SOMETIMES YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN…
After an overseas mission goes wrong, Army Special Forces officer Jacob Kincaid knows where he must go to make things right: back home to the tiny town of Cedar Ridge, Colorado. All he needs to scrub away his painful past is fresh mountain air, a lakeside cabin, and quiet solitude. But what he discovers is a gorgeous woman living on a boat at his dock.
Sophie Marren has nowhere else to go. She’s broke, intermittently seasick, and fighting a serious attraction to the brooding, dishy, I’m-too-sexy-for-myself guy who’s now claiming her dock. Something about Jacob’s dark intensity makes her want to tease—and tempt—him beyond measure. Neither one wants to give any ground . . . until they realize the only true home they have is with each other.
I almost forgot how much I love Jill and her books. When she has a new release, I get excited and often read her books in one sitting. They just make me happy. She is the Queen of writing humor, angst, family, friendship, love and sex all together! It just works. Every time. I’ve been waiting for Jacob’s book since the beginning of the series. There was just something about his tortured soul who left and never came back. I knew he would, eventually. The Kinkaid’s miss their brother and he misses them. He comes home to Cedar Ridge and before he has a chance to see any of his family he meets Sophie. A red-headed firecracker who’s living on a boat illegally parked in front of his cabin. She’s fresh off a divorce and took the only thing her ex loved, his stupid boat. She hates the boat. She gets sea-sick. But, she’s determined to power through it. Jacob is instantly attracted to Sophie, but he’s a little rusty in the women department. One night they bond over an expensive bottle of scotch and they agree to act on their attraction. Neither one of them is looking for love, but they recognize things in each other. Loss, pain, disappointment. Sophie wants to help Jacob fix his issues with his family and Jacob wants to help her succeed. Can they realize they work better together than apart? Will Jacob finally stop running? I loved this story! Jacob is sexy, funny and smart and Sophie is beautiful, hilarious and driven. I love the interaction between Jacob and his siblings. I even cried a few times!
“You had a typo,” he said. “You left out the ‘e’ and ‘n’ in client.”
“Oh my God!” she cried. “I didn’t”
“Come on, make my day and say it,” he teased.
“I’d love to,” he said. “Right on your client, minus the ‘e’ and ‘n’.”
“I can’t think in your presence.”
“Because looking at you is like…walking down the chips and cookie aisle at the grocery store. I can’t resist you, and then I’ll forget why you’re bad for me.”

He knows how to score, on and off the ice
Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she’s going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.
It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over
Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.
Dean is so hot. I. Can’t. Stand. It. I mean, seriously. Yes, he’s obnoxious and conceited and a major player. But he’s hilarious and sweet and confident and just all around yummy. Allie breaks up with her boyfriend and she wants to hide out. She ends up alone with Dean and decides a one night stand with him is what she needs. At the time. But, Dean wants a repeat and he wants it badly. He starts texting her and finally wears her down, he’s going to prove to her that she’s not done with him. Allie wants to keep it secret. She’s not sure what she is doing, but she knows she can’t look at his face, hair, abs and his everything and not want him. So she goes for it. And goes for it. She’s feisty, sassy and isn’t afraid to ask for what she wants. Dean has never met anyone like her and he’s determined to keep her. Can he convince her that he’s done with his player ways? Will Allie be able to trust that he’ll be there for her? Man, I could not get enough of Dean. He made me laugh, swoon, get hot and bothered and then laugh some more. There’s more to him than he shows the world and I loved discovering all his layers. Their chemistry is off the charts! I love Elle’s writing. She throws all the feels at you and has you laughing and crying at the same time. I can’t wait for more!
“Ugh. You even have perfect nipples.”
“Do you wanna touch ’em?”
“Ew. Never. I’m just commenting that they’re frickin’ perfect. Like, totally proportioned to your chest.”
“Yeah. I am perfect. I need to remind myself of that more often.”
His black pants hug his taught buttocks like a glove, which makes me wonder, are cargo pants usually that tight? I didn’t think they were. Maybe Dean has a tailor on retainer who makes him special cargo pants that show off his ass? That seems like something he would do, vain bastard that he is.
Dean is already insanely attractive to begin with, but when he’s turned on? He’s absolutely spectacular.
The Score is the third book in the Off-Campus Series but it’s only the second book I have read so I can say it can be read as a complete standalone. I did however meet Dean in The Mistake and I was so excited that he was getting his own book. Something about a confident Manwhore gets me going…especially when he meets his match.
Allie has once again broken up with her boyfriend Sean and is determined to keep it that way. She needs to move on and right now, the only way to do that is to run. To avoid him altogether and the only person that is available to help is the one man that she can’t count on. Dean. The cocky, sex fiend hockey player that will sleep with anything in a 100 mile radius. Oh, he has tried to flirt his way into Allie’s bed before and she knows the stakes about being in the same room with him now but she has no other choice. And when tequila is added to the mix, things get blurred…
Allie doesn’t do casual. She does relationships. She can’t believe she slept with Dean and wants to do it again. And what is even more unbelievable is that Dean does too. he can’t stop thinking about her. She was a wildcat which shocked the hell out of him. And the bigger shock, she tells him it won’t happen again. But, Dean won’t give up and when Allie finally decides to live “The Life of Dean,” everything changes.
Dean and Allie find it exciting to keep their relationship a secret. It makes it more exciting and their chemistry is off the charts hot. Over the weeks they get to know each other but can she depend on Dean when things get tough and life gets real? Or will he be the Dean everyone else sees and not the Dean Allie truly believes he is?
I loved this story! Dean is the perfect blend of cocky and confident. He knows when to turn it on and off. Most of the time. And I knew from the start I would want to be Allie’s friend. She is a hot mess at first but still funny as hell. Together, their chemistry and flirty banter is the best! There are other parts to them that I love as well but don’t want to spoil too much…enjoy!
Overall…I laughed, got hot and bothered and cried. I loved everything about this book and can’t wait for the next one!
“Sure you are. Seriously, just find yourself a rebound.” Dean whips up his arm. “I volunteer as tribute.”
“I’d rather be watching you.” He waggles his eyebrows. “You know, when you’re shouting my name while I make you come.”
“Whatever you say, Mrs. Bond.”
