Never met a male siren before?

You’re about to….

I grew up as a prince…

And lead the life of a King.

There isn’t anyone or anything that doesn’t want me, that isn’t attracted to me. They can’t help it. And I sure as hell don’t want them to. I live for their lust, I crave touch like an addiction, I make them beg on their knees for one, simple, caress.

As a male siren it’s my job to feed off emotion.

And I was happy to do it.

I am happy to do it.

What I’m not happy about? Being told I have to mate with some withering human and stay loyal to that one person for the next few centuries. There’s a war coming and being the idiot I am–I offered to take one for the team in order to help a friend.

Now my sexual appetite is taking a freaking kick in the nuts.

And I’m left wondering if it’s worth it.

If she’s worth it, with messy hair and dirty human hands.

But I have a world to save.

A job to do.

Now, if only, she would just let me do it rather than fighting me at every turn. I’ve lived lifetimes as the most irresistible being on the planet.

Only to meet my match.

With one.

Measly.

Human.

They say hells hot. They’re wrong.

Because Hope, my little human, is way hotter.

And before this is over–she may just singe me alive.

Kara's Review

Rachel Van Dyken can write anything. Anything. And, I’ll gladly read it all. The Dark Ones Saga is paranormal meets Eagle Elite. It has all the friendship, family, humor, loyalty, and sexiness we’ve grown to love from Rachel. I have to remind everyone that Alex has been my favorite from the start of the series. Alex is the sexy, funny, tortured siren. The last remaining siren. He loves being able to bend the wills of others. The be the most attractive thing around. He needs sex to survive and he enjoys the heck out of it. Until he has to take a mate. A human mate. Hope. There’s something about her, but he’s not sure what. He just knows he needs to take her as a mate for them all to survive. A crazy revelation sets off a dangerous turn of events for Alex and the others. Hope doesn’t understand what’s happening. She knows about the immortals, but she didn’t know this. She’s burning from the inside out and touching Alex is the only thing that alleviates the pleasure/pain. Alex has no problem servicing her physically, but there won’t be emotion. Or caring. Or love. Or will there? How long can Alex hang on before he either burns to death or gives into his feelings. Can Hope convince him to take a chance? I’ve been looking forward to Alex’s story for a long time and I wasn’t disappointed! It was everything I wanted it to be. Sexy, funny, mysterious, did I say sexy? Alex for the win!

“I can’t say your pretty. But I can say you’re dangerously beautiful, the type of beautiful that hits a person in layers over and over again until every sense is assaulted with everything – you. Pretty wouldn’t do a siren justice, now, would it?”

To say I was pissed.

To say I was angry

To say I was intrigued.

I couldn’t decide which emotion was going to win out, which made her all the more exciting. Sirens, for the most part, kept their physical appearance at a five. On a scale of one to ten, a five meant that you were clearly above average but not to the point that a person would literally sell a kidney and spleen in order to sleep with you.

No, the selling of body parts came at six.

Seven meant they were willing to commit a crime and sell body parts.

Eight was when they neared the wailing stage. I typically called it bartering, where they asked what they could possibly do in order to gain just one taste, anything, anything at all!

Nine was a rarity. I was a nine when I was tired, when I wanted a piece of ass from someone hot, and I didn’t want to make a big fuss over it. But a nine was dangerous because showing myself at a nine made it easier to wipe the individuals’ memories. Meaning I was more than likely cursing them to a life where they would never settle down because they’d be stuck comparing me to some sad human male with a beer gut, and he’d always fall short.

Even the Toms fell short.

Tom Brady.

Tom Hardy.

You get the picture.

In my entire existence, I’ve pulled a nine maybe four times. And each time I felt regretful — after all the sex had never been worthy of ruining some pathetic human’s chance at love.

And tens?

Tens weren’t done. To become a ten in front of a human would be the equivalent of a human discovering the sweetest tasting sin, the most physical and emotional ecstasy known over and over again. Add that in with good looks that made women, men, plants, atoms — you get the picture — full-on weep, and it just wasn’t done.

Never.

In fact, some might say it was forbidden.

I’d never been tempted.

Until five minutes ago.

I was currently at an eight, flirting with a ten, and she’d finally succumbed enough to fall to her knees, but when she glanced up, she blinked a few times then stood. “Sorry, I don’t know what happened.”

The hell?

I did a double take, my eyes narrowing as she shuddered before me, but still, nothing. No weeping. No sudden burst of adoration.

Nine, here I come.

I exhaled as I allowed my hair to go pure gold and my eyes to turn a shade of amber that looked like a never-ending ring of fire around my blue iris. I released waves of energy that I could see pulsing from my body with each exhale, and I was aware that she was being assaulted with my scent, a mixture of rain, fresh air, and finally a deep sweet chocolate.

The most addicting scents known to mankind.

The most cleansing scents to a human.

Her eyes widened as she gulped and then squeezed them shut and covered her face with her hands, her knees knocked together as she swayed.

“Open your eyes, human!”

“I-I’d rather not,” she said in a weak voice.

“Now!” The walls of the room shook causing a shriek to explode between her lips, and suddenly she was moving towards me and launching her plump body into the air.

Directly onto mine.

Mine.

My body.

Without any other option, I braced myself for her impact. Not that she could physically harm me, it was more of a mental brace of, oh shit the woman might be plump, but she moved with the speed of a torpedo.

I caught her in my arms.

The shaking stopped.

Her hands clung to the front of my shirt, her breathing was unsteady, her body sweaty, hot, and curvy.

I appreciated all types of beauty.

Even hers.

I would have preferred a small mate, one that I could terrify into submission — one I had no risk of falling in love with.

Because a siren in love — was a dangerous thing.

And a part of me wondered if that was what Cassius had planned all along. In order for me to be at my strongest, I needed to be in love.

Something I’d never experienced in all of my years of living, screwing, and toying with males and females alike.

“What.” I gave her a menacing glare. “The hell, do you think you’re doing?”

“I’m scared of earthquakes,” she whispered, licking her lips repeatedly until I thought I was going to go mad with the motion of her tongue sliding across the pink of her mouth. “Terrified, actually.”

“This is Seattle.” I was still holding her, for reasons beyond my realm of understanding.

“They say the next earthquake is going to be really big and half of downtown is going to slide into the Puget Sound, so excuse me for being scared!”

“And you live downtown?”

“Well… no.” Her brown eyes focused in on mine.

“Then you must visit there often?”

“No.”

I sighed impatiently. “So your fears are completely unfounded and illogical. Simply stop fearing it.”

“Easy for you to say.”

“I tire of holding you, human.” The lie fell easy; in fact, I had forgotten I was holding her until she fidgeted in my arms like she was the offended party, when I was the one who had just been assaulted. “The only thing you need to fear is me.”

“Because you…” She sighed. “You’re going to sacrifice me?”

I tried to hold the laugh in.

But it was all too ridiculous.

“Yes.” I nodded seriously, my lips twitching with the urge to smile. “The process will be painless. I’ll tie your hands and feet to the bedposts — strip you naked, and then plunge an immortal sword into your heart. You’ll need to repeat the words ut animam meam and then once you drink my blood — if it accepts you, you will live.”

Her face paled as she struggled to get out of my arms.

And then I lost it, dropping her back to her feet, laughing so hard I felt my body shook with it.

“I don’t even remember the phrase!” Her wild eyes darted between me and the bed, clearly not catching on. Joke. It was a joke.

“Well,” I lifted a shoulder and shrugged. “Then I guess you die.”

“But—”

“Better do it quickly, less pain that way.”

“What about the plants?”

My smile froze. “Either you’re extremely simple minded or mentally ill. What the hell are you talking about?”

“The—” She tugged at her low ponytail. “The plants, you know, around the grounds. I take care of them and Cassius—” Her eyes lit up. “Cassius said I was getting a promotion, so sorry, but you can’t kill me.”

I grinned. “Okay.”

She frowned.

I was still confused how she was shielding herself from my essence, but already I was mentally drained from the energy it took to get her to worship me — instead I returned to my normal everyday state and held out my hand.

She stared at it.

“Take my hand.”

“No.” She swallowed. “I think I’ll just wait for Cassius.”

“He’s already mated.”

Her eyes narrowed. “I’m not mating him.”

“No.” This, this was my favorite part, watching humans try to logically put together all of the pieces of the puzzle only to realize their brains were too small to comprehend the different parts they held, the angles, the colors, “You’re going to mate with me.”

I expected her to cry.

Maybe throw something.

Instead, she froze and then with a scream ran head first directly into my body sending me sailing backward against the marble floor.

I was caught unaware.

Meaning, I barely had time to stop myself before my head slammed back against the hard ground.

She tried to run toward the door.

“Cat and mouse.” I sighed from my position on the ground. “I always did like foreplay.”

She jerked against the doors with fervor, I’d give her that, but they wouldn’t budge.

Not until she was mine.

Not until the doors sensed my blood running through her veins.

“Why won’t it open?” Her voice was strangled as pieces of her hair fell out of its restraint and brushed against her shoulders. “You can’t keep me here forever.”

“I can.” I yawned. “I will.”

dollars

A thief met a possession and did what he did best.

Now, he has to live with the consequences.

Including the girl he claimed.

Pimlico was stolen and sold all before her twenty-first birthday.

Two years with a master who almost killed her is over.

She has a new master now.

A master who demands everything, expects everything, and requires ultimate access to her mind.

Elder broke countless rules when he took the girl who wasn’t his.

She confuses and bewitches him, but his fascination won’t save her from his desires.

He wants to know her.

She wants to forget.

Together…they’re doomed.

Dollars is the second book in the Dollar series. You must read Pennies before you read this to fully understand the strength of the main character Pimlico. She is one of the strongest heroines I have ever met in the reading world. She was a slave for two years to a horrific master until she was stolen. Is Elder her savior or another Master for her to obey?
Elder and Pimlico are both lost and confused. Damaged but not broken. Elder sees strength in Pim, it’s what made him want to steal her. She intrigues him. Infuriates him. He doesn’t want to lose control but she pushes and pushes without even speaking a single word. He wants her. Not only for her body but her mind. He wants to know her. He doesn’t know how to do this. He doesn’t want her to look at him like she did with Master A. He may be a monster but he isn’t like him. He is afraid the only way for Pim to open up is to show her his truth. But is he willing to do that to get what he wants? He doesn’t even know if he wants to keep her after she is healed. But what scares him. most is, what if he does?
Pimlico doesn’t know if she should curse him or thank him for stealing her. Did she leave a Master she knew what to expect with to go with another that could be even worse? She felt something for Elder during their one kiss but was it him or was it because it wasn’t Master A? She’s lost, confused, overwhelmed, and feeling more vulnerable than ever. He says he wants her voice but will she ever believe that he deserves it? She has kept it even from herself for two years. And what will happen after he gets what he demands? Will he sell her to the highest bidder or throw her away at sea? The other option is to keep her for himself or give her freedom. He is so hot and cold, she has no idea what is going on from one moment to another.
I was hooked from the first page to the very last sentence. I am so happy that Pepper didn’t make us wait long for this book. Pennies was definitely a darker read. It showed the strength of Pim and in Dollars, you will see it even more but in a lighter form. She is trying to find herself with Elder pushing her at every turn. I wasn’t so sure about Elder in Pennies but he got to me in this book. He has his own secrets, desires, and strength. He matches Pim’s stubbornness. I thought it was amazing that Pepper could write a book where there is really only one-sided communication between the characters.
Overall…it was amazing! The characters are damaged but not broken. They way they communicate is both beautiful and frustrating. It’s all part of their journey and what a unique one it is! I can’t wait for the next book.
Quotes:
I’m sorry for what I’m about to do to you, Pim.
But you’re mine now.

“Forget the past and only remember this.”
“Now you know the rules. Let’s begin.”

Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.

He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.

Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.

And their deaths.

For most people, death is the end of their story.

For Preppy and Dre, death was only the beginning.

This is the fifth book in the King Series and it’s meant to be read after Soulless.

“No! I hate you,” she spat, as I continued to tug her beside me.

“Good, you can hate me while I fuck you,” I said. “But first things first. My lesson obviously didn’t take in that brain of yours. You want what you want and I can’t stop you,” I said, as we approached the train tracks which were elevated on a mound of gravel several feet off the ground. The warning lights flashed orange, the neon reflective barriers dropped down to cover the service road, while the bells indicating an approaching train clanged away. “And since I can’t stop you, I’m going to help you out. Bullet in the head was so three hours ago. I’ve got something even better in mind now.”

“Wait. What?” she asked, her teeth chattering. “You…you wouldn’t.”

“Wouldn’t what?” I said, turning around to face her, almost losing my footing when I noticed the trail of dried tears on her cheeks. I looked away for a fraction of a second to regain my composure. “You think I wouldn’t kill someone?” I cocked an eyebrow. “You already know that I’ve been there, done that, bought the motherfucking t-shirt, doll.” Her eyes went wide and she made a move to step back. “Oh no, Doc, I read your letter and I saw what you wanted. And remember, I’m nothing if not accommodating.”

When I pulled her to climb the gravel mound her knees locked up so I bent over and picked her up by the waist, tossing her over my shoulder, carrying her onto the tracks while she beat on my back with her closed fists. When I got to the top I set her down roughly and she fell backwards onto her ass, bracing herself with her hands against the large pieces of gravel under the tracks.

The whistle of the train blew in the distance. It wouldn’t be long now. Dre made a move to stand up, but that wasn’t what I had in mind. I bent down and pushed on her chest, spreading her tiny frame across the tracks. I crawled on top of her, pinning her down with my thighs. I leaned over her, my chest to hers as we both breathed rapidly. She struggled underneath me to get up, pushing at my chest, but I wouldn’t budge. “Why the struggle, Doc? This is what you wanted, isn’t it?”

She glanced up at me as the train whistled again. Her gaze flipped to her right, where the single yellow light from the train emerged from around the corner, shining brighter and brighter as it chugged closer and closer. For a moment she stopped struggling, looking back and forth from the train to me.

“So what, you’re gonna die too?” she asked, hoping to appeal to my sense of self preservation.

I shrugged. “I get bored easily, maybe the devil will make me his errand boy or something.”

“Preppy, this isn’t funny. Get up and get off the fucking tracks,” she said, her concern shifting from herself to me.

I shook my head and yawned. She wiggled underneath me, and although there was a train barreling toward us my cock once again stirred to life. Maybe I should just rip down her panties and push inside of her. Train or no train, it would be one fuck of a way to go out.

“You have to choose, Doc,” I said, making my voice as serious as I was capable. “Life?” I asked, screaming over the sound of the train screeching against the track. I pushed my hard cock against her core and she gasped. Her trembling turned into a shiver, her mouth fell open. I glanced to the side at the blinding light of the approaching train as it bathed us both in a tunnel of light. I leaned down, so close that my lips were a whisper above hers, as I shouted, “Life? Or death? What’s it gonna be, Doc?” My hair blew around my face as the light grew brighter and brighter. “Answer the fucking question!” I demanded, my hands squeezing her shoulders, my fingers digging roughly into her skin. “DO YOU WANT TO FUCKING DIE?”

With only seconds left until we became shredded under the train, Dre closed her eyes and sighed. When she opened them again they were glistening, fresh tears spilling from the edges.

She started to speak, her lips forming the beginning of the word, but before it could fully leave her lips I stood, pulling her up with me. I lifted Dre into my arms and took a running leap off the tracks, my legs flailing in the air as we fell the seven or so feet. Dre’s decision still on her lips, her scream surrounding the air around us as we crashed down into the field.

“I wanna liiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvveeeeee.”

PROLOGUE

PRESENT

PREPPY

Tiny flashes of dim light spark in the darkened corners of my mind. Slowly, it turns from dusk to dawn, awakening my thoughts as the inner light grows brighter and brighter.

I hear a sound, a faucet running, and I realize it’s the blood rushing through my ears. When it reaches my heart I choke as it comes back to life like a bass drum. Boom. BaBOOM it beats, on and on, until it falls into a quick yet steady rhythm. The new life inside me grows louder, stronger, until death fades away and I awake on a gasp.

My eyes spring open. I try to take in air, but nothing happens. I try again and my lungs burn as they finally decide to cooperate. I can breathe, but it hurts like a son of a bitch.

I’m fucking alive.

My first thoughts shock the shit out of me. They’re of a girl. A sad looking girl with shiny black hair and huge dark eyes sitting on the edge of the water tower.

My heart falls out of rhythm, beating faster and faster until it’s thrumming against my chest like the vibration of a jackhammer.

Her.

Although my vision is blurry as shit, my thoughts of her are clearer than they’d ever been, and for the first time in my adult life, I’m fucking scared.

I don’t even need to see the big motherfucker standing over me with a baseball bat to know I am completely and totally fucked.

“Your language skills are better than your French-braiding skills,” she teases as she shuts her iPad.

I pretend to be insulted. “So not true. I can do French braids with my eyes closed.”

She shakes her head. “Somehow, I doubt that.”

“I’ll prove it to you.”

She tilts her head, and her hand freezes on her purse. “Prove it?” she asks quietly.

Somehow I’ve thrown a gauntlet I didn’t realize I was tossing. I do the only natural next thing—follow through. “Sure. Got one of those hair tie things?”

She nods slowly. “Yes, but . . .” Her voice trails off. Then she resumes the thought. “You really learned to French braid?”

I nod. “Hayden insisted on it,” I explain then study her face. Her pupils are dilated, and she blinks. Ah hell, I’ve made her wary with my remark. “I don’t have to prove it. I was just teasing,” I say, giving her an out. Mildly flirty comments are one thing—hands in hair are another.

A small grin spreads on her face, as she dips her hand into her purse and produces a black elastic band. “No, I insist. You were horrible last time. Have at it.”

She drops to the floor, scoots over to me, and with her shoulder, she nudges my right knee.

Hello, slippery slope. Funny to see you again so soon.

Her other shoulder bumps my other knee. There’s no need to think—I widen my legs more and let her settle in between them. I’m seated on the couch, she’s on the floor, and she waits for me to braid her hair.

As I stare at her lush, blond locks, the breath escapes my lungs. For a moment, it’s as if I’m hovering in a state of suspended want. Like this is the real line we’re crossing. Not me bringing her dessert, or touching the corner of her lips, or gazing at her face longer than I should. Not even sending texts about a pair of wild birds or making comments about showers and nudity.

But this.

Touching her hair.

Fuck, I love her hair.

I slide the tie over my wrist, then gather up some strands near the top of her head. “Confession,” I say in a quiet voice. “I watched a few YouTube videos after you taught me.”

She leans back, and I can feel her smile. “Like I said, prove it.”

“It’s on.” I focus on the task of separating her honey-blond hair into three sections, running my fingers through them like a comb. I lift the first strand and lay it over the middle one, then the left, gathering more hair into the next section.

After I failed at her first French braid lesson, I took it upon myself to learn. I don’t like not being able to master basic skills. A man should be able to braid his daughter’s hair.

And his woman’s hair.

“How does it look?” Her voice sounds a little breathy.

“Like it was braided by a man who learned by watching YouTube videos,” I answer.

She laughs lightly and leans into me more, inching closer. My hands still for a moment. I feel like I’m in high school again. Like I have a crush on a girl, and I don’t know what to do, where to go next, what to say.

The thing is, I do know. I just don’t know that I should. But I know what I want. There’s no doubt in my mind. I want to touch her, to kiss her, to feel her body press against mine. Even the chance to touch her like this is intoxicating, a rush of blood to the head. Her waves of hair are soft, and they feel spectacular falling through my fingers. I can’t picture a single thing besides running my hands through these strands as I kiss her, as I touch her, as she moves beneath me.

Let me count the ways why falling into forbidden love is not my wisest move…

  1. She works with me every single day.

Did I mention she’s gorgeous, sweet, kind and smart?

  1. She works in my home.

Playing with my five-year-old daughter. Teaching my little girl. Cooking for my princess. Which means…

  1. She’s the nanny.

And that makes her completely off-limits…But it doesn’t stop me from wanting her. All of her.

***

The other nannies in this city don’t call him the Sexy One for nothing. My boss, the amazingly wonderful single father to the girl I take care of every day is ridiculously hot, like movie star levels with those arms, and those eyes, and that body. Not to mention, the way he dotes on his little girl melts me all over. But what really makes my knees weak are the times when his gaze lingers on me. In secret. When no one else is around.

I can’t risk my job for a chance at something more…can I? But I don’t know how to resist him much longer either…

**The audiobook will release the same day as the eBook on October 17th and will be narrated by

Sebastian York and Andi Arndt!**

Kara's Review

The Sexy One is a new standalone by Lauren Blakely. It’s slightly ridiculous how giddy I get when Lauren announces a new book. And even more so when it’s a character I fell in love with in a previous book. As always, the writing is impeccable, the characters real, the storyline meaningful and addicting. We met Simon in Mister O and I was almost cheering that Harper would choose him. Simon is a sexy single father with the cutest little girl, Hayden. He’s smart, funny and delicious. Abby is Hayden’s nanny. I know what you’re thinking…that old taboo story about the dad and the nanny. No. Just no. This is not that story. Yes, she’s the nanny, but he’s not married and they are both adults. That’s how they met, but those are the their labels. Simon has always been attracted to Abby, but never made a move on her. Abby couldn’t help but have a crush on Simon. I mean, look at him. Plus, he’s a wonderful father, a smart business man, and he makes her laugh. All of a sudden their relationship changes. Just a fraction at first. A little flirty banter. A brush of hands. They are both fighting it because they think it’s wrong, but when Simon needs help learning French to close a business deal, he asks Abby to teach him. They don’t call it the language of love for nothing! After a few lessons, a sort of date, the fire that’s been smoldering ignites. In the sexiest ‘in the back of a cab kiss’ ever written. Their relationship isn’t about sex. Yes, they want it. Yes, they need it. But they’ve been friends for months and it’s been a slow boiling love for a long time. Can they get over the stigma of being boss and nanny? Will they take the leap to finally be something real? I love this couple! Simon….sigh. I just can’t. He’s perfect. Just perfect. Sexy, smart, loves his daughter, says all the right things at the right time, knows what he wants and goes after it. Abby is dedicated, smart, beautiful and knows what she wants out of life. I laughed, cried, fanned myself and swooned. I want more of this couple!

When handsomeness was handed out, Simon Travers landed more than a few extra helpings. The man snagged someone else’s share, too. And another’s and another’s.

“My sweet, sexy Abby. You know I can’t resist you.”

I can’t think of anyplace I’d rather be, or any conversation I’d rather have. This woman has burrowed her way into my heart, simply by being herself. I don’t honestly know if I can let her go.

Oh, how I love a forbidden romance! The Sexy One can absolutely be read as a standalone. If you are a Lauren fan like me then you have been already introduced to Simon (Mister O) and Abby (Well Hung) and putting them together is genius. I am really not surprised since its Lauren’s doing and she is the queen of connections. In all ways.
Seven months. It’s been seven months since Abby entered Simon and Hayden’s life and every day it gets harder and harder for him to hide his attraction to her. She is an untouchable beauty that he wants to ravish. She is also funny, smart, kind and the best damn nanny to his five year old daughter. And that right there is the reason why she is untouchable. He doesn’t want to lose her. It would not only break his heart but more importantly, it would break Hayden’s. It’s beautiful to see how much they have bonded over such a short amount of time. He sees it every day that it’s not just a job for Abby, she genuinely loves spending time with his daughter. He doesn’t want to risk breaking three hearts. But, in his line of business as a restaurant investor, it’s all about the risks. Risk vs. reward. Is she a risk he is willing to take?
Abby has been smitten with her boss since day one. He is known for being the sexy one in the nanny circle. But to her he is the smart, kind, funny, good, and sweet one. And of course swoon-worthy. Even more swoon-worthy when he is playing with Abby. She also enjoys their few minutes alone every night before she goes home. They get to talk about their day, bond over an eagle cam, and have a few laughs. Then she goes home and fantasizes about him. Alone in bed. He drives her libido crazy but she doesn’t know if it’s a one-sided attraction. Until…they start to dip their tongues across that line.
Seven months. It was a good fight. Once that line is crossed they know they should go back to their own sides but attraction mixed with honesty, sweet kisses, French lessons, baby Eagles, and one cute Hayden, it’s irresistible! But can it work? Are the clichés too much for them to handle?
I loved this couple! Simon is one fucking swoon-worthy single dad. He loves Hayden to the moon and it’s true that it makes him even sexier. He is also naughty with a twist of sweet. And Abby is so much fun! I want to be her friend so bad. She is passionate about everything and everyone that she cares about. Including her loves of animals. She is adorable with a twist of sexy. Together, their connection is hot, fun, and most of all it’s magical. I thought they are so freakin’ cute!! And Hayden is right in the middle of the cuteness.
Overall…it’s one swoony ride. Foreplay plays a big role and it was a wonderful change of pace especially when their is a child involved. Secret glances, sexy smirks, and inside innuendos make it so much fun. I read it in one sitting and didn’t want it to end. But I know I will see them again soon.
P.S. Lauren once again made me cry! 😭 ❤️
Quotes:
“How does it look?” Her voice sounds a little breathy.
“Like it was braided by a man who learned by watching YouTube videos,” I answer.
“Hi, Simon,” I say, and I’m impressed I said those two words without climbing him like a tree. I can do this. I’m a rock star at resisting.
This kiss vibrates and spreads through my entire body, as if I’ve been shot full of liquid beauty, like gold and silver flow through my veins.

Jane isn’t entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn’t she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes—or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire—maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn’t anyone’s dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk—even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it’s karmic retribution that he’s tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can’t have. But while they can’t have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy.

Kara's Review

The Bachelor Auction is the first book in the Bachelors of Arizona series. I couldn’t be a bigger fan of Rachel Van Dyken if I tried. I’ve read all of her books and I love them all for very different reasons. The Bachelor Auction is a little different Rachel book. Yes, this is a modern take on Cinderella but it’s also more sexual and more adult than some of her other books.

Brock is trying to run his family business. He’s thirty-five years old, but he’s never let himself have fun. That’s what his twin brothers are for. They are fun, crazy, womanizers who make Brock’s life a living hell sometimes. Their grandfather comes up with a scheme to help the company with their publicity issues. A bachelor auction and Brock is the first to be auctioned off. On a rare night when he’s not the usual boring Brock, he meets a sweet, beautiful stranger, Jane. She breaks her shoes and is whisked away by Brock. She can’t help but be instantly attracted to him. His smell, his face, the caring way he handles her. And the way he gets her new shows. Really pretty, expensive shoes. But it’s too much to take and she runs. Brock needs to find her. There’s something about her that got under his skin and he needs to see her again. Jane runs a cleaning company and is hired for a job out of town. Just when she almost forgets about Brock he show ups where she’s working. And he’s not leaving. Their attraction grows more and more every day. He’s sexy and has a dirty mouth, but he’s no prince. So, Jane has to deal with sexy Brock, an ass, a cock and Brock’s crazy twin brothers. Brock wants Jane. More than anything he’s ever wanted, but he’s about to be auctioned to the highest bidder. How is this his life? Being back in his childhood home is bringing back memories he doesn’t want to face. Can Jane help him move on? Will Brock go through with the auction and leave Jane behind? I enjoyed this story. Brock and Jane have hilarious banter and I loved the twins. I might be looking forward to their stories more than I was looking forward to this one!

“You know, once you go Brock you never go back.”

“It would be bad enough if there were only one of you, but there’s two. Literally.”

“Good, then you have two minutes to remove every stitch of clothing on your body and meet me in my room.”

“What, no please?”

“Now. Please.”

“Only a complete idiot would walk out of this room right now.”

“Which is why it’s so surprising you’re still here.”

“Cute.”

“I thought so.”

The Bachelor Auction is first book in the Bachelors of Arizona Series. I love Rachel Van Dyken as an author and a person. She is so much fun, and it shows in her writing. I know I will be laughing my ass off and also feel the love. This is a Cinderella story with a twist…

Brock Wellington is a thirty-five year bachelor that is known by his trouble-making twin brothers as “Boring Brock.” While they are out partying and bringing a different woman home every night he is trying to keep the family together and out of the papers. He is the serious one. He is also the brother that will always say yes, especially to their grandfather. So, when his grandfather said he was going to be auctioning him off to the highest bidder to help the company with publicity and to keep the shareholders happy, it was no shock that he said yes. What could a few dates hurt, right? He was single and it would be over soon. But when the press got ahold of the story…he was being married off to the highest bidder. He really needs to learn the word No. He was still okay with the plan until he saved her. A beautiful woman with a broken shoe.

Jane or “Plain Jane” as her sisters like to call her is overwhelmed with life. She not only took over their father’s cleaning business but his responsibility of keeping his family together. Her sisters walked all over her like she was a doormat and she was tired of it. They even made her go to parties to pretty much take care of them. She hated it but on one night she met a sexy man, that more like a prince in her eyes. He saved her that night but then she Ran. She didn’t think she would ever see him again but after taking a cleaning job that would give her peace for three weeks at a ranch, she would be seeing him on a daily basis. Sadly, her prince was more like an arrogant, mean and disrespectful ass. And there was already an ass on the property, she didn’t need another.

Brock was screwed. He wants the maid. But he can’t have her so he needs to push her far, far away. This auction is important to the business and to his grandfather. But, being back on this ranch is making him face his demons and the ghosts that still live there. He hasn’t been here since he was twelve. He tries to push Jane away like she has the plague but she makes this house full of ghosts feel like home. Everyday she tempts him with her sassy attitude and sexy curves to say fuck it to the auction and to everything else. He just needs her. So, why can’t he have her until the auction? He knows she feels the sexual tension too but would it be fair to her? Will she give him a chance? Can she trust him not to break her at the end of their time together? After all, she is just the maid.

I liked this story because Brock and Jane are from two different worlds but they carry the same burdens. He might be her prince but she is equally saving him from his demons. Making him smile again. Making him laugh and to feel free. And he does the same for her. Then there are the twins – Bentley and Brant. OMG! These men are hilarious! They are bad boys with heart. They love to give their brother a hard time but in a loving way. I loved them along with the cock and the ass. They added some crazy amount of humor to the story. I can’t wait for their books. I know they are going to be wild.

Overall…it’s a great start to a new series. It’s a fun, light, and sexy read. Like, I said I love RVD and her books. But, this one book wasn’t one of my favorites. I know she wants honestly in her reviews. So, I will say that I really liked it and even loved it but I wasn’t in love with it. The characters were awesome but I wasn’t completely invested in them. I wanted an HEA of course but I don’t feel that real gripping passion between them. And one other thing was that I know it was a Cinderella story with a twist but I think Cinderella was mentioned a few too many times. No biggie but she was saving him just as much as he was saving her.

Quotes:

“A woman like you doesn’t belong in the shadows.”

With a weak wave of her hand she went into the kitchen, only to find Brock doing the dishes. For someone who had been doing nothing but cleaning up after other people her entire life, it was like watching porn.

“Saved your life,” Bentley said in a bored tone.
“But what can I say, I’m good with my cock.” He winked at Jane.

Chapter Four

Jane was pressed so tightly against the wall she would have sworn her body was starting to blend into the wallpaper. Most people didn’t give her a second glance. Then again, she wouldn’t give herself a second glance either.

Women with fake boobs and injected lips mocked her while rich men in three-piece suits completely ignored her.

She self-consciously tugged at hem of the short black dress. In a last ditch effort to modernize the dress, or at least add a bit of spice, she’d grabbed her mother’s long pearls, wrapped them around her neck twice and called it good.

But the minute they’d arrived at the party she’d wanted to disappear. Her sisters were already semi-drunk, thanks to the vodka they’d had in the car. Against Jane’s protests they’d taken shots while she drove. And then she’d paid for parking only to hear them whine that she had parked too far away.

They’d been here for twenty minutes and already she wanted to leave, or at least sit down, but most of the available space was taken by couples talking, eating…kissing.

She was surrounded by the beautiful and rich.

The only reason her sisters had even been invited was because they were complete and total social climbers, and had managed to gain an invitation from a friend who was an heiress to some french fry company.

A waiter passed by with champagne.

She grabbed a glass and downed the entire thing. It didn’t help her nerves, but at least the bubbles semi-calmed her stomach.

Her sweaty feet slid in her too-big red pumps as she pressed harder against the wall to alleviate the ache in her toes.

The music shifted to a loud techno song as the lights went from red to a bright white, and with a gasp she covered her eyes and then blinked a few times to clear her line of vision.

The jumbled sweaty bodies moved aside as the music changed to a slow song. There was just enough of a break for her to see across the room.

“Oh.” It was all she could utter, really the only word she was capable of as her breathing picked up. Without thinking, she grabbed another glass of champagne from a passing waiter, suddenly awkward. What was she supposed to do with her hands?

Thick wavy auburn hair fell in disarray over his forehead. It was lush, shiny, perfect. Were guys born with hair like that? Or was his somehow chemically engineered? His full lips pressed together in a secret smile as the equally handsome man next to him said something, then erupted in laughter.

The first man stiffened, then shook his head. His broad shoulders seemed to grow tight as a drum. A slight tic in his jaw was the only clue that he was irritated or maybe outright angry.

And then his shoulders slumped as he was handed another drink and then another.

Nervous. He must be nervous. But what could a man like that possibly have to be nervous about?

He easily towered over most of the men in attendance. Suddenly his posture changed, then he smiled.

Jane felt her mouth drop open in shock.

Dazzling.

He was…like a duke or a lord or a prince from a storybook. Clearly, she read too many romance novels, but his entire presence demanded attention; screamed authority, importance, and sex. Lots and lots of sex.

Yes, his virility was a tangible thing, as if she could reach out and grasp it with her fingertips.

“What are you doing?” Esmeralda yelled in her right ear, interrupting her blatant sexual fantasy about a complete stranger. Great. That’s what her life had come to. And sadly? It was the most fun she’d had all night.

Jane turned to Esmeralda, prayed for patience, and answered. “Sorry, I was just thinking.”

“You’re so boring.” Esmeralda rolled her eyes. “No wonder you got dumped.”

Another fun fact? Esmeralda was mean when she was drunk.

The reminder of the breakup burned like acid.

It had been a year ago, not that it mattered. It still hurt that the last guy she’d dated had told her that although she was cute, she wasn’t really doing it for him anymore.

Right. Doing it.

Maybe that was because she hadn’t done anything for him or with him, and he found that lacking. But they’d only dated for a few weeks. Did normal girls do that? Put out after a few weeks? Apparently.

She wasn’t normal.

But if that was normal, maybe she was better off being strange.

“Jane, are you even listening to me?” Esmeralda whined. “Essence needs you to dance next to her for a bit. I’m tired and tipsy. I want to sit. Plus your dress blends in enough that it won’t take attention away from her.”

No way. What? What had she just said?

Jane wrapped her arms around her middle. “I’m sorry, what?”

Without warning, Esmeralda grabbed Jane’s hand and jerked her toward the dance floor, causing Jane to lose her footing and crash directly into Esmeralda’s back. Then, like a domino, she slammed back into Essence.

Jane opened her mouth to shout out an apology, but Esmeralda was already too drunk to listen to reason. With determination in her eyes, she reached for the pearls at Jane’s neck but grabbed the fabric of the dress instead.

Her poorly sewn dress ripped instantly, causing the fabric to slink past her strapless bra. A diagonal slit split up her thigh almost all the way to her hip. In an  effort to cover herself, she took a step and tripped, thanks to her clunky shoes.

And then she fell to the floor.

Hard.

Her sisters watched in horror—but neither of them offered a hand. They were probably kicking themselves for forcing her to come. Esmeralda leaned over but missed Jane’s shoulder by a mile, grabbing her hair and giving it a tug, which only made Jane wince harder.

Both sisters were completely tanked.

And she was less than two minutes away from being trampled by the other sweaty bodies around her.

She glanced up.

And into the eyes of the man she’d just been lusting after.

Oh God, the humiliation was complete.

That one glance told her he’d seen it all. She swallowed back the thickness building in her throat. Of course the only time he’d notice her would be when she’d ripped her dress and nearly took out a few guests on her way down to the dance floor.

The crowd gathered around her.

And the sexy man disappeared—probably off in search of a girl with perfect hair, perfect teeth, perfect clothes.

She really should have stayed home.

Tears filled her eyes as a heel pressed into her right hand. With a jerk she tugged her hand free, struggling to get up to stand on her wobbly feet, when suddenly she was pulled to a standing position and then swept up in strong arms.

Jane’s eyes were still so blurry from unshed tears she couldn’t make out the man’s face as he carried her out of the crowd.

He smelled like heaven.

She fought the insane urge to press her face against his chest and just…close her eyes.

Because he felt safe.

Pathetic, when a stranger’s arms provided more safety than her own family. And yet he felt…right.

In a world where things for the past ten years had felt so wrong.

He felt right.

Maybe she’d had too much champagne.

“Are you all right?” he whispered in a deep voice with a hint of a southern drawl. He’d brought her into a private room where the music wasn’t quite so deafening.

He set her on one of the black leather couches and shut the door, muffling the music on the other side.

Blinking, Jane glanced up and gawked, like a starry-eyed teenager. He was the same man she’d seen earlier, the one she’d been captivated by. “Yes.”

“Yes?” He looked confused. His amazing eyebrows drew together, and a small line creased the center of his forehead. Even the line was gorgeous, just as gorgeous as the rest of him.

His thickly muscled body screamed power. Her hands slid down the front of his chest. Even his shirt was smooth. She didn’t realize she’d been basically petting him until his muscles tensed beneath her palm. Oh crap.

“I mean, yes, I’m fine.” She tried to stand then fell back down; her stupid heel was broken. “Or I was fine, until I got trampled.”

The line in his forehead deepened. “You’re not hurt, are you?”

Jane shook her head then pressed her hand to her chest and gasped out, “My pearls!”

“Wait here.” He held out his hands. “I’ll get the necklace, I’m sure it’s where you fell and—”

“No.” Jane slumped, defeated. “They broke off when my sis—” She corrected herself, not wanting to claim the crazies in the other room. “They broke apart when I fell.”

The man sighed loudly and ran his fingers through his perfect hair. “I’ll talk to the club manager and see if anyone turns them in.”

It was on the tip of her tongue to give him all the many reasons why they were irreplaceable, but instead she settled with, “That’s really not necessary. It’s not your fault I was a victim of the techno craze.”

His upper lip curled. “I hate techno.”

“Me too.”

“Is there something I can do? Anything? You promise you aren’t hurt?”

“Careful or you’re going to have me believe you got me trampled on purpose in order to trap me in a private room,” she joked as a smile tugged at her lips.

“Had I known you were willing, I wouldn’t have had to go to such extremes to orchestrate it.”

He appeared stunned by his own answer.

Her breath hitched. Was he flirting with her?

His crystal blue eyes twinkled with amusement.

“So…” Her voice was hoarse, like an old woman’s. Great. “I should probably get back to the party.” Why did she need to go back again? All the reasons seemed to disappear as he maneuvered around the couch and popped a bottle of champagne that had been chilling in a nearby crystal bucket.

“Why don’t you and I have a drink first?” He peered around the table. “I’ll need to send for some shoes. It’s the least I can do.” His gaze heated. “Shoes are appropriate to purchase for a stranger. A dress, I’m afraid…” The corners of his mouth tilted into a sultry smile as his eyes slowly raked over the scraps of fabric barely covering her breasts. “Not so much.”

Did people do that these days? Just send for shoes? Who was this guy? “Really, it’s not necessary. I’ll just stick to the shadows so I don’t scare anyone with my limp and I’ll be okay.” She sounded more confident than she felt, and her lower lip trembled a bit. Next time she was going to hold her ground, stay home, read a book, and be plain boring Jane. This wasn’t her scene. Not by a long shot.

He leaned in close, so close she could smell his aftershave again. “A woman like you doesn’t belong in the shadows.”

Uncomfortable, she tried to make light of the situation again. “Wow, a hero and good with words. I bet you’re just a regular handful, aren’t you?”

“Me?” He laughed as if the thought was the funniest thing he’d ever heard. “No, that would be my twin brothers. They’re the handfuls. I’m…” He seemed to think about it. “Just Brock.”

“Well, Just Brock…” Jane held out her hand. “I’m Just Jane.”

His hand completely engulfed hers as their palms pressed against one another. He was so warm. And big.

Huge.

Huge hands. That meant something, right?

Crap, she was still shaking his hand, and he was grinning at her as if it was the funniest thing that had ever happened to him. And he was looking at her. At her eyes, not at the fact that she was half-naked on a couch, with a broken shoe.

With a jerk, she pulled her hand back and nervously reached to tuck a stray piece of hair behind her ear.

“So, Brock.” Jane looked down at his shoes. That was safe. Shoes. Nothing sexy about a man’s feet, right? Except his were inside shoes that she ventured probably cost more than she’d ever see in a lifetime. “About those shoes.”

“Shoes.” He repeated the word and then quickly stood. “Right, just wait here.”

He disappeared, giving her the breathing room she absolutely positively needed, only to re-appear a few seconds later.

Without shoes.

She frowned; then again, what had she expected? That he’d bang some plastic Barbie over the head with his cell phone, steal her shoes, and then toss them to Jane?

Brock studied her. “Your shoes should be here within the next fifteen minutes. I just sent my degenerate brother across the street. Saks is still open. The night is young.”

Saks?

Shoes from Saks?

She’d never owned anything from Saks. Ever. But she knew the store; didn’t every woman? Still, the most expensive thing she’d ever owned had been the pearls.

“That’s really…” She waved her hand in the air and stood. “Not necessary…you can tell him that—”

Brock reached for her hand and lightly tugged her back. “Sit. It is necessary. And although I typically wait until the third date to buy a woman gifts, I think your nearly getting trampled allows me to break that rule.”

Still tense, Jane nodded and took a shaky look around the small, private room.

“To new shoes?” Brock grabbed his drink and lifted it in the air toward her.

She lifted her glass and clinked it against his then took a small sip. The champagne was pink and sweet, with a tart aftertaste. “It’s good.”

“You sound surprised.” Brock’s lips lifted in a smile.

She scrunched up her nose. “I’m not much of a drinker, and I typically don’t like drinks that are the same color as my underwear.”

The minute the words were out of her mouth, she froze, barely managing to suppress the urge to clap a hand over her mouth. She wanted someone to run her over with a car.

With a choke, Brock nearly spit out the sip he’d just taken. Face flushed, he stared her down and then whispered, “You’re making me regret my decision to send out for boring black shoes.”

“I didn’t…I mean, pink is fine.” Stop talking, stop talking. “Not all of my underwear is pink. I have black, too.”

Brock’s lips parted with a greedy exhale, and he downed the rest of his drink. “Oh?”

Hell in a handbasket.

Why was she giving him a rundown of her lingerie drawer? As if he were a naughty Santa with a checklist in front of him, putting down little marks on the little boxes that read “red lacy thong”? Check. “Black boyshorts”? Double check.

“I’m more of a boxer brief sort of guy,” he said smoothly, bringing her back to the present.

“Huh?”

“Too far?” He chuckled. “I figured if I knew the color of yours…I should at least show you mine.” He leaned forward.

Had he said show?

Just how drunk was he? Maybe that was the reason his eyes were zeroing in on her mouth. He blinked, and then seemed to sway a bit.

Was he okay? And why was he still staring at her mouth? Did she have something on her face?

Self-consciously, she pressed her fingertips to her lips only to have him suck in a breath and lift his right hand from his thigh as if wanting to touch the place where her fingers had just been.

“Got the shoes!” a male voice yelled as Jane jerked away from Brock.

What had just happened?

“Holy shit, you’re hot.”

She recognized the man from before. He was about an inch shorter than Brock, but had the same perfect auburn hair. “I’m Bentley, and since this one’s about to get married, I feel like it’s only fair to let you know that out of the two of us, I’m the single, available one, who’s also—lucky for you—been given a higher rating in the sack.”

Married?

He was getting married?

And hitting on her?

Or was she hitting on him? After all, she was the one who’d mentioned underwear. Ugh, she wanted to crawl under the table and die.

The New York Times bestselling Driven series continues with a story about finding love where you least expect it…

Behind the wheel, racing champion Zander Donavan is at the top of his game. But after too much excess in his personal life, he’s forced to step away. He needs to accomplish something all on his own—outside of his famous father, Colton Donavan’s, shadow.

Getty Caster is running away from the abuse that clouds her past. She thinks she’s found the perfect escape—until she discovers a stranger in the beachside cottage she’d been promised. He’s undeniably sexy, but she’s there to heal. Alone.

Before long though, fighting with each other turns into fighting their attraction. And giving into desire sets off a chain reaction that has their pasts colliding. With an unexpected love on the line, can they overcome the fallout to build a future?

“You don’t know anything about me.” My voice is slight but strong, my need to assert myself front and center despite his calling me on the carpet.

“That’s where you’re wrong, Socks. I might not know where you’re from or why I ruffled your feathers today, but I know you’re stronger than you give yourself credit for. Whatever it is that you ran from back home, you did it. You got out and are making it on your own. That takes guts and you deserve mad props for that. I know you like things messy and are goddamn cute when you’re tipsy. I know you’re stubborn as hell and gorgeous as fuck. And that your kiss tastes like an aged whiskey: something I want to sip slowly, feel on my lips, savor on my tongue, and take my time with before I get drunk on it.” With a lift of his eyebrows and a nod of his head, he walks past me, leaving me with my mouth agape and eyes wide.

I can’t move. Just stand staring at the door in front of me as I try to process what he just said, what he meant by it, and yet there’s no use because we just had a whole one-sided conversation and that need to banter with him is gone. Lost to the tingling in my lower belly and the wild spinning of my thoughts.

“Oh, and, Getty?” Zander calls out to me from the kitchen, refusing to continue until I turn to face him, standing there unabashedly shirtless. “If you ever call me pretty again, we’re gonna have a real problem. I guarantee you there is nothing pretty about me.”

I almost smile at the fact that out of all of the crappy things I said to him, that is the one that bugged him the most.

“You are kind of pretty, though,” I murmur, unable to resist goading him further, needing to try to get us back on an even playing field. Because hell if right now I don’t feel like I’m on the low end of the teeter-totter.

His immediate response? A snort to signify that his chiseled abs and the tall, dark, and handsome thing he’s got going on are nothing more than average.

“Last warning, Socks.” His eyes flash with mirth. And what looks like desire.

An unexpected part of me—the one who usually hides and doesn’t ever take a chance—wants to say it again. Just to see what he’d do if I did.

“So damn pretty.” I don’t know who’s more shocked at my comment, him or me, but we stand there for a moment, gazes locked, unspoken words warring across the distance between us.

He walks toward me with a predatory gleam in his eyes and a salacious smirk on his lips that catches me off guard. “I know I said you were brave, Getty, but now you’re just playing with matches.”

I draw in a long inhale as he steps right in front of me. I can’t look at him. My nerve is suddenly gone. Outside, rain pelts the roof. The constant drip into the bucket in the hallway serves as a metronome to this anticipatory silence we are dancing in. The goose bumps on his chest are the only thing I can focus on.

When his thumb and forefinger direct my chin up so I’m forced to meet his eyes, every part of me hums from his touch. From the want of something I don’t quite understand myself and couldn’t ever put into words. Our eyes meet—his intense, mine searching for answers that aren’t his to give—before his gaze flicks down to my mouth and then back up again.

“Not yet, Getty.” He closes his eyes for a beat, and I see what I think is restraint reflected in his grimace, before a ghost of a smile spreads on his lips. “I don’t think you’re ready to light this fire just yet.”

Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.

Jane isn’t entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn’t she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes—or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire—maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn’t anyone’s dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk—even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it’s karmic retribution that he’s tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can’t have. From the New York Times bestselling authors of Stuck-Up Suit and Cocky Bastard, comes a sexy new standalone novel.

Money or love? Which would you choose?

You probably just answered the question in your head thinking it’s an easy decision.

For me, it’s not. Did I mention it’s a lot of money? A hell of a lot.

I needed to go far away to think it through.

As I embarked on an impulsive trip, I hit a detour when I met sexy Carter in the airport lounge. We struck up a heated conversation.

Then, he left.

I thought I’d never see him again.

But fate had other plans.

Surprise! He was the pilot of my flight.

The bigger surprise was the adventure that followed after the plane landed.

Carter was dangerous and always on the move.

Even though our connection was magnetic, I knew it was only temporary.

He would give me tickets, and I would follow him around the world to exotic places.

A bevvy of flight attendant exes and rumors about Carter’s reputation were never far behind.

I didn’t know what to believe.

But I was addicted. Nothing else mattered anymore. And I was going to get hurt. Because a part of me wanted to be the one to finally ground the playboy pilot.

At the very least, he was taking me on a thrilling ride.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Kara's Review

After reading Playboy Pilot, I’m truly convinced that the writing duo of Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland is magical. They just have “it.” Their collaborations are some of my favorite books. Playboy Pilot was outstanding. Fantastic. Incredible. Everything about it was just perfect. The writing it top notch. The characters well developed. The plot fresh and unique. One of my favorite books of 2016! I was laughing by page 3 and pretty much laughed my way through the entire thing. It wasn’t only haha humor, there was hee hee humor too. And of course, the dirty talking pilot. Sweet Lord. Every time he opened his mouth I was panting. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Carter is a sexy as sin pilot. He spots a little blonde woman an airport bar and there’s just something about her. He can’t help but flirt with her which just seems to fire him up. Kendall is at a crossroads in her life and she needs time away to figure out what’s next. She’s buying a ticket and going on an adventure, she just doesn’t know where to. Carter makes a suggestion hoping she’ll catch on, but not knowing if she’s going to choose the same destination as he. Turns out she did! Her adventure now becomes their adventure. And oh what a ride! They open up to one another more than they ever have. There’s just this unspoken connection that they can’t deny. The sexual tension is off the charts. Their chemistry is blazing inferno. Their fun time adventure quickly turn serious and they can’t seem to say goodbye. When Carter’s playboy past keeps showing up, will Kendall be able to trust in Carter or will she run? Carter is a different man with Kendall. He doesn’t want to go back to jumping from bed to bed. That’s not who he is anymore. Can he convince Kendall that he’s really changed? I cannot even express how much I absolutely loved this book. It’s…I…can’t…even. Carter isn’t just a pretty face in a sexy uniform. The man is effing hilarious! He has a dirty, filthy mouth, but he’s sweet, kind, loving and has a heart of gold. Kendall is beautiful, funny and wants to be a better woman. She’s learning who she is and what she wants out of life. This story just got to me. There was a deeper, soulful meaning behind all the jokes and banter. There are signs everywhere you just have to stop looking for them. You only get one life, don’t waste it! I laughed, cried, swooned, laughed more, cried more, got mad, yelled, cried again…you see where I’m going with this. All the feels people. All of them! I bow down to Vi and Penelope. We’re just not worthy!

“Now give me a dam kiss already. I’ve been good for two days. No way in hell I’m letting you walk out of my life without a little taste.”

“Let me talk to my woman.”
“Your woman? You have a woman you own around here somewhere?”

“I’d like to own you. You keep standing there much longer in that little rinky-dink towel, and you’re going to feel how much you own me in about two seconds.”

“You’re their bingo bitch.”

“Pipe down, Perky.”

“The cougar caller.”

He shook his head, but I could see the corners of his mouth twitch.

“You’re their PILF.”

“PILF?”

“Pilot I’d like to fuck.”

“Apparently, I don’t need the car. I can pick up hot little blonde chicks at a Bingo Hall.”

Holy Fuck! This book is on my list of Top 2016 reads! I can’t get enough of this writing duo. I just know that I will going on one crazy ride when I start one of their books. I loved Cocky Bastard and Stuck Up Suit but I am in love with Playboy Pilot. I fell for the characters instantly and when they met I knew it was going to be pure craziness…

Kendall has some decisions to make. Life-changing ones but at this moment she needs to pick a destination. She needs to get away so she can think clearly without her family’s influences. She could go anywhere, really but after meeting a swoon-worthy, smooth talking, funny as fuck, sex on stick man in a leather jacket she is headed to Rio. She didn’t expect to ever see him but there he was at the Rio airport in a pilot’s uniform. At that moment, she had a feeling her life was about to change…

Carter has had many adventures flying around the world as a pilot but when he saw Kendall in Rio, he knew this could be the best one yet. When he first saw her in the airport lounge, he sensed that she was different but after seeing that she choose this place, he knew she was. She might not know it yet but he was going to show her this was exactly where she needed to be. He didn’t know why she was running away but he wanted to get to know her and not just between the sheets which both scared and excited him. She made him happy and he hasn’t truly felt this way for almost fifteen years.

Carter and Kendall start their adventure in Rio but it doesn’t end there. Something was happening between them. They didn’t know exactly what but they wanted to find out. Kendall still had time to make her decision and she didn’t want to walk away from Carter. And he didn’t want her to either. He wanted her. They have only known each other for a short time but he couldn’t imagine his life without her in it. They made each other laugh. Open up. And feel a bit crazy. But, is it too good to be true? Carter is after all a playboy. He has been with many woman including more than a few flight attendants. Carter wants to prove that she is different from all the others. Can Kendall get over Carter’s playboy past and see a future? What is going to happen when they are back to reality?

I am in love with Carter and Kendall. Not gonna lie, I might have a bit of a girl crush. Kendall might have grown up in a wealthy family but she is grounded. Carter didn’t see that at first and I didn’t either but once he saw her adventurous side, he saw that she was beautiful inside and out. But, money can have a way of tearing people apart even if their love seems magical. And she has to make a decision that will affect not only her future but her mother’s and now even Carter’s if he wants to be with her. And Carter certainly does want her. I love the way he shows it throughout the book. He is hilarious, confident, playful and a bit crazy. A wonderful kind of crazy! He surprised her when it came to his life outside of the cockpit. He is one beautiful man and I don’t just mean his sexy dimpled chin either. He is the total package. ***Swoon***

Overall…this adventure was amazingly hilarious, sexy, and emotional. It gave me all the feels. I laughed so hard. Carter’s bluntness mixed with his dirty mind made me love him. But his big heart made me fall in love with him. Then there was my girl crush. Kendall is kickass, funny as hell, and even with the seriousness of the situation she was in, she was still able to have fun and to find herself. Together, their flirty banter is on point, their chemistry is hot, and their hearts are beautiful.

I can’t wait to see what Vi & Penelope have for us next!

Quotes:

“I have this theory. If you think about almost any given moment in life, there’s a Beatles song that can describe it.”

“How was your flight, Perky? Did you enjoy the ride I gave you?”

“Praying?” “Do you always breathe like that when you’re praying?”
“It’s an intense prayer.”

“Carter? What are you doing?”

Shit.

I laughed under my breath and banged the back of my head against the wood. “Praying?”

“Do you always breathe like that when you’re praying?”

“It’s an intense prayer.”

“What are you really doing?”

“I think you might know what I’m really doing, Kendall.”

“Can I come in?”

Still fully erect, I tucked my cock back into my pants as best I could before opening the door.

Her eyes trailed down to my massive erection. “I’m sorry….to make you resort to that.”

“It’s okay. My hand and I haven’t spent time like this since I was a teenager. I think he missed me.”

“What were you thinking about?”

“You.”

“Yeah…but what specifically?”

“It was this fantasy of fucking you on the dance floor back at the club.”

She looked down at me again. Her expression was serious when she asked, “You need some help?”

“I thought you said we weren’t going to go there.”

“I can’t have sex with you. But I want to touch you. I could take my clothes off, let you finish what you started. You know…help you.”

Looking up at the ceiling, I shook my head. “You have no fucking clue, do you?”

“What do you mean?”

“How crazy you make me. There’s no halfway with you. Jerking off with your naked body right in front of me…not being able to do what I really want to you…would be torture. I don’t have that kind of willpower, not with you, not anymore. Even when I kiss you, all I can think about is burying myself inside of you. But you naked in front of me? Too much, Kendall. When you strip down for me, I want it to be when you’re ready to let me have you. Otherwise, it’s better if I don’t know what I’m missing out on.”

Looking filled with remorse, she waved her hands. “Okay. I get it. I’m sorry…for interrupting.”

“Go back to bed. I’ll be right there.”

After Kendall left, I closed my eyes in regret. Was I crazy for turning her away like that?

Now that she knew what I was up to in here, I couldn’t relax. Still needing release like a motherfucker, I turned on the shower and got in. Ironically, I jerked myself to thoughts of her naked body against the bathroom door and imagined she was watching me.

Fuck my life.
