“Admit it. Admit that you wanted that kiss as much as I did.”

I wish someone would have warned me about my best friend Deacon Cross when we were nine.

Because nearly sixteen years later, the only man I’ve forbidden myself to cross that line with still doesn’t understand my rules of friendship.

Best friends aren’t supposed to kiss.

They’re not supposed to dream of having insanely hot sex while working together, either. And they’re definitely not supposed to keep secrets.

And now I wish I had warned myself about this two days ago. Right before Deacon kissed me for the second time. And all of the rules changed…

Sandra's Review

The Kiss is the fourth book in the Manhattan Nights series by Natalie Wrye. You can read each book as standalone but I highly recommend reading the series if you want the ins and outs of the Manhattan Nights characters. They are intertwined with family and friends ties. If you have read the series then you have met Deacon and Kayla. Two childhood best friends who need to get their shit together. Lol
Two best friends and one kiss that changed their path. Six months ago, they shared one epic kiss that would had been more if they were not interrupted by a mysterious redhead. Since then it has been radio silence. Living in two different states made it easier to avoid the situation but now, they are both in New York. And when fate steps in, it will take their all not to fall back in each other’s arms. Best friends don’t kiss. It’s a rule. And Kayla never breaks the rules especially when it ones to Deacon. They made a rule book at the age of nine for a reason.
Deacon needs Kayla’s expertise in PR to keep his newly-inherited bar open. In the last six months there has been instances after instances to try to break him. To ruin the bar’s reputation along with his own. He could give a shit about himself but he has employees, customers, and family to protect. He needs this bar to succeed. And Kayla is the only one he trusts even if she doesn’t want to be in the same room at the moment.
Kayla needs more clients to prove herself to her new boss. She didn’t want to be within kissing distance to Deacon at the moment but she is a professional and her best friend needed her help. They just need to set some rules and everything will be fine, right?
Fuck no. It wouldn’t be a suspense romance if they followed the rules! Natalie gets me every time! I think I got it all figured out then she throws in a twist I didn’t see coming. I love that. I enjoyed Deacon and Kayla’s story. Their pasts. Their present. They have a complicated friendship. A mix of want, need, love, and loss. Will they get their shit together and finally see what has been in front of the. The whole time?
Overall…it was fantastic! The characters are both trying to find their ways. Kayla without her father’s money. Deacon without thinking of himself. I enjoyed watching their journey through the years.
“I’m pretty sure this nap I’m preparing to take is the social event of the season…”
“Don’t you mean ‘carrot on a string’?”
“No, I mean ‘cock’. You’ve been on a dick diet for way too long.”
I’d rather be called a thousand “Dickheads” by her than a million sweet nothings by any other woman.
5 out of 5 stars

The Kiss is the fourth book in the Manhattan Nights series by the talented Natalie Wrye. I’m a big fan of Natalie’s writing, characters and plot twists. I don’t read a lot of romantic suspense, but Natalie is my go-go-author for this genre. I never know what’s going to happen and I always yell, “What?!” at least a few times while reading. If you’ve been reading this series, you already know Kayla and Deacon. They were best friends when they were younger but time and circumstances caused them to drift apart. They had friendship rules. No kissing was at the top of the list until six month ago when they just couldn’t help themselves. They haven’t seen or spoken to each other, but now that Kayla was in NY hiding won’t be easy. Especially when she shows up at his bar. Looking gorgeous. Deacon has a lot of regrets in his life. Kissing Kayla is not one of them. They can’t seem to say what they mean. Mean what they say or get out of their own way! It’s hot, sexy, frustrating and intense. What will it take for Deacon and Kayla to finally admit they are more than friends? Always have been? I loved this story! Deacon was everything I wanted him to be and more. Kayla is stronger than she thinks! Overall, I laughed, teared up, got mad, smiled, had to fan myself. Looking forward to more from some of my favorite secondary characters!

He tastes of broken promises—all the ones I’d ever made to myself. The embodiment of dark daydreams, the man in front of me is everything I want and nothing I need, and yet I crave him all the same.
