From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.
They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?
So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.
At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.
Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.
I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.
They didn’t know about our past.
He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.
As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.
I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.
Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.
And soon I might be breaking all the rules.
Author’s note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.
I have read a few of Penelope’s book and after the first book I was a fan. I will now read anything she writes even if it was on the back of a milk carton and I don’t even drink milk. Anyway…this is a story about a Mack Daddy and his son’s new teacher…
Eight years. It’s been eight years since she saw the only man to break her heart. And now here he was on the first day of school with his son. In her classroom. They were suppose to be in Virginia with his wife being a happy little family. But she was wrong. They all just moved to Boston and are not one big happy family. They were a broken one. And the minute she heard the name Frankie come out of his mouth, she knew she was in trouble. He was the only one that called her by that name and hearing it again brought back some great but also some heartbreaking memories. How the hell was she going to get through this school year? All of these butterflies in her stomach were already twisting together and it was only the first day.
Mack knew it was a sign. A sign that this was his chance to get the girl. The girl he would rather do laundry with than spend time out with his buddies. The girl that gave him the best birthday present ever. The one he walked away from. But now, he was in Boston and it was time to get the girl. They never really had a chance the first time around but now, it was a different story. In his eyes anyway. He has to prove that she could trust him. Show that he never stopped thinking about her. That he would not walk away from her again. No matter what. But first, he needs to find out if there is even a chance. She could have moved on and is happy but if there is even a 1% chance. He is going after it.
Mack and Frankie’s relationship is a complicated one with two parts. Throughout the book it will go back and forth from present to past. It’s fun, flirty, quirky, sad and beautiful story. It’s in both parts Frankie brings joy into Mack’s life. She is different from anyone else he has ever know. And Mack brings balance into Frankie’s life. She tries harder to not give a fuck about what others think. They have a very special kind of relationship that I absolutely loved reading about.
I loved this book! Second chance romance is one of my favorites and this one had some twists to it. And I do love twists!! The writing was spectacular and the characters are well-developed. I fell hard for Mack from the beginning but I also wanted to slap him. But, I still loved him. He is hilarious, flirty, sweet, and goes for what he wants. Frankie is well Frankie. She has her anxieties and they do make for some fun moments, she is beautiful without knowing it, sweet but knows when not to be, and just all around awesome. But it’s not just about their love story. It’s also about family, friendship, trust, fate, and joy. It’s not an easy road for these two. Not at all. And that’s what makes it real.
Overall…Mack is one of my favorite single dads! From the beginning I knew I was going to fall in love with these characters and their story. It made me laugh, swoon, angry, cry, and hot and bothered. I didn’t want it to end.
P.S. His neighbor is the best!!
His eyes trailed down to my black pencil skirt where I’d spilled the white paint earlier. He grinned. “I see you’re still spilling suspicious, white substances on yourself.”
“I didn’t feel like putting on a bra just to give Mack some garlic. Didn’t want to shock the poor guy with my waist warmers.”
“Well, once you go Mac, you never go back.” He winked.
“That was cheesy even for you, Morrison.”
Mack Daddy is Penelope Ward’s new standalone. What’s sexier than a single dad going after the one that got away? That’s right, nothing! Mack is back with a vengeance. He’s moved back to Boston to claim the woman he’s always loved. So, what’s the problem? She’s his son’s teacher and she’s already in a relationship. But that won’t deter Mack. He needs to tell Frankie why he’s here. He needs to show her why she should pick him. Francesca never forgot Mack. How she felt about him. How she wanted him. How he broke her heart. Through a series of flashbacks, we learn how they met, became best friends and how their relationship ended. Mack is sexy, funny and downright delicious. His mouth is as dirty as his mind. Francesca is smart, beautiful and caring. Can Mack prove to Francesca that he’s going win her back? Will she be able to trust him again? I loved this story. It’s a second chance romance for a couple that really didn’t have a fighting chance the first time. Now, years later they are older and wiser. Mack knows what he wants and I loved that he was able to articulate his feelings. He wasn’t wishy washy at all and it was a nice change of pace from usual main male characters. There are a lot of twists and secrets that made me mad, but I knew Mack was a fighter. Don’t miss Mack Daddy and his Frankie Jane!
“You feel that? Feel how it’s beating for you right now. Every time I even allow myself to think about you, it beats like this. And I don’t know how to make it stop.”
“See what? That I’m a crass kind of sexual innuendos who’ll use any opportunity he can get to make you blush? Yes. Then I am completely guiltt. Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.”
“Shh. Don’t say that.”
“Maybe that’s what I need, to go to confession.”
“You have issues.”
