Title: The Crush
Author: Penelope Ward
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 22, 2021

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone, second-chance story of forbidden love…

It’s natural to want the one you can’t have. And for as long as I could remember, I’d secretly wanted my brother’s best friend, Jace.
He was six years older and always treated me like the sister he never had.
Fast forward a decade.
We were all in our twenties now. Jace had moved in with my brother, Nathan, and me to help us make ends meet after our parents died.
It was just the three of us—an odd family dynamic.
Living under our roof, Jace was as bossy and protective as ever.
But he certainly didn’t look at me like a sister anymore. That was what made things so complicated.
I was pretty much hot and bothered twenty-four-seven.
And he was torn.
The signs were subtle, at first. Like on movie night, I’d casually rest my leg against his, and he wouldn’t exactly shift away.
Still, I assumed he would never…go there.
Nathan would kill us.
The knowledge of that wasn’t enough to stop the inevitable, though.
Eventually our slow burn exploded.
But more than the physical attraction, we’d developed a strong connection.
We just couldn’t get caught, right?
That sounded simple.
Until it wasn’t.
This is a story of forbidden love, broken trust, and an unexpected second chance.

The Crush is Penelope Ward’s newest standalone novel. I look forward to this author’s books every time she announces her next one. I know I will get lost in the stories she tells. If you follow my reviews, you know I get excited but I don’t read the synopsis! It just gives me that extra hit of excitement.
Farrah didn’t think she would ever see him again. Not since the night he left three years ago. The night he broke her heart. And here he was with a shocked face as much hers. He ran three years ago and now it was her turn…
Her crush started the moment she saw him. She was six. He was twelve. It was a cute childhood turned teen crush. Then when she was twenty-one, he was back and living with her and his best friend, her brother. She was not a little girl anymore. She didn’t want him to look at her like a little sister anymore. She was a woman who knew who she wanted. It was forbidden. It was exciting. It was heartbreaking.
He didn’t want to want her. She was off-limits. He told himself he was protecting her. That’s why he watched it. He knew he wasn’t good enough for her. She deserved a man who couldn’t commit. He knew he had to leave and now he was back. Can they get their second-chance? Will her brother forgive them?
Omg!! God, I love second chance romances with a forbidden twist. They just work me up. This story was more than that. It wasn’t just about wanting someone. The emotional ride is there. I felt their pain, their connection, their lust. I was hooked.
“You’re gonna be the end of me,” I whispered, meaning that with all of my soul.
“I’m going to go to hell for this.”
“I’ll be right there with you.”
“How was your shower?” she asked.
“I bet.”
“You were there in spirit.” I smiled.

The Crush is Penelope Ward’s newest brother’s best friend, forbidden romance. Farrah has had a crush on Jace, her brother’s best friend since she was a girl. Now she’s twenty-one and he’s twenty-seven and they are roommates, also with her brother, Nathan. Farrah hides her feelings well until Jace starts to notice subtle things. Now he can’t stop looking at her and wanting to touch her. But he can’t do that. His best friend will never forgive him. Jace and Farrah feel so comfortable with each other. They have a past that bonds them and it’s freeing to just be who you are with someone. They can’t control their attraction anymore and they act on it. But what happens with Nathan finds out? Is Jace strong enough to fight for love and maybe lose his best friend? Wow! This book is very emotional and there are a lot of things going on. Trust, loss, pain, anger, lust, forgiveness. I enjoyed their journey, but I didn’t connect with them as much as some of Penelope’s other characters. I did however, love everything they went through and was crazy happy at the end!
