Title: The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister
Authors: Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 2, 2023
From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward comes a new standalone romance.
Rule number one for dating your best friend’s sister: Don’t.
Just don’t do it.
Especially when your best friend is dead and the last thing he made you promise him was that you’d keep an eye on his little sister, but not too good of an eye.
As a musician whose longest committed relationship was six weeks, I, Holden Catalano, was the last guy on Earth who should’ve been messing around with Laney Ellison.
The super smart girl whom I affectionately dubbed Lala since childhood was always off limits.
Though that didn’t stop me from thinking about her over the years, especially those times when the two of us would sneak out onto the roof and talk for hours after my buddy fell asleep. It was innocent, but I’d always held a torch for her.
After Ryan passed away, I vowed to always protect Lala. That included protecting her—from me.
Now all grown up and a scientist, Lala needed a place to stay when she accepted a temporary research position in New York. I thought I did the right thing by offering her an apartment in the building I co-owned with my three friends.
Except having her close by reignited all of those old feelings.
And things started to get complicated.
Especially since she was engaged.
And especially since, lately, I’d noticed something more in her eyes. Desire.
Lala didn’t exactly look at me like the platonic brother figure I was trying so desperately to be, even though I wanted her more than I’d ever wanted anything.
Yet, I was being good—on my very best behavior.
But you know what they say…all good things must come to an end, right?
The Rules of Dating my Best Friend’s Sister is the second book in the The Laws of Opposites Attract series by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Each book can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading The Rules of Dating since it’s damn amazing!
It all started with a letter. A letter written years ago. It was fate that the girl Holden crushed on since forever needed a place to stay and he had just the place. Next door. The issue? There were a few but the biggest…she was one of his best friend’s sister and the other… she was engaged. Her brother passed years ago but that didn’t matter, she did and his promise to watch out for her. Even if it’s from himself. He knew he wasn’t right for her. She was smart, beautiful, sweet, and wanted it all. Marriage and kids. He on the other hand was in a band that hadn’t taken off yet and wasn’t looking to settle down anytime soon or ever…
Lala thought she knew what she wanted. She thought she was happy but when she saw Holden, she knew something was missing. The feeling of feeling alive. She tried to forgot the way he had always made her feel. She wanted him when she was thirteen and she wanted him now. Their relationship was complicated that’s for sure. She didn’t want to hurt anyone but she had to make a choice. To be with a man who could give her a stable life or take a chance with a man she has a history with who could break her heart.
Wow! This series. It makes my heart rate go a mile a minute with each page. Between the twists, emotions, and sexiness… I am dead. And believe me, this book in fire. I absolutely loved it. Of course there were times I wanted to throat punch someone but at the same time I loved them. Hey, sometimes you have a complicated relationships with fictional characters, right? Haha. With that being said, I can’t wait for The Rules of Dating my One-Night Stand.
The Rules of Dating My Best Friend’s Sister is the second book in The Law of Opposites Attract series by the fabulous writing duo of Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. I’ve been hoping we’d get more stories from this group of friends and I’m so glad Holden was next! He’s the sexy, handsome drummer with a heart of gold. Yeah, he was a playboy, but he just never met the right woman. Well, that’s not entirely accurate. He met her years ago and had a major crush. She just happens to be Ryan’s sister! His best friend who passed away. He never thought he’d have the opportunity to act on his feelings, but now she’s living next door to him and the more he sees her the more he likes her. Yes, he wants her in his bed, but he just wants to be with her. Talk to her. Laugh with her. Like they used to do when they were younger. But she’s engaged, so friends it is. Well mostly. Holden can’t exactly hide his feelings or his intentions but he won’t cross that line. He might step over it and then quickly step back, but ultimately it’s Lala’s choice to make. I enjoyed a lot about this book. Mainly, Holden. I found him genuine and caring and I connected with him and his indecision to pour his heart out but afraid because he wasn’t sure what Lala wanted. He felt like she just wanted the physical when he wanted it all. I didn’t connect with her at all. She was just meh for me and I’m not sure if it was that line into the cheating or just the miscommunication that bothered me. I also didn’t love the lack of support from his best friends. Yeah, we know he’s not had relationships and loves women, but I thought they were pretty harsh and not understanding at all. I’m glad I read it, I really wanted his story, and in the end I was happy with the way it all played out. I loved seeing Billie and Colby again too!
