He carries a big stick. And he’s not afraid to use it.On the ice, I’m Kellan Carter, powerhouse enforcer for the Charlotte Strikers.
Off the ice, I’m just a regular guy. The last thing I want is to get mobbed by
a bunch of groupies who are only after me for my fame and money. My ideal woman
knows how to enjoy a little good, clean fun—and maybe some not-so-clean fun
too. That’s the kind of girl I’d never let go.

When Kristen Robinson, the gorgeous, down-to-earth bartender I’ve been crushing
on, agrees to let me take her out, I’m thrilled. We have an amazing night
together, culminating in the most electrifying kiss of my life—and that’s it.
Kristen tells me we can’t see each other again, but I know that kiss meant as
much to her as it did to me. What I don’t know is that Kristen
has a dangerous secret. . . .

I’ve proved to Kristen that she can trust me with her body and her heart. But
when her past comes back to haunt her, I need to prove that she can trust me
with her life. And I might have to get my hands dirty after all.

** Hard Stick is an action-packed romantic suspense. Just
to warn you, the story line does NOT center around hockey. The main character
plays but a lot of the book is set outside of the rink. **

“So what happened to Maddox? I couldn’t help but notice his
face.”
Dallas and Braeden glanced at each other and chuckled.
“Kellan fucked him up in practice,” Dallas replied.
I gasped. “Why?”
He finished off his beer, and I could tell he was feeling it
by the lazy smile. “It’s what he does. Maddox was being a dick and Kellan put a
stop to it. It’s why he’s our captain.”
“Wow, that’s craziness.”
I ran his card and held it out to him, but he grabbed on to
my hand. “You haven’t agreed to go out with him, have you?”
“Who? Kellan?” I asked. The girls gawked at me and snorted.
He nodded. “Yeah.”
“No, why?”
“Just asking,” he said with a shrug. He put his arm around
the blonde and they started for the door. “It’d be nice to get the five hundred
dollars.” They stopped and he smiled at me over his shoulder.
“What are you talking about?” I demanded.
Braeden sighed and smacked Dallas on the back of the head.
“Stop fucking with the girl.” Then he turned to me. “It was just a stupid bet.”
“Stupid?” Dallas laughed. “You put three hundred on it, so I
don’t want hear that shit.” In a drunken haze, he smiled over at me. “Just do
us a favor and don’t go out with him until after the weekend. We made a bet
that he couldn’t get you by the end of the week.”
Braeden hit him again. “What the fuck? Shut the hell up.” He
pushed Dallas out the door and they all followed him. So Kellan agreed to the
bet? That was mighty bold of him.
I could hear steps on the hardwood floor behind me. “You all
right?” Chris asked.
Turning on my heel, I smiled. “Yep.” If Kellan was trying to
win the bet, he wasn’t trying very hard. But then again, maybe five hundred
dollars was nothing compared to the money he earned. I used to make a good
living, but at least I was able to retrieve the money I had in the bank before
my supposed death. Having that money helped, especially since I didn’t make
nearly as much working at the pub. Hopefully soon I’d be back to doing what I
loved.
“Why don’t you go home? I can finish up here,” Chris
offered.
“You sure? I don’t mind staying.”
He shook his head. “Go. You do enough here as it is.”
I hurried behind the bar and grabbed my purse. “Thanks,
Chris. After all the training Aylee puts me through, I’m exhausted by nine
o’clock.”
“I can imagine.” He laughed. “I know not to mess with you
now.”
Aylee taught me many self-defense techniques and how to
fight. Before, I had no clue what to do if someone attacked me. After
everything that happened with Mitchell and Cole, I had to make sure I was ready
for anything. At least now, I wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore.
I waved goodbye to Chris and then walked out the door. The
night was cool and I breathed in the clean air; the smell of rain was near. We
needed it after the long, dry summer we had. Looking over at my car, I didn’t
realize there was a truck parked next to me with someone leaning against it. It
wasn’t just any someone, either.
“Where were you tonight?” I asked, looking straight at
Kellan’s smiling face. He had on a pair of jeans that hung low on his hips with
a snug green T-shirt that showed off his perfectly sculpted arms. Why did he have
to be so sexy? Not to mention, he had perfectly straight, white teeth, which I
thought would be a rarity among hockey players.
“So you missed me, huh?”
His smile was infectious and I caught myself smiling back.
“I wouldn’t say missed, but I was curious where you were. I saw what you did to
Maddox.”
He shrugged. “It had to be done. Maddox has a large fucking
head and needed to be brought down.”
I held up my hands. “You don’t have to explain. I, of all,
people know what kind of head he has.” It was the size of the entire country.
Chuckling, he stepped forward, his gaze roaming over my
body. “You seem different tonight. It’s not very often you smile.”
I hadn’t had a reason to, but I couldn’t tell him that.
“Maybe it’s because I know something you don’t.”
“Oh yeah? What’s that?”
“Uh, I don’t know, perhaps something about a bet?”

A Bad Motherpuckers Novel

Genre: Steamy Romantic Comedy/Hockey Romance

When the family dog trots in with my diaphragm in its mouth—in
front of my date, his parents, and his adorable little girl—you would think I’d
hit rock bottom.
WRONG.
Let’s back this up a sec…
Brendan Daniels is the sexiest man alive. The captain of the
Badger’s NHL team is also clever, kind, funny, and was my good friend…until we
cruised out of the friend zone one weekend with a red-hot fling. Come Monday
morning, I wanted to keep riding the Big O train to happy town, but Brendan
wanted someone who was “stepmom” material.
A.K.A, not me, apparently.
The problem? I’m crazy in love with him and his daughter. So when
he asks me to be his pretend girlfriend for a long weekend with his former
in-laws, I say yes. We’re still friends, after all, and friends don’t let
friends fake it alone.
***
Laura Collins is the last woman I should be thinking about taking
in the back seat of my car, in the woods behind my in-laws’ house, or in a
hotel room where we’re sharing one very small, very squeaky bed.
I need a steady, stable influence for my daughter, not a fling
with this too wild, too young, too impulsive red head. So what if she’s
beautiful and intense and passionate and has the biggest heart I’ve ever known?
I don’t want to fall in love. I really don’t. The whole “pretend
girlfriend” thing was supposed to solve my problems, buy me a little more time.
But when it comes to Laura?

Hell,
maybe I’m just not cut out for faking it.

Kara's Review

5 Stars

Sexy Motherpucker is a Bad Motherpuckers novel. It’s a standalone, but we met the characters in Hot as Puck, and if you haven’t read that you need to stop what you are doing and go get it! Lili is one of my go-to-authors. Seriously. I would read pretty much anything she writes. Grocery list? Yes. Vacation packing list? You got it. I literally drop everything I’m doing just to start one of her books because I know I’m going to laugh so hard I cry, I’m going to get so hot and bothered, I squirm in my seat and I usually shed a tear or two. There’s always the perfect mix of angst, sexiness, humor, lust and love. I mean, what’s not to love about sexy hockey players? And especially Brendan, the sexy single father! We met Brendan and Laura in Hot as Puck. He’s a cranky veteran player with an eight year old daughter and she’s Libby’s sister and the PR rep for the team. There’s always been an attraction, but one kiss turned into a weekend in bed. Together. When it was over Brendan bailed and left Laura with a fractured heart. But, she’s strong and capable and she can do friends. So when Brendan asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend for the weekend, she’s not the only one who’s tested. Brendan can’t stop wanting her. He has his reasons for walking away and now he’s regretting it. Big time. Can he convince Laura to take chance on him? On his daughter, Chloe? I loved this story! The witty, sexy banter is everything. I literally had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard and I pretty much smiled the entire book. I’ve said it before, but Lili just knows when I need her books in my life!

She tastes like secrets whispered beneath the covers, and spices I don’t know the names for, and places I’ve never been but really, really want to visit.

“Sorry, I was thinking about how good you look in just jeans. Why do you ever wear a shirt? It’s really a sin to cover all that up, Daniels.”

“Well, sometimes I get cold,” I say, with a laugh. “And game time would be awkward half-dressed. I doubt the competition would take me seriously.”

Danger: Do Not Look Directly into These Dreamy Blue Eyes for Too Long or You Will Forget That I am Off-Limits, Not Interested in Romance, and Also Irritating as Fucking Hell.

Sexy Motherpucker is the second book in the Bad Motherpuckers series by one of my favorite authors. I know when I open a Book by Lili Valente, I will be in for a ride. It could be a sexy and light ride, a filthy twisted dark ride or something in between. This series has the perfect blend of sexy, fun, and filthy talk. If you read Hot as Puck then you might remember the cranky but sexy single dad Libby’s older sister Lauren. I knew something was brewing between these two…

Brendan and Laura had one wild weekend together full of orgasms, talks, and long walks on the beach. Then it was over. Brendan walked away. He wasn’t ready for what he knew Laura wanted and needed. A relationship. It wasn’t just him he had to think about. He had to think about his daughter Chloe too. He lost his wife three years ago and since then it’s only been him and Chloe. After his weekend with Laura he was scared. Scared of what could be. Also scared of what could happen if it didn’t work out. So they went back to being friends. Awkward friends but still friends. And then he asks her for a huge favor. One that could change everything. To be his fake girlfriend. For one weekend. But he also has other plans…

Laura was already halfway in love with the cranky, sexy, father of her favorite little girl when he asked for this ridiculous favor. She knew it was going to be weird. But they are friends and she would do anything for him and Chloe. Even if he breaks her heart all over again. It’s been four months since the first time around but it’s still fresh especially when they see each other almost daily and she looks into Chloe’s eyes. Ones like her daddy’s. If she is going to get through this weekend, then she has to give a performance of a lifetime. To act like a perfect girlfriend while also acting like she is over him. It’s only a few nights, how hard can it be? Very, very difficult especially when Brendan has plans of torturing her with his sexiness, sweetness, and mixed signals. Can they get on the same page before it’s too late?

I love Brendan, Laura, and Chloe! Brendan and Laura might have some obstacles to conquer but one thing is for sure…they both love Chloe like crazy! She is not a girl to be in the background. She is full of energy, sassiness, and road-trip bingo. She is one of my favorite little ones. And Brendan is one amazing single dad to her. They have fun but he will put the hammer down when he needs to. Anyway…back to this whole love thing. Brendan and Lauren’s chemistry is both beautiful and beyond hot. Their banter is fun. And the connection between all three of them is magical. Even if Brendan has a big butt (Inside the book humor).

Overall…Lili scored another goal with this one! It’s beautiful, hot as hell, and funny as fuck. It’s the perfect blend really. A wonderful addition to the series. I can’t wait for the next book.

Quotes:

There it is again—that loving, devoted daddy side of Brendan that makes my ovaries explode. I am helpless against it.

“Because I believe in pursuing excellence in all things,” I say, biting my lip as his grip on my wrists tightens. “Or at least all the things that matter.”

“I’m not ready to be this close to your parents.”

Ellie Pagan has a list of reasons to stay away from Ford
Landry.
It’s a mile long and was so much easier to stick to when he
was a world away. Now that he’s standing in front of her—body hard and chiseled
from a stint in the military, suit cut to perfection, and a smirk she could
never resist—remembering all the reasons why just got a whole lot harder.
Ford gets Ellie isn’t his biggest fan. He just doesn’t care.
Standing in front of him, giving him hell, she’s even
prettier than he remembered. All he can think about is how she felt in his
arms, the taste of her kiss, the sound of her giggle in the middle of the
night. He may not know how to win her back, but he does know this: he may have
let her go once, but that’s one mistake he won’t make again.

5 Stars

Swear is the fourth book in the Landry Family series by the amazingly talented Adriana Locke. Each book can be read as a standalone since each one follows another Landry sibling. I just love this family so much. The parents are wonderful and know their family isn’t perfect but it’s theirs. Ford is one of younger brothers and this is his story…

It’s been ten years since he walked away from the only girl he ever loved. He never forgot her. The way she smiled. The way she would get dirty (not in that way….ok, maybe a little). The way she laughed. The way she made him feel. But, he still left. He had to find his way. His place in the family. And it has brought him back to Savannah and back to her. She was a surprise. And when he saw her standing there in the middle of a mess of a store. He knew he could never walk away again. He also knew that he wouldn’t let her either. The connection was still there and he knew in the moment that this was it. She was it. She was still his everything. He just needed to prove it to her.

Ellie knew it was him the moment she smelled him in the air. Even after all these years she still thought about Ford. The boy that broke her heart at eighteen. He was her future until he left. No real explanation. Just gone. She moved on with her life. Going to college. Working. And now she was home to build her business. What she didn’t move towards was finding love. She knew she was in trouble when they locked eyes. She should have kicked his ass out at the very moment but she couldn’t. He still had a hold on her and he knew it. Damn him and his sexy smirk. It was even sexier now. She couldn’t do this. Not again. She couldn’t fall for him and have him disappear. But a determined Ford is a dangerous Ford. To her heart anyway. Can she forgive him and trust that he won’t leave her again?

Ford and Ellie’s relationship is one epic second chance romance. Their story isn’t easy but their love is. He knew it. She knew it. I felt for Ellie. She didn’t want to lose herself again. She didn’t want to rush into something if it wasn’t real. She has to examine what they had before and why they still had this connection. Is it real or is it just because they were each other’s first loves? She doesn’t even know if she is ready for any kind of future with any man. Especially with one like Ford. Is it worth the risk of a shattered heart?

I loved this couple! Ford is intense, funny, sexy, protective, and oh so swoon-worthy. Something about a military man just makes me melt. And adding in that he is a family man…damn hot. Then there is Ellie. She is smart, beautiful inside and out, and is a fighter. She isn’t a pushover. That is for sure. She is stubborn but for good reason. Something she gets from her father. Together, Ford and Ellie are sexy, sweet, and remarkable. Ford has that perfect blend of alpha, sweetness, and humor. I don’t know how Ellie could have ever resisted.

Overall…it’s one of my favorites from the series. I love every moment of it. It was a fun, hot, and emotional ride. I just can’t get enough of this family. Seriously, the way they banter and love is just the best. I laughed hard. Cried more than once. And got heated in a few different ways. I can’t wait for the next book. Camilla is a puzzle I can’t to get the pieces for.

P.S. Violet is Violet and I love her for it.

Quotes:

“Do I look decent? I don’t have dirt anywhere or cookie crumbs on my shirt, right?”
“No, but check between your boobs,” she teases.
“He’s not going to be seeing between my boobs.”
“Not with that attitude.”

“Just looking at you is like foreplay,” I admit.

“You sounds like a country music song.”

“Are you saying I’m not glamorous?” I tease.

“Your sneakers with paint splattered over them are so, so glamorous, Ellie.”

He laughs, a warm, rich, captivating sound that feels like a balm to so many of my wounds. It doesn’t fix anything, obviously, but it does soothe me somehow.

“You always did have a way with words,” I joke, sighing for dramatic effect.

“You should give me a chance to show you how much better I’ve gotten with words.” He shoots me a smile so sinful I have to look away.

“I bet you have.”

“I’ve gotten better at a lot of things,” he whispers.

He searches my eyes as if he’s asking for permission and in my amped-up state, I’m not thinking clearly … because I smile. It’s a tiny fissure in my persona that he takes full advantage of.

My back suctions against the paint behind it as Ford cages me in. One foot on the outside of each of mine, a hand planted on the wall on both sides of my face. My knees wobble the slightest bit as he leans down and feathers his lips over mine.

They’re as soft as I remember and my eyes flutter closed as my chin angles towards him, wanting more. We move together effortlessly, like there hasn’t been a decade since the last time we kissed.

5 Stars

Swear is forth book in the Landry Family series. I’m loving this series so far. The Landry family is fun, loving, snarky, funny and loyal. I love the way they interact with each other and even though they can be mad, they will always love each other. We’ve met all the Landry’s and we’ve been patiently waiting for Ford’s story. Ford is the family hero who returned from the military. He seems to be the most reasonable of the bunch, but I’m not sure that’s saying much :). He loved a girl a long time ago, but he needed to find his way. Now she’s back. Ellie loved Ford ten years ago. But he just left her and town and now he’s back and he’s determined to rekindle their romance. Ford isn’t going to let Ellie get away again. He made a mistake, and he’s sorry, but leaving made him the man he is today. Stronger, better and now he knows what he wants out of life. Ellie’s heart was shattered and she can’t take another hit from Ford. If she spends time with him she knows she’s going fall in love again. Is loving Ford worth the risk? Can Ford convince Ellie that he’s not going to run this time? I loved this story! Ford is…amazing. He’s sweet, sexy, smart, knows what he wants and determined. Ellie is beautiful, sassy, and just trying to protect herself! I can’t wait for more from the Landrys.

“I say we have two choices right now.”

“What’s that?”

“We can get off this couch right now and go to dinner.”

“Or?”

“Or we can get off on this couch right now and you can be dinner.”

“You just got dirty with GI-fucking-Joe. I’m proud of you Ellie. Maybe you’re not too old to learn new tricks after all.”

Fallen Crest Forever is the last book in the Fallen Crest High series. Over the years, these characters have loved, lost, suffered, triumphed, and became family. Nothing is more heartbreaking and heartwarming than the end of your favorite characters. Tijan has written Fallen Crest Forever with love and grace. She’s given us what we’ve craved since the beginning and she’s left my heart full. Full of love for these characters. Full of hope for their futures. I laughed, cried, swooned and laughed some more. Yes, I will miss Mason, Logan, Samantha and all the others, but I’m just happy to have met them.

“I love you,” he said.

“I know. You tell me often.”

“I feel it often. I mean it every time.”

“I love you too.”

Logan got out and shut his door. “Mature? What’s that?”

I got out next to him. “I think it’s some type of STD.”

Logan barked out a laugh, then tried to quiet himself. “I suppose I’d be the one to know what it is then.”

“I know what you’re thinking. I can feel your thoughts, and I’m calling for a ceasefire. I’m tired, woman. Some of us are human.”

It’s impossible
not to smile that he remembered my drink of choice. It’s also hopeless to
pretend that the boyish grin he’s flipping me doesn’t melt away some of the ice
around my heart.
Still, I
don’t want to play nice.
“I already
had coffee today. But thank you,” I say politely.
“No
offense, but you are kind of irritable this morning. Maybe you could use
another shot of caffeine.”
“You think
I’m irritable now? Keep it up.”
“You never
were a morning person,” he laughs. “Some things never change.”
“And some
things do,” I point out, giving him a look. “Seriously, why are you here?”
“I have
business with Violet. Remember?”
“That’s
bullshit anyway, but she’s not here. You’ll have to come back later.”
“Is that an
invitation?” he laughs.
“Did it
sound like one?” My arms cross over my chest and I’m aware it makes my boobs
look bigger. As his eyes drop and catch the top of my cleavage, his gaze burns
a trail on the ascent back up to my eyes.
Satisfaction
paints a smug look on my face and desire burns in the apex of my thighs. As
discreetly as possible, I clench my legs together to quell a bit of the ache
that’s beginning to throb under his observation.
When our
gazes meet, his is crackling. He lifts a single brow. “I damn sure hope that’s
an offer to come. If it’s not, we have a problem on our hands.”
“No, you have a problem on your hands,” I
say, shrugging. “It has nothing to do with me.”
“It could.”

Love Me in the Dark is a forbidden romance by one of the queens of them. Mia Asher is is a brilliant and poetic writer that takes her time writing a book and it’s definitely always worth the wait.
Valentina needs time to find herself again. To decide if her life over the last twelve years is really what she wants for the rest of her life. To be William’s wife. To live her life surrounded in black and white. To be with a husband that has taken care of her. That has for the most part been the perfect husband. But she misses color. Passion. And being happy without faking it. And when she meets a stranger in Paris she sees the color shine through, it’s life-altering. She knows this man can cause her to sin. She craves it even but can she betray her husband even if Sébastien makes her feel alive?
I loved everything about this book. The characters. The writing. The story. The backdrop. It is not just a romance. It’s Valentina’s journey to find herself. She loves William but a year ago things changed between them. They both feel it. That is why she needs this time. To dig deep and really figure out who she truly is. She also needs to look at all of William’s sides. Even the ones he hides behind. And then Sébastien comes into her life and it while it complicates things, she would never change it. Will he just be a dream or her future reality?
If I didn’t have such a crazy busy weekend, I would have read this novel in one sitting. It’s addictive, sexy, fun, and beautiful. The way Mia writes is mesmerizing. I hated it when I had to put the book down. But then when I picked up it, I was quickly back in Paris with Valentina. And Sébastien. Oh Sébastien…he is one filthy flirt with a sweet side. He has his own internal storm brewing and it was beautiful seeing him open up. But, he also knows that it could all be over just as quickly as it started when it comes to Valentina.
Overall…it’s amazing story about love, loss, discovery, and fate.
P.S. I love the name he gives her. And that accent. Yum.
Quotes:
Love is cruel for it makes one weak.
“I realized, maybe for the first time, what it feels like to want, to need something you cannot have.”
I wanted to taste her like a fine wine, touch her like a sin.

Release Blitz, Review & *Giveaway* – Edges of Gone, Jessica Gouin

In good times, and in bad.
In sickness, and in health.
Until death do them part…

Owen and Sloane never foresaw their vows being put to the ultimate test mere hours after declaring those sacred words.

Their lives were shred to pieces on the night of their wedding and the aftermath that followed the tragedy set those pieces ablaze. Promises of better or worse began to blur as they attempted to return to daily routines.

With a burnt and bloodstained wedding dress hidden in the basement, will Sloane be strong enough to mend the broken pieces inside of her husband?

With guilt and despair pulling Owen further into the dark corners of his mind, will he battle his demons, or surrender to them?

Sometimes when love is pulled apart, it might not fit back together as easily as it once did. Every marriage takes faith and sacrifice, but how far will these two go to save what they once had?

It seems the further these newlyweds drift from one another the harder it becomes to focus on the happy life they once envisioned.

The highly anticipated sequel of The Gone Series, Edges of Gone will have readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.

Author note: This book is NOT a standalone. It is recommended to read Six Years Gone prior.

5 Stars
Edges of Gone is the second novel in the Gone series. It can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading Six Years Gone first so you get the full experience. It’s a emotional rollercoaster with this small family. If you didn’t read Six Years Gone then I don’t want to spoil anything so I will make this short. The synopsis is amazing. Just sayin’.
Owen and Sloane were made for each other. They met through Sawyer which is Owen’s sister and Sloane’s best friend. After five years of being together, they finally had their HEA and got married in a romantic setting. It was the perfect day until it turned into their nightmare. Instead of going on their honeymoon, they were in misery. And the months that pass are no different. Their once happy relationship is full of distance, awkwardness, hurt, and secrets. Can they mend their new marriage and find happiness once again before it’s too late?
I liked Six Years Gone but for some reason I felt more for Edges of Gone. They are both emotional and wonderful stories. Their is definitely a different feel because of the storylines. Maybe I just felt more attached this time around. I felt their pain and wanted them to be happy like they once were. Speaking of characters. Sloane is such a strong force. She shows weakness but you see her strength through it. Owen. It’s a protective man that feels so much. I loved this little family that also includes a few more. I am not sure what is next in the series but I am looking forward to it.
Overall…it’s full of emotions. It’s not just about Owen and Sloane but about family, loss, love, forgiveness, and fate.
Quotes:
It did rain that afternoon, except drops of water didn’t fall from the sky, but rather the ashes of what used to be my life.
“You don’t know what kind of person I am anymore.”
The grasp Immy has on my arm tightens, nails practically digging into my arm. “How the hell do you know that delicious police officer, and can you please get him to handcuff me?”

Jessica Gouin hates talking about Jessica Gouin. Especially in the third person.

I’m a fairly normal Canadian from Windsor, Ontario where I live with my husband, two children, and our pug, Jax.

When I’m not in family mode, I’m writing. Words are my stress reliever. I have a tendency to get a bit anxious when I’m not creating an escape path for the characters’ voices inside my head. In my down time (which is rarer that I would like), I love getting lost in a great book. The stories I read vary as I try to read different types of genres, but I always come back to those teenage life lessons and epic love stories. Aside from the literary world, I appreciate summer storms, a good laugh, strong coffee, sleeping in, and anything with chocolate. I cannot stand unnecessarily mean people, heights, and centipedes.

It genuinely makes me ecstatic when I receive a new like on my Facebook page, or when someone reaches out to say they liked my books. So, thank you for stalking me because I love it!

There are so many great books, and authors, in the world which makes it difficult to keep track of new releases or any other important info. If you don’t want to miss updates from me, subscribe to my mailing list found on my Author FB page or my website.

Kara's Review

5 Stars

Fallen Crest Home is the sixth book in the Fallen Crest High series. I haven’t had the pleasure of reading the Fallen Crest series, but I see the appeal of these characters. They are likable, funny, fiercely loyal and loving. Tijan delivers the emotion in this installment with Sam and Mason back home. They are joined by Logan, Taylor, Nate and Matteo. I loved the interactions between characters. Not knowing all the background and history, I was intrigued by them, but never lost at all. Mason and Sam have an unbreakable bond. He’d do anything for her and she in return. Even when things seem copacetic they know there’s danger lurking around the corner. Are there new enemies or old ones? Who can they trust in Fallen Crest? I enjoyed this story! I love Logan and his sense of humor, Mason a Samantha have that perfect love.

This. Him. Us.

This would always be where life made sense.

PROLOGUE

MASON

He was coming right, so I shifted, blocked his punch, and rounded with my own. My fist hit the side of his eye, and he doubled over. There was a crowd around us, but I couldn’t hear them. They didn’t exist to me. It was this guy. This was Sebastian’s crowd. They wanted a fight. They got one, and this lackey would be the third guy I took down. It was a matter of moments before he gave in. He bent over, drawing in ragged breaths, and his hand raised to his head. He was checking out how much blood was there, and then the yells started to filter through my haze.

Get up!”

“Let’s go!”

They’d been screaming like that for the last hour. It never mattered. Each one of Sebastian’s guys would get up, and I’d hit them back down. When one was knocked out, another would step in, and I’d fight him like the others—quick, painful, and without thought.

I hadn’t fought in so long, but this felt good, finally being able to release the demons. Sebastian wanted to destroy my friendship with Nate. That failed. Nate left their fraternity instead, and they went after me. Their hit-and-run got Marissa instead. She wasn’t innocent in some things, but she was an innocent of this war. And Sebastian won that battle.

He got to Marissa.

I didn’t know what was promised or what was threatened, but she testified that she didn’t remember anyone else being there. It was only me, her, and the speeding truck that came out of nowhere. The security cameras went missing. The only evidence I had on Sebastian was Nate’s recording where he admitted that they didn’t mean to hit the girl, but it wasn’t enough to condemn their futures. The university didn’t want a criminal case, so the fraternity was banned. Each individual member could attend Cain University, but not within their fraternity. That was it, though.

My revenge was simple. I burnt their house down.

They tried to get me expelled, but no evidence was found. They couldn’t pin that on me. Months passed in tension. I knew they were going to fight back, but I was given a break—until tonight.

They were waiting for me after my last training session.

A third one came from the left at me. I bent down, swept an arm out, hooking him around the legs. I tossed him over my back, flipping him in the air. His back hit the ground, and he stared up at me, blinking in shock. I didn’t give him time to think. My leg was up, and I brought it down. He twisted to the side, but I still clipped him in the head. It was enough to make him slow his attack. He rolled to the side and lay there, shaking his head clear.

A fourth was charging toward me.

I stood my ground, caught him by grabbing a fistful of his shirt, and hit him from the other side. My arm thrust out in a straight punch, connecting with him in the mouth. He stumbled backward, but a friend caught him and helped him to the background. There were more, all standing back and waiting their turn.

I took in a deep breath, my chest was tight, and my breathing labored.

This could go on forever. If they kept coming at me, they’d win. They’d wear me down. Some were surprised. Some wary. Others were just glaring with their hands closed in fists by their sides.

They were waiting for their leader, and then he came forward.

Park Sebastian.

He was clapping with an ugly smirk on his face and a gleam in his eyes. Stopping just outside of my reach, he stopped clapping. He dropped the smirk and lowered his eyes, locking his gaze on me as if he were going to charge. “Aren’t you full of surprises?”

With the back of my hand, I wiped the blood from my mouth. Sebastian watched the motion and followed as I wiped it off on my pants.

He added, “I wasn’t aware that you could fight.”

I narrowed my eyes. He’d already tried to hit me with a car, knowing it would injure me and I’d be off the team. I could’ve been off the team permanently. No more football for me. No professional career either.

I tilted my head to the side. What was he doing?

“You took my house.” He wagged a finger at me. “You took it in more ways than one. Although, in a way, you saved the university from rebuilding it.”

“They did rebuild it.”

“It’s a fucking daycare now.”

There was the Park Sebastian I knew. The cool and calm one wasn’t the right one. I wanted to face the real one. I wanted him front and center.

“What are you doing, Sebastian?”

He nodded once, clipping his head up and down to himself. “I know what you’re thinking. We could keep fighting, exhausting you, and we’d eventually win. We could do whatever we wanted to you.” He pointed to my leg. “Maybe break that.” He pointed to my arm. “Or tear the tendons in those so you can’t catch a ball anymore.” His finger moved up and down, from my head to my toes. “Or we could try it all over again. Run a truck over you, and you’d be done for. There’d be no going back, but here’s my dilemma. The university would have to step in, and at some point, they’d let the law come with them. That’s the dilemma.”

He stepped back, his hands resting on his hips. “I don’t want to go to prison because of you. Checkmate. You won. The fraternity is gone, literally in all ways. We’re not allowed to function as a house of brothers anymore, but in our hearts, we still are. The other chapters know that, so even though we’re not officially recognized as fraternity brothers, we still are. Outside of the university, outside of all the universities, we’re still brothers.” He tapped where his heart was. “You couldn’t take this from us, but this is what I’m going to take from you.”

Time slowed.

I knew. I’d always known.

Sam was sent to Boston. I wanted her to get away from Cain University, away from me, and even away from Logan in Fallen Crest. In some way of thinking, I’d thought that the farther away she was, the safer she would be.

His lips began to form her name, and I knew all that was for nothing. He was still going after her, and she would be at Cain University next year, coming right into the lion’s den. I was delivering her to him.

His words were low and gravelly. I heard them through my alarm. A storm was going off in me, but his words penetrated me as he said, “I’m going to take your heart away.”

No.

That damn smirk coming back to him, he added, “And you won’t be able to stop me because she’s not going to let you. That’s going to be the best thing about it. You won’t be able to do a damn thing about it, and the way I’m going to do it, she’ll come right to me. I’m going to savor that day when she walks from you to me, and after I’ve taken your heart out, I’m going to take hers. I’m going to hurt her in a way so that she’ll never be the same. I’m going to rip her soul from her body.”

I snapped. One step took me to him, and before he realized what I was doing, I grabbed him and threw him down. I was on him, raining punch after punch, until his guys tore me from his body. They had to lift me off him, and even then, I kept going back for more.

I wanted to rip his insides out, but as I was trying to hurt him, I knew it wouldn’t matter.

He was going after Sam.
