he conclusion of Echo and Kingston’s story as they backpack through Europe!

Synopsis

When Echo Kelly is invited on a backpacking trip throughout the UK, she jumps at the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, refusing to let one fleeting past exchange stop her.

At least, that’s what she’s convinced herself of, until the moment she sees him again. It’s not the one-time “run-in” she was expecting, and therefore prepared to handle.

Instead, it’s an announcement she never saw coming…he’s the tour guide.

She’s got no backup plan for that.

Kingston knew what it meant the moment Echo accepted the offer. And when he lays eyes on her, standing in his childhood home, her fate is sealed forever. There’s not a damn thing that will stop him from finally claiming what’s always been his.

Kara's Review

The Dynamic Duo strikes again! SE Hall and Angela Graham have given us the perfect conclusion to Kingston and Echo’s story. Filthy Foreign Exchange ended with Echo never hearing from Kingston again. And she’s mad, upset and heartbroken. But, she’s determined to go to Europe and backpack her way to the places she’s only dreamed of. Filthy Foreign Exchange 2 is Echo’s journey. Little does she know that Kingston is going to be leading her trip as the tour guide. Kingston isn’t the same mouthy player he appeared to be. He’s going to prove to Echo that he’s not giving up not matter what she throws at him. Echo learns a lot about herself in a short amount of time. Her new friend Natalie is a breath of fresh air whom I instantly loved! She’s a straight shooter, but a caring, smart cookie. Kingston remembers everything Echo ever shared with him. Her dreams of the Eiffel Tower, Abbey Road and things that she never imagined he would do for her. He’s sweet, loving, determined, and sexy. Echo can only push him away for so long before her heart speaks for her. Will Echo admit her feelings before the trip is over? Can Kingston convince Echo that she was wrong about him? I loved this story. It’s a journey of self-discovery, friendship, loyalty and love. I can’t wait for Sebastian’s story! Bring it on, ladies!

She’s the Paul to my John.

I’m keeping her forever.

Me: Yes! You crude, filthy bastard.  Yes. Not stop.

Kingston: Look at me.

A side-eye is all her gets, and he laughs.

Mind, he mouths with a wink.

“Need to get out of your own head and into this bed, now.” he interrupts in a growl.

Team Hall & Graham have fucking done it again! I loved Filthy Foreign Exchange and the cliffhanger about killed me but it was so worth it! It’s time for Echo to fly…

Echo has graduated High School and ready for a backpacking trip across the UK. She won’t let her experience last fall get in her way. Kingston obviously has gotten over it since she has not heard from him since her birthday many month ago. So, now this is the perfect time for her to move on. To start fresh. To have fun. To experience Europe with a group of new people. Maybe she will even form some new friendships. She was ready for it all until she sees him. Kingston. Her tour guide on her adventure. And he is determined to stay close. And not only because of her safety. To prove that he hasn’t forgotten about her…

Echo can’t do this. She wants to hate him but her heart is betraying her. And her body is being a wicked bitch too. She feels him when he is near. He still makes her weak in the knees when he whispers but she is fighting so hard against it. She doesn’t want to get hurt again. But Kingston’s mind-reading skills is at an all-time high. He knows she feels the pull but he tries so hard not to push but when he wants her to believe in him, there is no stopping him. Who will win the battle? Can Echo get Kingston to let her go? Or will Kingston break down the walls around her heart?

I devoured this book in one sitting! I loved Kingston in the first book but I fell in love with him in this one. Hard. My god…he is so fucking swoon-worthy! Echo is strong, I know this because I would have no fight in me. My little white flag would have been lifted the minute he looked at me with his sexy smirk. And that accent…damn. But really, it was such a fun, flirty, and swoon-worthy read. The added bonus for me was Natalie, Echo’s new friend and roommate. She is unfiltered, witty, and she was the perfect match for Echo. I will admit…I hope she gets a book!

Overall…I am in love with this book. It has everything. I laughed hard. Totally swooned. Gasped. Teared up. And like I said…I devoured it. I had to know what was going to happen next. And, I felt like I was traveling alongside them.

Quotes:

“She’s a bit excited. First day out of the psych ward.”

“You know exactly what—and we both know the answer is yes.”

“Ah, Love, I’ve told you many times, I have my ways.”

Excerpt

“Disappointed?” he asks with smug confidence.

“About?” I mutter too quickly…too transparently.

His deep laugh slashes through the air.

“You know exactly what—and we both know the answer is yes.”

The sexual magnetism between us is thick. He grabs me by the hips and pulls me to him, breaking the silence with a hoarse whisper.

“My sentimental, romantic Echo isn’t wearing the look of a woman who just got the kiss she’s always dreamed of—pictured a million times.

Romantic Couple Enjoying Foreplay

Excerpt

Luckily, our attention is suddenly pulled to the front of the room. Gerard holds a microphone, greeting everyone and explaining how we’ll spend the next two days exploring London and Bath before traveling to our next stop.

“We have a brilliant tour guide, who will be with you along every step of this journey. Any issues that arise, or questions you may have, should be directed his way.” Gerard turns toward the opening doors. “Please say hello to my son, Kingston Hawthorne.”

Of course his name is announced at the precise moment I take a drink. I’m not exactly shocked to see him step into the room, but I’m certainly startled.

And accordingly, I do the worst thing possible—spray a mouthful of cider onto the back of Bridget’s blouse.

“Oh my God!” She whips around, glaring at me. “Did you…?”

“I’m so, so sorry,” I mutter, wiping my mouth like the uncivilized country girl I now very much feel I am.

It’s not until I’m handing my glass off to a passing waiter that I realize the room is not only deadly silent, but all eyes are on me—including a steely gray pair that still penetrate directly into my very center.

The longer our gazes mingle, the more Kingston must sense my unease, as he chooses that moment to break our connection and regain everyone’s attention by announcing dinner is being served in another room.

I use the distraction to make my escape—where to, I don’t know, but I do know I’m suddenly in desperate need of some fresh air.

“Echo!” I hear him calling after me the moment I hit the foyer, stopping my body cold. I can’t think past the thunderous pounding of my heart.

And then I feel him at my back, his breath ghosting across my skin.

“You must be hungry. Come eat, Love.”

It’s that simple word, a term of endearment that’s anything but simple when it’s him saying it to me, that’s my undoing.

I spin around to face him and take a deliberate step back.

“Don’t call me that. Do not ever call me that again.”

I pivot again, not willing to give up my quest for the freedom of outside, when he grabs both my arms.

“It’s raining out. Please, come to dinner.”

“I’m not hungry.” I can’t look at him, a new anger unleashing within me. Why is he bothering to talk to me after all this time? I’d almost convinced myself he’d forgotten my name.

“As you wish. Shall I have someone show you where you’re staying tonight, then?”

“Yes, please.”

He starts to walk away, then stops and adds, “I won’t be far…if you need anything.”

I had a hidden life.

To everyone on the outside, I was Seth Andrews, an easy-going, fun-loving rowing coach, best friend to Colin Cassidy – the superstar quarterback of the New England Patriots, and infamous playboy.

To anyone looking in, my life was what others only dreamed of. I had the posh apartment, luxury car, and designer threads to prove it.

How long can you live your public life when the one that really makes you happy is the hidden one?

Kara's Review

The Hidden Life is a spin-off of The Perfect Life. I was extremely excited to find out that a novella was in the works because The Perfect Life was one of my favorite books of the year! I didn’t even read the synopsis to know that I had to have it so I didn’t even know what I was going to be reading about until I started. And it was amazing! If you read the The Perfect Life then you know who Seth is. Well…this is his story! His POV.

From the outside Seth has it all. But on the inside he is growing lonely and frustrated. He has to hide who he really is and that is making his life, not the life he wants it to be. He knew he would have to make sacrifices but year after year it gets harder and harder. He has two best friends and they happen to be married to each other. He has known Colin since he was seven years old and now he is an NFL star quarterback for the Patriots and his wife, Monroe is an angel in his eyes. She is selfless in life and in her career. He also knows she has to make her own sacrifices for the life she has built. If she can do it and keep going, then he could too right? But when thinking of the future, can he go on like this forever?

I know that is very vague but don’t want to spoil anything that has to do with the first book. This is Seth’s POV during the same time and for a bit afterwards. I loved knowing more about his past and what he was going through during this time. It was also awesome to see what happened to him after The Perfect Life.

Overall…I loved it! Thank you Erin for giving me more Seth. He is a sweetie.

Quotes:

I was losing my fucking mind. Having a super-duper fucking quarter-life crisis at eighteen. It was the only explanation.

“I’ll beg if I have to.”

“My friend Jack Daniels is quite the philosopher, holding all kinds of answers about the meaning of life and the ways of the heart.”

The Hidden Life available now

excerpt

It had been nearly two months since I’d seen or talked to Colin. His calls and messages continued for a couple of weeks after the night I’d stormed out, but when it became evident I wasn’t going to return them, they tapered off until there were none at all. Every day, at least once, I’d pick up my phone, click on his name in my contacts, and stare at the picture of the two of us for a few minutes, longing to hear his voice, desperate for his touch. Then, before temptation got the best of me, I’d shut it off and toss it to the side, reminding myself I deserved more. I was worth more than being somebody’s dirty little secret, no matter how much I loved him.

But now, if something had happened to him… my throat began to close as I waited for her to answer.

“He’s okay, he’s okay. Don’t freak. It’s not life-threatening, but he thinks it’s a pretty serious injury to his shoulder and arm,” she quickly clarified, as my body slumped against the wall, sliding all the way down until I was sitting on the floor.

Air flow returned to my lungs as my heart began to beat again while she went on to explain he’d dislocated his shoulder in a game of pick-up basketball with some kids. As she spoke and the fear and concern gradually dissipated, anger and resentment flared inside of me and I cut her off, bitterness dripping from my tongue.

“Monroe, I don’t mean to be rude,” which I truly didn’t, at least not to her, “but I’m not sure why you’re calling me right now. I feel really terrible this has happened, because I honestly want the absolute best for him, but something like this doesn’t concern me anymore. I told you a while back at the game that I’m moving on. I can’t continue to fall back into something I know is going nowhere, and that’s exactly where Colin and I are headed as long as he wants to continue living a lie.”

She didn’t need to know that my “moving on” was more like a “stalling out.” Monroe wouldn’t judge me for my actions, but that didn’t mean I wanted her to know I was bed-hopping my way across New England.

“But… but he’s sorry,” she contended, “and you know he lov—”

“Did he ask me to come?” I interrupted her again. “Does he want me to be by his side to support him as his lover? As his boyfriend?”

Blowing out a frustrated sigh, she answered, “No, but—”

“But nothing, Roe,” I urged, sick of her defending him. “I’m tired of being his dirty secret. I deserve more, just like you do.”

She didn’t say anything right away, and I wanted to ask if anything had come of the whole Oliver thing, but didn’t think it was the right time.

“I understand. Sorry I woke you up,” she finally whispered.

“No need to apologize, baby girl,” I assured her softly, reminding myself there was no reason to be upset with her. “If you need me, call any time. You’re still my number one girl.”

“‘Kay, I will.”

“Bye, Roe. I love you.”

“I love you, too. Bye, Seth.”

I hung up the phone, but didn’t move. Closing my eyes, I tried to clear the onslaught of emotions warring inside of me, unsure if I was doing the right thing by not going to see him. I knew I was being a dick, but dammit, I was still pissed. After agreeing to give him another chance to make things work with the two of us, we had spent a couple of amazing weeks together. I really thought we were back on track… then all to have it ripped right out from under me. How could he be so thoughtless? So self-centered?

Clinging to my anger ensured that I didn’t fall back into his arms. After over seven years, it was time I stood up for what I wanted. Things that were important to me. But I knew if I saw him, there was a good chance he’d draw me back in. My brain was no match for the needs and desires of my heart and body. Not yet at least. I needed as much time as possible to build up my defenses to resist him. Like maybe forever.

Unfortunately, forever was right around the corner.

The Hidden Life Teaser 4

excerpt

It was close to one o’clock when I pulled up at the mid-century bungalow that Colin rented, happy to see his car already in the driveway. I bounded out of the car and hurried inside, dropping my bag just inside the door as I catapulted myself toward him on the couch, where he sat playing video games, wearing only a pair of basketball shorts.

“Ugh!” he grunted, when I landed on top of him, a teasing smile playing at the corners of his mouth while he wrapped his long, brawny arms around me. “What’ve you been eating, dude? You trying to bulk up like my linemen?”

“Gotta keep up with your growing ass so you don’t crush me,” I countered, my eyes fixed on his sexy mouth, dying to taste it.

Colin smirked roguishly then rolled us to the side so I was laid out on the couch and he was suspended over me, licking his lips like a lion who’d caught his prey. My cock stirred to life.

“Crush you like this?” He released a little of his weight from his arms onto me, pressing our thick bulges together.

I nodded, anticipation blazing through my veins. “Yeah, like that.”

Lowering his face down to mine, the tips of our noses touching as our gazes locked on each other, he rasped, “I thought you liked it when I pin you down and take what I want.”

My entire body clenched at his words, desire radiating inside me from head to toe. Throbbing, pressing against my zipper, my cock was instantly rock-fucking-hard.

“Maybe,” I panted, not wanting to submit to him quite yet as I used every last ounce of willpower I had not to shamelessly roll my hips against his. “Maybe not.”

A feral growl emanated from his broad, shirtless chest as he pushed to his feet, taking me along with him, thrown effortlessly over his shoulder. Stomping his bare feet full-steam ahead across the old hardwood floors, Colin carried me to his bedroom, slammed the door behind us, and tossed me onto the bed.

“I’ll show you what maybe is like,” he warned, while stalking toward me, lust clouding the green in his eyes.

I was in heaven. I loved playful Colin.

“Maybe you will,” I goaded him, as I pulled my hoodie and undershirt over my head together and tossed them onto his floor. “Maybe you won’t.”

His shorts were off in a matter of seconds, and as soon as he reached me on the bed, my jeans and boxers were too. He crawled on top of me, forcing my head back onto the pillows, and caged me in with his perfectly chiseled, enormous naked body. I sucked in a sharp breath as our cocks met, the heat from his flesh searing mine.

“It seems like the longer we go without seeing each other, the cockier this sweet little mouth gets,” he rumbled, nibbling at my bottom lip. “Seems we may need to do something about that.”

My pulse spiked. I forgot how to breathe. My vision glossed over.

When I was with this Colin, I was on top of the world. No matter how much everyone else thought they knew him, no matter how many articles and newscasts had been centered around him, no one else knew the Colin I knew. Not his teammates. Not his coaches. Not his parents. Not even Monroe, who I knew he loved without question.

I was the only one who got to experience his passion. His intense craving to please and to be pleased. His overwhelming love. The refuge I found in the strength and security of his arms was empowering. Life-changing.

I have read a few books by Erin and even though they are so different from one another, they wow me just the same. The writing is flawless, the characters are always more than I expected, and hook me in instantly. I knew when I read the synopsis, I would love this book. I needed to know the details behind the mystery of this couple…

Monroe and Colin have the perfect life. They are soulmates. Monroe is Colin’s rock, and Colin is Monroe’s big teddy bear. Colin is an NFL Quarterback and Monroe is the director for Mending Hearts House, a home for abused children. They are the America’s Sweetheart Couple. They could do no wrong. Monroe knew her life looked perfect from the outside. That was the plan and it was working flawlessly until she met Oliver Saxton…

Oliver knew Monroe was married but their was a pull towards her that he hasn’t never felt before. She was beautiful, genuine, and funny. She got his quirkiness but he knew the attraction wouldn’t and couldn’t go anywhere. She was married to Colin Cassidy, football star. He was out of her league, and even if he wasn’t she was married. He was not the “other guy” type. He needed to find a way to work along side with Monroe to set up a new home in Boston for Mending Hearts House and head back home to Chicago where he has his own home to run. He could get through the next six-months, right? Over the next few months, their friendship and attraction is tested. And it’s a fun ride! It’s also an emotional and swoon-worthy one.

I loved this story because it was such a surprise! Everything is not what it seems. Don’t judge a book by its cover type of stuff. This book hooked me from the very first page. The characters are not perfect but are amazing! They all have to figure out if being perfect is worth the price they are paying.

Overall…I highly recommend reading it! It’s unique, beautiful, fun, suspenseful, heartbreaking, and breathtaking. I laughed, cried, and so hoped for a happy-ending for everyone involved.

P.S I loved the poems at the beginning of each chapter. Thank you Erin for another beautifully amazing book!

Quotes:

“You and me to the end, baby girl.”

You. Deserve. More.

“Go take care of what you need to do, and me and the rest of the Pink Ladies will be right here whenever you can come back. I’ll even save you some cereal.”

The Perfect Life TEASER 1

excerpt

“What is that?” Oliver scowled at the gallon of milk I’d just set in the shopping cart. “Does that stuff even come from a cow?”

Confused, I lifted the carton up in the air and skimmed over the label, thinking maybe I’d grabbed the wrong thing by mistake. Once I realized I hadn’t, I cut my eyes over at him and gave him the what-in-the-world-are-you-talking-about look. “Of course it comes from a cow,” I scoffed. “It’s fat-free, organic milk. You said you needed some for your cereal, right?”

With a snicker, he shook his head and walked around the cart, taking the milk out of my hands and placing it back in the cooler. Then, shuffling farther down the dairy section a few feet, he reached down and pulled out a gigantic plastic jug of chocolate milk. Donning a huge grin, he proudly placed the replacement milk in the cart and gave me a triumphant nod. “You can’t ruin Peanut Butter Captain Crunch with that healthy crap you picked. Chocolate milk is the only way to go. Please tell me you’ve tried it before.”

“Uhhh . . . no. I’ve never tried any kind of Captain Crunch, not with regular or chocolate milk,” I laughed. “Actually, I’ve never had any kind of cereal, unless you count granola or oatmeal.”

“What? No cereal?!” Oliver’s eyes grew wide with astonishment. “Surely you ate some when you were a kid.”

“Nope. Never.” I shook my head emphatically.

Moving back to the rear of the cart so he could push it down the aisle, he continued to gape at me in disbelief. “Really? Not even like the gross stuff like Shredded Wheat or Raisin Bran?”

“I’m serious. Not even the gross stuff.”

He stopped momentarily to add butter, sour cream, and cream cheese to the growing pile of food, and then resumed his skeptical questioning as we headed toward the bakery. “How is that even possible? I mean, even if your mom didn’t keep it in the house for whatever reason, how did you not try it when you spent the night with friends or went on vacation? Cereal is like a staple of all kids’ diets. It should probably be its own food group.”

I shrugged nonchalantly, pretending to read the nutritional facts on the back of a package of pita bread crackers while strolling next to him. “I dunno. I didn’t grow up like most kids. I didn’t stay out over at friends’ houses, and at home, we had a personal chef who did all of the shopping and cooking, so I ate what was put in front of me . . . which was always whatever my mom wanted. She was very strict and disciplined about her diet. We usually had egg whites with fresh fruit, or something similar. Then, when I went away to boarding school, I had a meal plan, so it was pretty much the same thing. I ate whatever the cafeteria was serving that day. And I can assure you, my ass is thankful it was never a bowl of sugary cereal with chocolate milk, or I’d have lived on the elliptical machine when I wasn’t studying,” I joked to hide the mixture of disappointment and embarrassment coursing through me.

Glancing up, I was surprised to find him staring so intently at me, and although I had a hard time placing the expression brewing in his fascinating eyes, there was no denying my body’s physical response to his attention. Much like the first time I met him, and several occurrences since, goose bumps prickled over my skin as warmth arose in my core. He looked at me like no one had ever looked at me before, and it was equally as unnerving as it was exhilarating. I never wanted him to stop.

“What?” I questioned in a hushed voice once I realized we’d been standing in front of the baguette stand, staring at each other for who knew how long. “Is the cereal a deal-breaker on the friendly colleague thing?”

Oliver barked out a laugh, my words obviously breaking him free of whatever train of thought he’d been lost in. “No, Rizzo.” He shook his head as he began moving forward again with the cart. “It’s not a deal-breaker, but you are aware it’s the first thing I’m making you eat when we get back to the apartment, right? I don’t care how long you’re gonna have to work out later. I promise every bite will be worth it.”

Half an hour later, as I sat at his table slurping down the remnants of my first—but definitely not last—bowl of Peanut Butter Captain Crunch with chocolate milk, I could see the I-told-you-so smile dancing in the creases next to his eyes, and once again, he was right . . . it was sooo worth it. And I was starting to think he might be too.

excerpt

I SMELLED HER before I saw her. I know . . . fucking weird. But as soon as she stepped into the foyer of the restaurant, where Allison and I were waiting for our table, I was aware of her presence, even though I couldn’t see her. She had on the same perfume she’d worn the night before at the gala. Orange blossom with a hint of vanilla. A scent that reminded me of the orange cream sodas my three sisters and I used to get when we were kids at Casey’s General Store, the place our parents would pick up pizza every Friday night. As I got older and started partying in high school, my friends and I learned those same drinks were the perfect mixers for cheap vodka, and many of our weekend nights were spent sitting around a campfire on someone’s land, sipping on that sweet, fruity concoction that somehow never caused a hangover. Back when life seemed easy and all I was interested in was having a little innocent fun. Back before everything changed.

“Monroe!” Allison’s face lit up next to me when she spotted her friend, our colleague, welcoming her with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. “I’m so glad you could make it. Oliver and I just got here.”

Still reeling from the primal reaction that Monroe’s scent alone had on me, I was thankful the two women acted like they hadn’t just seen each other the previous evening, fawning over each other’s hairstyles and outfits for several moments. It gave me a few extra seconds to get my shit together and process the fact Monroe was apparently joining us for lunch, a detail I was sure Allison had not-so-accidentally failed to mention. The foyer of the restaurant suddenly heated up, rising to temperatures that rivaled the fiery pits of Hell. The sinfully sensual fantasies I’d had about the married woman standing only a few feet away from me while I’d jacked off in the shower that morning flooded through my mind once again. Had I known I’d be sharing a meal with her mere hours later, forced to hold a conversation and not think about how I’d envisioned her naked body looking and feeling underneath mine, I’d have definitely held out until I was safely back home in Chicago the next day, nearly a thousand miles away and with no chance of a humiliating run-in.

“Hey, Oliver. It’s a pleasant surprise to see you again,” she greeted me cheerfully, though it was apparent that Allison had also neglected to inform her that our lunch would be a party of three. “And thank you again for coming last night. Having you, Jeff, and Tracie there for support meant so much to me.”

The same lyrical voice I’d pretended was moaning my name in sweet release prompted my pulse to spike along with my internal thermostat. As I pivoted around to offer a polite smile and handshake, I inconspicuously tried to rub my sweaty palms on the dark denim of my jeans while also ensuring the growing bulge in my pants was hidden behind my fly. Thank God, it was. Lifting my gaze to meet hers, the instant our eyes locked, I sucked in a deep breath and completely lost my train of thought. I froze mid-movement, my arm embarrassingly stuck reaching out between the two of us in no man’s land. Every drop of moisture that was in my mouth evaporated, and then somehow multiplied exponentially and reappeared seconds later in my armpits. Much like it had done the first time I met her.

Never in my life had a woman ever had that kind of effect on me, and after I’d shamefully indulged myself in the shower, leaving me feeling dirtier than it did clean, I’d spent several minutes staring in the mirror, berating my reflection for my inexcusable actions before convincing myself that I’d imagined Monroe to be more beautiful than she really was. I blamed the soft lighting of the ballroom, along with the classical music and bold city skyline for creating an atmosphere straight from the final scene of a romantic comedy. Her tight, low cut, sparkly blue dress was like a beacon in a sea of standard black, and with her smoky eyes and the way her hair was up, revealing that long, creamy neck, I didn’t have a chance. I mean, even I had looked pretty debonair in my designer tux with my long hair tamed into a low knot and my facial hair neatly-trimmed, and I was often mistaken for being homeless in Chicago.Okay, maybe it wasn’t that bad.

I came up with all kinds of excuses for why she’d affected me the way she did, and had I not seen her again afterward, I might’ve gone on believing she wasn’t nearly as impressive as I’d first made her out to be in my mind. But as I stood there in front of her, for the second time in as many days, in my slack-jawed, semi-aroused motionless state, I knew I’d been wrong. In her modest turquoise blouse, linen capris, and tan wedges, Monroe had left her hair down, allowing the wavy, golden locks to cascade around her shoulders and frame her fresh, youthful face, somehow appearing even more beautiful than I remembered. How that was possible, I hadn’t a clue, but there she was. The most exquisite sight I’d ever seen.
