Title – Target: A Circle of Justice Novel
Author – LP Dover
Genre – Romantic Suspense Standalone
Release Date – April 4, 2017
Cover Designed By – Mae I Design and Photography

An assassin . . . that’s what I am.

I’m Wade Chandler by day and a killer at night. I get the job done no matter the cost. Not only do I hunt people for the FBI, but I’m also the owner of Chandler Enterprises, one of the top companies in the southeast.

When Brina Carmichael – daughter of the former president – wants my business advice, it’s hard to resist her long legs and seductive smile. One thing leads to another and now I’m in too deep.

I can’t let her know what I am, but I’ve never wanted a woman the way I want her.

However, harboring secrets comes at a price and I have a feeling she’s keeping some of her own. Especially, when my next mission leads me straight to her. Turns out she’s not who I thought she was.

4 Stars
Target is the second book in the Circle of Justice series but it can be read as a standalone. If you did read Trigger than you would have met Wade Chandler. I liked him in Trigger so I was happy that he was getting his own book. He lives a double life and that is always interesting…
Wade Chandler is a trained assassin and also the owner of one of the largest investment companies in the country. The only people that know about his double life are in the Circle of Justice. This makes it hard to let anyone in. It’s too difficult to lie to someone day in and day out about who he truly is. A killer. A man with a list of targets. But when the President of the United States becomes a target to someone on the other side he has to mix business with pleasure. He knew Brina Carmichael when they were kids. She is a former first daughter and now her brother is the President. They are not kids anymore. He wants her. And when she needs his assistance with her business, he can not say no. She is not only gorgeous but she is business smart. It’s a lethal combination for him. But when she discovers her family is in danger, can he protect what he really is from the woman that is breaking down the walls around his heart?
I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll leave it at that for the story. But I will talk about the characters. I liked Brina Carmichael because she is more than a socialite former first daughter. She is a hard-working business owner. Sister. Aunt. Daughter. Friend. And can take care of herself. I knew I was going to like Wade after meeting him in Trigger. He is a serious business man but he is also funny and sexy. He also shows his tender side with Brina. It is an all around badass with heart. Together, they are sexy, complicated, and fun. But I only gave the book four stars because even though I saw a connection with these two I didn’t feel it deep enough. I wanted more.
Overall…I really enjoyed the book. It was a great addition to the series. The characters are likable and lickable. It has suspense, sexy times, and laughs. I am looking forward to the next book.
Quotes:
“I do have an agenda, sunshine. And hopefully, one of these days, you’ll figure it out.”
“You’ll have to catch me first.”
“I’ll give you more,” he growled, sliding down my body. “But first,” he gently turned me around, “I want to explore.”

Standing at the receptionist’s desk, I waited to hear the verdict. Would Wade see me or not? When I heard his answer, I breathed a sigh of relief. I didn’t want my stupidity to ruin my shop’s chances at success.
The receptionist smiled up at me. “You can go back now, Ms. Carmichael. His office is the last one on the right.”
“Thank you,” I replied with a smile of my own.
Pulse pounding in my ears, I walked down the hall to Wade’s office. I had a folder of my designs tucked under my arm. Hopefully, it’d be enough to persuade him. Taking a deep breath, I knocked on his door.
“Come in,” he called out, his voice making me shiver.
I hated how this man made me feel like that. It’d been over a week and I could still feel the way he touched every square inch of my body. I wasn’t a needy woman, but he made me want more. This is business, nothing more.
Head held high, I opened the door. Wade was at his desk, leaning back in his chair, all cool and confident, dressed in his expensive suit with his brown hair perfectly coifed. Definitely not a bundle of nerves, like I was. “Mr. Chandler, it’s good to see you again.”
His brows lifted. “Likewise. Although I’d probably believe it more if you hadn’t run out on me the last time.”
And there it was.
Biting my lip, I shut the door. I couldn’t tell if he was angry, or didn’t care. “Thought I’d save you the trouble,” I confessed. “We both had a little too much to drink that night. And let’s face it, it was either going to be me or you. And I prefer not to be the one left behind.”
“Neither do I,” he said in all seriousness. “So, what brings you here?”

Blog Tour, Review & *Giveaway* – All the Frogs in Manhattan, Carrie Aarons

March 9, 2017 By

Title: All the Frogs in Manhattan
Author: Carrie Aarons
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: March 5, 2017
Cover Design: Okay Creations, Inc

You know how Cinderella had the whole glass slipper, pumpkin carriage, fairy godmother thing?

Yeah…with foot-destroying stilettos, Uber, and my Twitter horoscope, my life is far from a happily ever after.

In fact, instead of Prince Charming, I end up dating every slimy, scaly, brainless frog in the kingdom of Manhattan. And by frog, I mean all of the stereotypical bad guys that Mom and Lifetime movies warned you about.

The meathead player.
The mommy’s boy.
The namedropper.
The cheapskate.

If they suck at relationships, I’ve probably kissed those cold, clammy lips in the hopes of finding love. Until one day, when one man with commitment issues offers to help me find the Romeo to my Juliet.

But what happens when the frog who was never supposed to turn into a prince kisses you at midnight? Ok fine, he propositioned me for some afternoon delight after brunch, but not everything can be straight out of a fairytale.

4 Stars
All the Frogs in Manhattan is a standalone novel. I have read a few of Carrie books and they are always a fun ride. This one wasn’t any different but it was a lighter and more flirty read. Gemma was looking for her prince on an island where she only attracted the frogs…
Gemma was a twenty-five year old independent woman working for a female lifestyle magazine. She had great friends, a decent apartment, and a job that was getting her closer to her dream job. But she was missing something. She wanted the fairytale. But all she was getting was one-date douchebags. She was getting frustrated especially seeing her friends getting hit with the love-bug one by one. Then she met him. Well…she fell into him. He saved her from the streets of Manhattan after yet another failed date. He was cute and that was it. She forgot about him until she saw him again a few days later. Then for some reason they agreed to become friends with benefits before they were even friends. He made her feel comfortable. She made him feel good. They were two consenting adults that wanted sex. That was all. She would still look for her prince while he got what he wanted. What could go wrong?
Everything. Ok. I am being dramatic but I can’t say anymore than that. I will say that I liked the story. It was fun, flirty, and sexy. I laughed about her dates. The poor girl. Really though, I liked Gemma but I loved Oliver. There is just something about nerdy sexy that just gets to me. He isn’t too cocky but he is confident. I loved that he could banter with Gemma, she is a kind of crazy that I enjoy. Together, they are honest with each other but at the same time they are confused about what is really happening. They did make me laugh, get hot and bothered and made me feel grateful for finding my prince years ago.
Overall…it’s a fast and fun read.
Quotes:
“Do you think it was the period that made you lose your balance?”
“You came here looking for one thing, take whatever it is you need.”
“Did I ever tell you you’re like a mirage in the desert? Thank fuck, Oliver. Get me away from these people before they wipe my brain and abduct me away to Pleasantville.”

Author of romance novels such as Red Card and On Thin Ice, Carrie Aarons writes sexy, swoony and sarcastic characters who won’t get out of her head until she puts them down on a page.

Carrie has wanted to be an author since the first time she opened a book, and can’t imagine a better or more maddening profession.

Blog Tour, Review, Excerpt & *Giveaway* – Risk and Reward, Rachael Duncan

March 8, 2017 By

Title: Risk and Reward
Author: Rachael Duncan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 6, 2017

Grass isn’t always greener…

DIVORCE.

I never dreamed this would become my reality.
But it is.
After feeling neglected and alone for far too long, I end it,
Blindsiding my husband in the process.
He’s hurt, torn, and confused,
Never expecting me to leave.
His pain tears at my heart, begs me to stay.
And I almost do.
Almost.

Moving on isn’t as easy as it seems.
The memories tap at my conscience,
Reminding me of what I’m missing,
What I used to have.
But, I walked away,
From the man I promised forever,
Possibly making the worst mistake of my life.

I’ve let go, given myself a promise of a new life, new hope.
But does the other side have more risk than reward?

4 Stars
Risk and Reward is a standalone novel. If you read Rachael’s book Calculated Risk then you might remember Charlotte and her husband Nate. I actually didn’t read that book (I somehow missed it) but after reading this book it makes me want to read it. Well…this isn’t about Marcus and Lydia. It’s about Charlotte and Nate’s marriage and impending divorce…

Charlotte isn’t happy. Over the last few years her marriage has shifted from feeling loved and wanted to lonely and ignored. She loves Nate but she can’t do this anymore. And when she says she wants a divorce, Nate is shocked. He didn’t see that coming. He knew he traveled a lot for work but he didn’t notice that his wife wasn’t getting what she needed. Affection. Attention. When it hits him he doesn’t want her to leave but it’s too late. Charlotte needs to discover herself again. She needs a fresh start. She has one year until she can file for divorce. One year to figure out what she really wants. She takes the risk…

It’s not easy for Charlotte to walk away. She moves out. She finds a job. She is feeling independent. But she is also confused. She doesn’t know what to do next. She falls into her life but still feels like something is missing. She has her friends to help support her during this time. She has also found a new friendship with someone she works with. She goes back and forth between feeling like she made the right decision in leaving Nate and feeling like she didn’t fight enough to stay. She took the risk but what are the rewards?

I thought this story was different. It wasn’t about instalove. It was about self-discovery, balance, love, friendship and taking risks. I was cheering for Charlotte and at times I was screaming at her. Not going lie, I liked the first half but I didn’t love it. But, during second half started to fall.

Overall…it’s a very enjoyable read that made me laugh, cringe, and tear up. It has a unique storyline with some great characters. I love this group of friends and am excited about the next book. I think that one with be full of cockiness and sass.

Quotes:

“Do all your friends give you goose bumps?”

“Ah, I forgot; I was your chef.”
His expression turns hard. “No, you were my world.”

“I don’t know why you’re still in denial. You two definitely have a thing going on.”
“If this thing involves me kicking him in the balls, then yes, we do.”

It’s easy to recognize the bad when you’re in the moment. All the good is erased and you’re blinded by the negative. Each fight, every moment of hurt starts as a small scab. If taken care of, it’ll heal. But the more you pick, the worse it gets until it festers and infects everything. Is that what I let happen to my marriage? What if I had tried to fix my initial hurt instead of internalizing and letting it fester?

Rachael Duncan is an Army wife and mother to two beautiful girls. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and went off to graduate from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in political science. With initial plans to work in politics, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked on Capitol Hill for a House Representative. After a short time, she realized it wasn’t for her and began pursuing other careers until she started writing. She’s the author of Tackled by Love, The Lies and Truth Series, and Hopeless Vows.

Blog Tour, Review, Excerpt & *Giveaway* – Under the Peaches, Shana Vanterpool

Title: Under The Peaches
Series: Teaching Love #1
Author: Shana Vanterpool
Genre: NA Romance
Release Date: February 28, 2017

Unwanted. A word eighteen-year-old Kaelyn Jefferies knows better than most. Given up at birth, she knows nothing of love. Now she navigates this world blind, worrying only about her present to survive. And sometimes when you’re the only guide you have, you don’t always do what’s best for yourself. After another confrontation with her bully, Kaelyn flees to her hiding spot to be alone and nurse her wounds. Instead, she finds Julian Ean, the gorgeous twenty-four-year-old calculus teacher the other girls whisper about, nursing a few of his own. Until that moment, Mr. Ean was simply a man she passed in the halls. Afterwards, he is impossible to ignore … to forget.

Mr. Ean only wanted to help Kaelyn. Patch her up and show her she was worth so much more than she was giving herself. He didn’t mean to fall in love with a student. It’s wrong, he knows it, but he can’t help himself around her. Not when her pain feels like his.

Kaelyn didn’t mean to fall in love with a teacher. It’s wrong, she knows it, but after Mr. Ean shows her what a real smile feels like, there’s no going back after that …

Book one in the Teaching Love Series, comes a poignant coming-of-age novel showcasing the beauty of strength and the delicious lure of forbidden love by Shana Vanterpool.

4.5 Stars

Under the Peaches is the first book in the Teaching Love series. I have read every single one of Shana’s books and have loved each of them for different reasons. But they all do have a common thread. They are not roses and rainbows type of love stories. They are difficult and conflicting. You will either love or hate the characters. I do go back and forth between the two while reading their story but in the end…I understand them. I have only read a few teacher/student romances and this is one of them. It’s risky. It’s forbidden. And it’s dangerous. But in the end…will it be worth it?

Kaelyn has been fighting against bullies and rumors for the last few years. But she has felt unwanted since the day she was born. She is now eighteen and she still hasn’t felt loved, safe, or wanted even for one day. All she has felt from the many foster parents over the years is unwanted, hated, and not worth a damn except for their monthly paychecks from the state. Then, after getting hit again from the bully that loves to torment her, she goes to her special spot to be alone. Except this time, she isn’t alone. Mr. Ean, the young and very attractive math teacher is there. And in that moment they both feel a shift.

They know it’s forbidden but it feels so right. From the moment Julian saw her, he wanted to save her. He wanted to show her that she was worth more than she knew possible. He wanted her to stand up for herself and not blame herself for what others were doing to her. It was not her fault. But he also knew, it would be difficult. Where she saw herself as weak, he saw as strong. Where she felt ugly, he saw beauty. He just needed to prove to her that she could trust what he was saying. That he isn’t like the other men in her life. That he was the exception.

Kaelyn never felt this. Safe, loved, and wanted. She wasn’t sure if she could believe it or she was going to wake up in a dream. But it wasn’t easy. She had to be a secret. She was also dealing with so much more than just falling for a teacher. She had her bullies, foster parents, and her job. She wasn’t the type to look in the future but she knew she wanted him there. But she also knew she wouldn’t forgive herself if he lost everything because of her. Can they hide their true feelings and only show them in the shadows? Will she ever be able to take a compliment?

I loved that this wasn’t just a love story. It was also about bullying, self-doubt, and letting go. The characters are complicated, conflicted, frustrating at times, fun in others. They also have a deep connection to each other. Julian can feel when she is hurt and she can look at him and tell from one look that something is off. Not going lie…I wanted to slap Julian a few times. I also wanted to shake Kaelyn but after thinking about why, I knew they were just doing and saying what needed to be said. I also needed to remember that she is only eighteen. A mature eighteen but still eighteen. She is stronger than she thinks. That’s for sure.

Overall…I thought it was an great start to a series. Shana always delivers a story with complex characters that make you want to scream, laugh, and get hot and bothered with. I am excited to see what she has next for us!

Quotes:

“It’s my time. Let me decide how I want to use it. And it wouldn’t be a waste. It would be a privilege.”

“Any more questions, Mr. Ean?”
“Yes, actually. When it has to do with you I have a million.”

“I’m used to not having what I want.” I take my hand back and smile sadly.
“It’s an old game.”

“A beautiful romance. I cried. I laughed. I swooned (a lot!). I added Mr. Ean to my book boyfriend list for sure (*wink*)!” – Reader Review
“This book is the BOMB!!!
YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!” – Bookish_Affair
“This Book, this book!! Is there anything Shana Vanterpool can’t write??” – MillsyLovesBooks
“This book has easily been my favorite for this year. Shana has a way of bringing out the tears from me but also putting smiles and feeling happy for the characters.” -A Bibliophile’s World

In my current state, between ignoring and hanging on every word, I admit that’s what he is to me too. A shield between the hurt and me. I know exactly what he means. When I am around him, I forget to hurt, and it isn’t fair because he’s hurting too. But I can’t help it. No one warned me about him either.
“Julian.”
“It’s like,” he whispers. “Like and attraction doesn’t mean love.”
What did mean love?

He takes a seat at the bar and stares at me with a myriad of emotions on his face. I can’t place them because I don’t know why they’re there. But I’ve felt a few. Sadness isn’t simply one emotion. It’s too many all at once.

“I’m sorry about that. You just got a front row seat to the end of my relationship and you shouldn’t have.”

I peek at him. “Is she your girlfriend?”

“Since freshman year of college.” He looks at the worn bar top for an uncomfortable second, and then the words seem to fall out of him in one heartbroken whisper. “I don’t know what to do.”

I look down too, not knowing what to say. Having no relationship to speak of, I don’t know what he’s going through.

He exhales deeply and stands. “I’d better get back.” He smiles weakly, leaving me at the bar.

“Who is that?” Tamryn asks, joining me as I watch him leave.

“Mr. Ean. He’s a teacher at my school.”

Her eyes widen. “He’s so young.”

“He’s twenty-four.”

“Huh. He’s so hot,” she murmurs, dumbfounded.

I smile. “He is kind of good-looking.”

“Kind of?” she scoffs. “Who’s he with?”

“His girlfriend.”

“Oh. Of course, he’s taken. Too old for you and taken for me. We can’t catch a break, can we?” She bumps my shoulder. “Get back to work, slacker.”

He wasn’t that much older than me. I do the math, shocked to find maybe six years is a stretch. Coupled with the fact that he’s a teacher, and the man is completely off-limits.

Cover Reveal & Excerpt – Trigger, LP Dover

January 12, 2017 By

Title: Trigger
Series: A Circle of Justice Novel
Author: LP Dover
Genre: Romantic Suspense Standalone
Release Date: February 6, 2017
Cover Designed By: Mae I Design and Photography

A killer . . . that’s what I am.
It’s what I do.
It’s what I live for.
I’m no longer the Preston Hale everyone knew. I left that life and the people in it a long time ago the second I made my first kill. I wasn’t going to give in, but when I heard the screams there was no going back.
It triggered the pain, the need.
I knew what I had to do, and I did it well. But I never expected for Emma Turner – the only link to my past – to come back into my life.
She triggers a different emotion inside me, something I hadn’t ever felt.
It’s not a want to kill . . . but a need to CLAIM.
When I got downstairs to the dining room, Glenn and Wade were already there, speaking to each other in hushed tones by the large window. There were shiny plates on the table, with all sorts of silverware around them. Start from the outside and work your way in, was what I was told when it came to using the various forks and spoons. Give me just one of each and I’d be happy.

It wasn’t long before Glenn noticed me at the door and the conversation ceased. “Emma, you look lovely tonight,” he announced.

I smiled. “Thank you.”

He beckoned me over to the table and Wade held out a seat for me. I sat down and he took the one on the right, while Glenn sat on my left at the head of the table. There was only one other place setting and it was across from me.

“Wine?” Glenn asked, holding up the bottle.

I nodded. “Sure.”

He poured me a glass and I took a sip. It tasted like heaven, all fruity and crisp. It was so good I had to take another sip, and another, while we waited on the special guest. Not even a minute later, the dining room door opened and a man walked in. Only, he wasn’t just anyone.

It’d been eight years and he’d surely changed, but there was no mistaking those gray eyes. His hair was the same light brown, and mussed up like all the guys did their hair these days. However, his body looked totally different. His cream colored, long-sleeve sweater hugged a set of muscular arms, and his face was more rugged, covered in a five o’clock shadow.

I almost choked on my wine. “Oh my God.” Is it really him?

“Emma, are you okay?” Wade asked, his voice low.

“Yeah,” I whispered. “I’m fine.”

I waited for Preston to look at the table, and when his gaze finally caught mine, he paused for a slight second. In his face, I could see the friend I lost so long ago, but it vanished quickly.

Glenn and Wade both stood when Preston approached, and I shot up out of my seat, bumping the table with my jerky movements. Glenn grinned at me and then at Preston. “Preston Hale, I’d like you to meet Emma Turner. She’s my assistant. Emma, this is Preston Hale, a close family friend. His father is one of my dearest friends.”

Preston held out his hand and looked at me as if he’d never laid eyes on me before. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Was he being serious? I shook his hand and made sure to put a little extra squeeze in there for good measure. “Meet me? Surely, you remember who I am.”

Glenn’s eyes went wide. “Wait. You two already know each other?”

I nodded. “From college.” I was about to add before he up and left without a trace, but thought better of it.

Glenn chuckled and smacked a hand on Preston’s shoulder. “Well, isn’t this a small world? You’ll have to tell me some stories on this one.” He nodded my way.

Preston’s jaw clenched. “Can’t. Don’t remember her.”

My mouth dropped open; it was like being punched in the gut and slapped in the face, all at the same time. No words would come out, so I sat there with a lump in my throat. In college, he’d been a close friend. I sang with him in his band, Silent Break. We connected on stage in a way I’d never felt with anyone. I cared about him, and had even been ready to take the next step in our relationship right before he up and disappeared. I never got to tell him how I felt. Now he looked at me as if I was a stranger.

The room fell silent. I wanted to say something, but I bit my tongue. It was going to be the longest dinner of my life.

Can love create a masterpiece when it’s painted on your heart?

5 Stars

Kindle Alexander books are always worth waiting for and Painted on My Heart was the perfect love story with the alpha male, Arik with an A,  who set his sights on the tortured artist, Kellus. Arik has felt connected to Kellus through his art long before meeting the man. So when he does see him for the first time, the connection is stronger than he could have imagined. Kellus’s art speaks to Arik. It does something to his heart and soul and he desperately wants the artist. Kellus is quiet and subdued for an artist. He wants to stay out of the limelight and avoid personal relationships. Arik is not going to let that happen. He wants him and he’s going to get him. Gage (who I loved seeing again!) also isn’t going to let Kellus stay in the shadows when it comes to his art. He’s his biggest fan and he wants the world to know all about him. I love the dynamic between Arik and Kellus. They are both so different but it works for them. Arik commands, Kellus says no. Arik keeps pressing and finally Kellus gives in. They make each other laugh, they turn each other on and they have obstacles to overcome. My favorite part is that Arik knows that he wants Kellus and he goes after him. He’s not wishy washy and he never second guesses himself. Arik’s family is crazy funny and I loved seeing Trent and Gage interact with them. Gage and Arik are cousins and they are hilarious together! We also get to see Jace and Colt again!! Overall, I loved this emotional ride that Arik and Kellus took me on. I laughed, I cried, I got mad and I got hot and bothered. The perfect mix of emotions that kept me engrossed from page one.

Arik’s kiss became possessive, hungry, and exactly everything Kellus needed. Missed. Wanted.

“What are you wanting from me?”

“Just a chance.”

“A chance for what?”

“A chance at our future.”

Sandra's Review

5 Stars

Painted on my Heart is a standalone novel with supporting characters from some of her previous books. I read the first chapter last month when I read the updated version of The Current Between Us and I couldn’t wait for more of Arik and Kellus story!

Kellus Hardin is a very private artist that fights daily. Fights with his past. Fights to let go. Fights to express his feelings through his work. And fights for his future. These fights are not easy but they are the only way for him to survive. It’s also a lonely way to live but it’s better than being hurt more than he already has. His ex has a hold on him. One that he doesn’t want but guilt is a nasty bitch. He knows he shouldn’t feel this way but he does. John was his world for most of his life and now all John is is a shell of the man he used to love. He wants to move on. He wants to let go. He wants to find love again but who would want him with all of this baggage?

Arik straight up isn’t a relationship type of guy. He likes his boy toys except when they surprise him. He is too busy to deal with all the strings that come with a relationship. That was until he met the artist he fell in love with five years ago. He has never met the man or even seen a picture of him but his work has been close to his heart. He never looked at art as anything except a painting on the wall or a statue taking up space in a room until he received his first Kellus Hardin original. He has been addicted ever since and has been adding more to his resorts around the world ever since. And now, he will finally met the man that has touched his soul without knowing it. And when he does…nothing will stop him from getting to know the man behind the art. What he doesn’t expect is a fight at every turn.

Arik and Kellus’s relationship is full of ups and downs. Twists and turns. This is all new for Arik. He wants to do whatever it takes for Kellus to be happy. But at the same time he has to understand that Kellus has his struggles and insecurities. He doesn’t understand why a man like Arik would want him. He feels all that he could bring into the relationship is his baggage. Can Arik show him that he brings so much more?

I loved this couple! The connection between them is beautiful. The chemistry is beyond hot. It’s sinful. Their banter is of two stubborn-headed men that want what’s best for the other. It’s pretty funny actually. This story isn’t just about amazing sex and finding love. It’s about so much more. There are some serious issues involved that is so sad to read but necessary because they are real.

I also enjoyed catching up with Gage and Trent from The Current Between Us. Gage is funny fucker…

Overall…it’s another amazing book by Kindle Alexander! It gave me all the feels. I know it took awhile for her to write it and it was totally worth the wait. Can’t rush beauty.

Quotes:

He was an odd mix of a man. Watching him had become Arik’s favorite pastime, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on Kellus’s true personality.

“You make me want things I shouldn’t.”

“Stop distracting me. I want you to enjoy your treat.”

Chapter 1

The shrill ring of his phone should have startled him awake, but Kellus Hardin was just too damn tired to do much more than roll in the direction of the irritating sound and throw a hand out to half-ass search around his mattress for the device. When he came up empty handed, he managed to turn the other way and do the same. By the time his exhausted sleep-hazed brain identified the phone wasn’t anywhere around him, he heard the chirp indicating a voice mail. He cracked an eyelid and lifted his head enough to look over at the alarm clock. Four thirty in the morning. Seriously? Nothing good could come from a call that time of night. He collapsed back to the bed with an annoyed groan. He’d been asleep less than an hour after working the fifteen before on the pieces he had due for the art gallery opening.
“Fuck,” he growled out, turning over again. He tucked a soft pillow into his side and decided he’d deal with that call in the morning. His exhausted state gave a solid thumbs-up on the plan, and he easily drifted back to sleep. What had to be a mere second later, the ringing started again. Stupid cell phone.
Kellus threw the covers away from his body and darted off the bed, angrier than he’d been in a very long time. He was fucking tired—tired of his fucked-up life and tired of this motherfucker who wouldn’t leave him the fuck alone.
Fuck!
With a vengeance, he zeroed in on the location of the noise. He marched to his laundry basket by the bedroom door and began tearing through the clothes to find the stupid phone, no doubt still inside his paint-spattered coveralls where he’d dropped it not fifty-three minutes ago before he’d finally managed to crawl into bed.
Palming the device, he glared at the caller ID. John. Of course. Who else would call in the middle of the fucking night?
“What?” he shouted as he connected the call.
“Come get him.” A deep masculine voice with a Spanish accent had him pulling the phone from his ear to look down at the screen in confusion.
Wait. Great. Even fucking better—John’s dealer.
“No,” he said firmly as he stood tall and fisted his free hand at his side. His chest bowed in defiance as if the guy on the other end of the phone were right there in his darkened bedroom. “You give him that shit, you deal with him.”
The harsh laugh on the other end of the line held what might have been genuine amusement. “I deal with him and it won’t end well.” The line went dead. Kellus shoved his fingers through his hair to help push the long strands out of his eyes.
“Fuck!” he bellowed to the empty room, spinning in a complete circle, gripping his phone in his hand and punching his fist through the air. Thank God he was alone, because if anybody had witnessed that little outburst he’d have been carted off to the nearest mental facility. He was just so fucking sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Breath heaving as anger and dread coursed through his veins, Kellus stood there, staring absently at his bed. The fatigue of the day settled heavy on his shoulders. He had responsibilities. He couldn’t take on more of John’s bullshit. He jammed the heels of his palms against his tired eyes and released an exhausted sigh. After so many hours holding a brush for the fine details of his painting, his hands cramped with the movement, and the muscles in his neck and back protested the long hours he’d put in today. He needed sleep. More than the fifty-three minutes he’d gotten.
“I’m not fucking doing this again. I warned him the last time. I made it clear. No more!” Kellus sliced the hand still holding his cell through the air with finality. With that decision made, he stalked across the room and tossed his phone on the nightstand. He climbed back in his bed, whipping the covers over his exhausted body.
He hadn’t heard from John in six days.
Six glorious, productive, happy days.
Staring up at the ceiling, unable to get his mind to shut off, he told himself he’d made the right decision. John needed to stay away. Kellus forced his eyelids closed. At this point, he’d still get a few good hours sleep before he had to start his day. The longer he lay there, the more guilt crept in.
It always did.
Images of his best friend came to mind. Happier times. Memories of his and John’s younger days and all the trouble they’d managed to get into. Those thoughts actually calmed his breathing. His mind drifted to the summer of their senior year. He hadn’t thought about that time in so long. He and John had gone to the lake with some friends. A healthy, glowing, handsome John had teased him unmercifully until he had finally agreed to skinny dip…
“Fuck!” Kellus whipped off the covers and rose, angry and worried.
He couldn’t leave John in that place.
Kellus stopped dead center in his bedroom, fuming; he was so pissed at himself, at his own indecision, at John. What the fuck was wrong with him? John had destroyed both their lives, shit on him over and over with absolutely no regard for his feelings whatsoever. He’d lost everything because of John. He swore he’d never do this again.
But he couldn’t leave John there.
Not there.
Dejected, Kellus ran a frustrated hand over his face, sighed, then went for his closet to dress.

Topping out at max speed, Arik Layne flew down the Dallas North Tollway. Being the only one on the highway might have been the only benefit of flying home in the middle of the night from his Escape Del Mar property.
God, he was past exhausted.
Less than five minutes later, Arik parked and wearily made his way through the private entrance of his downtown Dallas high-rise, shrugging out of his hand-tailored suit jacket before he reached the elevator. At the elevator, he tossed the garment over his arm and entered his exclusive security code into the wall-mounted keypad, effectively locking the car for his personal use. The doors opened immediately. The technology didn’t require him to do anything more than step inside before the doors closed and the overhead floor-indicator light displayed each passing floor, a soft ding sounding repeatedly as he traveled non-stop up the forty or so floors to his penthouse. Arik rested against the back wall, forcing a finger into the knot of his necktie to loosen its tight hold. He then removed each cuff link at his wrist and absently dropped them into his slacks pockets. The more he removed now, the faster he could hit his perfect Vera Wang mattress and shut his tired eyes.
The entire building was quiet. Another benefit to relocating to this area. Well, sort of. Dallas as a whole was quieter than any place he’d ever lived. He walked the few steps to his front door, pulling out his wallet to wave in front of the security pad when the doors didn’t unlock at his arrival. Strangely, the key card inside his wallet didn’t trigger the lock to release. Arik let out a yawn as he entered his code into the attached keypad. He’d have to remember to check his card in the morning.
The overhead lights automatically lit as he entered his front door, and the motion sensors continued lighting his way the deeper he ventured inside his home. Arik absently tossed his suit jacket on a chair in the living room, never straying from the direct path to his bedroom. He pulled his shirttails from his slacks, his level of sheer exhaustion rising with each step he took. Honestly, that had to be the only reason he didn’t register the glow of lights coming from underneath the closed door until he’d already turned the handle.
“What the fuck?” His heart almost leaped out of his chest when he stepped inside his bedroom to find someone sprawled across his bed in what probably qualified as a seductive pose. Recognition took another second to seep in.
“Surprise!” A small pop sounded and confetti flew into the air, scattering across his bed.
Arik’s brows snapped together. Oh hell no. He loved that bed.
“What the hell are you doing?” Arik asked as he moved farther inside the room. He registered the slight look of indignation and the flip of that long, black, silky hair before Boy Toy’s face morphed again into a pleasant smile.
“I came to surprise you.” BT wiggled his sexy ass and gave a cheeky little smile.
Even as tired and annoyed as he was, Arik experienced a stir below his belt. He was human after all, and this particular BT was especially skilled. He stopped at his dresser, reached inside his front slacks pockets and casually tossed the contents on the small tray. He didn’t like surprises of any kind, and BT, short for boy toy number one hundred and—hell, he’d lost count of the willing men he’d bedded—had just shocked the hell out of him.
This one was way too pretty and so deliciously tempting that for a split second he almost gave in…almost.
No, he had to stay firm. This was utter bullshit. He couldn’t have random BTs breaking into his home, surprising him at every turn, desecrating his perfect bed with confetti.
“How did you get in here?” he asked, leaning against the dresser, casually crossing his arms over his chest.
“I’ve been planning this since you left me last week. I swiped your card from your wallet when you were in the shower.” Boy Toy lost the erotic pose, probably too much strain for his delicate body.
“I guess I need to keep a closer eye on my wallet in the future.” Arik shoved away from the dresser and headed toward his closet.
“I’m beginning to think you’re not happy that I’m here. You know I’d look good on your arm for the opening of Escape Dallas.” BT hopped up from the bed and trailed after him, following him into the closet.
“Are these your things?” he asked, nodding toward the garment bag hanging in his closet with luggage settled beneath. Arik’s things had been pushed aside and replaced with BT’s, as if the guy planned to stay awhile. First the bed, now the closet. He didn’t allow anyone to breach his private space. That crossed every line he had.
Fuck, he’d known when he first saw this guy he’d be trouble. The gorgeous ones always were. Arik shook his head.
“Yes, I put them next to yours. I arrived late and didn’t have time to unpack.”
Arik abandoned his silk tie on the built-in dresser and began to grab BT’s things. The level of pissed off coursing through him now superseded any desire he might have mustered.
“You can’t ever do this again. I told you from the beginning,” Arik said, shoving the garment bag toward BT as he went for the two suitcases, then he tossed the strap of one over his shoulder and grabbed the other by the handgrip. How long had he even planned to stay that he needed all this?
“Be careful with that. It’s got my mink inside!” BT carefully draped the bag over his arm, allowing Arik to take him by his other arm and forcefully guide him from the closet.
“Why in the hell would you bring a fur coat to Texas?” Arik kept his grip tight, even when BT tried to worm his way out.
“Why would I leave home without… What are you doing?” BT actually held on to the doorframe to keep Arik from removing him from the bedroom.
“You’re going to the guest room, BT. We’ll talk—”
A solid outraged screech cut him off.
“Stop calling me that! I hate that. I have a name.” The guy went into full-on diva mode right there in the middle of his hall.
“You’ve known the deal from the beginning. I don’t like these kinds of surprises. I was very clear,” Arik said. When he realized it might take two hands to deposit BT into the guest bedroom, he went for that door, pushed it open wide, and tossed the suitcase in his hand across the room. For a second there, he’d thought the guy planned to go back to Arik’s bedroom which would have turned things pretty shitty real quick. Luckily, BT came toward him with a very calm, patient look on his face.
“If you would just go with it, we could have a very special relationship,” BT said, placing a delicate hand on Arik’s dress shirt, letting his fingers trail down Arik’s chest as he took a step closer. “I’m good at attending events with you. I look good on your arm. Besides, I’m tired of modeling. It takes up so much of my time. And if we came to some sort of arrangement, with all my extra free time, I could take care of you any way you saw fit.”
“Not gonna happen.”
BT’s words couldn’t have been better deterrent for giving in and indulging in a quick hook-up. Arik preferred his fun with no strings attached. Not that he had anything against the whole finding Mr. Right concept. But the boy toy currently groping his ass was not anywhere close to his idea of relationship material. Arik stopped the hand at his waistband and shrugged the case off his shoulder, dumping it right inside the guest bedroom door. He left the gorgeous but clearly crazy man standing there as he headed back toward his bedroom.
“I need to leave here by eight in the morning. Be ready.’’
“Seriously? You’re just leaving? I stretched myself to be ready for you.”
Arik looked back to see BT stomp his foot for good measure, his now flaccid dick swinging in the process. BT was certainly beautifully put together, tall, lean, chiseled abs, a perfect body that Arik knew from past experience could bring a lot of pleasure.
No, Arik. That was how he’d gotten in this situation in the first place. Stop. No. Walk away.
“Goodnight, BT. Don’t come back to my room,” he said at the door.
“Stop calling me BT! I’m not just your boy toy! My name is Steffan.”
Steffan—yeah, he remembered that now. Steffan twirled around and stalked into the guest bedroom, that long hair floating out around him. The door slammed shut in his wake.
Arik closed his door and reached down to twist the lock when he heard something crashing against the guest room door. Arik chuckled at that one and quickly opened his door again.
“Be ready by eight in the morning. I won’t be happy if you make me late,” he yelled before closing and relocking the door.

He staggered to the bed. His bed. Even with taking the time to rid the bedspread of the confetti and change the pillowcases where that overly strong cologne lingered, he’d still, hopefully, get at least a couple hours’ sleep.

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

Promo, Review & *Giveaway* – Hopeless Vows, Rachael Duncan

December 14, 2016 By

Hopeless Vows by Rachael Duncan
Genre: Contemporary Romance Standalone
Cover Designer: Cover Me Darling
– LIMITED TIME $0.99 SALE –
5 Stars

Hopeless Vows is the first book I have read by Rachael Duncan and I know for a fact it will not be my last. I thought it was fun, sweet, sexy, and with plenty of twists to keep you wanting more…

Jillian is twenty-eight and working as a columnist for a fashion magazine. She is ready to find the love of her life, she never thought she would be putting her fate in the hands of a reality tv show and their experts but she believes in the process. She will be marrying a man she has never met, she is excited, nervous, and hopeful. Then she sees him. She freezes and wants to run but can’t. She has to do this. It’s only eight-weeks, right? She can walk away then, she just can’t fall…

Austin believes everything happens for a reason and you should always live without regrets. That is why he is dedicated to making this marriage to a stranger work. He wants her to be his forever. The moment he sees her, he knows it worked. He saw her freeze and senses that she has a wall around her. Now, that they are married he wants to be the one to break it down…

Jillian and Austin over the next few months have a whirlwind of a relationship. It had its ups  and downs but Austin makes her feel like she is on cloud 9. Monday’s are now her favorite day of the week and they have their routine. But, she knows it can’t last. Austin was so happy that Jillian was comfortable and had a great relationship with his wife, they laughed, cuddled and talked but there was still something keeping her back, that last piece of wall he couldn’t breakdown. He wasn’t too worried though, he had a lifetime to figure it out. He found his forever but would it last? What if that last piece not only breaks her wall but also ruin them?

Well, looks like I have added another book boyfriend to my list of many. Austin is so sweet, handsome, supportive, and not pushy but not a push over either. Did he disappoint me at some point? Yes. Did Jillian? Yes!! But if it was easy, then it wouldn’t be fun, right? I thought Jillian was a strong, beautiful woman that needed to feel loved. She deserved it. Would Austin be the man to give her that love?

Overall…I thought it was a beautiful, unique, fun, and emotional read with some twists.

Quotes:

“I call bullshit. In fact, I think you like that I’m cocky.”

“Should I call you out on checking me out again, or should I let you slide this time?” With his sunglasses on, I wasn’t aware he was watching me.

Dammit.

“Next time keep your mouth shut. You ruin it for me by speaking.”

“I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but we kinda passed the dating phase.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. I plan to date you for the rest of my life.”

“This is the first book I’ve read by Rachael Duncan, but it won’t be my last. I absolutely loved this book from start to finish.” – A.M. Madden, Amazon and Barnes & Noble Best Selling Romance Author
“I can’t rate Hopeless Vows high enough and I honestly feel like this will be Rachael’s breakthrough novel that will take her places and have her name known all around this community. Brilliant job!” -Swoon Worthy Book Blog
“I haven’t had a book hangover in so long and after reading Hopeless Vows, I did. This book is beyond good.” -Joanne Schwehm, author of the Prescott Series
“What did I think? I’m honestly not sure I can convey what I think right now. I feel like no matter what words I put down that it won’t do this book justice.” – Books, Chocolate, and Lipgloss
“Jillian and Austin literally sizzled on the pages. The chemistry was palpable. The characters were well-developed and the plot was so much more than I thought it would be.” -Casey L. Bond, author of The Sin Series
“I love the way her writing balances sexiness, humor and hurt, and I find myself able to relate to her characters, no matter how outlandish or unconventional their circumstances.” -Give Me Books
“As an author, it’s hard for me to find a book that is unpredictable for me. Usually, I can see twists and turns coming from a mile away, but Rachael had a couple for me I never saw coming.” -JB McGee, Best Selling Author

It was a modern take on an arranged marriage that was supposed to lead to my happily ever after. The rules were simple:

1. Marry a complete stranger chosen for you by professionals.
2. Live together as man and wife for eight weeks while cameras record your every move.
3. Make a decision to stay together or get a divorce.

Call me crazy, but I had complete faith in the process, until I saw who was waiting for me at the end of the aisle.

Austin James has never met me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know him. With no other choice, I say my vows and pray I can make it through the next eight weeks. Then I’ll leave. What connects us is my best kept secret, and I’ll protect it at all costs even if that means walking away from the only person I’ve ever cared about.

Wanting to get the focus off of me, I ask, “What about you? Why did none of your past relationships work?”

He stares straight into my eyes and says, “Because they weren’t you. I was looking for you my whole life and never knew it.” He doesn’t blink, his stare unwavering as he sears his declaration into my mind.

“Nice line.” He’s making me uncomfortable, putting me on edge and getting closer than I’d like.

“It’s not a line. I believe everything happens for a reason, and I believe my other relationships failed so that they’d lead me to you.”

Fate. Is that what this is?

No, it’s karma being a bitch. He doesn’t know what I know. If he did, he wouldn’t be spilling this poetic bullshit about us being destined for each other.
