Book Blurb:

As a hitman for hire, Percivale is no stranger to violence.
From the moment he saw Blossom Jaymes through the window of her bakery, he knew he was in too deep. Not only was she as sweet as her perfectly crafted treats, but she was a soft-spoken, golden-haired angel that shone like a bright beacon in his dark world. And Percivale didn’t deal in angels. He dealt in death and crime. The even bigger issue? Percivale’s next hit is on said sweet little baker who doesn’t seem to realize how much danger lurks around her with each passing day.
If he doesn’t get the job done, who will?

When Percivale has to decide what’s more important to him—the life of a woman who may very well be innocent or getting his revenge on the men who murdered his family—the lines become blurred. Morals are twisted and a deathly chase ensues that can only result in one thing—Blossom buried six feet under.
Or can it?
Can Percivale let his lust for revenge go in order to save Blossom from the bounty on her head, or will the power she unknowingly holds over him be what gets her killed?

Sandra's Review

Love and Lingerie is the second book in the Rockland Falls series by one of my favorite authors, the talented, Lacey Black. I have read every single word this woman and written and have loved them all. You can read each book in the series as standalone but I do recommend reading Love and Pancakes so you can get all the goodness.
Fourteen years. That is how long it’s been since Harper and Latham have been in the same room. Hell, even in the same town. After Graduation, he went went straight to Boot Camp and has served in the Army ever since. As for Harper, she went to NYC and worked as a model. It didn’t last long and before she knew it, she was opening her own lingerie shop in downtown Rockland Falls. Her plan was to expand her business. His plan was to expand his family’s. The business he came back to take over. You see where this is going right? Oh yeah…it’s going there.
You see, Harper and Latham have history. She hates him. He hates her. Except, as you know there is a fine line between love and hate. Or lust. Because…damn, the sexual tension between these two is definitely full of lust. I could feel every time they were in the room together. It was all fire and ice between them.
I don’t want to spoil anything but I will say that I laughed so fucking hard. Harper is sassy, strong, and does not put up with his shit. She calls him out on everything. And he does the same. Their banter is full of heat, heart, and hilariousness. They know exactly how to push each other’s buttons. In. The. Best. Ways! Are any of those ways going to get them closer to their dreams of expanding their business? Only one could win the bid for the building between them.
Overall…it’s the most hilarious book to date that I have read by Lacey. Omg! I am going to be laughing about some of the scenes for the next few days. I know it. But, for real. It’s more than funny. It is sexy as sin and sweet as chocolate cake.
Quotes:
When she finally glances my way, an evil glare on her beautiful face, I offer her a smirk and a wink. Nothing gets Harper’s blood boiling like that deadly combination of male ego.
Beautiful, sassy Harper, with skin so soft it’s like touching pure silk and a smile so captivating that it kept me company many nights in foreign countries over the last decade and a half.
“Are you trying out for a music video? That’s pretty badass, Latham.”
“See something you like?”
“I see something I’d love to chop off with a plastic knife,” I growl, finally returning my eyes to his.

Love and Lingerie is the second book in the Rockland Falls series by the fabulous and talented Lacey Black. Lacey is one of my favorite small town romance authors. She constantly delivers all the goods. The love, the laughter, the sexiness, the family. Did I say the laughter? We met Harper in Love and Pancakes and I knew her story was going to be awesome! She’s feisty, stubborn, sexy and any man attempting to tame her has his work cut out for him. Enter Latham Douglas. Sexy, handsome and annoying. She hates him. They have a history, one she really tries to forget but just can’t. And guess what? He’s back in town and taking over his dad’s hardware shop next store to her lingerie store. Great. First he helps her with her computer, then he’s pranking her and she’s giving back as good as she gets. Then he’s helping her out of her lingerie and into his bed. They are both keeping a secret, while pretending to still hate each other but actually falling hard and fast for one another. What happens when the lies come out? Will their rekindled love be able to handle it? Can these two stubborn, vindictive, hilarious and sexy neighbors make it out the other side? Wow! I loved this story! Harper is so funny and sassy! Latham is handsome and isn’t afraid to tell Harper how he feels about her. When it’s confession time, he’s all in and swoon! The pranks were effing hilarious! Tears were streaming down my face from laughing! Overall, I laughed, cried, had to fan myself and laughed some more!

“Stop ogling me. I feel so violated,” he says, throwing me a cocky smile.

“I believe you were begging for me to violate you last night. Or was that this morning?” I tease, knowing full well it was both.

“Umm, I believe it was you who was begging for it. All three times,” he says, winking at me.

Exclusive Excerpt:

My happy puppy greets me as soon as I slip inside the house, the air conditioning a welcome reprieve from the heat outside. I bend down and give her a quick pet behind the ears before leading her to the back door. She runs off, anxious to do her business, while I head back inside to take a quick shower.

I don’t wash my hair, but shave and exfoliate all of the important areas. When I’m smooth and clean, I jump out of the shower, anxious to head over to Latham’s. I smother lotion over every square inch of my body, the rich scents of jasmine and vanilla wrapping around me. I touch up my makeup, darkening my eyes in that sultry way I used to do daily, but now save for special occasions.

Then, I head for my dresser. I already know which one I want. After spending a few minutes with Adrian and feeling the anticipation she was experiencing, I dig out my own black bustier and matching thong set. Mine is an older style, though, with deep red piping and a black lace overlay. Carefully, I snap the back and glance in the mirror. It dips dangerously low, showcasing my cleavage and pushing my breasts together magnificently. The lace thong is sexy, enticing, and bold. Perfect.

I snap the garter belt into place and roll on a pair of stockings. Then, I return to my closet and find my dark blue sundress. It’s shorter than the others and will barely hide the stockings that hit just above mid-thigh. It too will be perfect. Keeping my hair up, I retwist it into a knot, letting only a few tendrils of hair hang around my face.

Taking one last look in the mirror, I slip on my too-high strappy sandals, swipe dark gloss over my lips, and head out of my room. I make a quick pit stop at the back door and call Snuggles. She’s not too happy to be coming in from outside, but when I produce a treat from the cabinet, she hightails it out of her doghouse and trots up the back steps like her tail is on fire. It wags furiously as she sits like a good girl and shakes for her treat. After a few more minutes of showering her with affection, I fill her food and water bowls, and make sure she’s settled for the evening.

Then, I head back to my car.

It’s only a few blocks from downtown where my business is, and even though I try to keep the windows open to enjoy the early evening breeze, it’s just too hot outside, or maybe I’m a little too nervous. Too sweaty. So I roll up the windows and crank on the air. As soon as I do, I hear a poof sound, and it’s suddenly raining.

Not liquid, though.

This is sparkly particles of hell flying through the air and landing everywhere.

Everywhere.

Glitter.

So. Much. Glitter.

I stop at the stop sign, spitting the sliver sparkles from my mouth and glance around. My entire car is covered in it. My dress. My arms. My face.

Dirty rotten bastard, son of the devil asshole jerk!

He’s. So. Fucking. Dead.

Kara's Review

Like the Wind is the first book I’ve read from J. Bengtsson and I listened to the audio. Zachary Webber and Callie Dalton are fantastic, as always! Bodhi and Breeze meet under extraordinary circumstances. They are caught in a fire and he saves her and a gaggle of pets she’s taking care of. Because of the fear of death and surviving such a horrible thing together, their connection is intense and immediate. Bodhi is a pop star whose life has gotten out of control and he uses this time away to be who he wants to be. Breeze is carefree, fun and doesn’t treat him like a star. He’s just Bodhi. Together they give each other what they have been missing. And Breeze shows Bodhi who he wants to be. But once the smoke settles, can they survive the real world together? What happens when his life overshadows hers? I really enjoyed this story. I love a good audio book and really enjoyed listening to Zachary and Callie. I will definitely be adding more J. Bengtsson books to my TBR.

About J. BENGTSSON

A professional stay-at-home-mom for twenty-one years, Jill started her writing career in 2016 after reading a really bad rockstar romance. Although she had no previous writing experience and no desire to become an author, Jill was convinced she could write a better story.

And so began Cake: A Love Story. She wrote the novel for fun and added every single thing she’d ever wanted to read in a romance. Embarrassed by her newfound hobby, Jill kept her writing a secret from her family.

When the story was complete, she turned to Amazon to get the feedback she desired. Not thinking the book would ever sell, Jill planned to pull Cake off Amazon once it got a review or two but that never happened because, within a week of its release, Cake began to soar up the bestseller charts. Not only was Jill shocked by Cake’s success but now she had a whole new burgeoning career on her hands…and some explaining to do. Needless to say, the news of Jill’s secret book bay came as a complete shock to her husband and three children.

Jill is now a full-time writer.

Sandra's Review

Forgiven is the second book in the Nash Brothers series by the very talented, Carrie Aarons. It can be read as standalone but I do recommend reading Fleeting so you can get to know the brothers even more. Bowen Nash didn’t say much in Fleeting but he captured my heart so I knew his story was going to be an emotional ride.
Ten years. He has been avoiding his high school sweetheart for ten years. Every time he saw her, it was torture. He wanted to reach out to her. Touch her. Kiss her. Love her. But he couldn’t. He had to walk away after their accident. The one that almost killed her and did kill his baseball career. He has coped with the fact that he lost his chances at the major leagues but he could never forgive himself for that night. He moved on with his life in everything else except when it came to love. He had a successful business, owned a home, had his family. But, she was the only one he has ever loved. Maybe ever will. Is it time to stop avoiding her? Ten years was a long time to hold it all in.
Lily never had closure. They were in love one minute and the next he was gone. Literally. He left town. She didn’t understand the looks he gave her when she did happen to see him around town. Why did he seem to hate her so much? She couldn’t stand it. She didn’t know how much more she could take. His brother was now with her best friend. They had to be around each other. The tension was thick. Every one in town felt it. And they were waiting for it to explode. Who will break first?
I absolutely LOVED this book! I love Keaton Nash, I really do but Bowen has stolen my heart! He might have been a cocky teenager but he was also a swoon-worthy one even back then. And now he is all man. And Lily! Oh…Lily. Watching her go through some shit made me want to give her a high five and a hug. She is stronger than she thinks. Together, I loved these two! They have their obstacles and it’s beautiful to watch them jump through them.
Overall…I am so in love with this series. I. Can. Not. Wait for the next book! I have a feeling I know who is up next and hot damn, it’s going to be hot. Oh, this one was too by the way. Along with sweet and funny.
Quotes:
“I’ll say it for the thousandth time, but I hope you hear me. I don’t know what it is I did to make you hate me so much, but I’m sorry.”
The night of the crash haunts me in my dreams. It plagues my every waking moment and mocks the future I once had.
“I may not have stepped foot in here in ages, but I’ve had many fantasies about getting you between these stacks. There is something so naughty about making out in a library.”

Excerpt

“Bowen?” The way she says my name, I know I’ve been sitting here staring at her like a damn fool.

Jeez, I need to get it together. “It’s uh, whiskey. But, there has been a hell of a lot of things mixed in there tonight.”

She chuckles. “Big guy’s night out, huh?”

“Something like that.” I smile back.

We stare at each other for a minute, and I can feel both of our heads moving closer. Almost unconsciously, as if there is a string tethering our mouths together.

“Are you having fun?” She breathes.

“More now than I was before.” It’s the truth.

Lily’s eyes dilate. “Why is that?”

“I think you know why.”

How easy it is to fall back into this. A decade has passed without a word. And now … we’ve been sliding slowly down this hill of attraction since my brother’s engagement. It’s slippery and dangerous, and I’m always grappling to climb my way back up. But sitting here with her, the woman I love most in the world, it’s too good to stop. I may break when I eventually hit the ground, but if it means staring at her, speaking words I’ve kept locked up in my heart for ten years, then so be it.

“Maybe …” Lily sighs, breaking the moment. “Listen, we’re going to be around each other a lot more now. With Presley and Keaton getting married, there will be more nights than there were in the last ten years where we’ll probably run into each other. You clearly don’t want to talk about us … and I can’t understand that, but I do know that I can’t keep cutting myself down over it. Even if we’re not friends, maybe we can just … be cordial. I don’t hate you, Bowen. Not even a little. And you’ve said as much about me. Maybe we can …”

She is going to say, be friends. But we can’t. And she has no idea why. Here she is, trying to appeal to my softer side, trying to bridge a gap that I’ve caused. God, Lily is the best kind of person. Even when someone has repeatedly cut her down, she’ll still try to shake their hand and call it a truce.

It’s a good thing, for both of us, that I’m the worst kind of person.

Because I was teetering on the edge of doing something disastrously stupid, something that could damage both of our reputations. I was willing to break just to have one moment of us. But now, I have to break for her, to protect her.

“No. We aren’t friends, Lily. We’ve never been friends. Just because we have to be in the same rooms doesn’t mean we need to talk. Or even look at each other.”

The look in her eyes … it’s as if I’ve slapped her. So much shame and hurt cloud those baby blues, and I feel the knife twisting deeper into the ventricles of my heart.

“God, when is enough going to be enough?” I slam the rest of my whiskey back, psyching myself up to destroy the love of the most amazing woman in the world. “Don’t you get it? This is desperate and sad. We were over a long time ago. I don’t want you. What is going to make you understand that?”

In the middle of my total annihilation of her, her phone buzzes. She picks it up, using anything to escape from this attack.

“It’s my parents. They want to make sure I got home, say it’s too late.”

I snort, the alcohol making me especially mean tonight. “Wouldn’t want to disappoint the senator and his wife. Oh, wait, I shouldn’t use the word disappoint. The word is disobey.”

Lily’s eyes grow cold, and that’s good. It’s what I want. “You’re despicable.”

“And you’re weak. You’ve never had one thought for yourself. One thought that wasn’t put there by them.”

This asshole comment has a different effect. Her entire face fills with upset, and I’m sure she’s about to crumble.

“I have to go.” A single tear falls.

“Yeah, go do whatever mommy and daddy tell you to. It’s what you do best.”

Lily sends me one last defeated, humiliated, heartbroken look as she grabs her purse and bolts from the bar.

My own soul may be cracked in half, but my mission is accomplished.

Hopefully, I’ve done enough damage that she’ll stay away, and never discover the secret that divides us.

About J.

March 29, 2019 By

From New York Times bestselling author Jay Crownover comes DOWNFALL, a sexy, standalone contemporary romance! Check out all the stops on the tour, and grab your copy today, or read in Amazon KU!

About DOWNFALL:

Solomon Sanders doesn’t have time to fall in love. Until a stunning, skittish, single mother forces him to pause and recognize just how empty and hollow his busy life has become.

From the start, it’s been ingrained in Solo’s DNA to fight.

Fight for what he believes is right.

Fight for the people he loves.

Fight for the traces of good in a place which tends to be filled with a variety of bad.

Fight for survival, so at some point, his life will quiet down and find a normal pace.

He wasn’t ready for the impact his secretive, shy, obviously out of place new neighbor was going to have on him. And never in a million years was he prepared to fall head over heels for her and her young daughter.

Now, he’s facing the most important, and the hardest fight he’s ever fought… the battle to win Orley’s damaged heart.

Orley Vincent’s heart is full of fear, leaving no space for love. Until a big, brash, brawler of a man forces his way in and makes her realize facing her fears is the only way she can ever be free.

From the start, Orley was groomed to believe she wasn’t good enough.

She wasn’t the perfect daughter. Or student. Or girlfriend.

But, she has always been the best mother she could be to her daughter, Noble.

Keeping Noble safe has always been the one thing she was determined to do, which ironically, is how she ended up on the wrong side of the tracks, living next door to an unlikely hero. Orley’s a woman on the run. She had no idea her frantic sprint was going to land her in the tattooed arms of a man ready to teach her how to fight for herself… and for love.

Kara's Review

Downfall is Jay Crownover’s newest standalone set in The Point. If you haven’t read that series, you will not be lost, but you should read it because it’s awesome! Jay’s writing is fantastic as always and her characters quickly become friends you can’t help but care about. Solo has lived in The Point his entire life. He works hard, plays harder, takes care of his mom and protects those he cares about. He may work for and be around the dangerous men of The Point, but he’s not bad. He was raised with morals and a heart. His new neighbor is not from around here. She’s innocent and fresh and a young, single mother. She’s running from something but he can’t figure out what. Orley needed to escape her old life and take care of her daughter, Noble. She’s hiding where no one will look for her. But she’s down on her luck and every time she needs help, Solo is there to save her. He’s big, tatted up and quite scary looking, but she’s not afraid of him. She trusts him even though she’s not sure why. He makes her feel safe. Noble is instantly taken with him, I mean, his name is Solo and she’s the biggest Star Wars fan there is even if she’s only three years old! Every time Solo is with her daughter, Orley just melts. This big, strong, scary man is wrapped around Noble’s finger. He’s sweet, gentle and loving. They go from strangers to friends to much more.  Solo is the first man to make her feel safe, loved and protected. Orley showed Solo what he was missing in his life. He needs her more than air now. When her past comes back to get her, will Solo keep his promise? This story was everything! It gave me all the feels: lust, humor, sadness, suspense, love, friendship, loyalty and justice. I loved the slow dance that was Solo and Orley’s relationship. I also loved seeing other residents from The Point and being reminded why I loved them all. Jay once again shows us that just because you live in a bad place and have to do bad things to survive doesn’t make you a bad person.

“I’ve never had anyone like you in my life, Solo. You terrify me.”

“That street goes both ways, Orley. I’ve never met anyone like you.”

He was tattooed and built in a way that practically meant it was required I ogle him when he was naked. I checked him out thoroughly on behalf of all the women who would kill to be in my shoes.”

Excerpt

~ORLEY~

The nearly naked man in front of me stretched his arms over his head and I couldn’t look away from the ripple and flex of his clearly defined abs. His body was ridiculous in all the right ways. I’d never seen a man in person who looked like he did. He was like one of those irrationally, unrealistically hot Instagram guys, but one who was standing in front of me in all his muscly, sweaty glory. I knew somewhere in the back of my head he was dangerous, and I shouldn’t be so nonchalant about chatting him up, but I figured I owed him the common courtesy I bypassed the night before. One thing I had left was flawless manners.

He cocked his head to the side and asked, “If yesterday was the second worst day, how did you survive the first one?”

That wasn’t a day I ever talked about. It was the day that changed everything. The only reason I survived the day was because I had to for the little girl clutching my hand and watching the stranger with wide, curious eyes. I blew out a breath and changed the subject as quickly as possible.

“You ever have one of those days where it’s one thing after another and it feels like the universe is trying to tell you something? Trying to tell you to give up?” I shrugged before he could answer me. “My car broke down. My babysitter quit. My job cut my hours. The icing on the cake was getting attacked on the way home. Like I said, it was a bad day, but that doesn’t excuse me running off without thanking you properly. I owe you more than I can every repay.” I couldn’t think about what might have happened if he hadn’t shown up. My mind wouldn’t allow it.

He dipped his chin again. “No worries. I happened to be in the right place at the right time.” He moved to put the earbuds back in and I considered myself dismissed, but before he could block out the sound, the homeless man on the stoop roused himself into a sitting position and pointed a finger at the man looming in front of me.

“Go help the girl with her car, Solo.” His finger wavered but his voice was surprisingly clear as he issued the order.

Noble bounded up on her toes and tilted her head to the side. “Solo?” My kid was obsessed with Star Wars so there was no way she was going to miss the unusual name.

The man looked down at my daughter, and finally, a grin cracked the stern expression chiseled on his ruggedly handsome face. “Solomon. Solo is my nickname.”

Before I could stop her, she stuck out her hand for the big man to shake. I gulped when her tiny hand disappeared in his much larger one. “I’m Noble.”

He nodded at her. “That’s a pretty name.”

His head moved in my direction and I bit back a sigh. “Orley.” I tossed out my own name reluctantly. “And don’t worry about the car. We’ll figure it out. Seriously.” I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend any more time in his company. He made me feel weird and unsteady. There was a low vibration I could feel humming throughout my body standing this close to him, and I had no time for any kind of distraction.

One visit to my father in prison—convicted for a murder he didn’t commit—and I’ve attracted the attention of the last man I’d ever want knowing that I exist.

Gabriel Easton.

Son of an infamous crime boss. Pretentious liar. Merciless womanizer. A scoundrel to the core.

Worse, he has figured out how desperate I am to protect my father from brutality behind bars. He has the power to grant that protection and he has offered it … for a price.

Me.

I am to become a prisoner in his playhouse mansion, to live with him until he tires of having me around.

I’ll do anything for my father, including agree to Gabriel’s cruel game. But I won’t comply with his every whim and wish.

Not when he taunts me with that ruthless spark in his cold blue eyes.

Not when he requires that I share his bedroom at night.

Unfortunately for me, I think my loathing for him is what he’s enjoying most.

That’s fine. By the time I’m through with him, he’ll be crying my name.

~Gabriel~

I was fully prepared for two things when my eyelids peeled open this morning: one, that I’d be nursing a fucking epic hangover for most of the day after last night’s festivities, and two, that I’d be in an extra-pissy mood by the time I made it up to this shithole.

What I did not expect was to be sitting in Fulcort with a raging hard-on for some chick visiting her old man.

But there you have it.

Fuck.

I’ve been coming here once a month for the last three years to see my father and I have never laid eyes on that woman before. I’d remember. Those sharp cheekbones, that thick jet-black hair. Those fat fucking lips, the kind that were made for wrapping around my cock and sucking slowly. She’s hiding her body in baggy clothes—standard protocol, though she’s taken it to the extreme; she’s one step away from men’s sweatpants—but her arms are toned, her neck is slender and long, her olive skin looks silky soft. I’m a betting man and I’d bet there’s a tight ass and tits that sway when she’s riding hard hiding beneath all that.

I didn’t even notice her at first. I came in, settled into my dad’s usual table in the corner of the room, and started surveying all the degenerates filling the room on this fine Saturday afternoon, killing time until Dad decided to grace me with his presence.

And then I spotted her over there, her pretty brow furrowed in worry as she leaned over the table to get as close to the man as possible without setting off the guards, and I haven’t been able to peel my gaze away since.

It’s been forever and a day since a woman has stirred my blood like this.

What’s even more interesting is that she and the guy she’s visiting—her dad, maybe?—leaned in to share a few whispered words and then those big, brown eyes of hers shifted to the inmates coming in.

To my father.

With wariness, she watched him stroll all the way over, and that’s how, bingo, we’re now eye-fucking each other. At least, that’s what I’m doing.

Until I can get out of here, track her down, and switch to straight-up fucking.

Excerpt:

“What did I tell you about lurking around my place, Skinner? I don’t fucking like it.” The guy’s voice was a low growl. Intimidating without even trying. “I don’t fucking like you.”

Out of habit, I reached back and covered Noble’s ears with my hands. She wasn’t new to foul language, but I didn’t need her repeating this stranger’s garbage words, which she absolutely would at the most inopportune moment.

My eyes widened as he shook the lurker hard enough to snap his head back and forth comically. The smaller man whimpered and clutched at the hands locked on the front of his dirty coat.

“Let me go, Solo. I was just having some fun. She’s a prissy bitch. You’ve seen her walking around here like her shit don’t stink.” The pleading was wasted. The larger man was clearly unmoved.

The new arrival’s massive arms tensed and flexed as he practically threw the other man on the ground. I noticed he was dressed in nothing more than a dark t-shirt even though it was chilly outside. The short sleeves showed off more than his impressive build. In the faded street lights, I could hardly make out the designs that were inked over almost every visible inch of skin. That wasn’t an uncommon look in this neighborhood. Gang tattoos, prison tattoos, and general outsiders who called these streets home tended to rock some serious ink, but this guy’s looked more deliberate and artistic than a simple statement piece.

As soon as my attacker was back on the ground, the bigger guy stepped forward. I reflexively cringed as he lowered his big, booted foot down on the other man’s unprotected private parts. A wail of agony shrieked through the air, and I realized belatedly I should be hauling ass for my apartment, not standing around waiting to see how this brutal display of street justice played out.

I clutched Noble’s hand in mine and briskly jogged the last few yards to my apartment building. I lifted Noble over the sleeping homeless man and hustled up the five flights of stairs to our floor. The elevator had been broken since before we’d moved in, not that I would dare let either of us get trapped in a small place with anyone from this complex.

I was a panting, quaking mess when I finally slammed the door. I dropped to my knees and pulled my daughter into my arms, covering her tear-streaked face in kisses and whispering soothing words over and over again.

There was no way this could be our new normal.

But it was.

Noble deserved so much better than this.

I sighed, pushing her hair off her precious face. “You know what, sweets?” She blinked big, watery blue eyes at me and shook her head. “I think we both need cake.”

She nodded and cuddled close to me.

It wouldn’t occur to me until much later that I hadn’t bothered to shout a thank you or shown any appreciation at all to my savior. I had no clue if he was any better than the scumbag who had grabbed me, but he had at least kept my daughter safe, so I owed him, even if he was one of countless things in this forever dark place that scared the life out of me.

People didn’t help other people in this neighborhood… but he had stopped and helped me, whether his intentions were altruistic or not.

And I owed him… well… at the very least, more than a piece of cake.
