Get Tragic

Battle Crows MC, Book 5

Lani Lynn Vale

Release Date: July 12, 2022

About the Book

Usually when you find out you have a stalker, you don’t fall in love with him.

But Banger Olivia Crest isn’t your normal, run of the mill, everyday girl. Banger is a truck driver who just so happens to know how to sling drinks in her spare time.

She’s had a bad hand dealt to her time after time, and the last thing that she wants is to go all in. At least, that’s until she meets the geeky biker with his shy looks, and his surprisingly awesome fighting skills.

Easton McKennick, ex-FBI agent and newest member of the Battle Crows MC, never really intended to actually reveal that he’d been stalking Banger since his early days in the FBI. In fact, he never intended to do anything at all when it came to the woman that held his heart.

That was, until she offered to be his fake date to a police ball that just so happened to be where his own stalker would be. To sell it that he was happy and he’d moved on from his previous relationship, Banger and Easton pretend they’re a couple.

All it takes is two hours for them both to realize that there’s not very much pretending going on.

The only problem is, Easton’s stalker put a bull’s-eye on their backs, and they don’t know how to fix it.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Get Tragic is the fifth book in the Battle Crow MCs series by Lani Lynn Vale. This is Easton and Banger’s story! I’m really enjoying this series and I had already fallen for Easton. We’ve been learning stuff about him over the last few books and I was so excited to learn more about the sexy, shy man. He’s been pretty much stalking Banger for years. He’s been chatting with her at the bar where she works, but never got up the courage to ask her out. Banger always thought Easton was intriguing and sexy, but when she quits and needs a place to live, she finds herself living with Easton. Now that they are spending more time together, the attraction is crazy hot. He finally admits to her that he’s been stalking her and she doesn’t even care. It just means she doesn’t need to explain all the horrible things that have happened to her in the past. Easton has always had a thing for her and now that she’s in his house, it is on. He knows once he touches her, he’s never giving her up. Easton also has a stalker and now that he and Banger have been seen together she keeps showing up. Trying to get Banger in trouble and then it gets worse. Now Easton and Banger have to worry about their lives. Good thing his brother, Trouper, and his MC brothers are there to help. Along with his team (who I love and hope we see more of). It’s a fast paced, fun, sexy story with some suspense and lots of laughs. Looking forward to more from the series!

More about the books inside:

WARNING TRACK

Colleen Callahan is exactly where she’s always dreamt of being.

Hayes Swindell would prefer hell over the place he ended up.

Fate has other plans, though. If their forbidden chemistry is found out, it could mean the end of both of their careers. Except hurtling so close to the danger zone has never felt more right.

Should they head for disaster together, risking it all, or course-correct and save themselves the ultimate price of heartbreak and scandal?

STEALING HOME

Walker Callahan has loved from afar for as long as he can remember.

Hannah Giraldi never wants to fall in love again.

Can Walker risk his own future and show her how to trust again? Or will the feelings he’s kept hidden for years throw him out of the game before he can even attempt to play?

Is there a way to heal all of the broken parts, or will Hannah go down swinging while attempting one more shot at a happily ever after?

CHECK SWING

Sinclair Callahan is a trust fund baby.

Francesca Kade is an independent goal-getter.

Can he shoulder the responsibility he’s always shrugged off? Or will he balk at the real-life complications and strike out completely?

Will she ever be able to trust that he’ll put both her and his responsibilities before his vices? Or will their differences cost them the game?

CONTROL ARTIST

Dahlia Akana has no idea where she’s going in life.

Garrett Chester has always known exactly what he wants.

When secrets, lies, and a humiliating public scandal rock their world, will she be able to stay with him? Fight for him? Or will her age-old tactic of fleeing erase any shot at a happily ever after?

Can he put the rumors to rest, piece together a career in shambles, and be the hero she needs?

TAGGING UP

All Anna Callahan wants is her independence.

Clark Nyle swore a long time ago he’d never be committed to anyone.

But, when their secret is finally discovered, it sends the already skittish bad boy running for the hills. And although she claimed to want freedom with no strings, Anna can’t help but feel the sharp pull to be with him forever.

When they’re found out, he’s forced to choose between his demons and the disapproval of his closest friends … or her.

⚾️ WARNING TRACK
Warning Track is the first book in a new series by Carrie Aarons. I love Carrie’s books and when she announced a new series i was beyond excited. A baseball family? Yes, please! That’s all I really knew since I don’t read blurbs.

Colleen has been training for this her whole life. She never expected it to happen at the age of twenty-eight while her father was carted off to prison but here she is…the new GM of the Packton Pistons. A baseball team that needed to work on its reputation after the family was disgraced by her father. She knew it would be hard being so young and a woman but now it’s all she has time for. Work. To prove she was made for this. To prove she earned her position. To prove she can bring this team to victory. And after meeting their new-star player, she is even more determined to prove that she is not her father.

Hayes doesn’t want to be there. He was supposed to be in LA with his team. Instead, he was in PA because of crooked Callahan and his illegal trades. He was stuck for one season then he was out. If he didn’t love the sport so much he would just slide by on this team. He hated the Callahans for what he did. They were enemy number one in his book. The problem? Colleen. She was beautiful, smart, professional, and he wanted her bad.

Off-limits: not to be interfered with, considered or spoke of. Yep! That is exactly these two. They don’t want a scandal or a bad reputation. A GM and a ball player would do just that. Then there is love. They just clicked even when they first met. Is love worth it? What will happen at season’s end? Will she prove to everyone including herself that she deserved her title? Will he go back to LA?

I ♥️ Hayes and Colleen!! If I didn’t start this book on a crazy day then I would had finished it in one sitting. I loved their banter and flirting. The sexual build-up. Their overall characters. They are just good people. I can’t wait for the rest of the series. I don’t know who is up next but I have an idea and I am for it. Thank you, Carrie for another amazing book and start to a series. 💞

Quotes:

Her body is liquid sin, flowing with its petite curves and exposed skin, that if I reached out and touched, would most likely slide like warm butter under my fingertips.

“You’re fucking beautiful like this. Hair down, wild and uninhibited.”

Right now, I have no idea what my future holds. But there is a ticking clock counting down in the back of my head, like something out of Peter Pan. Eventually, it’s going to catch up to me, like that goddamn crocodile.

⚾️ STEALING HOME
Stealing Home is the second book in the Callahan Family series. Each can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading Warning Track since it will give you a better look into the family. It is also where I started to fall for Walker, and wanted to hug Hannah and punch her husband in the junk.

Six years ago Walker watched the woman he loved walk down the aisle and towards his teammate, Shane. She was always Shane’s but he felt something for Hannah from the moment he met her. That connection only got stronger and stronger through the years from afar. They chatted at parties but never in a flirty way. He knew she didn’t belong to him but to an asshole. He didn’t get it but they had a family together. What he didn’t expect was what happened that night outside of the stadium. The night that changed everything…

Six years ago Hannah married a man she loved. Five years ago he started to show his true colors. He was an abuser. She stayed for her kids. She stayed because she thought she was weak. Now, she was done. She had to be strong for herself and for her kids. She couldn’t go back. It was time to start over but first she had to go through more hell. And by her side was Colleen the owner of the baseball team Shane used to play for. She also found safety with Walker. A man who was so sweet and was there for her one of her worst days. She saw and felt something between them but it was too fast to give her heat to another man. Could she even trust another man after what Shane had put her through? She also didn’t want a knight in shiny armor. She had to do this on her own.

Wow. I think Carrie did an amazing job at writing such a hard subject. I knew this one wasn’t going to be all hearts and rainbows. It made it more raw. Hannah is a badass woman and mother. Walker is a hot sweetheart. I loved them along with the littles. They are adorable and deserve happiness. All of them. I am excited for the next Callahan to find his!

Quotes:

Hannah doesn’t lean in, but she doesn’t back away. Coaxing, ever so slowly, I kiss her with the tenderness of a thousand feathers.

“Walker … you don’t want to date me.” She leans her head back against the seat, sighing as she looks at me.
“You have no idea how false that statement is. I’ve been waiting six years for a date with you.” My voice is quiet, but deadly serious.

“I know I’m not just seeing you, Hannah. Your girls are your world. I want to be a part of that, too. I’m not shy in telling you that I want every part of you, especially the part where you’re this fantastic, strong mother.”

⚾️ CHECK SWING
Check Swing is the third book in the Callahan Family series by Carrie Aarons. You can read as standalone but I highly recommend the series since they are all unique, beautiful, and amazing. I have been waiting for Sin’s story. The bad boy in the family. Just his name is swoon worthy and trouble.

Sinclair is the black sheep of the family. The party boy who can’t keep a job even when they are handed to him. His family ownsthe Packton Pistons, each member works for the team in some capacity. He hit rock bottom a little over a year ago and now it was his time to get in the game of life. One year sober and his father sends him to spring training to be an assistant video production manager. A job he didn’t earn but one he hopes to enjoy and stick with. What he wasn’t planning for was her. A woman who intrigues him from the moment he sees her. And, the perk was that she had no idea who he was. He hated not telling her, it let him be himself though. To not just be a Callahan but Sin. A man who made her laugh, hot and bothered, and have a spring training fling with.

That was what it was only supposed to be. Three months. No strings attached. Frankie didn’t want anything more than that but when he left, she was heartbroken. Now, she was in Packton with a promotion. She was excited about her new job. What she didn’t expect was to see him. And gets the shock of a lifetime when he is a Callahan. He might want to start fresh but can she trust him after lying about who he was? Was it all a lie? His feelings? His troubles? What else was he hiding?

I loved these two! Sin is more than anyone expected. I knew he was something but damn. And Frankie is a badass. She knows what she wants and doesn’t play around. They are both determined and motivated. Together, they are full of passion, love, and laughter. I am so hoping there are more stories in this series! I can see the next book…

Quotes:

Sinclair is trouble, that’s for sure. Just the kind of trouble I want to try several times before I know better.

“I wasn’t aware you were emotionally off-limits. Now my plan to get you to fall in love with me is thwarted.” She snaps her fingers as if to say aw shucks.

Like she said, trying harder is worth a lot. In this instance, it’s worth everything.

⚾️ CONTROL ARTIST

Control Artist is the fourth book in the Callahan Family series by Carrie Aarons. Each can be read as standalone since they are different couples but I highly recommend reading the series since they are tied together. If you have then you have met Dahlia (Hannah’s sister) and Garrett (the rookie).

Dahlia moved to Packton two years to support her sister and nanny her nieces. It was supposed to be temporary but she hasn’t had the pull to move on. Yet. Which is surprising to her since she was a nomad and loved to travel and not settle in one place. Her family doesn’t get it. They just want her to be happy and Hannah doesn’t see that. Dahlia doesn’t see her future tied to one man! Children, and a white picket fence. She doesn’t want that. She wants to be free. Garrett would be perfect for just that. A roll in the hay with the rookie with a Texas drawl except he was just too young and too cocky for her. But he was persistent, and someone who is that cocky about his bedroom skills usually can back them up. Would giving up her resolve be worth it?

Garrett was new to this lifestyle. Money, women, parties, and everything he could ever ask for. He grew up poor and was living it up. He finally made it to the Big Show and after his rookie year, he was living high. Too high. No, not drugs. The lifestyle. He was arrogant, cocky, and stubborn. He knew his game was on top but now his personal life was hitting the tabloids. Baseball was his life. He wouldn’t go back to the trailer park. But what was wrong with having a little fun? And he knew he would have fun with the feisty Dahlia. He wanted her and he wasn’t going to just walk away from a challenge. But once he had a taste, he wanted more and more. To know her. To enjoy her. He might have been the playboy but she was the nomad. Would should take the risk with him to become more than sex buddies? Would the tabloids ruin everything before they could really get started?

This series just keeps getting better and better. I am not sure if there is more to come but I sure hope so! Garrett is cocky yes but he is also sweet, misunderstood, and a hot mess. I loved seeing all of his sides. The shameless flirt. And he met his match with Dahlia. She is a badass who feels a little lost but knows she will find her way. I love them both. Together, they are explosive and a little out of control, and sweet and it’s them. They made me laugh, cry, and get hot and bothered. ♥️

Quotes:

“I just met you, you’re my boss, and you’re complimenting my boobs? I think I found my new best friend.” I laugh.
She winks at me and takes on a valley girl accent. “That’s because I’m like, a cool boss, not a regular boss.”
“And a Mean Girls reference? Marry me.” I wink back at her.

“You feel like dancing, darlin’?” That deep voice is much too close to the sensitive slope of my ear. I don’t move though, and stop my body from swaying, not wanting to give him the upper hand.
“I hate country music.”
“Aw, sweetheart, that’s not what your hips were saying a moment ago.” That tone is pure sex.

His mouth is vicious, searing hot, and skilled beyond his years. He wasn’t lying when he said he could make me come so many times I’d lose my voice, because with the way his tongue is filthily commanding mine, I can feel an orgasm building. From just a kiss.

⚾️ TAGGING UP
Tagging Up is the fifth book in the Callahan Family series by Carrie Aarons. I do believe this is the last book in the series but there is potential for more so here’s hoping! Each book can be read as standalone but I recommend reading the series since they are all unique in their own ways.

Clark was there drowning his sorrows. Anna was there after losing a patient. Two single friends. A little bit too much drinking. Some pent up lust. This book starts out with a bang and I am here for it.

Clark knew it shouldn’t have happened. Anna is his best friend’s little sister. She was off-limits and he was so not a relationship guy. He never went back twice. And he has known Anna since she was only sixteen. She was too young for him even if she was twenty-three now and he was thirty. She deserves someone who could give her more than one night. She was beautiful, sweet, witty, and didn’t let anyone especially him bullshit her. She told it how it was. And now, Anna was telling him that she is a woman who knows what she wants and it’s more sex with him. Without strings. Without telling her cousin, Walker. It’s none of anyone else’s business.

Anna was tired of everyone treating her like a child. A fragile child who can’t make her own decisions. She was a nurse for f*ck’s sake. She might be the baby of the family but she wasn’t some kind of princess. She was a badass who has wanted Clark since she was seventeen years old and if sex was all he was willing to give, she will take it. In the bathroom. In bed. In a plane. Up against the wall. You get my point. But she also wants to show him that he is good enough. He deserves more. But what will happen when feelings latch on?

I have been slowly falling for Clark throughout the series and his story was so worth the wait! This man has layers. He isn’t just the team playboy and fun guy. He is so much more. And Anna, I love her too. Together, they are fire and complications. It’s one hell of a ride!

Quotes:

I will never, not until the day I die, forget the look on his face when he stepped into me and grabbed the back of my neck. It was possessive, so fucking hot, and like he knew exactly how I wanted to be kissed.

My soul must be floating somewhere up above my body, because I swear I just died. Fucking died and went to lust heaven, because holy Christ, Clark Nyle is dirty talking to me.

“You have no idea how good you can be.”

⚾️ OPENING NIGHT
It’s eight years later and Opening Day for the Callahans! I absolutely love this family and their loves and children. It was so awesome catching up with all of them. It’s fun when we get to see them in the future with each getting their own POVs. It also makes me want more! Come on, Carrie…second generation? Pretty please. If not, I will forgive you since you wrote this extra epilogue. ♥️⚾️

New Release & Reviews – Seduced, Lili Valente

June 28, 2022 | Posted in New Release, Review | By

Last night I made out with a gorgeous, funny, quirky older woman. Today I learned she’s the new executive chef at my restaurant. AKA my new boss.

Yep, that’s the hot mess I’m in at the moment.
But the chemistry between Natalie and me is even hotter.
The problem? She’s a single mom focused on helping her little girl adjust to life in the big city. Dating right now—especially a co-worker—is asking for trouble.
So, what’s my next move? Seduce the hell out of the woman, of course.

I may still technically be hanging onto my V Card, but I know how to drive a woman wild in bed.
Even more importantly, I know I’m the kind of man Nat’s looking for. I love hard, keep my promises, and I’ll put her and her daughter first.

And then I learn the real reason she’s been holding me at a distance…

Most men would be scared away. Me?
I’m even more determined to prove I can make this wounded woman’s dreams come true.

5 out of 5 stars
Seduced is the third book in the V Card Diaries series by Lili Valente. You can read each book as standalone but I recommend reading the series since they are all so much fun. I have been waiting for Cameron’s story and the wait was totally worth it.
It all started with chocolate covered crickets…
Cameron knew the woman across the table was different. She was beautiful, witty, and mysterious. And she didn’t want to be his friend. That was clear when she kissed him. It was perfect. She was perfect. They make plans for a first date. Cameron is walking on the air the next morning on his way to work then he sees her. In the kitchen of Crave as the new owner and executive chef. And her number one rule… Zero-fraternization between employees. I guess it was time to up his seduction game. Except, this is no game, he knows she is the one he has been waiting for. But, what will happen when she finds out about his V status?
Natalie wasn’t looking for romance. She was new to New York, a single mom, and the new owner of Crave. She didn’t have time for a man especially one ten years younger. He definitely couldn’t be ready for the whole package. He was a hot chef in his twenties in NY. He probably just wanted in her pants and now as her new boss, he would just walk away. Except, he doesn’t. He is a surprise she didn’t expect and that makes him trouble.
I ♥️ Cam and Natalie!! And of course Crissy, that kid is adorable. This story is not only sexy AF but sweet and funny too! It’s also full of heat, friendships, and dinosaurs. I knew Cam was a sweetheart but I absolutely love his sexy side too. Hot damn. Natalie is a badass in and out of the kitchen. She is also a kickass mom and I loved meeting her and all of her side. And, Crissy, this kid is the best. So much fun and brave. I can’t wait to see them again in Sparked!
Quotes:
“You’re cocky.”
“Only when it comes to food.”
“I think you broke my vagina, and all my clothes are still on,” I say, fumbling for the buttons behind my neck.
“Somebody help! Mommy’s being attacked by a vampire!”
5 out of 5 stars

Seduced is the third book in the V Card Diaries series by Lili Valente. I am loving this series so much! Lili is giving us such fun characters with so much heart and they are making me swoon and laugh out loud. Oh Cameron, I knew I was going to freaking love you! You might be young, but you have your life together. You know what you want to do with your life, you know how to treat a woman and you know how to be a great friend. And you are sexy and fun and smart. Natalie is a business owner, chef and mother. She wasn’t expecting to meet a young, charming man who she connected with. And then when he turns out to work for her, she can’t go there. But really, she can and she does! I love that she is older and he’s the virgin. And just because he is, doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to please her. I loved watching their love grow and how mature they are. I loved the way Cam is with Crissy, her daughter (swoon). I just loved everything about it. It made me laugh, cry, get hot and bothered and just smile. Everything I want from a romance!

Full-Court Press (formerly appeared in HOOPS Holiday)

Avery + Deck’s Story

Single dad MacKenzie Decker was a question Avery never got to ask, much less answer.

They met when she was a young reporter fueled by ambition, and the ink on Deck’s first NBA contract was barely dry. Years later, they’ve climbed so high and lost so much, but one thing hasn’t changed. The attraction that simmered between them in a locker room before is still there. With success like theirs, everything has been possible . . . except them.

But that was then.

The only question is…what about now?

Fast Break  (formerly appeared in Team Player Anthology 2)

Quinn + Ean’s Story

Quinn

I was a world-class runner once.

My dreams had wings spun from wind and speed.

Every time out of the blocks was a glorious flight.

But then I crashed and burned.

When I lost my leg, I thought it was the finish line

Little did I know, life was just beginning

Now they call me “America’s Titanium Sweetheart.”

(What can I say? It tested well. LOL)

The life I thought was over is moving so fast.

I have my own gym, a fitness app, a clothing line, and an endless trail of endorsements.

One thing there’s never time for? Love.

One thing I don’t have time for? Games.

Come real, or don’t come at all. In a field full of players, I’m looking for a real one.

Otherwise, I won’t stop.

Ean

I had hoops dreams. I wanted to be like Mike, jump like Magic and soar like Dr. J.

But a college injury grounded me. What I thought was game over, actually opened up a whole new world.

Fast forward to now. I’m coaching some of the NBA’s best.

They call me The Machine because I’m obsessed with stats and data, and my near-photographic memory means I remember every play.

I see the court clearly. But I never saw her coming. Quinn Barrow stops me in my tracks.

Pursuing my first championship, there’s been no time for love.

I’m more than willing to chase her, but will she slow down long enough to be caught?

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Full-Court Press is a sports novella by Kennedy Ryan. Kennedy is one of my favorite authors! She’s extremely talented and everything she writes sings to my soul. This is a novella, but it feels like a full length novel. It’s full of heart, lust, angst, humor and love. Decker is a professional basketball player and Avery is a sports reporter. Decker wants her the first time he meets her, but she needed to protect her career first. When they see each other years later Decker isn’t going to take no for an answer. Avery can run but she can’t hide! Avery and Decker story is sexy, fun and I loved it! Decker is one of my favorite heroes of Kennedy’s! AND…we get extras from Long Shot and Block Shot!

Fast Break is a sexy, fun novella in the Hoops world by the fabulous Kennedy Ryan. Fast Break is Quinn and Ean’s story. Quinn is Banner’s best friend and Ean is the coach of The Waves. Ean is a smart, dedicated coach. He loves his job, numbers and statistics. He’s looking for someone to share his life with and he can’t stop thinking about Quinn, a woman who’s an inspiration to all women, people and athletes. When he gets a chance to actually meet her, he can’t stop himself. He’s nervous and awkward, but he’s not giving up until she says yes. He wants more than one night with her. He wants it all. Quinn has been though so much in her life. Losing her leg, overcoming depression, learning to walk and live again. She can’t trust men. She never knows what they want from her. When Ean keeps showing up and putting himself out there, she can’t help but want more. She’s afraid, but she’s strong. She’s a fighter. And Ean is so sexy! He’s tall, broad, strong and those glasses. Yes, please! This story is fantastic. Yes, it’s a sexy romance, but it’s so much more. Quinn’s story is emotional and inspiring. I really want to get her app! Ean pursues her, but it’s not pushy. He just knows he has to have her. Their story might be short, but it packs the punch of a full length sexy romance novel. And we get to see my man, DECKER, so that was a major bonus!

5 out of 5 stars

Last on the List by Amy Daws was the perfect nanny, single-dad, age gap romance! I’ve loved Max for a long, long time and I’ve been waiting patiently for his story. He’s sexy and grumpy and he finally found his match in Cozy. She’s taking time to just be after working herself sick. She wants to do less and being a nanny is the perfect job for her. Everly instantly loves Cozy so Max hires her. He does not love her willy-nilly attitude, but since his daughter loves her he’s just going to have to deal. The more he sees and learns about Cassandra (he prefers to call her that) the more he’s attracted to her. She just ticks all his boxes with her feistiness, her generous curves and her smarts. I loved learning more about Max and what he thinks about love and his business. He’s also a boss mofo and kinky and he had me laughing out loud! Cozy is freaking hilarious and I loved how she embraced her plus-sized self. She is comfortable in her own skin and that is very refreshing. Everly stole my heart with her insight and matter-of-fact attitude. Together, the three of them were so much fun! Add in seeing the characters we love from the series and just being with this group of friends again made me so happy. I’m also very, very intrigued by Max’s brothers and I hope we are getting a spin-off series with them. Oh, please! Overall, I loved every minute of it and didn’t want it to end. I had the pleasure of listening to the audio and Teddy and Erin just killed this one! I love the way they laugh and cry and throw themselves into these characters. They brought Max and Cozy to life!

♥️ MORE OF YOU

5 out of 5 stars

More of You is the first book in A.L Jackson’s new series, Confessions of the Heart. Between this story being a second chance romance and A.L’s poetic way of writing, I knew I was going to fall in love. And I did. Extremely hard. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will make this quick.   Jace walked away from Faith ten years ago. It tore them both up inside but Jace thought it was for the best. She deserved a better life than he could give her. He always knew she was too good for him. He saw the way the rest of the town looked at him. Never her. She looked at him with love and hope. But he knew she would be better off without him so he walked away.   Ten years later and he was back. The chemistry is still there. The intensity of their past was still alive. They had to fight against it. He was there for one reason and one reason only. To do what was right. Will it break them even more or will it save them?   I absolutely loved this story! It was emotional, suspenseful, and cute. It’s full of light, darkness, and all the shadows in between. If life of adulting didn’t get in the way, I would had finished it in one day. The writing is just as beautiful as the story. A.L never fails to give me all the feels.   Quotes:   “Help?” Her tone was sharp. “That was what he said.” “Oh, I’m sure he’d gladly help get you right out of your panties.”   “The only repayment I need is that one day I might see a real smile on your face.”   “I could look at a million other women. A thousand sunsets. Every exotic beach. And you would still be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

♥️ ALL OF ME

5 out of 5 stars

All of Me is the second novel in the Confessions of the Heart series by one of my favorite authors, A.L Jackson. It can be read as a standalone but I do recommend reading More of You since it’s brilliant, sexy, and sweet. It is also where you are first introduced to Ian, Jace’s cocky brother. Well, now it’s his turn to fall to his knees.   Ian is one of the most powerful attorneys in Charleston. He did whatever he needed to do to climb the ladder. To make it all the way to the very top. To run the firm. To be in control. He was ruthless in the courtroom and more so on the outside of one. Nothing got in his way. He vowed to himself when he was seventeen that no one would hold him back or push him down. He was only loyal to very few. His brother and his family, and to his best friend Mack. Nobody else mattered. Clients were just clients. Women were just for pleasure. He knew he was selfish and arrogant. Especially, when he wanted something. And right now, it was this woman. She had legs for days and he wanted them wrapped around his waist. Only she had other plans, like running away.   Grace was in this room for only one reason. This man was not it. He was just like all the other men in the room. An arrogant prick who only wanted one thing. Well, he can want all he wants but she isn’t giving in. She didn’t get what she wanted from this night so she was gone. What she didn’t expect was that she would see Ian again and he was exactly what she needed. An attorney she somehow came to trust. One that wasn’t afraid to go toe to toe with the devil himself. Because he thought he was the devil himself.   Ian and Grace’s relationship is off-limits. He can not sleep with a client. The problem? He already did. And he wanted another taste. Something he never wanted. One taste was usually enough. He never even craved that one taste with others, it was just a means to an end. But, with her? It was everything. She was changing him. But, they had to keep it professional. Even though, the sexual tension was felt by everyone around them. This was the biggest case of his career. It could bring him to the top. He couldn’t let her get in the way.   I loved this book! So fucking hard. I can’t get into all the hows and whys without ruining the story but I will say it gave me all the feels. It has it all. Suspense. Heat. Love. Anger. Hope. Loss. Humor. I will even go as far as saying that it’s my favorite A.L book! It   Overall…read the book! You will not regret it. It’s full of everything I look for in a book.   Quotes:   “I’ll just keep enjoying the hunt.” “You goin’ huntin’, Uncle Ian? My daddy told my mama you nofin’ but a dog.”   “You make me feel like I’m standing at the edge of something brilliant. Something significant,” I confessed in a twined rasp of words.   His beauty so intense it was almost a tragedy.

♥️ PIECES OF YOU

Pieces of Us is the third book in the Confessions of the Heart series by the ever-poetic and talented, A.L Jackson. It can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the previous books because they are fantastic! I don’t want to spoil anything so I will make this fast.   Izzy fell in love with the boy next door when she was four. She didn’t even know what love fully meant but she knew she wanted to marry him. Protect him. Be his everything. At seventeen, he broke her and she ran. And now at thirty, she was back in the town she said she would never come back to. Too many memories. Good and bad. Now, she just needed to avoid those feelings she always had for him. She couldn’t go down that road again even if he was everything and more.   Mack is shocked to see her. Hit with a wave of wanting. He thought about her every day for the last thirteen years. He still knew he wasn’t good enough for her but she was just as tempting now as she was then. His best friend. His only love. He knows he hurt her badly but was this fate? Her being back. It was like he could breathe again.   I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book! It’s such a beautiful story full of all the emotions. I cried probably a dozen times. A.L’s writing is also so poetic and this one just might be my favorite of hers. I felt their connection. Their bond. I loved the characters. I was invested in them. I loved the way Mack didn’t hide his feelings. He put himself out there even if he was in danger of being shot by her daddy. And I loved Izzy’s strength.   Overall…it was epic!! I loved every minute of their story. It’s inspiring, sweet, sassy, sexy, and one emotional ride.
  1. S. Make sure to sign up for bonus scene!
Quotes:   “And how do you stop being afraid of the one thing that can destroy you?” “I don’t know. Maybe you slay it.”   “Little Bird, Little Bird, stuck in a tree.” She giggled, her heart feeling light. “Dragon, dragon, come and rescue me.”   Flames flickered beneath the bare caress. The man my fire, my cold body begging to come alive under his scorching touch.

New Release & Review – Tough Luck, Annabeth Albert

March 26, 2022 | Posted in New Release, Review | By

My best friend’s little brother needs a bodyguard. Now I’m the one in danger…

I’m a SEAL. Or rather, I was. Retired at the grand old age of thirty-eight, I’m at loose ends. My best friend wants me to join his security team. I’m not sure I’m bodyguard material, but he needs someone to protect his kid brother. How hard can spoiled brat duty be?

Somehow, I missed the part where former child star Danny Love went from dorky TV darling to all grown up and disturbingly attractive. All the gossip about his wild ways fails to mention that he’s trying hard to clean up his act. But now he’s got a stalker.

Hiding out together in a remote mountain cabin, alone, the temptation keeps building. I’m feeling things I never have before. Secrets I’ve kept even from myself bubble to the surface every time Danny looks my way with those puppy dog eyes.

I’m a SEAL. We leap into danger. So why is it so terrifying when that danger comes with the softest pair of lips I’ve ever known? At some point we’re going to have to return to Hollywood and our vastly different lives. Will Danny still want me around when he doesn’t need me for protection? Can I be brave enough to give him a reason to?

TOUGH LUCK is book one in a brand-new SEAL bodyguard series. It features an age gap, steamy first times, and all the high heat, big emotions, and found family feels readers expect from this fan-favorite military romance author. Join A-List security for this lower-angst series featuring former SEALs and the celebrity clients who win their hearts. Happy endings and no cliffhangers guaranteed!

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Tough Luck is the first book in the A-List Security series by Annabeth Albert. I’m a huge fan of Annabeth’s and I’m loving this new series! This is an age-gap, best friend’s brother romance and I loved every second of it! Cash is a retired SEAL and Danny is an ex-actor who’s being stalked and needs some help. Cash agrees to help Danny as a favor to his best friend, Duncan. He’s expecting Danny to be a spoiled diva, but he’s nothing like he thought. Danny didn’t expect a huge, burly man to show up at his house while he was doing naked yoga. But he’s glad he’s there because he gets another threat. This one scares him enough to pack a bag and find a safe place with Cash for a few days. Cash always knew there was something about him he wasn’t quite sure about. The more he gets to know Danny, he’s pretty sure he’s always liked men, but being a SEAL, he never felt safe to be who he was. Now he has the opportunity to explore his thoughts, feelings and desires. Danny is totally on board to show Cash what he’s been missing. Along the way, they share their lives and their bodies. Danny is learning more about himself and what he wants to do with his life. Cash is finally comfortable in his own skin. There’s still a dangerous stalker out there, but together they can overcome anything! I loved Danny and Cash! They are opposites in looks and lifestyle, but they just fit together. They know when to have fun and when to be serious. They also have crazy hot chemistry! I couldn’t get enough of them and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

TROPES: single dad, workplace romance, grumpy hero, age gap, forced proximity

Synopsis:

USA Today Bestselling author Adriana Locke delivers a “fresh and fun!” romance between a grumpy single dad and his beautiful, spunky employee—the one he can’t have.

Chemistry is not love.

That’s what my boss, the grumpy single dad with brilliant green eyes, says anyway.

I have my V-card. He’s ten years older than me. I work for him.

Nate Hughes has a million reasons why a relationship between us would never work. Honestly? It’s all a farce.

He can’t deny our connection. His soft smiles, brief touches, and protective behaviors come too easily. And when I need a place to stay? He can’t stop himself from offering me a room—though I’d prefer his bed. After all, there are sparks—delicious, sizzling sparks—when we’re together.

Our forced proximity brings things to a head. Our shared experiences and traumas draw us closer. Our undeniable attraction has us toeing the line between friends and lovers—whether Nate likes it or not.

He’s right—chemistry is not love. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t fall in love with him … even if he can’t love me back.

Excerpt:

#2:

“Do you want me to pay rent or help with groceries? We really didn’t go over any of that,” she says, licking her lips.

My gaze settles on her finger approaching the pudding container again. “You’re a college student with a part-time job. You don’t have any money.”

“That’s true.” She smiles smugly before lifting her eyes to mine. “I’m sure we could come up with something.”

She trails her finger around the walls of the plastic before bringing it to her lips again. With her hand poised in front of her face, she smiles at me.

Nope. Not letting that happen.

I clamp her wrist with my hand and suspend it in midair. Her eyes go wide, her breath halting in her throat as she waits for my reaction.

Her skin is warm in my palm. Her wrist is so small, so delicate, that I ease my grip so I don’t accidentally hurt her.

I’m not sure why I touched her, but it’s either because I’m sleep-deprived and it’s late or I want to teach her a lesson. Or maybe I just want to see her reaction.

I stare at her as deeply as I can. She holds her breath as she considers—hopes? fears?—what I’m going to do.

I twist her wrist and bring her hand to my face. A smirk settles on my lips as her entire body stills.

Then with the most deliberate move I’ve ever made, I bring her finger to my mouth.

My heart thunders in my chest as my self-restraint shatters into a million pieces.

I suck her finger between my lips. She gasps, her body shaking in response. I run my tongue around the pudding before biting lightly against her skin as I remove her digit from my mouth.

Every muscle in my body tightens. My blood heats to a dangerous degree. My hand trembles as I hold her hand in mine and try desperately not to tug her whole body into me.

Her chest heaves. She forces a swallow as she leans back against the counter. Her breath is loud and quick, breaking the silence of the room.

Shit,” she says, a mixture of a plea and a promise.

I just look at her and smile. “Is that what you wanted?”

She swallows again.

I release her wrist from my palm. Then I lean in until we’re only inches apart—until I’m so close that I can smell the sweetness of her breath—and grin.

“That’s the only time my mouth will get anywhere near you.” I turn toward the doorway, ignoring the protest of every cell in my body. “I’ll see you in the morning.”

Sweet is the sixth book in the Landry series by Adriana Locke. This is Nate and Paige’s story and I’ve been looking forward to it since I knew they were going to get together. Nate is Dominic’s brother and Paige is Hollis’s sister (Hollis is one of my favorite characters of Adriana’s!!) Paige works for Nate and they have always had chemistry and their flirt game is strong. Nate is running a business, working part-time for Landry security and raising his son. He doesn’t have time for flings. He wants forever. Paige is young, having fun, trying to get her college degree. She wants Nate, but she only wants temporary. They both have pasts that made them who they are and they weren’t easy to overcome. Nate already knows that once he touches Paige, it’s game over for him. Paige isn’t so sure. She’s so used to being in relationships that she knows won’t last long, but Nate is not that guy. She wants to run from her feelings and from him. Nate just has to prove to her that she can’t outrun love and show her that he will always find her and bring her back. Oh, Nate. I love you! You are grumpy and sexy and funny. Loyal, protective, fierce and such a good dad. Paige is stronger than she things for surviving her childhood. She has a loving family now and of course, Hollis, her brother. I just love him so much! Paige’s brothers are getting books so I’m hopeful that means more Hollis. 🙂

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Sweet is the sixth and I believe final book in the Landry Family series by Adriana Locke. Each book follows a different couple so you can read them as standalones but I highly recommend reading the series since it is fantastic. Even though Nate is not a Landry he is part of the family being Dominic’s brother.

Nate is a single dad to seven-year-old, Ryder. He is also a bar owner and a part-timer at Landry Security. His life is full taking care of his son and his bar. He didn’t think he was missing out on anything until she walked in eight months ago and turned his world upside down with her sass and flirt. He loves their friendship and they way they flirt, at work where things can’t cross the line. But now, with Paige needing a place to stay changes everything…

Paige’s beginnings were not easy. Her life now is a work-in-progress. Hence, her eviction. She needs a place to stay and she has always felt safe with her boss, Nate. They have a fun friendship. Does she want him? Hell yes. Does she want a forever? No, she runs away from it. Nate does want a forever kind of love so they can’t go further than their flirty banter. It would be too heartbreaking in the end for all three involved so it is what it is until it isn’t…

I ♥️ Nate Hughes! I♥️ Paige! I ♥️ Ryder! These three are amazing. Their lives have not been easy. Their childhoods were heartbreaking and I love that they found each other. I adore them. And I can’t wait for the Carmichaels! These men are hilarious form what we get a glimpse of through Paige.

Quotes:

“I think you like it when I fuck with you.” I bite my bottom lip. “Don’t you, Nate?”
His grin isn’t friendly or amused. It’s sinful.

Maddox: Your dumb-as-shit brother was doing God knows what and broke it.
Me: Dude, that’s YOUR brother. You share his DNA. Not me.
Maddox: You know what? I resent you using your adoption status to your advantage in times like these.

“Ugh. It was an accident, Dad.”
Paige stands at the edge of the mess and grins. “Yeah, Dad.”
I smirk. “Doesn’t have the same effect as Daddy.”
“I will never call you that seriously,” she says, laughing.

Synopsis:

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Stone is the second book in the Pittsburgh Titans series by Sawyer Bennett. You can read each book as standalone but I recommend reading the series in order. From past experience it’s the way to go!
Stone feels like an imposter. After losing his brother in the plane crash that took down Titans hockey team he is recruited to join them. He had his shot in the NFL years ago then a shoulder injury sent him down to the minors. He wasn’t sure if he could do this again. He wasn’t sure if they wanted him for his talent or because of his brother but he felt he needed to take the chance, right? What he didn’t expect was her. Harlow. A ballsy lawyer who won’t leave him alone about Brooks’s estate.
Harlow lost her best friend and now she has to deal with Stone. A stubborn man who won’t even return her phone calls and when he finally shows up to her office, her dog wants to attack him. She does too and not in a good way. Yet. She just wants him to sign where he needs to sign and to fulfill Brooks’s last wishes. It is definitely more complicated than she had hoped but if anything, Harlow is a badass and won’t let Brooks or even Stone down. And to make things even more complicated? She wants to climb Stone like a tree.
Stone and Harlow’s relationship is rocky but beautiful as well. Harlow knew Brooks like nobody else and Stone needs to heal the relationship they had even if he is gone. Their relationship was torn over the years and I am so happy we didn’t have to wait long for Stone’s story. I knew it was going to be an emotional one after reading Baden. I know see that this series is going to be a roller coaster of emotions and I am here for it.
Quotes:
“There is nothing normal about what I feel for you.”
“God, if I’m dreaming… nobody better fucking wake me up.”
5 out of 5 stars

Stone is the second book in the Pittsburgh Titans series by Sawyer Bennett. I’m still recovering from Baden, but I’m loving this series! It’s emotional, sexy and even a little fun. Stone lost his brother, Brooks, in the plane crash that killed most of the team. Now he has an opportunity to come up from the minors and take a starting position with the Titans. He’s angry, upset and misses his brother, but he says yes. Now he’s in his brother’s city, playing for his brother’s team and getting messages from his brother’s lawyer, Harlow. But she’s not just his lawyer, she was his friend. Stone realizes she’s gotten under his skin and she may be the key to learning more about his brother. The more time he spends with her, the more he likes her. The more he learns about his brother, the more he learns about himself. All of a sudden he’s playing the best hockey of his life, falling for the sexy redhead and trying to leave his past behind him. But is that even possible? Can Stone forget and move on? Oh man! This story! It was an emotional roller coaster and I loved every minute of it! Stone is heartbroken, but hopeful. Harlow can’t help but feel for her friend’s brother. Getting to know each other helped them both heal. They had great chemistry and we keep learning more from the rest of the team. Looking forward to more books in the series!

Audio: I had the pleasure of listening to Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson as Stone and Harlow. I love Jason and Ava together and they were really fantastic, as always.

Synopsis

The silver-fox and the faux bodyguard…

Sebastian

Who’s the true hero behind the Hollywood heartthrob, crime-fighting, adventure-seeking international man of mystery? Me. I’m the real Baxter.

Well, I wear the suit and let the action play out onscreen. You want to know the secret of my success? Sell the story you want to tell. Even if you have to bend the truth a little.

Okay…a lot.

Trust me, no one will notice. Except Trent, who seems to notice everything. And for some reason, I like that. I like him. I’m just not sure what to do about it.

Trent

Look, I’m not exactly killing it. I’m a typical struggling actor-slash-waiter, hoping for a break. And boom…in walks Sebastian Rourke. He’s a cutthroat, wickedly charming silver fox, a Hollywood legend in the making. No joke. You’ve got to sell a piece of your soul to get in this man’s orbit. Or fake a British accent, then take a job playing bodyguard to fool the press. As one does.

I know I should take advantage of the very strange situation I find myself in, but I’m not sure I’m cut out for it. However, I’m willing to take a chance, ’cause I want the real Seb.

Even though it might cost me everything.

The Real Baxter is a MM age-gap, bisexual romance featuring the man who has everything and the actor who’s willing to show him what’s real.

Excerpt

“Home sweet home, eh?”

Seb gathered his suit coat and his takeout bag with a strained smile. “Something like that.”

“Hey, for what it’s worth, I didn’t mean to offend you earlier. Under different circumstances, I might go for a guy like you.”

His snort-laugh oozed sarcasm. “Wow, I’m flattered.”

I shrugged, aware that I should probably stop talking. Of course, I couldn’t do it. “You’re real. I get that. It’s just that…observationally speaking, real you and real me don’t mix. We got nothin’ in common.”

Seb unfastened his seat belt and whirled to face me. I couldn’t read him in the shadows. It would have been nice to know if he was amused or irked…or both. “Okay, first of all, ‘observationally speaking’ is a terrible way to begin any sentence and second—and most important, you know nothing about ‘real me.’ ”

I held my hands up in surrender. “You’re right. I had no idea you were the rich, old dude in the ‘Who’s your type?’ scenario.”

“I never said I was, but now that you think I am…you suddenly want to date me, eh?”

“Date you?” I scratched my temple as if mulling over the idea. “No way. But I’d totally do you.”

Seb froze with his hand on the door lever, threw his head back, and guffawed.

He literally had the best laugh I’d ever heard—contagious, hearty, and kind of wicked. It bounced merrily off the old car’s interior, making everything feel shiny and new. Including me. I couldn’t help smiling.

I tried to think of something clever and somewhat humorous to keep his attention for another minute or two, but I got sidetracked, staring at his stubbled jaw, full lips, and the deep crinkles at the corners of his eyes. For a half a beat, I wished he were someone else—less in demand, less wealthy, less connected.

Crazy, I know. This was why I didn’t go for sophisticated types. I didn’t stand a chance with a guy like Seb.

And on that dose of reality…I inclined my head with a meaningful grunt as he composed himself.

“You have no idea how tempting that sounds. Thanks for the ride. Thanks for tonight. It was…exactly what I needed.”

“Happy to be of service.”

He pulled at the handle—once, twice… “The door is stuck.”

“It does that sometimes. You just have to wiggle the handle.”

Seb tried again. “No, it’s definitely stuck.”

I unfastened my seat belt and leaned across him. Bad move. I breathed in the scent of his cologne and felt scorched by his body heat.

And of course, the door didn’t budge. I turned off the engine and held a finger up, signaling a bright idea on the horizon.

“Hang on. We’ll do this the old-fashioned way.” I hopped out of the car and used my key to manually unlock the passenger side door with a flourish. “Ta-da!”

He unfolded his long legs, somehow managing to look like an A-list celebrity sliding from the back seat of a limo at a red-carpet event. He slung his suit coat over the crook of his arm, grabbed his to-go bag, and stepped aside.

“Thank you.”

“I’m the one who should be thanking you. So, thanks for taking me to pick up my wheels, thanks for drinks and the burger, and thanks for not laughing at my impromptu Baxter audition.”

Seb grinned. “You’re welcome. It was…fun.”

I nodded, shoving my hands into my pockets awkwardly before angling my head toward the house. “You really rattle around in that place by yourself?”

“Yeah. My kids are here a lot. I have Oliver tomorrow and…” He squinted as if looking for something or someone in the dark. “I have friends.”

“You do?” I teased.

He made a funny face. “One or two. I think.”

We smiled as if sharing a joke. But the punchline was a silent acknowledgment of temporary camaraderie. We weren’t friends or coworkers. He probably wouldn’t remember my name next week.

However, right this very moment, we had a connection. Maybe it was akin to making friends with your seatmate on a long flight, but it was something.

I held on to it fiercely, marking the ticking seconds to the soundtrack of chirping crickets and the rustle of leaves in the late summer evening breeze. I studied the sharp planes of his cheekbones, softened by the laugh lines at the corners of his eyes. I noted the hint of gray in his close-shaven beard when he licked his bottom lip and—

Oh, fuck.

Yeah, time to go.

“I should, uh…” I hiked my thumb behind me, then rested my hand on the open door. I was about to close it when I spotted his milkshake. “Do you want your shake?”

“Um…” Seb switched the to-go bag to his left hand and stepped toward me. “I think it’s gone.”

I pulled it from the cupholder and turned to find him closer than expected. As in…we stood grungy boot to Italian loafer.

I shook the cup. “Might be a little something in there.”

“No, I’m done. I can throw it away in the house. I don’t want to leave trash in your car.”

I scoffed. “Dude, have you seen my car?”

Seb chuckled…and I joined in.

When his laughter faded, we were back to staring at each other. Only now, it wasn’t awkward. It was…something completely different. A little unsteady and unsure, but somehow promising.

I didn’t move. I didn’t sidle past him with an absent good-bye or a bro high five. I didn’t try to draw him into more conversation. I didn’t want to break the spell…as if I had any power over what was happening.

And something was definitely happening. Maybe because it was so unexpected, it took me a few extra seconds to define it.

Lust. Hunger. Need.

He wanted me.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Real Baxter is the first book in The Baxter Chronicles by Lane Hayes. It’s a sexy age-gap, fake romance story and I loved it! I’ve loved Sebastian since I met him in Starting From Zero. There was something about him that screamed, sexy, successful man with an emotional past. He didn’t get where he is by being nice and soft. But as soon as he meets Trent, who fakes a not so great English accent to get him to notice him, he knows his life is going to change. He’s not sure what’s going to happen, but he knows he wants Trent. Again and again. Trent’s an actor still trying to get his big break. He’s not going to lose the chance to meet The Sebastian Rourke. It may not go as planned, but he gets an offer he can’t refuse. Fake bodyguard. How hard can it be. Turns out the hard part is staying away from the older, sexy silver fox. Fake bodyguard turns into fake boyfriend and then it’s all real. But can it work between the hopeful actor from Philly and the Hollywood studio owner? I loved Trent and Seb! Trent is so funny, sexy and real with his accent and his parents (Italian mom for the win!). He’s insightful, intelligent and just wants to do something meaningful. Seb is running his studio, being a dad and doesn’t know what to do with his growing feelings for Trent. I thought they were perfect for each other. Opposites who had more in common than they thought. I love all the secondary characters and seeing Charlie, Gray, Justin and the rest of the crew again! Looking forward to more in the series.
