanting and I didn’t have the chance to get it earlier.” He stepped inside and stood so close I could feel his body heat through my shirt. “I couldn’t sleep without finding out if it was available.”

Oh holy Christ on a cracker. The front view was even better than the back. I had never, and I mean never, seen a man fill out underwear like that. And that included the models on the boxes and the websites. I’d have been doing the public a service if I’d snapped a picture and emailed it to Calvin Klein.

“How’s Mike?” I asked, my back to Steve.

“He’s twenty going on horny.”
