excerpt

“Race ya there,” I snicker, darting towards the bedroom I moved our clothes into, tossing his bag into the hall.

Let the games begin.

Somehow, he beats me down to the water – imagine that. With steeled armor, I keep my face stoic, my gait and candor unfazed, as I approach, despite the urge to snicker at his bulged-out eyes and jaw dropped into the ocean.

And yeah, I noticed his hand dip below the surface to adjust himself; doesn’t always shrink in cold water it would seem.

His head jerks left, right, then back to me as his eyes narrow to accusatory slits. “What’re you thinking, Trouble? Public beach,” he sputters.

Doe-eyed innocence, my lips twist cleverly. “Not for two miles either direction it isn’t. Besides, what’s the problem?” Surely it’s not my string-thong bikini bottoms and lack of a top?

If you told anyone, even Lys who’s known me forever, they’d bet on hell freezing over twice before believing I’m capable of such audacious, brazen antics, but I’m embracing it, rejoicing in the Jocelyn he brings out. Alive; seeing clearly, smelling flowers miles away, hearing the faintest of sounds – like I just started partaking in, and enjoying, the world that’s surrounded me my whole life.

His mouth curves upward at the corner, a twinkle in his eyes reflecting off the water as he beckons me to him with the leisurely crook of his finger.

“Moi?” I mouth, pointing to myself. My whole body’s buzzing, sexy satisfaction razoring through me as he slowly nods. “Alright,” I huff in feigned inconvenience.

I walk into the water as he walks out, hoisting me up as we meet, wrapping my legs around his waist for me.

“You’ll be my end, Jocelyn Craig,” he says, almost demurely, almost a frown, heading us backward into the deeper water.

“The ending’s supposed to be the best part.” I smile, leaning in to rest my forehead on his. “Do I win the game?”

He glances down at my breasts – nipples hardened from the cool water, his tongue lazily tracing his bottom lip. “I’m afraid you just might.”

“He wants answers.
She wants freedom.

The search is over…when they Conspire.”

I have read a few books By SE Hall and now addicted but this this is the first I have read By Erin Noelle and I need to read more! I was hooked to Conspire from the very start….Graham has to find out what really happened to his brother, Devon. And to do this, he has to put his skills to work and go undercover. To get his answers he has to change his name to Bryce and do whatever it takes to be close to the people Devon was surrounded by. He notices that Devon’s roommate might just have some answers but doesn’t quite know it yet so he brings her into mix and she is a real asset. And when he goes to a job interview he has found something he did not expect….A spark and her name is Jocelyn. Jocelyn is tired of living under her Daddy’s thumb and doing whatever he wants he to do including being with an asshole of a boyfriend. She wants to be her own person and be the careful person she knows she could be and maybe even once was. She is the PR Director at her Daddy’s Pharmaceutical Company and when they have a position to fill, she decides to fill it herself, a sort of rebellion. And when she sees Bryce walk through her door, she is ready to hire him on the spot. She had never felt whatever it was she was feeling when his eyes met hers…..

Bryce has to hide his identity but he never hides his true self when it comes to Jocelyn. He was not excepting her to be so honest, witty one hell of a flirt and so much more. He has to focus on the task at hand and also connect to this woman that he feels so close to. Can he balance between getting the answers and being with Jocelyn? Will he find the truth? Can Jocelyn become her own person and go against her Father.

Bryce and Jocelyn’s chemistry is so sexy! He brings out her inner minx and she feels so alive. She knows he is hiding something but he makes sure she can trust him, fully. I love a good mystery and love story and throw in some humor, well then it’s a perfect mix. The friends in this book are so fun and supportive and I loved them. I am like a detective while I read….you can ever ask my blog partner, she knows when my wheels are turning.

Quotes:

For tomorrow, the games begin, and I don’t mean the ones someone had sloppily played on my brother. No, I mean the kind I play….and win.

However, I’m afraid this gentlemen is lost- having wandered from the GQ shoot nearby perhaps? Unless he’s applying for the starring role of my most lewd and erotic dreams, in which case , he’s hired. In fact, I may give him a raise.

When I’m with him, I can be myself – my opinions, likes or dislikes, and voice them – with no fear of harsh reprimand or insistent redirection.

AND since I loved her Best friend Alyssa, here is one from her.

“Maybe he remembered he forgot to manscape me didn’t want you to see his jungle crotch.”

Kara's Review

SE Hall is one of my go to authors. I sit patiently and wait for her to write new books. She’s an amazing writer; funny, emotional, sexy, sassy, serious. Whatever it is, she can write it. What’s even better than SE Hall? Her with a writing partner! Somehow they just meld perfectly together. That’s not always the case, so I get super excited when she writes with someone else and she and Erin together are magic! Erin has her own unique way of writing and I’ll be reading more of her books! This is a unique story of Graham who becomes Bryce to investigate his brother’s death. He stumbles upon Jocelyn and is hit with her beauty, wit and smile. He wasn’t expecting her but now he can’t stay away. He has to be Bryce. He has a mission. Jocelyn has always done what’s expected of her but she’s done with that. She wants Bryce and she plans to get him. Will she learn his secret and walk away. Can he convince her that his feeling weren’t part of his ruse. Can they work together to solve the mystery or will it tear them apart? Graham and Jocelyn have amazing chemistry. I was fanning myself then laughing. This story has it all: passion, love, loss, pain, humor and steam. Don’t miss it!

Turning around, I float off to the elevators, thinking, I’d open more than just doors for that man.

Knowing so little about her, but feeling something insistently guiding me toward her like a light, I’m leery yet hopeful of where Jocelyn will end up standing. Next to me?

“Now I’m gonna kiss ya goodbye like a man who’s known you forever.”

The minute five o’clock strikes, I rush to my truck on an immeasurable high…in a mannish and stud-like manner, of course.

Feeling surly, yet consistently, unavoidably captivated, I throw both fucks I still gave out the window.

“Be my spark, Bryce. Set me on fire.”

She giggles and kisses my lips softly. “I live here, so I’m not escaping, frowny-face. I need to use the bathroom.” She wrestles out from underneath my hold, stretching her arm to the chair beside the bed. Sitting up on the edge, she slips on a satin robe before standing.
“Why are you covering up that body, babe? I was already hard waiting to watch you go,” I tease…except not at all teasing.
“What?” She glances over her shoulder with a sassy grin. “You don’t like it?” She looks at her silky attire and runs her hands over the robe enticingly. “I’ll have you know, I’ve been told pink is my color.” Her mouth turns down subtly the second the words escape; a faraway sadness ghosting across her eyes for a fleeting second before she quickly dismisses the thought away and fakes a smile.
A surge of nausea consumes me, a shiver elicited with the chill that creeps up my spine, the unfair devil of irony dousing me in frigid shame and guilt.
It’s her—my Jocelyn—was Devon’s…fascination, his ‘I hope she feels the same.’
I just made love to the woman my little brother never even got a chance to ask on a date.

“If opposites attract, then I am nothing. Because you, you are everything.”
There’s no easy road traveled to such an intense sentiment, one I never dreamt I’d feel….
But I also never planned on Cannon Blackwell climbing aboard my tour bus.

I have read all of SE Hall’s books and they are all amazing. I’m not just saying that because she’s a talented, wonderful, sassy, take no crap, loving, caring person and author. I truly mean it. The way she has with words that draws you into her characters is like no other. No one compares. I was a steadfast Sawyer fan through the entire Evolve series and I never swayed for one second. Cannon Blackwell made me sway. Do you know how hard that is to do? To lean away from Sawyer Beckett toward any other book boyfriend? I know some you you Elite do! Anyway, I think that in itself is a glowing review for an author. Telling them that one of their readers’ Top 10 book boyfriends of all time is going to lose their slot to their new leading man. Cannon Blackwell. Sigh. I literally sigh every time I say his name.
Cannon is stranded in the middle of nowhere with a duffle bag and his guitar, when he is approached by Liz, the lead singer of a band in desperate need for a new bass player. He’s instantly drawn to her and she to him. He agrees to join them after jumping though a few hoops which had me laughing out loud! The band consists of Lizzie’s two best friends Jarrett and Rhett and her brother Conner. Cannon becomes part of the family and is bewitched by his Siren, Lizzie. He has some baggage which Lizzie has a hard time getting over, and she has ghosts in her past that make her question everything. He’s sure of himself and what he wants. He’s sexy and talented which is what drew her in. But, he’s smooth and sincere and wears his heart on his sleeve. I haven’t wanted to be a leading female character as much as I wanted to be Lizzie. I wanted to hear Cannon say those things to me. Sing to me. He’s just amazing. Period. She thinks they are moving too fast, but he’s sure it’s fate. Can he convince her? Will she let go and finally be free?
Rhett is the sensitive, brooding drummer and Jarrett is the funny, mouthy guitarist. The secondary characters are almost as loved and Lizzie and Cannon. I loved their banter and their obvious love for one another. They have a bond that can’t be broken. I laughed, cried, smiled, laughed, cried some more. I sighed a lot. I hugged my kindle when it was over wanting more. More Cannon! Oh, did I mention that SE Hall loves to add her street team members to her book? Their names or something important to them. I got a shout out in this one. Who wants to go eat at Hildebrand’s Hickory House? ME, ME, ME!!Hello miracle. The glint of the sun reflecting off the guitar slung across his back is what first snags my attention, but the favors he’s doing that pair of Levi’s is what’s keeping it.He smiles; well, his mouth does some upturning, mind-fuckery type thing. Guys may be oblivious to, well, almost everything, but you can’t tell me they don’t know what the shirtless, barefoot thing does to a woman. They know. Sneaky bastards.I mentally scratch my pseudo-balls and raise my glass, sit straighter in my chair and click the cheers. “Bring it on, penis-packers!”“What you do to me, Lizzie, your song, your smile, a look…you draw me in and I’m captivated, willing to sell my soul to know more. I can’t wait to hear what you’ll say next, what you’ll wear each day, what will make you smile and laugh. I watch the way you love and take care of Conner, Rhett and the others and all I can do is envy them, try to figure out how to get your to pour all that Lizzie love over me. Then let me give it right back.” (see what I mean? Sigh)One jump and he catches me, holding me close as I wrap my legs around his waist and dig my trembling hands through his silky hair. I kiss him like I do in every dream I’ve ever has about us – untamed, hungry, and confident – tangling our tongues in a battle of want vs. fear, need vs. brave enough to try.“You were instantly, are now and will always be, my prettiest instinct.”

This is the First Novel I have read by SE Hall and I am going to be adding all of her books to my TBR! Her writing style is amazing and right up my alley. And I can’t wait to read more of her work. When Liz and her Band who include two of her best friends are in need of a new bassist she spots her miracle in the making sitting with just a duffel bag and his guitar while they are taking a break from the road. And when Cannon was dumped on the side of the road he had no idea that it would be the best day of his life so far….Elizabeth, aka Liz, Lizzie or Bethy along with many other names given during the book is amazing! She is Independent, Strong and always taking care of everyone around her. She is definitely a Mama Bear to her older brother Conner for reasons you will find out about. Like I said, she takes care of everyone sure she has her best friends Rhett and Jerrett along with her brother and Uncle but she was still missing something….The One. She is a hard nut to crack, she could be angry, bitchy and sassy. I love her, but she needed someone to find the real her and she never would have thought that the man she saw with just a duffel bag and a guitar could be that man.

Cannon had no idea he would be on a bus full of strangers just a few hours after being dumped on the side of the road. He and the band, well most of them got along instantly. He knew from the start that Lizzie was special. He wanted to get to know her better but he had to work on that wall of hers and he would not give up.

Cannon and Lizzie are amazing! I love the way Cannon handled Lizzy and her moods. Even with all of her witchiness he could get her back to the Lizzie he knew was inside. And they are steamy! She needed to let go of her anger about the past. I can seriously write a novella about this book! I laughed, I cried, I blushed and I laughed some more. I need humor in my books and this has it. The perfect amount and some great new sayings.

I highly recommend this book. I need to make room for Cannon Blackwell on my Top Boyfriend Lists. And I also love the rest of gang and hope to see them in more books. And on a side note: Best fight in a Book Ever!

Quotes:

My dry wit isn’t for everyone, almost no one, in fact, but he’s confirmed what I’ve suspected all along…I’m funny as fuck.

“You are definitely bitchy, in the most adorable, protective way possible. But if you call yourself mundane again I will spank your delectable little ass. Twice. Until a Tomorrow. Sleep Well, my bewitching siren.”

” I will never be able to pick a favorite part of you, each more flawless and beautiful than the last. You’re absolutely perfect, Lizzy. Without a doubt, the most exquisite woman in the world, inside and out.”

“I can’t let a stranger on the bus with Bubs. What if he’s a mass murderer?” What if he’s not as pretty on the inside as he is on the outside?
“Ah, Mama Bear, run him through all the tests. You’re careful. And he might say we’re crazy and tell us to fuck off. Let’s ask before we worry about it.”
Biding my time, I chew on the inside of my cheek and look back, confirming Conner’s still tossing the Frisbee happily, Rhett watching him. “You asking or am I?” I sigh, hopefully masking the foreign tingle of anticipation working its way up my battered spine.
“He’s hetero, I can tell from here. I say we send in,” he flicks a finger back and forth between my boobs, “the big guns.”
“Don’t lick your lips!” I shove him, mouth agape. “You’re like my brother. That’s illegal in at least forty states, and gross.”
“You didn’t think it was gross when—”
“Enough.” I slap my hand over his mouth hastily. “I’ll go, but you stay right here and watch, closely. He makes a move for a weapon, dial 911 as you run to rescue me.”
“On it.” He grins at me, full of victory, a hint of his earlier teasing still lingering in his expression.
Girding my loins, I think, do women have loins and can they be girded or is that only a guy thing? Summoning my courage, I move with slow, hesitant steps in the miraculous unknown’s direction, reminding myself with each one that it’s for the boys, the band, the overall goal of staying the hell out of Sutton. And it is, but I’m kidding myself if I don’t admit I wouldn’t be this anxious if I was walking up to an ugly man. Or even a kinda good-looking man. Shallow much, Liz? Nah, I have no control over biological response.
Almost there now, his head lifts and turns at my approach, connecting eyes as sable brown as thick molasses to my own. He was tummy-turning enough far away. Up close, he’s better than photoshopped, a clear-cut case for Guinness Genetics. His lips are full, much plumper than my own, and he has a strong nose and jawline, both very masculine, the latter covered in a dark scruff. His hair is the same rich chestnut as his eyes, not too short, but definitely not too long. “Just fucked” hair (isn’t that what they call it?) be damned. He’s got “just fucked her and she had to hold on” locks, unruly in the most intricate fashion. The black boots at the end of long, thick legs are scuffed, faded jeans worn, well, and the long sleeved black thermal he’s wearing? Oh, he wears it, or rather, every muscle in his torso holds it up flawlessly.
Bottom line—he’s easy to look at.
“Are you a deranged serial killer and/or rapist?”
I like to open subtly.
“No, are you?” His timbre is deep and gravely, sending my vagina subliminal messages. Something along the lines of “yup, you want it.” With a voice like that, I’m praying he isn’t a chain smoker. To fuzz this perfect picture with the stench of an ever-present cloud of smoke would be one helluva slap in the face of the Almighty creator.
“No,” I answer too defensively, this instant, highly unusual attraction frying my staple “too cool to care” attitude that, up until right now, I’d like to think I pull off fabulously. “You any good?” I lean and point to the instrument on his back, brows bowed in questioning antagonism.
“Define good,” he deadpans, head down as he pulls the guitar off his back and puts it back in its case.
“Hendrix.”
“Not left-handed.” He shrugs as he straightens back up and captures my gaze.
“Page.”
He laughs, treating me to one seriously enlightening sound, accompanied by the sexiest blindingly white smile. “Then no, not even close to good.”
Damn, I should’ve gone with a mediocre guitarist! Now I’ve backed myself into a corner, Stranger Danger not giving me anything in the form of segue. Struggling, I shove my hands in my back pockets and rock nervously back and forth on my heels, forced to come up with another revealing yet seemingly aloof question.
“Why do you ask?” he rescues me.
“Our band.” I toss my head back toward the bus. “We need a bassist. And since you’re hitchhiking, I thought maybe—”
He drops down from his perch on the top edge of the bench and stands, well over six feet of sinister sex appeal stretching out before my eager eyes. “Do you know what a hitchhiker is?”
“What?” I shake my head to clear it and take a step back. “Yes, of course.”
“You sure about that?” He eats up the steps I’d retreated, placing his body close enough to mine that I can literally feel the battle of push and pull between us. “‘Cause where I come from, hitchhikers stand at the road, where you can see them. It increases their chances of actually landing a ride.” His left eyebrow curves up at one end and that same eye, I swear it, twinkles at me. “Seeing as how I’m sitting at the back of a desolate rest stop, I’m either the worst hitchhiker in history,” another step closer, “or you’re labeling me with the wrong tag.”

I check my phone for the tenth time. It’s almost 2 am, surely they’re asleep and I can sneak to my own bed. Sleeping with Conner isn’t as fun as you might think, unless you think being caged with a wild animal sounds like a party.
As quietly as possible, I slink out of the bed and through his door, pulling it closed; halfway there. Sending up a silent prayer I don’t meet any open, awake eyes, I turn, relieved at the lack of spectators, and scurry to my bed. After sharing my song tonight, I need some time to pass before I look them in the eyes—those lyrics, the tremor in my voice as I sang—I’m not ready for questions or commentary.
“Pssst.”
Of course I didn’t pull off the covert bed switch undetected. This bus—40 x 8 feet—might as well be a shoebox. I draw back the curtain, squinting my eyes against the dimness.
“Hey,” Cannon greets me with a whisper and grin from his bed, curtain also pulled open.
Giving him back the smile I can’t contain, I finger wave. Has he been waiting up for me? Was I secretly hoping he’d still be awake? Do I want to know either answer or what it says about me? What planet am I living on that this is now an issue?
“Here.” He scoots to the edge of his bunk and hands across…an earbud? Eyeing him curiously, I turn on my side, facing his way, and put it in my ear. “Shhh.” He puts a finger over his lips then winks and slips the other bud in his own ear, only breaking eye contact for a split second to tap the phone screen, then reconnecting in the muted light.
“Hello, Lizzie,” his voice sounds in my ear and as my eyes pop in surprise. He once again does the “shhh” thing, nodding to me to just listen. “I thought about playing you ‘You Are So Beautiful,’ but surely you already know that. This, you may not.”
There’s a brief pause, then music starts… It’s “Have a Little Faith in Me.”
I know I whimper aloud, but I force my eyes to stay on his no matter how badly I want to hide them and the building tears. Through the entire song, I stare and he stares back, mouthing the words every once in a while. With the closing notes, his voice returns.
“Not too corny, I hope. Just…think about it. Sweet dreams, Lizzie.”
Apparently picking up on the fact I’ve been rendered incapable of functioning, he reaches over and gently removes the earbud, taps the end of my nose with his fingertip, then closes my curtain for me.
I’ll have the corny with a side of corny please.

SE Hall’s New Release

Entice(Evolve #3)

Entice

Kara's Review

Entice is the perfect name for Sawyers book: Lure, tempt, seduce, attract = Sawyer.

SE Hall is amazing yet again. I’ve been a fan of Sawyer from the first time we see him in Emerge and we find out he’s tall, bad-ass looking with short hair and dark blue eyes, a killer smile and big muscles. He just stole my heart and I’ve been waiting for his story for a long time. The wait was totally worth it and this is the best book of the series for me! We’ve all grown to love smart mouthed Sawyer but we get to see inside the real man now. He’s just amazing. I literally laughed out loud through the entire book while my heart was melting. I finished the book in less than a day and I can’t wait to read it again. He sets his sights on Emmett, a girl who is a perfect match for Sawyer but she’s resists him. Their story is funny and heart warming and happy and sad and frustrating and beautiful. If I could give it 10 stars I would!

Sigh…thank you for giving me more Sawyer! I can’t wait for more!!
