Land an amazing job with Boston’s professional hockey franchise? Check.
Fall stupidly in love with hockey’s favorite bad boy? Ugh.
After wasting years of my life with the wrong person, I told myself all I wanted was a little no-strings fun. Enter Alex Braun—a wealthy, handsome, notorious playboy who’s equal parts charming and dangerous as hell to my wounded heart.
After enduring a very public breakup of his own, the sexy player doesn’t want to be anyone’s forever. Too bad he barreled his way into my heart, instead of just my bed.
But this professional athlete knows a thing or two about competing, and he won’t let go so easily.
The Rival is the second book in the Looking to Score series by Kendall Ryan. Each book can be read as standalone but I recommend reading the series since it’s so awesome. If you read The Rebel then you have met Alex Braun, Eden’s ex and newly appointed bad boy in the NHL after their breakup. And Aspen, Eden’s friend and assistant.
One summer. One cabin. Two broken hearts ready to heal. One red-hot kiss after an unexpected night. Aspen has been around the hockey team since she took her job as the owner’s assistant. Alex never really surprises her anymore until he showed up and listened. He was the playboy over his first season with the team but it was time to get his act together. Which meant he had to stay out of the gossip papers. No women. No drinking. No fights. So, spending the summer at a cabin six hours away in Canada was the best solution. It would give him time to regroup which was exactly one of the reasons why Aspen was going as well.
It wasn’t supposed to be about being shacked up with a beautiful woman who amazed him at every turn. Aspen didn’t expect him. She was warned but she saw Alex differently. He was sweet, swoony, flirty, and best of all…a damn good cook. She felt safe and comfortable around him. And he felt the same. They could be themselves. So, what not have a summer fling? They were both single, mature, and attracted to each other. But, what will happen when the off-season ends and they have to go back to reality?
I loved these two!! Alex wasn’t my fave in The Rebel but I didn’t hate him. I do love me some bad boy. But, really, I fell for him hard in this book. I also loved Aspen, she is sweet, a book lover, and knows to stay out of the kitchen. Ha. They both went in without really knowing the other and came out knowing every inch…
Quotes:
There’s something about this sexy lumberjack look that has all my attention. Is lumberjack porn a thing? If not, it is now, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
“You don’t want anyone knowing beneath the tough hockey persona that you’re actually a nice guy?”
I grin at her. “Hell no. That would totally ruin my reputation for being a dick.”
She chuckles as we load the bags into the car. “Well, I’m on to you.”
“You suck, Braun.”
“Believe me, I know.” I chuckle darkly.
