For Wall McCormack, actions speak louder than words. He’s giving and protective, loyal to his friends, and devoted to his job. While confident and powerful enough to conquer any challenge, his greatest strength lies in his calm nature. Until an unexpected assignment sends his world into a loud and colorful chaos he never could have anticipated.

Rejection. It’s something Dylan Vaughn has known his entire life. But he’s a tough nut to crack and refuses to break. Armed with a sharp tongue and brutal honesty, he pushes through life and at anyone who attempts to take him on. Except for the quiet guardian who piques his interest and dares him to want…more.

When Dylan’s past comes back with a vengeance and jeopardizes their growing connection, Wall will stop at nothing to protect the younger man and remain by his side. But convincing Dylan that someone accepts the real man behind the cocky facade might prove to be Wall’s greatest challenge yet.
With his freedom on the line, Dylan must trust the strength of their bond and confront the forces threatening their future. Only then will he realize the dream of acceptance is real and finally have a place to call home.

A Chosen Man is the sixth book in The Men of Halfway House series by the fabulous Jaime Reese. I have read this entire series and I believe this is my favorite! It can be read as a standalone, but I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to read the entire series and meet all these fabulous men. I’m not sure what it is about Dylan and Wall that I love so much. I know I love this cover and couldn’t stop looking at it. Jaime is one of those talented authors who designs her covers to look exactly like the character inside. I love that! Dylan is young, but brilliant. He’s used to rejection and no one caring about him so he’s a little thrown back at the men in Halfway House actually caring about him. He’s also drawn to Wall, a seriously sexy, huge man who Dylan can’t stop thinking about. Dylan’s brain constantly works overtime and he can’t help but be a brat sometimes. He’s also really honest, but that doesn’t seem to stop these new people in his life from liking him. When his past comes back to find him, Wall needs to protect Dylan. The attraction between Wall and Dylan sizzles off the pages. The stoic silence of Wall and the chatty wordiness of Dylan is the perfect mix. I laughed every time Wall said “Why” and I love Dylan’s reaction to that question. Every. Time! There was just something about Dylan that called to me. He was so broken and vulnerable, but so fun and wanted to be noticed. He is mouthy, but really just wanted to be loved. Wall is quiet but smart. He watches and listens and he’s looking for more than a night of pleasure. He’s older and realizes he knows what’s missing in his life. Both Wall and Dylan have been heartbroken and hurt, but together they can find the answers they are looking for. I loved this story. So. Much. Dylan’s individualism and his crazy smart brain. Wall and his sexiness and watching eyes. I’m a huge fan of Jaime’s and I’ve read all of her books and with every one she grows as a writer. I think this is her best writing yet! Overall, I laughed a lot, cried, swooned, got hot and bothered and already want more Dylan and Wall!

“You want to spank the smartass right out of me. Don’t you?”

“Get your smartass in the truck.”

“You’re the only wall I’ve ever wanted to climb.”

“You curse a lot.”

“Literary embellishments. Now you know to  never put me on speaker.”

“It’s a little scary how you know what goes on in my head and know what to say. You’re so wise. You’re like a beefcake prophet.”

“Why?”

“My goodness, does the big man loves his small word.”

Sandra's Review

A Chosen Man is the sixth book in the Men of Halfway House series. I have read the entire series but you can read it as a complete standalone. I do recommend adding the series to your TBR though because it is one of my favorites.
Dylan knows what rejection feel like. He has felt it since the minute he was born. His parents didn’t want him. His foster families didn’t want him saying he was too difficult when in reality he was just misunderstood. Men didn’t want him for more than one night. The only time he felt wanted landed him in prison for two years. He was now out and it looks like his past is catching up to him. And the only man standing between him and his past is a man who could break him. Wall McCormack.
Wall wanted the snarky, and colorful Dylan from the moment he saw him. He hadn’t felt that way for a long time but this man was brutally honest and that was exactly what he needed. A man who wasn’t afraid to tell it how it was. He was brutally honest but he was also a criminal so he had to be careful. With his heart. His head. He didn’t want to be blindsided yet again. He was here to protect Dylan not fall for him.
A challenge. That was what this was. Who would break first. They both felt the heat between them. It was also more. Wall didn’t talk much. It was more like grunts, frowns, and one word answers. What Wall didn’t realize was that Dylan read his frowns. He knew what the big guy was thinking and it wasn’t always about where they were getting their next meal. His thoughts were above all protective but dirty as well. But, was getting involved worth the risk? To their safety. To their hearts. Dylan wanted to be part of a family. To be loved. Can Wall be the man to give it to him?
Overall…I loved this story! It was suspenseful, hot, emotional, and funny. The characters pulled at my heartstrings. The story was full of laughter, action, and love. I loved the teasing banter between the men. I hope this isn’t the last of the series. I will always want more.
Quotes:
“Did you massacre a rainbow in the tub?”
“I licked you. So you’re mine.”
“You can tell me anything. Just don’t tell me unicorns aren’t real. I’ll be devastated.”
“You have other skills.”
“I doubt being bratty and having a smart mouth are next on the list of desired skills.”
“Why do you consider those two of your most glowing qualities?”
Dylan looked up. “Huh?”
“You mention them after your computer skills. So they are the traits you associate with yourself the most. Why is that?”
“Um…” Is that a trick question? “Because I have a smart mouth and most people say I’m bratty.” He should add snark and sarcasm as additional languages. Maybe that would beef up his resume.
“I’m not arguing that point,” Matt said with a ghost of a smile. “But it’s obvious you do it with a bit of…spite. So I’m wondering if it’s truly part of your nature or if you do it only because people expect you to.”
Dylan shrugged, not really liking the serious shift in the conversation. He didn’t know how to do this emotional chitchat crap, and Matt was in a sensitive state of mind after everything that had happened. He returned his attention to the book and flicked the edge of the pages against his fingertip, trying to busy himself.
“You’re not alone, Dylan.”
Dylan slammed his book shut. “Try telling that to all the nonexistent people standing around me.” He bit back his usual defensiveness. He saw something flash in Matt’s expression, but couldn’t peg exactly what it was. But he guessed Matt wanted to be his savior. Maybe it was his nature, and Dylan was probably wrong considering his track record with people, but he couldn’t help the feeling tugging at the back of his mind that this determination stemmed from what had happened to the other guys. “You didn’t fail, Matt.”
“What?”
“With the guys. The knife in the room. That wasn’t your failure. It was their choice.”
Matt frowned and ducked his head. He set his glass of lemonade on the ground beside the bench and clasped his hands together, taking a deep breath. “I could have guided them better.” Matt winced, probably realizing he had voiced that thought. “Robbie was at his father’s house for the weekend. Neil told the police that Robbie had mentioned his father would hit him when drunk. The knife was for protection. I should have—”
“Stop it,” Dylan said, with a little more force than he had intended. “How were you supposed to know something Neil told the police after the fact? Robbie didn’t share it with you, he shared it with Neil, and unless you’re a psychic, how the hell were you supposed to know that was happening?” Dylan shook his head. His people-meter might suck, but his logic-detector was fully functional. “You’re just like Sam. Not everyone wants to be saved. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s part of life.”
Matt cocked his head. “Is that your story?”
“I don’t need saving.”
“No, you don’t. You’re obviously resilient as hell.” Matt turned on the bench seat to face him. “But don’t plan your future because of things in your past. Learn from them and consider them life lessons.”
“You should listen to your own wisdom. Don’t beat yourself up because the guys screwed up. That’s on them, not you. Consider it…a life lesson,” Dylan finished with a flourish of his hand and a raised eyebrow. “You offer more help than most, and if people don’t want to take it, then it’s on them.”
“Touché,” Matt said with a shake of his head and a hint of a smile.

“See? Told ya. I’m bratty with a smart mouth. Top of the list of my marketable skills. Tons of companies are going to beat down your door to hire me.”
Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.

Blog Tour, 5 Heart Review & *Giveaway* – Wrecked, Shana Vanterpool

August 6, 2018 By

Title: Wrecked
Series: Charming Knights #1
(Stand-alone series)
Author: Shana Vanterpool
Genre: Upper YA
Release Date: August 2, 2018

Welcome to Charming High.
Sorry, we’re fresh out of charm …
Hallie:
I am a star.
I’m not famous, before you make that mistake.
Although, I guess I kind of am. Or I will be anyway. My future was planned long before I was born.
The definition of a star is a fixed luminous point in the night sky that is an incandescent body like the sun.
I am a star. I am fixed. I am luminous only when no one is looking. I was stuck to repeat the same night every single day.
Until I met Wreck. And he showed me how alive I could feel within my cage.
Wreck:
I am a knight.
I’m not a knight in shining armor, before you start thinking I’ll save you.
I am a knight in raging darkness.
Until I met Hallie. And she showed me how to break free of my battle-torn armor.
Wrecked is the first book in the Charming Knights series by Shana Vanterpool. An exhilarating upper YA contemporary romance series set deep in the lives of Charming High’s most beloved football team. Where the limits of good and evil are pushed, desires and dreams are twisted, and readers are immersed into the lives of people who have it all. Except their freedom…

Wrecked is the first book in the Charming Nights series by one of my favorite authors, Shana Vanterpool. I love her words so much that I didn’t read the synopsis before I jumped in. She writes it, I read it. This one is actually upper YA! I don’t read many YA but when I do, I want more.

Hallie feels like she lives in cage. Surrounded by gold bars, and the privileged. She wore her mask but she wasn’t like the rest of them. She wanted out when others wanted in. Her peers wanted what she had but all she wanted was to be loved. Her parents saw her as an investment. The lone heir to the Goodford Financial throne. She hated that her life was planned out before she was even born. She didn’t get to make her own choices. Who she was friends with. What car she drove. Who she loved. What she wore. And if she didn’t obey, there were consequences. She never felt she could feel free until Wreck set his eyes on her.

Wreck accepted his fate. He was getting out of here. He would survive for two reasons. One, he knew how to put up his walls and not let them in. And two, Hallie Goodford. His dark obsession. He knew he would always have her. That was the plan but he resisted until now. He couldn’t ignore the way he felt about her any longer. It had to be now or never. He had been watching her from afar and now it is time to get closer to her than ever before. Will she end up fighting him off or fighting for him in the end?

Wreck and Hallie’s relationship is complicated. Charming High, the town surrounding it, and the people who own it are not your average Joe’s. They are some of the wealthiest people in the world. The ones with power and influence. So imagine growing up in that world. You have to grow up fast. So, Wreck and Hallie may be eighteen but they have seen things that others never will. It’s like living in a bad soap opera. The family dramas. The greedy assholes. The crude businessmen and women. They don’t want to be like them. They want to be free, alive, and not their parents. But, can they do that if they fall in love with each other? Two heirs of two thrones.

I was addicted to this story from the very beginning. I might be thirty-seven but I am a fan of teen drama. Yes, I watched Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and Riverdale and loved it. Teen drama is full of angst but then add in the wealth and privilege and it’s extra. Everything. It’s always intrigued me. So, this story. It got me. The way Wreck could go from star football player/king of the school to openly romantic on a dime was fascinating and oh so fucking hot. He definitely wasn’t perfect and I loved that about him. He had his weaknesses and Hallie had hers. They also had their strengths. They are both strong characters. Protective characters.

Overall…it’s a story full of secrets, angst, love, heat, and laughter. I am very excited about the next book. These Charming Knights are something else.

P.S. I know not all wealthy teens and adults are this way.

Quotes:

This city would never see me sweat.
I was trapped, but I was still me inside of my gold bars.

Drunk Wreck was a pissy PMS’ing tween dignitary. “I’m going to change into something more comfortable. When you change your tampon, and take a Midol, come find me.”

“Secret for a secret?”

Romance author, coffee drinker, and bad boy aficionado. Every second not spent breathing is an opportunity to write and read. I live in Northern California with my family and actress dog, Halle Bella. (Just Bella when she decides to cut the crap.) Escaping with a good book is something I live for and I write so others can do the same.

Double Full:

Up and coming football hero, Colt Michaels, makes a Hail Mary pass one night in the college locker room that results in the hottest, sexiest five days of his young life. However, interference after the play has him hiding his past and burying his future in the bottom of a bottle. While Colt seems to have it all, looks can be deceiving especially when you’re trapped so far in a closet that you can’t see your way out.

Jace Montgomery single-handily built the largest all-star cheerleading gym in the world, driven by a need to forget a life-altering encounter with a handsome quarterback a decade ago. When he learns some upsetting news about his ex-lover, his heart executes a barrel roll and his carefully placed resolve tumbles down without a mat to absorb the shock. Can his island escape help him to finally let go of the past and move his life forward?
Full Disclosure:
Deputy United States Marshal Mitch Knox apprehends fugitives for a living. His calm, cool, collected attitude and devastatingly handsome good looks earn him a well-deserved bad boy reputation, both in the field and out. While away on an assignment, he blows off some steam at a notorious Dallas nightclub. Solving the case that has plagued him for months takes a sudden backseat to finding out all there is to know about the gorgeous, shy blond sitting alone at the bar.
Texas State Trooper Cody Turner dreams of being a Texas Ranger, and he’s moving up the ranks, well on his way to making it happen. But for the next two-weeks, he’s on vacation, and his plans include relaxing and helping out on his family’s farm. The last distraction he needs is a tatted-up temptation who walks into the bar and steals his baseball cap.

As Mitch’s case gains nationwide attention, how will he convince the sexy state trooper that giving him a chance won’t jeopardize his life’s plan…especially when the evil he’s tracking brings the hate directly to his doorstep, threatening more than just their careers?

Full Domain:

Honor, integrity, and loyalty are how Deputy US Marshal Kreed Sinacola lives his life. A former SEAL now employed by the Special Operations Group of the US Marshal Service, Kreed spends most of his life working covert operations…and avoiding relationships. But his boundaries blur and his convictions are put to the test when he finally comes face-to-face with the hot computer geek he’s been partnered with.

Aaron Stuart strives for one thing: justice. Young and full of idealism, his highly sought after computer skills land him a position with the National Security Agency. Aaron’s biggest hazard at his job is cramped fingers, but all that changes when he’s drawn into the middle of a dangerous federal investigation. And his attraction to his new inked up, dark-haired partner provides another kind of threat altogether. While Aaron tries desperately to place a firewall around his heart and fight his developing feelings, one misstep on his part could ultimately destroy him.

The solution isn’t as easy as solving the case, which is treacherous enough as it is. But the growing sexual attraction between them threatens to derail more than just Kreed’s personal convictions as he quickly learns temptation and matters of the heart rarely fit easily into the rules he’s lived by. Will Kreed be able to convince Aaron to open his heart and face the fact that sometimes the answers aren’t always hidden in code?

DOUBLE FULL:

This was my first M/M novel and I loved it! I was not sure if I would get into it but after just reading the first page I was hooked. It surprised the hell out of me. It was a beautiful story filled with so many emotions. Colt was the star Quarterback and Jace was a cheerleader. After they shared their feeling for each other they were forced apart, at this point I had to put the book down to recover. Fast forward 10 years….do they still having those feelings? Will they be forced apart again forever this time?

A few of my Favorite Quotes:

“Jace Montgomery was the secret he held closest to his heart for Four long years.”

“I think we should stay at the beach house too, so I don’t have to bitch slap a ho for touching you again.”

I was laughing, crying and plain pissed off while reading. I loved that it had humor and heartbreak and I am very much looking forward to reading more by Kindle Alexander.

🔹4579: Double Full Bonus:

Awe!! I read Double Full back in 2014. It actually popped my M/M cherry and I have been addicted ever since.

This bonus material is about Jace and Colt and how Jace started his cheer coaching career. Which was after they broke up and before they got back together years later. The rest is about them during and after the full length novel.

I just loved seeing them again. Getting a glimpse during their separation.

FULL DISCLOSURE

Double Full was my very first M/M book. I wasn’t sure if it was a genre that I would enjoy but decided if I was going to have a blog, I read everything to an extent. No joke…I highlighted the very first paragraph in Double Full and I was hooked. You met Mitch in Double Full for a small amount of time but that is all you need to want to know more about this sexy Man with a great sense of humor.

Mitch is a Deputy Marshal and has been working a case for the last several months. It is personal to him and he will do everything he can including using his own money to find out who is behind the murders of high and even low profile gay men across the country. He does not have time for anything else so when he is called to go to Texas on another case he is not happy but he does get to see some old friends and have a fun night out. Mitch has a swagger to him and tonight he wants to find a man to help relieve some stress. When he spots a man across the bar sitting alone and hiding behind a baseball cap, he wants him in the worst way….

Cody is a Texas State Trooper that has just been promoted and is out celebrating by himself when he notices a man coming into the bar that makes everyone look. He is sexy, tattooed and commands attention. Cody just sits back and watches him dance, he has never seen somebody so handsome in his life but feels he is totally out of his league so he just watches from afar. When this hunk of a man approaches him he is dumbfounded, there are no words and there really doesn’t need to be.

Mitch and Cody have a very intense connection from the start and even though Cody is not usually shy, he is around Mitch until that chemistry is tested. When Mitch is called and has to leave Cody just when things where getting hot, he promises to find him again. They both can not stop thinking about each-other even though they both know they can’t afford distraction right now. But when you can’t concentrate on work because of the wondering, something’s got to give and when they figure out how….he is fucking sexy as hell. What is more amazing is the way they are together even thousands of miles apart but is that enough?

Mitch is so frustrated with his case and you are right along with him. I love a great mystery so I felt I was on the case with him. But when things get even more personal he is even more determined. Can he and Cody maintain a relationship during such a big case? Can Cody concentrate on his new job and think about Mitch? Can Mitch actually be in a relationship?

I was very surprised about this book in many ways. I knew Mitch was a bad ass with humor but he really is a smart-ass in the best way! I was laughing out loud. I love Mitch…he is very blunt, lickable hot and tends to hold things in but not when it comes to Cody. I also fell for Cody since he is shy but not when he gets to the nitty-gritty. They also both need someone that understands that their jobs are time consuming and very important to them.

I love Kindle’s writing and her characters to come to life. Her books are sexy, full of suspense and emotional. I can not wait to see what she has in store next!

P.S. Mitch has the best t-shirts.

Quotes:

“Keep you fucking mouth shut,” Cocky Smith cautioned. “Or what?” Mitch chest bumped him back. If need be, he could take this guy, no problem. The poor Smith kid at the door tried his best to separate the two. It wasn’t working. “Or I’ll shut it for you.” “Like to see you try fake-n-bake.”

“Besides, I’m hoping that after tonight I can look at the case with a clear head. You’ve been on my mind too much lately. I can’t think straight.”

“So, I’ve got the spot?”

“Get in the car. I know what you’re doing. You have to be on duty tonight. Phone fuck him later, Mitch. Jobs before hos.” And Kreed honked the horn again.

🔹 11863: Full Disclosure Bonus:

Damn. That was hot! I fell hard and fast for Mitch back in 2104 and still love him now.

This bonus material is about their lives before they meet and a few years down the line afterwards. It’s fun, sexy, and adorable!

And for Aaron, he knows if he has a taste of Kreed, it won’t be enough, and because of his secrets, he can’t have more than just a casual fling.

The investigation takes a turn and puts Kreed and Aaron together, closer than ever their attraction and desire only build. Can they keep their hands and other body parts to themselves until the threat is gone? Or will the desire be too much? Will the tension cloud their judgement?

I love these two! Kreed is blunt, sexy, funny and surprisingly domestic. And Aaron is geeky sexy, funny and loves his food. Together, the chemistry is high, the banter is unreal and they find that things aren’t always what they seem. They have to trust one another with their lives and secrets can ruin everything. Will theirs?

Overall…I got hot and bothered, laughed my ass off and was sucked into the investigation. I am sad that this is the last book in the series but I know I will see these couples again, they can’t leave.

P.S. Hottest Shower Scenes Ever!!!

Quotes:

Maybe if he rubbed whipped cream and hot fudge all over his body, he could get the guy’s attention.

“You’re so fucking sexy with those fuck-me-I’m-so-smart glasses on and that intense look on your face.”

“That’s some dirty mouth you’ve got on you, church boy.”

**And I just have to put one in about Mitch.

“Do y’all buy your T-shirts at the same damn store?”

🔹 19166: Full Domain Bonus

This one had everything and everyone! Including the men of Painted on my Heart and Reservations!

This bonus material is about their careers, family, and friends. It’s also has some heat and heart.

Double Full

This is the first book of Kindle’s that I read. It is incredibly well written with the perfect balance of humor, sex, angst and love. The books get’s going right out of the gate and I was hooked before I turned the page! The story of Jace and Colt is a roller coaster of emotions and it’s worth the ride! The characters are well developed and deep and it’s an amazing story of love and loss and overcoming fear. It’s steamy and hot and sexy too! There were tears shed and I yelled a lot! Now that I’ve read this book, I’m a Kindle fan forever!

*Bonus

We get to see how Jace got his career started and what Colt was going through. We also get to see more of their life together and what happened later!

Full Disclosure

I love Kindle Alexander! She is one of my go to authors. She writes it, I read it.  Her writing is brilliant. I have read all of her books and they are all wonderful.  Full Disclosure may be the most anticipated one for me. I fell in love with Mitch in Double Full.  There was just something about his bad boy attitude and smoldering  good lucks that drew me to him.  This book has all of my favorite attributes: suspense, humor, sex, anticipation, friendship, pain, loss and love.  Mitch is still working on the cases from Double Full, trying to apprehend the person committing the acts of violence against gay men.  Mitch isn’t looking for a relationship or love, he just wants a fun night out dancing.  Then he sees Cody.  The scene where they meet in the bar is one of my favorite meet-cute scenes ever. Ever. Mitch sees Cody and he wants him. Then with in minutes of just watching Cody he more than just wants him physically. Mitch isn’t used to having these feelings so fast or even at all.  Cody is shy and unsure. Mitch is confident and arrogant. The perfect combination! Not to mention how incredibly sexy they are. Tall, built, strong. Mitch covered in tattoos, Cody the hot cowboy.  Mitch pushes and Cody pulls away. Mitch is used to getting what he wants and he’s amazing at verbalizing everything that he’s thinking.  Cody isn’t sure what he wants at first but he knows he’s attracted to Mitch. He’s not in the closet but his new job is important to him and he doesn’t want any distractions or trouble. The case that Mitch is working on takes a turn and becomes personal. He has to put all of his effort into solving it and keeping people safe.  He manages to convince Cody to speak to him and see him and we get to watch these 2 men learn to live, love and trust.   Together they are hilarious and hot! I laughed and cried, and I claim Mitch as my own!  Can these two men make it work with so many obstacles and miles separating them. Do they think the fight will be worth it?  Can they keep each other safe in the midst of the violence or will the distraction be their downfall? Do not miss this wonderful story.  Kindle, I love you!

*Bonus

I loved seeing my Mitch again and learning more about him before he met Cody and what was happening during their time together. I’ll read anything and everything about Mitch and Cody!

Full Domain

I’m actually at a loss for words. Just when I think Kindle Alexander can’t write a better, hotter, more suspenseful, emotional, meaningful book, she does. Full Domain is absolute perfection. Kreed is trying to steal my heart away from Mitch and he’s almost won. The characters in this series have all become so important to me. I care for them, worry for them and love them like no other characters I’ve read. And, it was awesome to see Colt, Jace, Mitch(MITCH!), Cody and a few others! Kreed is Mitch’s partner. We’ve met him before and I knew I was going to love him. He’s outspoken, hot, sexy, smart, protective, and sexy. Did I say sexy? When he has to partner with sexy computer hacker Aaron, who shot him down when he propositioned him in Full Disclosure, things heat up fast. Kreed has a rule about getting involved with people he works with. It confuses the end game and it’s a distraction that could be deadly. But, Aaron’s sexy hair, intelligence, nipple rings and his aloof attitude have Kreed ready to break all the rules. Aaron needs to go undercover to help close the case, Kreed has to sit by and watch and protect him. He hates just sitting on the sidelines. Will Kreed be able to keep his hands off Aaron until the case is closed, or is the sexy hacker too enticing? I loved this story. So. Hard. The writing is wonderful. Kreed and Aaron have off the charts chemistry and hilarious banter. Perfect combination of suspense, anticipation, sexiness, laugher and love. I’m going to miss these characters so much!

*Bonus

Yay! We get to see some of my favorite characters from Reservations and Painted on My Heart. We get to see more of Kreed and Aaron and learn more about their lives. Man, I miss these guys!

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

Shades is a  new standalone story by the fabulous Jaime Reese. I’m a huge fan if Jaime’s and I absolutely loved her Men of Halfway House series. Shades is a standalone mm romance and once I started it I didn’t want to put it down. Jaime always delivers the good with her strong characters who have pasts, but somehow are optimistic about love. When they find the right man! Killian is hitman. It’s in his blood. But he’s not a soulless killer. He’s been doing this a long time. Living his life as a hitman, but he has standards. There are things he just won’t do. He has resigned himself to being alone without someone to share his life with. Until he meets Nick. His sexy waiter who brings him back to the same restaurant over and over. Nick sees what everyone else sees when they look at Killian. A man who intimidates people just by breathing. He’s tall, dark and dangerously handsome but Nick isn’t afraid of him. When their paths cross again one fateful night, they find out they only have each other to depend on. Someone’s coming and they have to trust each other to make it out the other side. Together. Can Killian keep his promise to protect Nick? Now that he has him, he’s not going to lose him. Will Nick use his instincts to fight for what he wants? I loved this story! It has everything I love in a book, sexy characters, humor, suspense, angst, lust and love. I instantly fell for Killian. He’s broody and stoic. But there’s a softie who lives inside him. Nick is guarded but is trying to live life to its fullest. He smiles and talks more than Killian, but he’s deep and smart also. They are yin and yang. Dark and Light. Overall, I laughed, teared up, had to fan myself and loved every word!

“I’m not going anywhere without you.”

“Promise?”

“Yes.”

“That’s my favorite fucking word in the entire English language.”

“I would have figured ‘fuck’ was your favorite.”

“Only if you’re involved.”

“Hitmen need love too.”

“Stop calling me that.”

Sandra's Review

Shades is a standalone novel. I love Jaime’s Men of Halfway House series so I will always look forward to her new books. She mentioned Shades is darker than her other books, and that got me excited. I love books with Hearts and flowers but I also crave books with a darker side. A dangerous and twisted side. This one is dangerous and I loved every minute of it.
Killian was born into this life. A life of a hitman. Along the way he changes the rules. He only killed villains. That doesn’t mean he thinks he is a good guy. He is dark. Lonely. Untrusting. He doesn’t see in color. His life is in black and white until he sees him. A man moving in and out of tables in a restaurant with ease through the tension. He makes him see one color at a time. He didn’t do routine but he couldn’t stop going to that restaurant to see him. A man who wasn’t scared of him. A man who even made him smile. But, he also knew he was a man who deserves more than what he could give him. Nick was a man who could change everything.
Nick was intrigued by Ian. Everyone else feared him. He didn’t. His had his secrets. His own darkness under his light. Maybe that was why he didn’t fear Ian but wanted more from him. Even though he knew they couldn’t have anything more than stolen glances and small talk within the restaurant. He wished his life was different. That he could have a regular life. But that changed two years ago. Now his life was about living day by day. No future in sight. But, it seems someone else has other plans.
I can’t really get into much more of the story without spoiling anything. I will say that once I opened the book, I did not want to put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. Had to know if Killian and Nick would find what they weren’t even looking for.
Overall…It’s full of suspense, secrets, fate, love, laughter, and sexiness.
Quotes:
“Hitmen need love too.”
“I like him,” Dex said.
“Me too.”
“He makes you smile. I want to keep him.”
“He’s not a puppy.”
“Shut up.” Dex leaned over and bumped his shoulder. “You know you want to keep him too.”
“Have I made the strong and scary Killian Marks blush?”

Release Blitz & 5 Heart Review – Hard Love, Shana Vanterpool

May 24, 2018 By

Title: Hard Love
Series: Guns & Ink
Author: Shana Vanterpool
Genre: N/A Contemporary Romance Standalone
Release Date: May 22, 2018
When two people in pain collide, there is something intoxicating about drowning in the chaos of hard love.
Brando Hawkins is a detective with the Denver Police Department. The world should be his to take. He’s a dedicated officer with a promising career. But Brando’s got secrets. Dark, ruthless secrets. At twenty-six, he’s burned-out, and the sight of another body, one more unhappy ending, might just do him in.

Catherine Abbott is a woman who wars with her demons and guards her heart. Immersed in a world where people ink their lives on their skin, Catherine trusts only that which she can see. And, as a rape survivor, she finds comfort in control.

But Brando’s demons start to tangle with hers. They’re dangerous, like hers. But they’re beautiful too.

A spray of bullets brings them together, and the pain of their pasts collide with the lure of their futures. Cat wants to mend his heart and his wounds, but Brando’s secrets lay tucked away in a vault so tightly sealed, she can’t get through.

Everything around them is covered in the confusion of love and the burn of revenge, but no one ever said love was easy.

Hard Love is the next standalone installment in the Guns & Ink series by Shana Vanterpool, a world of tattoos, love, and redemption from Swoon Romance.

Hard Love is the second book in the Guns & Ink series By one of my favorite authors, Shana Vanterpool. She is the queen of writing about cracked by not broken characters. Characters in pain. Flawed characters. Her writing is nothing short of poetic. This story can be read as a standalone but if you read Mad Love then you have already met Cat and Brando. Tattoo artist and detective. Two unlikely souls who want each other.
Brando, and Catherine both have painful pasts. It has made them hard. Brando hides his scars from everyone but she sees them and wants to know more about them. The ones under his skin and in his heart. She knew it was not a good idea. That he would do nothing but hurt her. She knew that she would fall for him. She knew it the first time she saw him and months apart didn’t change that. He was everything she wanted, and everything she couldn’t have. Not only was he far away in distance but he was also far away from letting anyone in.
Brando saw through her. Because she is like him except she beautifully sexy with a wicked tongue. He wanted her. Bad. But he knew she deserved better than a broken man who had no business falling in love. With anyone. He wished life was different. He was tired of hiding and when he forced to let his guard down, things get complicated.
I don’t want to spoil anything but I will say that the story is beautiful, sexy, heartbreaking, sweet, dangerous, and funny. I loved these characters in Mad Love but fell hard for them in their story. Their magical, wild, and tattooed loving story.
Overall…it kicked ass! The characters. The story. The pain. The love. The tattoos. The magic. It gave me all the feels!! I can’t wait to read the next one!
Quotes:
I would rather want from afar, than yearn from inside forever.
“I want you. More than I’ve ever wanted anyone. But I don’t know how to make it last. I don’t know how not to turn you into a painful memory.”
His eyes slid closed and his breathing deepened. “I want to be your painful memory.”
“Damn it, Cat. Is there any chance you’ll ever learn to do what you’re told?”
I blinked.
“Yeah, probably not,” he grunted.

Blog Tour & Review – Anonymous, L.P Dover

May 4, 2018 By

Title: ANONYMOUS
Author: L.P. Dover
Genre: Romantic Suspense Standalone
Release Date: April 23, 2018
Cover Designer: Regina Wamba
Every person has a story to tell. Some may be sweet with a happily ever after, but there are others that end in tragedy. Mine has yet to be finished.

My name is Elizabeth Kingston and this is where my story begins.

I never thought my life could be so perfect. I have an amazing job owning my own bakery, and a wonderful husband who I love and who loves me back. Never once did I have to worry about anything, at least, not until the texts started coming in. They always begin the same way … numbers that spell my nickname when read upside down.

31773

It’s someone from my past, only they won’t to tell me who they are, but that by talking to them, I’ll figure it out. It’s a game I refuse to play. Unfortunately, I’m left with no choice when things begin to take a dangerous turn.

His name is Anonymous and there’s only one thing he wants … ME.

Anonymous is a suspenseful standalone that had kept me on my toes from the very beginning. I have read many of L.P Dover’s book and I must say that this might just be my favorite! It just had a different feel to it. I will try to keep this short so I don’t spoil anything.
Ellie’s life is as close to perfect as it could get. She is married to a romantic alpha who would do anything for her. She owns a bakery in town which makes her passion for baking soar. Her parents are healthy and happy. She has a sister and nieces that she adores. And a best friend who has been with her through thick and thin. Then, one day she receives a text from someone in her past.
She didn’t always have the best of luck when it came to dating. Before Jake, she dated more than one guy who could be sending her these messages. But why now? She has been with Jake for nine years. The good thing is that she has not only one alpha male in her life. She has two. Jake used to be an MMA fighter and would kill anyone who touched his wife. Owen, her best friend is an undercover agent who would gladly hunt down anyone that went after her. And Jake might call her cupcake but she is badass when she has to be. Will the three of them find the fucker before it’s too late?
Like I said, this is one of my favorite books by this kickass author. I crave suspense once in awhile and I always know I will find that in one of her books. I also know that it will be sexy, and smart. I loved that this one had a married couple! We don’t see that much so it made it unique to me.
Overall…it was a crazy, sexy, suspenseful ride!
Quotes:
“I’m ready to eat my dessert now.”
“If you only knew how wrong you are.”
A sexy chuckle escapes his lips. “Oh, I’ll definitely be up for it. The question is . . . can you handle it?”
It’s closing time and Vikki and I are busy cleaning, so we can get home. My phone beeps with an incoming text and I look down at it and growl. “You can’t be serious.” Staring back at me isn’t a text from Jake, but from Anonymous. Even though I deleted and blocked the number ninety days ago, I still recognize it.
Vikki moves closer, her eyes wide. “What’s going on?”
I show her the text.
Anonymous: 31773?
Brows furrowed, she sits back. “What does that mean?” I turn my phone upside down, so she can see that the number spells out my name. Her eyes widen. “Wow, that’s cool you can type your name with numbers.”
“But not so cool when I don’t know who the person is,” I counter. “About three months ago, I got texts from this exact same person. Whoever it is likes to play games. I’m sick of it and I want them to leave me alone.” Taking a deep breath, I type out a reply.
Me: WHO IS THIS?
Anonymous: Why all the yelling?
I roll my eyes. This is just ridiculous.
Me: I like using all caps.
Anonymous: Don’t stop on my account. So, what have you been up to? Been a while since we talked.
Me: Yeah, it’s because I blocked the number.
Anonymous: Why?
Me: BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!!!
“What is he saying?” Vikki asks. I show her the texts and her eyes widen. “So, you haven’t talked to him since you blocked the number?”
I think back to when I blocked it and if my calculations are correct, the ninety days was up yesterday. “No, but he has perfect timing. My ninety days ran up yesterday. I might need to run to the cell store and see if they can block it permanently.”
My phone beeps again and a sharp pain settles in my gut. I just want whoever it is to leave me alone.
Anonymous: That hurts. You’ve always been friendly toward me.
Me: Obviously not friendly enough, if you can’t tell me who you are. It’s weird and it makes me uncomfortable. You need to leave me the hell alone. Don’t text, call, or try to contact me in any way. I’m happily married, and I want it to stay that way. GOODBYE!
Heart racing, I log into my cell phone account and before I can block the number, another text comes through.
Anonymous: Sorry 31773 but that’s not going to happen.
The blood in my veins runs cold. Hands shaking, I block his number and my phone drops onto the table. Vikki picks it up and reads the final text, her face growing pale.
“I don’t think this person’s going away.”

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author L. P. Dover is a southern belle living in North Carolina with her husband and two beautiful girls. Before she began her literary journey she worked in periodontics, enjoying the wonderment of dental surgeries.

She loves to write, but she also loves to play tennis, go on mountain hikes and white water rafting, and has a passion for singing. Her two youngest fans expect a concert each and every night before bedtime, usually Christmas carols.

Dover has written countless novels, including her Forever Fae series, the Second Chances series, the Gloves Off series, the Armed & Dangerous series, the Royal Shifters series, the Society X series, the Circle of Justice series, and her standalone novel Love, Lies, and Deception. Her favorite genre to read and write is romantic suspense, but if she got to choose a setting in which to live, it would be with her faeries in the Land of the Fae.
