From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new forbidden, enemies-to-lovers story…

It all started with an unexpected phone call.
Two years after my fiancé passed away in an accident, his father died suddenly, leaving Brad’s adult, special-needs brother with no one to care for him.
The next thing I knew, I was on a cross-country drive to New Hampshire where I’d be moving in to look after Scottie until I could get him into a group home.
The last thing I ever expected?
I wouldn’t be taking care of him alone.
Josh Mathers, my fiance’s best friend—who also happened to be my sworn enemy—insisted he was the better person for the job. He told me to go back to California, and I told him where he could stick that demand.
Our disdain for each other wasn’t anything new. It dated back to a text I’d accidentally read years ago.
We hated each other. But we both loved Scottie, so neither of us budged.
Now we were living together in a tiny house—with one available bedroom. Thank goodness it was only temporary.
Over time, I realized the broody jerk I thought I knew was different than I’d imagined.
I found myself slowly growing attached to someone I once considered the enemy…and growing attracted to him.
Sure, both of us were guilt-ridden over Brad. We were also two grown people with pent-up frustration toward one another—stuck in a cabin in the woods.
But this was Josh.

I could never.

Josh sat at the table, casually having coffee as I walked into the house after my drive home from the salon. The smell of cigarettes emanated from him. He hadn’t smelled like that since the first day he arrived.
“Where’s Scottie?” I asked.
“In his room,” he answered without making eye contact.
I stated the obvious. “You smell like smoke.”
“Must be the firewood.” He brought his mug to his mouth.
“Bullsh*t. The pellet stove doesn’t emit any fumes.”
“Yeah. I caved and had one. Big deal.” He pointed toward the door. “I did it outside, though, while keeping an eye on Scottie through the window.”
“You’d been doing so well. What happened?”
He still wasn’t looking at me, and instead stared straight ahead. “Just human, I guess.”
Then something in front of him on the table caught my attention: pieces of ripped pages piled atop…my journal.
A rush of adrenaline shot through me. “Why do you have that?”
“It’s apparently your diary.”
“I’m quite aware of that.” My heart began to pound. “You were snooping in my room?”
He shot daggers at me. “Think, Carly. Of the two guys in this house, who is the one more likely to have been ransacking your room?”
“You were supposed to be watching him while I was at the salon,” I yelled.
“God forbid I take a piss in peace. Is it not bad enough that I’m showering with him now? Getting my balls tugged?”
I wanted to laugh, but this moment was far from funny.
“Scottie ripped those pages out?”
“The notebook is bright orange, like his iPad cover. Probably caught his attention. The drawer next to your bed was open, so he must have gone in there. I assume that’s where you kept it. Admittedly, I’d been letting him hang out in your room, but you sometimes do, too. I went to check on him, make sure he wasn’t doing anything bad, and found those pages strewn about.” A vein popped in his neck.
Josh was angry. Why? I should’ve been the angry one.
“Did you read it?”
“I only happened to see what was on the pages he ripped. I didn’t read anything else once I figured out what the hell it was.”
This is bad. Starting to sweat, I asked, “But how much did you see?”
He stood up from his seat and slowly approached me. With each step he took toward me, I took one back. When we could go no farther, he placed his arms on either side of me, leaning his hands against the wall. And I forgot how to breathe.
Fear. Arousal. Embarrassment. You name it, I was feeling it right now. Every emotion hit me at once.
His breath grazed my face. “How much did I actually see?” He paused. “Enough to know you think I’m an evil pig.”
Ugh. No. Now his anger made sense.
When he backed away, I walked over to the ripped pages on the table and sifted through them.
“It’s the last one, for reference,” he noted.
I read what I’d written the other night.

About On the 2

First rule of riding the subway:

Don’t talk to strangers.

Don’t even look at anyone.

But what if they’re grouchy and gorgeous and you’re sitting right next to them?

I always did like a challenge.

I want to turn that frown upside down, but he barely looks at me.

I take a chance and poke the bear, and to my shock, he plays along and growls back.

The more we meet on the train, the more I realize he’s not the uptight grump I first thought. Then one night, there he is—in my world, in my space…his tongue in my mouth.

Mind blown.

But I’m no fool. A man like Nash Roman doesn’t date a guy who sells suits at Macy’s.

Nash is prep school and Ivy League, and I’m night school while working two jobs to pay bills. Nash is fine wine, expensive restaurants and handmade suits, and I’m beer, corner takeout, and a lucky find at Goodwill.

What am I—street-smart Ethan Moreno—doing, playing in his world? This man is older than me, way richer than me, and has already made it clear he doesn’t believe in love. I should walk away. Instead, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Nash couldn’t care less if his father doesn’t think I’m good enough or if people gossip because we’re so different. I need to trust in him and us, but I’ve been burned before.

And just like the Uptown Number 2, sometimes you have to travel a different route to get to the final destination:

Forever.

5 out of 5 stars

On the 2 is Felice Stevens’ newest standalone m/m romance and I am here for it! Felice’s stories always make me laugh, cry, smile, get hot and bothered and give me hope. Ethan and Nash meet on the 2 train. Nash is older and grouchy and Ethan is young, talkative and happy. It’s the perfect New York story of opposites who randomly meet on the subway. Nash doesn’t want to like Ethan. He’s too young, too handsome. But he can’t stop thinking about him and waiting to see him the next morning. Ethan loves riling up the older man. He’s just being friendly, but damn if he isn’t attracted to Nash. They finally exchange names and when Fate steps in one night and they find themselves at the same bar, it is on! But then Nash is afraid what this means. He’s been so used to working and being alone and Ethan makes him feel things he’s never felt. He wants to be with him, but he’s scared. Ethan isn’t afraid to be with Nash. He wants him more than anything. They have crazy chemistry and more in common than they think. Nash doesn’t care about Ethan’s status or what anyone thinks, but Ethan does. He doesn’t want to look like he’s only with Nash for his money, because he’s just not. On top of this, Nash is still struggling with his relationship with his father who broke his heart when he was a kid but wants to make it right. When Nash realizes his life is better with Ethan, he will stop at nothing to make him his. Forever. I loved these two so much! Their sexiness, their banter, their humor. Just everything. I also love Nash’s friends, who are from previous books of Felice’s that I haven’t read, YET! This story has everything you want in a romance. Fun, sexiness, humor, friends, family, loyalty, lust and hope. Oh, and a happy ending!

New Release & Review – The London Chance, Lane Hayes

July 25, 2023 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Two strangers, an online dating app, and a chance at forever…
Chance

After months of online correspondence with a sexy businessman, we’re finally meeting in person—in London, no less!

Okay. It’s a casual meet-up. Nothing to get excited about. I fully understand that online connections don’t always translate in person. Roman could be pompous or worse…boring.

Wish me luck!

Roman

Dinner with my online “friend” doesn’t go well. I shouldn’t be disappointed. That’s life.

But just as I’m ready to write our peculiar acquaintanceship off, Chance turns up unexpectedly at a karaoke bar. Don’t ask what I’m doing there. I have no idea. However, I don’t mind at all. It feels like the universe is giving us a cosmic redo. Sure, Chance lives in California and my home is in the UK now, but this feels like the real thing. Something worth taking a chance on.

A forever chance.

The London Chance is an MM, bisexual romance featuring an American, a Canadian, a dating app, and an unexpected HEA.

The London Chance first appeared in the H2H Charity Anthology, vol. 6. This version includes an additional original short story.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The London Chance is Lane Hayes’ newest fun, strangers-to-lovers romance. A dating app that leads to a face-to-face meeting in London. Chance is there on business so what’s a few extra days to meet Roman, a guy he clicked with online. Only their first date is a big dud. Roman didn’t expect their date to be so boring. They were just too polite and dry. But when he sees Chance later that night, drunk and singing karaoke, it’s like the universe gave him a second chance at a first meeting. Now that they are actually being themselves, it is on! The only problem is, Chance lives in LA and Roman in London. Will they make it work for love? Oh man do I love this couple! This is a short novel, but it didn’t feel like it. It is fun and sexy and full of friendship and laughs! Loved the bonus story!

Release Blitz & Review – The Setup, Kristen Proby

July 18, 2023 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

The Setup by Kristen Proby is now live!

From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby comes an all-new novel, The Setup, in her Single in Seattle series, featuring Keaton Williams!

I’m a sucker for pretty things. Give me a roaring engine in a souped-up vintage muscle car with cherry red paint and brand-new leather interior, and that’s about as pretty as anything I could ask for. I’m a simple man, who doesn’t need or want the kind of wild celebrity that my father has. I restore one-of-a-kind vehicles and sell them to the highest bidder. Usually, that bidder just also happens to be a celebrity.

But no matter how often my cars steal the spotlight, staying out of it is my number one priority.

Which is why Sydney Sterling is absolutely out of the question.

She’s a country music superstar. She’s in the spotlight. People can’t get enough of her.

It doesn’t matter that our one night together was hotter than a full throttle muscle car, or that she’s the most incredible woman I’ve ever met.

I. Need. To. Stay. Away.

And I was doing a great job of just that until our friends set us up on a blind date, and now here I am, sitting across from the only woman who made me want more. How am I going to handle the fact that the rest of the world wants her almost as much as I do?

And do I even have a choice in the matter?

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Setup is the fourth book in the Single in Seattle series by Kristen Proby. It’s a spin-off to the With Me in Seattle series. You don’t have to read that series to fall in love with their children’s stories. You will totally want to though… I read most of them and plan to read the rest.
Keaton might be part of one of the biggest celebrity families but he doesn’t want to be in the spotlight. He did that once and will never do it again. Did the one night he shared with Sidney Sterling hot AF? Hell yes. But that was all it could be. A one-night stand after a wedding. They knew they would see each other again one day since she was going to be part of his family soon but he didn’t expect this…
Sidney needed a break after touring the country. So it was perfect timing when her soon-to-be SIL wanted help with her wedding in Seattle. Who she didn’t expect to see that first night was the man who made her tingle head to toe. She didn’t have a plan. No plan on when she was going home. No plan about what she was going to do in Seattle. On thing she did know… she still wanted him.
It’s a whirlwind of a romance and I absolutely here for it! I laughed, I swooned, I got frustrated, I cried. It so much fun! It’s always good time to back to Seattle and visit with this group. Xoxox

Roommate Not Wanted

I’m a forty-year-old homeowner and former detective. My friends think a roommate is the solution to my recent funk, but I know that’s the last thing I need.

And even if they’re right, sharing my home with Cal is a bad idea. The prickly SEAL rescue diver has muscles for miles, haunted eyes, a wounded soul, and wandering feet that won’t be happy for long in Safe Harbor. Yet those fathoms-deep blue eyes have me making an offer I’ll surely regret.

Our arrangement may be doomed, but Cal is an amazing roommate. We’re soon cooking my mom’s favorite recipes, watching terrible TV, accidentally cuddling, and trying not to cross the line from friendship to fling.
Until I discover Cal’s sexy secret.

Boundaries blur, and I forget I’m not supposed to fall for Cal. Every kiss, touch, and discovery we make together pulls us deeper until there’s no denying our feelings.

I want nothing more than to keep Cal in town, in my bed, and in my heart, but Cal seems destined to swim back to his solo ways.

Can I bear to let him go, or will our love make him stay forever?

MAKE ME STAY is a hurt/comfort roommates-to-lovers MM romance. It features two mature, wounded heroes, disability rep, a proud pansexual, a SEAL having a demisexual awakening, and sexy discoveries involving rope. Deep feels, dual point-of-view, and big fluffy HEA guaranteed.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Make Me Stay is the second book in the Safe Harbor series by Annabeth Albert. I love Annabeth and her books and I’m loving this series. We already know and love Holden and I couldn’t love his story more if I tried! He’s the class clown, the friend quick with a joke. He was also injured on the job and is in a wheelchair. He’s a professor with a popular podcast and an all-around nice freaking guy! Cal, and ex SEAL is called in to help with the case. He’s an expert diver and a grumpy, broody man. Holden and Cal don’t get off on the right foot, but after a small accident, Cal needs a place to stay and Holden has an extra room. They couldn’t be more opposite, but sometime between sharing a meal and a bad reality TV dating show, they get closer. One chance encounter with some rope (hottest scene I’ve read in a long time) and they strike a deal. Cal needs a certain something in the bedroom and Holden is the perfect man to help him with his desires. Cal never thought he like being told what to do so much. He just wants out of his own head. His past is haunting him and Holden makes him forget. Holden can’t believe his luck. The sexiest man he’s ever met wants him for him. Sees past the chair and the jokes and wants just the man. Cal’s just in town temporarily, but desperately wants a home and family but doesn’t know how to ask for it. Holden wants Cal to stay, but is afraid to ask in case he says no. Will they both admit how they feel before it’s too late? I freaking loved this story! It’s funny, sexy, and sweet. Full of real emotions, friendship, pain, sadness, hope and love. I’ve really connected to Monroe, Knox, Holden and Call and I can’t wait for Sam and Worth’s story!

Baxters Right Hand Man Cover

The Baxter Chronicles, Book 2

The movie star meets his match…

Pierce

Welcome to Hollywood, baby! Perhaps you’ve heard of me. I play Baxter, the adventure-seeking, crime-fighting hero, adored by fans around the world. Nice gig, right? My job has its perks for sure—private jets, a chauffeur, and the best tables at the fanciest restaurants in town. It’s nuts!

Downside—it’s hard to know who you can trust.

But I trust Lorenzo. He’s funny, sweet, and very real.

Look, I’m not in the market for anything serious. Between my greedy brother and the old man who claims we’re related, I’m a little wary, but I could use a friend.

And a sexy distraction.

Lorenzo

What is happening here? Major movie star, Pierce Allen wants me.

Me!

I don’t get it. I’m too fabulous and he’s too famous.

No, wait. He wants something from me, like my help and maybe my body. This should be a no-brainer. However, closing the last chapter on a long-term relationship has left me feeling a little fragile, and the last thing I need is to risk another broken heart.

But I’m too intrigued to walk away. I can play the part of Pierce’s “right-hand man” and keep things light and friendly. No problem.

I’m way too smart to fall for a movie star.

I hope.

Baxter’s Right-Hand Man is a MM, bisexual romance featuring a sexy, slightly egotistical movie star and the adorable diva who brings him back to reality.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Baxter’s Right-Hand Man is the second book in the Baxter Chronicles by Lane Hayes. I love Lane and her books! This is Pierce’s story. He’s famous, handsome, sexy and plays Baxter on the big screen. A chance meeting with a sexy man, Lorenzo, has Pierce thinking about forever instead of one night. Lo never thought in a million years he would ever meet Pierce Allen let alone have him invite himself over and actually want him. But life is crazy sometimes. The more time they spend together, just having fun, the more they want. But Pierce is in the spotlight and Lo isn’t. Could they actually make it work? Oh man! I love these two. They are so fun and sexy and sweet together. They both have families who weren’t supportive so they understand each other well. I loved seeing Seb and Trent again! Overall, I laughed, teared up, smiled a lot and didn’t want it to end.

Excerpt:

“So…you’re here. In my apartment.”

“I guess I am.”

“This is weird,” Lorenzo mumbled under his breath.

“Do you want me to leave?”

He shook his head as he gathered some ingredients and set them on the counter. “Don’t be silly. I invited you.”

“Actually, I invited myself when you bragged about this soup.”

Lorenzo chuckled. “That’s true.”

“Can I help?”

“Do you know how to make a salad?”

I cracked my knuckles and made a production of rolling up my sleeves. “Dude. I am hands down the world’s best salad maker. Ever.”

Lorenzo raised a brow. “Here you go…lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, pepitas, avocado. Do you like those ingredients? Wait, before I attempt to feed you, are there any allergies I should know about? I don’t want to accidentally poison you and end up on the news.”

“Everything sounds good, and no allergies,” I declared, picking up the cucumber and smacking it on my palm.

“No playing with the cucumber, sicko. Here’s a bowl. Knock yourself out.”

I studied the lettuce and frowned. Tear or cut? Cut…probably. I reached for the knife he’d left on the cutting board and tried to decide where to start chopping—middle or end?

“Am I supposed to wash this first?”

“I did that already. But you do need to wash your hands.”

Right. I obeyed and spent more time than necessary drying them methodically as I peeked over his shoulder to watch him stir meatballs into broth.

“Smells good,” I commented.

Lorenzo quirked his lips in amusement. “You don’t know how to make a salad, do you?”

“Uh…I just haven’t done it in a while and the last time I did, I opened a bag and called it a day.”

“You can’t fail at this. Just chop everything and throw it into the bowl.” He squeezed my elbow and winked. “I believe in you, Pierce.”

I released a beleaguered sigh. “All right. Here goes nothin’.”

“So…did you happen to see the photo of us with the hunky firefighters on social media?” he asked as if to break an impending silence.

“No. Is it good?”

“Of you? Yes. I’m not sure how I got in the shot. Or how I ended up being called your assistant,” he huffed with mock annoyance.

My grin split my face in half. “Really? You work for me now? I like the sound of that.”

Lorenzo rolled his eyes. “I bet. My friends were freaking out. Don’t worry. I assured them it was the product of a weird confluence of coincidence.”

I let out a low whistle. “Confluence of coincidence. I’m gonna have to look that up. Um…I hate to ask, but do your friends know I’m here?”

He laughed. “No fucking way. First of all, I wasn’t sure you’d show up. Second, they wouldn’t believe me, and third…no offense, but…you’re not my type.”

I gasped and gestured behind me. “I’m gonna need help pulling that dagger from my back. What’s wrong with me?”

“Nothing at all. Your straight quotient is a tad high, though.”

I snorted. “I’m not straight.”

“No, but you probably like classic rock and have a thing for fast cars.”

“Well, yeah. So?”

“That’s…nice.”

I snickered. “By nice you mean…yuck. Right?”

“Don’t be so defensive. To each his own.” Lo smiled and pointed at the mess of lettuce in front of me. “Cut that a little finer.”

“Bossy, bossy,” I grumbled without heat, loving the melodic sound of his laughter.

We worked quietly, side by side, but it wasn’t a soothing form of silence. Not for me anyway. The air crackled with unspoken questions. What was I thinking? Why do I have butterflies? That sort of thing.

Seriously, I was a little dizzy, and my stomach felt wonky. There was nothing wrong with me, other than having a bad case of the stupids. It took a beat for me to recognize the signs for what they were.

I had a fucking crush on this guy.

That was so…weird.

Review Tour – Something Unexpected, Vi Keeland

July 7, 2023 | Posted in Blog Tour, Review | By

Title: Something Unexpected
Author: Vi Keeland
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 3, 2023

BLURB

When my grandmother found out she didn’t have long to live, she embarked on a crazy trip—jumping out of airplanes and scuba diving with sharks.

After I repeatedly voiced my concern, Gram blocked me—her own grandson—on text and social media, leaving me only her travel companion Eleanor’s number.
Eleanor started sending me pictures of Gram’s adventures. At first she seemed nice, but when I attempted to persuade her to talk some sense into her friend, she told me where I could stick my advice. After that, photos arrived with snarky comments, and Eleanor and I got into it on more than one occasion.
When I heard Gram’s upcoming plans were more dangerous than ever, I hopped on a plane.
Since I arrived late, I headed to the bar for a drink, figuring I’d surprise her in the morning.
To my delight, I met a gorgeous woman looking for a no-strings-attached night. Nora was just what I needed. She invited me back to her room, telling me to give her a ten-minute head start. But when I went to pay her bar tab, I realized how much she’d had to drink. As much as I wanted to ignore it, I couldn’t. So I stood Nora up.
I knew she’d be pissed, but I also knew I’d never see her again.
Except never came a little early. Namely, the next morning when I went to meet my grandmother and her evil-spinster friend. Because old Eleanor turned out to be young Nora from last night. And if I thought the woman disliked me before, that was nothing compared to how ticked-off she was now. Or how unhappy she was going to be that their party of two was about to become a party of three.

This is one of the most emotional books I have ever read and I am shook. Wow. Just wow. Something Unexpected is the perfect title for this story. I know I have said it before and I will say it again… This is my favorite Vi Keeland book!
Beck and Nora met at a hotel bar. What they didn’t know was that they had been texting each other for weeks. To him, she was the infuriating woman his grandmother was traveling with. To her, he was the uptight grandson to the friend she was on an adventure with. They didn’t see eye to eye but they both very much cared about Louise. And Louise wanted to live like she was dying… because she was.
I don’t want to spoil anything about this epic story. I can say that I laughed hard. I cried harder. I swooned. I melted. I laughed some more. I want my own Louise! She is a spitfire. Beck is broody, swoony, and his innuendos are on point. Every time. I am in love. Nora is independent, sweet, sassy, and her and Louise are best friends goals.
This story is inspiring, heart-wrenching, beautiful, and one I will never forget! It makes me want to get back to my own bucket list. It’s one of my favorite books of 2023!

Something Unexpected is Vi Keeland’s newest romance. This is the perfect name for this story! I didn’t expect to fall in love with Beck immediately. I didn’t expect the characters to be so real I didn’t expect to love this story so much! I know I say this every time, but this is my favorite Vi Keeland book! It has everything you want in a romance. Lust, laughs, spice, bickering foreplay, friendship, family, sadness and hope! I was invested in Beck and Nora’s story. I laughed, cried a lot and know this story will stick with me for a long time! It’s a definite re-read for me!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Lunamare is the first book in the Luna Duet by the ever-talented, Pepper Winters. If you follow my reviews then you know I don’t read the blurb until after I finish the book. I love going in totally blind especially when it’s a story like this one. Epic. Poetic. Forbidden love. Twists and turns. And when Pepper states fans of The Ribbon Duet will love this story, she was right about this fan. I absolutely loved that duet and loving this one! I don’t want to spoil anything so I don’t want to get too much into the story.
The moment Neri saved Aslan from the sea, she knew he belonged to her. She was only twelve but all of her instincts told her that he was her everything. At sixteen, Aslan was saved by a girl. One he vows to protect. Even from herself. Year after year, he protected her. From the sea. From herself. From him. Her love only got stronger and stronger as each year past. Year after year, his secrets were getting closer to the surface. One day changed his life, one night could ruin it…
This story is only the first part of their story, and I can’t wait for the rest! Thank god Pepper isn’t making us wait long. I am obsessed!! This story spans for a lifetime and I am here for it. The forbidden love. The age-gap. The darkness. The family. The secrets. It’s everything.

New Release & Review – A Love Catastrophe, Helena Hunting

June 16, 2023 | Posted in New Release, Review | By

The fur is about to fly between a cheerful cat sitter and a grumpy hockey nerd in this hilarious and charming rom-com from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting.

Kitty Hart has become internet famous as the Kitty Whisperer for her expertise on all things feline, and as a result, her cat-sitting business is booming. But lately, she has a terrible feeling that maybe her life isn’t quite going where it’s supposed to—especially after falling face-first into her newest client. Not exactly the best first impression.

Fortunately, Miles Thorn is just as bad at first impressions. Strike one: he doesn’t like cats, especially Prince Francis, the haughty and mischievous Sphynx his mom left in his care. Strike two: tackling her to the floor in a misguided attempt to save the pet he continually calls “the gremlin.”

As awkwardness slides into attraction and things start to turn purr-sonal, will these two complete opposites ever be able to find their furry-tail ending?

Kara's Review

4.5 out of 5 stars

A Love Catastrophe is Helena Hunting’s newest fun and quirky rom-com. I love Helena and her books and this one is very entertaining and quite funny. I’m not a lover of over the top slapstick humor, so there were a few times where I just said “yikes” and kept going. I really love Miles and Kitty was fun. There was also a lot of emotions, and some deeper topics happening around the fun that balanced out the humor. I loved their meet cute and enjoyed their fun love story. They were supportive of each other and once they got over the silly antics of how they met, they were just too cute!
