I Could Never is Penelope Ward’s newest romance. This is an enemies-to-lovers slow burn, but freaking hysterical and full of heart and hope. The subject matter is sad, but done so well that you feel for them while also rooting for them to make a move. They both lost someone important to them, Carly’s fiancé and Josh’s best friend and they are the only one who knows what the other is going through. But the longer they are together, the more they care about each other. I laughed out loud so much and most of the book is foreplay and I loved it! Penelope knows how to entertain us with her complex characters and heartwarming situations.
I Could Never is the newest standalone by Penelope Ward. If you follow my reviews then you know I love going in without the read the synopsis. Once I figured out it was a forbidden, enemies-to-lovers story, I was extra excited.
Carly lost the love of her life two years ago and his father just recently passed away. After getting her life in order in California she hit the road to a small-town in New Hampshire to take care of Brad’s adult brother with special needs. She felt in her heart it was where she needed to be. At least until a home was available to fit Scottie’s needs. She didn’t know what to expect but she definitely didn’t expect him to show up…
Josh. Brad’s best friend. The last person she wanted to be stuck in the house with. He was a bad influence while Brad was alive so she didn’t trust him to take care of Scottie on his own like he insisted. Apparently, they had the same idea and neither of them were leaving. They hated each other but they loved Brad and Scottie so they had to make it work. It was only going to be a few weeks, a few months, tops. But like I said, the unexpected happens…
An attraction. One neither one of them wants. They think it’s wrong. A betrayal to Brad. It’s not something they take lightly but damn does it make the book amazing. A slow burn. The flirt. The innuendos. The sexual tension is explosive. I absolutely loved it. Its heartfelt, funny, sexy, and emotional.
