Release Day & Review – Tagging Up, Carrie Aarons

September 24, 2021 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Tagging Up by Carrie Aarons is now live!

All Anna Callahan wants is her independence.

Being the youngest member of her immediate family, and massive network of cousins, she’s always been sheltered. That ends now. After graduating with her masters in nursing, she’s ready to move out of her parents’ house, whether they support that decision or not. While wallowing in the guilt of that choice at the local bar, she bumps into the one guy she shouldn’t go near.

A player for her family’s team and her cousin’s best friend, Clark should come with a warning label. Not only because he’s the league’s number one playboy, but because he’s significantly older than her.

Unfortunately, they can’t seem to keep their hands off of each other. That initial night together leads to scorching glances across public parties, secret hookups in hidden places, and way more than either of their hearts bargained for.

But being with Clark means lying to those closest to them. When their secret is finally discovered, it sends the already skittish bad boy running for the hills. And although she claimed to want freedom with no strings, Anna can’t help but feel the sharp pull to be with him forever.

Clark Nyle swore a long time ago he’d never be committed to anyone.

After watching his mother ruin his father through adultery and abandonment, he knows that love is for masochists and he certainly isn’t one. Baseball and living life like every day’s a party are his only two passions.

Then his father dies, and he’s forced to question everything. It leads to a barstool, too many drinks, and into the backseat of his car with the one woman he should never have touched.

Now that he’s gotten a taste of Anna, he can’t stay away. Even if their secret affair comes with way too many consequences. Her family owns the team he plays for, not to mention his best friend would cut off his balls if he knew what they were up to. Plus, he doesn’t want anything long-term, and eventually he’s going to break her heart.

But the more time he spends with her, the more he seems to want a different future than the one he always planned on. Until they’re found out, and he’s forced to choose between his demons and the disapproval of his closest friends … or her.

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Tagging Up is the fifth book in the Callahan Family series by Carrie Aarons. I do believe this is the last book in the series but there is potential for more so here’s hoping! Each book can be read as standalone but I recommend reading the series since they are all unique in their own ways.
Clark was there drowning his sorrows. Anna was there after losing a patient. Two single friends. A little bit too much drinking. Some pent up lust. This book starts out with a bang and I am here for it.
Clark knew it shouldn’t have happened. Anna is his best friend’s little sister. She was off-limits and he was so not a relationship guy. He never went back twice. And he has known Anna since she was only sixteen. She was too young for him even if she was twenty-three now and he was thirty. She deserves someone who could give her more than one night. She was beautiful, sweet, witty, and didn’t let anyone especially him bullshit her. She told it how it was. And now, Anna was telling him that she is a woman who knows what she wants and it’s more sex with him. Without strings. Without telling her cousin, Walker. It’s none of anyone else’s business.
Anna was tired of everyone treating her like a child. A fragile child who can’t make her own decisions. She was a nurse for f*ck’s sake. She might be the baby of the family but she wasn’t some kind of princess. She was a badass who has wanted Clark since she was seventeen years old and if sex was all he was willing to give, she will take it. In the bathroom. In bed. In a plane. Up against the wall. You get my point. But she also wants to show him that he is good enough. He deserves more. But what will happen when feelings latch on?
I have been slowly falling for Clark throughout the series and his story was so worth the wait! This man has layers. He isn’t just the team playboy and fun guy. He is so much more. And Anna, I love her too. Together, they are fire and complications. It’s one hell of a ride!
Quotes:
I will never, not until the day I die, forget the look on his face when he stepped into me and grabbed the back of my neck. It was possessive, so fucking hot, and like he knew exactly how I wanted to be kissed.
My soul must be floating somewhere up above my body, because I swear I just died. Fucking died and went to lust heaven, because holy Christ, Clark Nyle is dirty talking to me.
“You have no idea how good you can be.”

Author of romance novels such as Fool Me Twice and Love at First Fight, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. A former journalist, she prefers the love stories of her imagination, and the athleisure dress code, much better.

Sandra's Review

[user=5]

The Virgin Replay is the third book in the Rules of Love series by the ever-talented, Lauren Blakely. I am loving this series full of ballplayers and badass babes. You can read each one as standalone but I recommend reading the series since it’s fantastic! And Grant and Declan’s story (Men of Summer series) is also connected. If you have read any other books then you have met Sierra (Grant’s sister) and Chance (Grant’s teammate). I have been waiting for this story and it’s so worth the wait x10.
The bro code. You know, aka the guy code. Don’t touch a friend’s or teammate’s sister, daughter, mom. Hell, even cousin. You don’t want to mess with friendships or chemistry on the field.
Chance never had an issue with this code. He was married to his college love for ten years so he was never tempted to break the code. Any code. But over the last year after a very public divorce, he has been thinking about it. Sierra Blackwood was a temptation. A beautiful, smart, baseball-loving bar owner who make him weak in the knees. The problem? She was his long-time friend and teammate’s little sister. That didn’t mean he couldn’t ask her to be his fake date to a wedding they are both attending anyway, right? That’s not breaking any rules, right? Not like anything is going to happen.
Sierra was married to her bar. It was her baby. She worked hard to get where she was today. She didn’t need a man to keep her happy but that didn’t mean she didn’t have secret crushes or wicked desires. With him. So, when he asked her to be his fake date for a Hawaiian wedding? She couldn’t say no. And she hoped he wouldn’t say no to her question. She knew he was the one she had been waiting for but would he bend the rules for one night? It’s not like they would be a thing. It would be a fling. That’s all. No-strings attached. It’s a win-win really. But, what will happen when they have to go back to reality?
So delicious!! Sexy, passionate, sweet, and filthy. I just love these two. Sierra knows exactly what she wants and Chance is a fabulous listener. I loved their friendship over the series. It was build-up to this. Everything. They are fun, hot, spontaneous, and beautiful. They just did it for me. I can’t wait for the next book!! 🍒
Quotes:
We won’t rock the boat either.
We’ll rock the bed instead.
“You like it a little hard? A little dirty?”
Her breath comes in a harsh pant. “I do. I don’t want to be treated like a flower. I want to be treated like a woman. Like a woman who’s not breakable.”
“Kiss me hard. Kiss me ruthless.”
5 out of 5 stars

The Virgin Replay is the third book in the Rules of Love series by Lauren Blakely. This series is so freaking good! We have already fallen in love with Chance and Sierra throughout the series, and now we get to watch them fall for each other! Ever since Chance became single, there has been a sizzling attraction between them. He goes to her bar with his teammates, but sits at the bar and chats with her. But she’s totally off limits because she’s his teammate’s sister and he’s not willing to risk ruining his relationship with Grant, Sierra’s brother. Chance is a good guy and he likes to follow the rules and do the right thing. Sierra is a temptation he’s willing to bend the rules for. He needs a date to his cousin’s wedding, a fake date of course. And it turns out Sierra also has something she wants Chance for. She doesn’t have time for relationships, she’s too busy making her business the best it can be. Sometime in the Hawaiian sun, things stop being fake but are still only going to be temporary. Even though they both want more, neither one is going to admit it. And then it’s time to put all feelings on the table and take a gamble on love. Oh man! I love this forbidden, friend’s sister love story! It’s sexy, sweet, fun and addicting! We get to see all our faves and I love every minute I get to spend with Chance and his friends and teammates!

Blurb:

A virgin, an athlete, a fake romance, and only one bed in the hotel room.

Following rules shot me to the top of my game as an all-star baseball player, and the golden rule is this — don’t hookup with your teammate’s sister.

But ask her to be your fake date when you desperately need one for a family wedding? Nothing in the guy code against that. Plus, the flirty, feisty Sierra’s my friend too, so why the hell not pretend we’re madly in lust for two days in Hawaii?

No hardship in a make believe kiss here, a fake smooch there, as long as we don’t cross any dangerous lines.

Then, the hotel books us into the same suite. Which means she’s showering near me, putting on itty bitty bikinis in the same room, sliding into that king-size bed wearing only a black lace cami.

But I resist…until the night she tells me she’s been waiting for me to be her first. And there’s nothing fake about my desire to say yes, even though that’s definitely against the code. But, maybe only if someone catches feelings? And neither one of us will.

Until I do…

Release Blitz & Review – The Lies We Steal, Monty Jay

September 23, 2021 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Release Date: September 23

It’s been months since the day we stood above that empty grave that stunk of burnt flesh and secrets. All of us were dressed to the nines, one of us wearing a wedding dress, a day that was supposed to mark the beginning of a new adventure.

It marked the bitter end of our vengeance.

We have done things that have marked our souls for eternity.

But before we get there, we have to go back.

Back to where it all started.

The place I could find in my sleep.

Hollow Heights University in the macabre, somber seaside town of Ponderosa Springs.

A college for prestigious, wealthy children to receive the highest education. A town drowning in treachery and secrets that became our damnation.

But it wasn’t the forest surrounding the grounds or even the mysterious hidden mausoleum that haunted me.

It was them.

The ones that lurked in the night, things so wicked, so twisted, so evil, they would become the rulers of my nightmares.

The Hollow Boys.

One wrong move and I landed myself directly in their line of fire.

This is not a story about love, it is not a story of happy endings.

Love just happened to blossom in our sorrows, in our pain, our fear, our blood.

Every terrible thing they ever did, we watched, we helped, we loved them anyway.

Some run from their monsters, we fell in love with ours.

The Lies we Steal is the first book in the Hollow Boys series by Monty Jay. I have read all of Monty’s books and I fell in love with this enemies-to-lovers story, hard. I was warned it was going to be dark and that just made me want it more. I crave darkness and this book delivered.
Briar grew up a thief. She was trained to pickpocket, break into safes and do anything she had to to survive. And now she was in a different world. Hollow Heights U in Ponderosa Springs on the seaside of Oregon. She went from a girl living in a trailer park in Texas to a girl living in a dorm room in one of the most elite colleges in the country in one of the richest cities. She just wanted to be invisible and have a fresh start where nobody knew her name. It didn’t take long for that to go to s*it. The moment he locked eyes with hers, she knew he was trouble. And when they spoke, she knew she was f*cked. He was the exact kind of boy she needed to stay away from. He would bring her into the dark…
Alistair only cared about three people. Silas, Thatcher, and Rook. Three of the most loyal friends anyone could ask for. If you saw one one campus, there was another one next to them. Usually all four. Everyone is town knew The Hollow Boys, and everyone knew to stay out of their way. That was until her. Briar didn’t cower, she thrived in Alistair’s stare. From the moment she didn’t walk away from him, he knew she was different. He hated her for it. And after one night that changes everything, he was going to ruin her. The Hollow Boys were out for revenge and she wasn’t going to f*ck that up.
OMFG! This story is total badassery. From the boys to the girls involves. Four psychos, all with different personalities with one goal. I love Alistair and his intensity and loyalty. He may seem like he has a black soul but I guarantee you will fall. And Briar, she is a true badass boss. Together, these two are explosive! I also started to fall for the other boys. I have my favorite already. It was love at first read. Haha. I am excited about the next book after a little sneak peek. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favorite series’.
Quotes:
He sheds his suit jacket, tossing it onto the desk, while he takes his time rolling his sleeves up to the elbows. All of this a part of the mental game he plays.
We were a good contrast, he and I. He was cold and calculated. I was instinctive and hot-blooded cruelty.
The perfect pair of sociopaths.
There was just something about Alistair Caldwell that made me panic. Something inside of him was so dark, so damned, that it called to the deepest parts of my soul.
“Can’t have you forgetting who you belong to. I told you Briar,” He breathes, “you’re mine.”
“I’m gonna rip that silver fucking spoon right out of your mouth just to feed you back all your territorial bullshit.”
“Little Thief, there is no spoon. I learned to lick wealth from knives.”

Inmate of the Month

Souls Chapel Revenants MC Book 7

Lani Lynn Vale

Release Date: September 21, 2021

About the Book

A porn video changed his life.

One second, he has an ex with an ax to grind, and the next, he’s internet famous—and definitely not in a good way. In an, it’ll ruin your career, kind of way.

Only, Laric didn’t know that he was internet famous.

Not until a black-haired beauty walks into his life, and stumbles over every word that she says because all she can picture is him doing the unthinkable for the world to see.

Sadly, that’s not the only thing wrong in his life. His world is messed up, and he likes it that way.

There’s no room for a woman that wants to fix him.

Because fixing requires intimacy, and intimacy isn’t something that Laric does. Not after the life that he’s lived, and the things he’s done to survive. Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that he’s a felon, and he has no regrets about how he got that title.

The last thing he needs in his life is a woman that has her head in the clouds and thinks this world is made of butterflies and confetti.

However, Catori isn’t who she seems.

The day she meets tall, dark, and handsome, he saves her life. And then never leaves—though not for his lack of trying.

Not that she’s complaining about the way they’re thrown together, time after time. She’s more than willing to have a man like Laric around. Mostly because she’s already seen the good in him that he refuses to admit that’s there.

He may be a biker that does questionable things, but in her heart, she knows that he does those bad things for good reasons. And she’s not about to throw away the chance at happiness just because he thinks he knows what’s best for her.

Plot twist: she knows what’s best for her. And that’s him.

God help her.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Inmate of the Month is seventh book in the Souls Chapel Revenants MC series by Lani Lynn Vale. I am loving this series and we are finally getting Laric’s story! He’s been a mystery for a few books now. Recently finding out he’s Lynn’s son and not knowing how to handle that situation. He’s gotten to be good friends with the guys and when he saves Catori’s life the first time he sees her. But it’s not the first time she’s seen him. Oh boy. He’s the man she saw in that ahem, video where she couldn’t stop watching. Now he’s going to protect her and soon he never wants to let her go. Catori never expected her stalker to take things this far, but now she’s shacked up with Laric, so it’s not all bad. After a few days with him, she doesn’t ever want to leave. She really likes his friends, who are more like family and he fits in with her family perfectly. Is it too soon for declaration of love and forever? Heck no! I loved Laric and Catori. I laughed out loud, loved the tension and am looking forward to the next one!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Rebound is the fourth book in the Looking to Score series by Kendall Ryan. You can read each book as standalone but I recommend you read the series since they are all so much fun. Saint has been no saint during the series and that is probably why I like him so much!
Saint needs to get his s*it together off the ice or he wouldn’t be on it much longer. The tabloids love him and it affects the team. It’s now the off-season and he needs to stay low. He thought he would be miserable but then he saw her. His hot new single and very pregnant neighbor. At first, he just wanted to help her. She was new to town and moving into his building. From the moment they spoke he knew they would be friends. She had a quick wit and just got him. One day turned into a few weeks of hanging out. Then he walks in…
Kinley didn’t expect Saint to end up being her only friend in Boston. He was hot and single and could be going out every night and bringing women back to his place. Instead, he wanted to hang out with her. She was enjoying their time together until her brother,  Reeves walks in and makes everything awkward. Now, she had to make a choice for her and her baby boy. Apparently, Reeves and Saint are not friends. At all. Does she friend-zone Saint or tell her brother to mind his business after all the help he has given?
This story might just be my favorite in the series. Saint is so unexpected. Yes, flirty but so much more. I just loved them together and felt so invested in their relationship. It’s a fun, sexy, and sweet ride.
Quotes:
“You coming?” Goddamn. This woman knows exactly what she’s doing. I slide a couple of dollars onto the stand and follow her lead. I can’t wait to see what she’ll do with a cucumber.
“We had dinner plans.” Kinley gives me an unimpressed look.
“I don’t remember making plans.”
I feign confusion. “I distinctly remember you saying that I could eat you out any night of the week.” Kinley flushes a bright shade of pink, holding the door open wider.
“Oh my God, Saint. Shut up and get in here before he hears something.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“When I’m ready, you’ll be the first to know.”
“You know where to find me.”

New Release & Review – Jerk It, Lani Lynn Vale

Jerk It

Madd Crossfit Series 2

September 7, 2021

About the Book

Mavis always assumed that she would be in a hospital with the good drugs when her time came. Not in the middle of the road, with no one around but the damn town mechanic that hated her.

But there she was, having a rock star’s baby, with no one to rely on but the one that let it be known around every turn that she was a horrible person.

From the time that she met Murphy and became best friends with him at the age of eight, she knew he was destined for greatness.

But then her grandmother fired Murphy’s mom, forcing them to live on the streets, and making Murphy to realize that maybe they weren’t best friends after all.

Murphy loved Mavis.

At least, he had when he was younger, before she betrayed him.

From that moment forward, Murphy goes out of his way to stay the hell away from her, and always makes sure to never get too close. Even though everything inside of him screams to make contact.

When he moves back to town after being gone for five years, he tries his best to stay away.

But there she is at his CrossFit gym. Then having a baby on the side of the road. Oh, and breaking him a little more with each step she takes away.

Eventually, they find their way back to each other. The only problem is, by the time that Mavis makes her way back into his heart, it breaks. And not in a rhetorical way. In the ‘he only has days to live’ kind of way.

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Jerk It is the second book in the Madd CrossFit series by Lani Lynn Vale. I’m loving this series so far! We met Murphy and Mavis in No Rep and I loved their hate for each other! Now we get to see where it all comes from. They were friends when they were younger and Murphy felt betrayed by her. He moved away and now he’s back but he wants nothing to do with her. But that’s not exactly true. There’s a reason he wants her to stay away from him. But their attraction is too much. The more time they spend together the more the hate turns into red hot chemistry! It’s all foreplay and banter and barbs. When Mavis finally finds out why he tried to push her away, she vows to be there for him every minute after that. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t think it was going to end ok. I cried big fat tears. So much so that I had to stop reading because I couldn’t see. It broke my heart, then healed me then broke it again. I’ve never cried this much during a Lani book. It was SO freaking good!! Murphy is so imperfect he’s perfect. He’s not super muscular or ripped, but he’s so handsome and nice and funny. Mavis has flaws and I loved everyone of them. I love reading about characters who don’t look like models, but the love they have for each other is fierce. Already looking forward to the next one!

September 7, 2021 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Hard to Love by K. Bromberg is now live!

New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, is back with a heartfelt, enemies to lovers romance and a hero who redeems himself to steal your heart . . .

He was the one-night stand that didn’t exactly go as planned. Now he’s standing before me as if he’s never seen me naked, telling my manager he’ll take the job. Reluctantly. Finn Sanderson. Sports agent extraordinaire. Handsome as hell. The man who just signed on to control my every move. Sure, I’m to blame for my recent bad press, but when your whole life has been so regimented, isn’t it normal to want to live it up a little? But when the partying stops and the grief I’m running from has nowhere else to hide, reality sets in. Turns out, Finn’s the only person I have left to help pick up the pieces. The only person to call. Staying with him is a temporary thing. But when our fighting turns into laughter and our friendship turns into something more, will I fight for a man who swears he’s hard to love? Or is it wiser to walk away? To follow the plan? * * * Offering to help with a client is a way to repay a long overdue IOU to my mentor. Little did I know she was the woman who left my hotel room at four in the morning. Stevie Lancaster. Top-seeded US tennis player. Good girl gone bad. The woman currently about to throw her career away. And now my problem. The compensation to “babysit” her is great, but she isn’t worth my trouble. But when her world falls apart and she has no one else to turn to, I try to be a good guy by gathering her up and hiding her from the media’s eye. Now she’s in my house, in my space, and even though I’m enjoying the side benefits of this unexpected arrangement, surely she’s better to leave when the time comes and follow her destiny. Because I’m not the man she needs. Not the man she could love. Right?

Kara's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Hard To Love is the fifth book in the Play Hard series by K. Bromberg. I love nothing more than a good enemies to lovers story, but one where the hero has totally redeemed himself and stolen my heart? Yes, please! Finn. My Lord. I loved not liking you. And now I love freaking loving you. You stole the series and you delivered on every one of my expectations. You have a smart mouth and you were kind of a jerk, but you are so sweet and caring on the inside. And you had your reasons. Then here comes Stevie with her sexiness and her equally smart mouth. You know what they way about love and hate. Stevie just doesn’t need someone, she needs Finn. And he shows up. Helps her. Keeps her safe. While they get to know each other in and out of bed, Finn’s heart begins to thaw and he thinks maybe what he thought about women and love his entire life is wrong. Stevie didn’t mean to fall for Finn, but she did. It was inevitable. But what happens when she has to leave his safe space? Will Finn follow her or let her go? This is more than a love hate story. It’s about letting your guard down and trusting someone. It’s about letting yourself feel the pain and move on. It’s about embracing the hurt and making new memories. Finn is just delicious. I didn’t think I would fall so hard and fast for him, but I did and I’m not even a little sorry. Stevie is the perfect heroine. She’s strong, smart, talented and vulnerable. She didn’t need Finn to solve all her problems, she just needed time to figure out what she wanted to do with her life and Finn gave her the space to do it. Overall, I loved it! I laughed, cried, got hot and bothered and didn’t want it to end. It’s my favorite of the series and one of my favorites of Kristy’s and I’m not sorry about that either!

Excerpt

After two days as his bodyguard, I was ready to throttle my principal my own damn self.  I was also covered in more sweat and filth than I’d been on my worst day ever in Afghanistan.  The duchess, meanwhile, seemed as pristine as the moment we’d landed, of course—and unfairly fucking gorgeous, not that that mattered. But then again, he hadn’t been the one schlepping all of the supplies on and off buses, up and down half-broken stairs, and into a stifling storage room at the back of the small medical building where we’d be spending the next month of our lives. No, that privilege had been all mine ever since he’d brilliantly pulled the “grandfather card” on me. It was a card he’d been slapping down at least once an hour since we’d left Tennessee. “Grandfather would be upset if I got a hernia.” “Pretty sure my grandfather wouldn’t want me coming home after only a day because I strained my back hauling boxes around.” “I would hate for you to get in trouble with your boss if I slipped and fell into that rocky ditch.” “I wonder what my grandfather would think about a former Marine who was afraid of a little physical labor.” That had been the straw that had broken the camel’s back, as I’m sure he’d intended. You didn’t throw down a challenge to someone’s service branch like that. It just wasn’t done. Besides, hauling his shit kept my hands too busy to throttle the fucker… or to kiss him. And that was becoming more and more necessary as this interminable day wore on. I had thought being a jerk to him at his grandfather’s house would have helped me keep my distance from him. It would be easier not to be tempted by the beautiful, successful man if he hated me. But instead of being an asshole back to me, he was an enticing kind of passive-aggressive. He acted like he was sweet as pie while he pursed his lips in false disappointment for having to force me to do all the grunt work. The doctor was diabolical. And it only made me want him more. I’d watched him at the gala. The adorable way he joked with the bartender and the kind manner he had with the locals were enough to attract my notice even before I’d discovered he was my principal on this job. But he was off-limits, so I needed to shut my attraction to him down and shove it away if I wanted to stay on my boss’s good side. As I re-entered the main room of the clinic, I heard Carter’s cultured voice speaking to Eriko, the man who’d welcomed us to the Doctors Across Continents facility in the rural town of Gelada. “No, no, getting here on our own was no problem! Mr. Riggs—oh, and please make sure you call him Mr. Riggs, because he really enjoys that—that man is never happier than when he’s useful. Carrying things is literally his favorite activity! Many a time I’ve tried to encourage him, ‘Mr. Riggs, please put down the box! That’s too heavy!’ but he simply refuses. ‘I’m enjoying myself too much, Dr. Rogers!’ he’ll say, and then he’ll pick up more boxes. So by all means, if you have heavy things to be moved, please don’t hesitate to ask.” Eriko murmured a reply I couldn’t hear over the gritting of my teeth, and Carter laughed lightly. “Oh, no. He’s not really my manservant, per se. More like a man who serves as… my assistant. And of course he’ll be happy to help transport any patients who can’t get here on their own! I daresay he’d enjoy the challenge. A few more notches on his heavy-things-I’ve-carried belt! He’s good for the physical tasks, not so much the…” He glanced up at me innocently when my boots made a sound on the floor. “Oh, speaking of the devil. Mr. Riggs, I was just telling Eriko that you’d love to help retrieve any invalid patients who need help getting to the center. Isn’t that right?” The look on his face begged for a solid love tap from my fist. But at the same time, the look in his eyes—teasing, intensely intelligent, just like he’d been at the bar that night at the Licking-Nuthatch Gala—made me want to tap… other parts of him. Parts that would land me in serious trouble with Champ or possibly on the unemployment line, if my distraction didn’t land us in danger first. I could not afford to like this guy. “I think it makes more sense to stay here and assist you, Doctor. Remember the problems you’ve been having with your…” I glanced at Eriko with a grimace. “Digestion? I’d hate to leave you alone in case it comes roaring back.” Carter’s eyes narrowed the slightest bit. I’d made up the part about the digestion problems.  Or, okay, I hadn’t made them up so much as transferred them from me to him. “Yes, right,” he said, rather than correcting me. “You do like to clean the toilets as soon as I’m finished. Thank you for the reminder.” He turned back to Eriko. “Such a helpful boy. Don’t know what I’d do if he fell off the side of a cliff. Or whatever. Anyway, we should be ready to begin receiving patients at seven tomorrow morning. Hopefully we can prioritize the people who need to get to work.” As Carter  listened to the local man, who at this point looked like a deer caught in confused headlights, I got the lay of the land. We were in a fairly large room, maybe twenty by thirty feet. The building was made out of cement blocks, which actually provided a little break from the heat of the day. Large industrial fans that looked like they were several generations older than Eriko blew from two corners of the room, creating some much-needed ventilation. Two windows on either end of the room were covered with thick iron bars for security, and there was a similar metal security door on the front and back of the building. They were currently propped open to keep the air moving. Several locals had already poked their heads in and asked if the clinic was open yet. “The bedroom is just there,” Eriko said, gesturing to the other door at the back of the building. I glanced over at the small room, replaying his sentence in my mind until the word “bedroom” turned plural from wishful thinking. “There is a pallet on the floor for your helper.” I tilted my head at him. Was he trolling me?  Carter’s sparkling eyes suggested Eriko was being sincere. “Excellent! I’m sure Mr. Riggs will appreciate your kindness.” Eriko looked very pleased. He informed Carter that someone from the community would be stopping by with our dinner and we were welcome to spend the rest of the evening setting up for tomorrow’s clinic. “We are very grateful you are here. The people of Gelada have to travel very far to see a doctor. Many of them do not have money for the bus. When you come with your supplies and medicines… well, we are truly blessed.” Carter’s face softened. Suddenly, I could see the doctor behind the snarky duchess. “It’s my pleasure. Thank you for having us.” As soon as the local man was gone, closing the outer door and making sure Carter locked it from the inside, Carter’s smile disappeared. “Aw. Someone looks like he’s having a grumpy day,” Carter remarked with fake sympathy as he passed me. “What’s wrong, Mr. Riggs? Not enough box carrying for you?” “Just thinking that this pallet looks like it’s going to hurt your back.” I folded my arms over my chest. “Might consider hitting up the med cabinet before hitting the hay, Duchess.” Carter didn’t even turn around and look at me. He simply said, “Duchesses don’t sleep on pallets, Mr. Riggs. This is well-known.”

5 out of 5 stars

Hijacked is the first book in a new series, Licking Thicket Horn of Glory, by Lucy Lennox and May Archer. No matter what is going on in my life, how busy, stressful or in the weeds my life is, I always, always make time for Lucy’s books and her books written with May! They always make me laugh out loud, fall in love with new characters and remember why I love the previous ones. Ya’ll, this is a spin-off of Licking Thicket and it’s so freaking fantastic! We know Carter. We love Carter. He’s smart, handsome and hilarious! Riggs is hired to protect him on a Doctors Across Continents and he’s not too happy about it. But Carter surprises him by being nicer, stronger and sexier than he originally thought. Carter is attracted to his bodyguard, but he’s just a job to him to he needs to stop it. Until one night when they can’t sleep and one things leads to another. (um, so hot!) When they find themselves in some trouble with a drug lord and far from their base camp, they have to work together to get out. Trust, honesty and a whole lot of fun! I am loving the start to this new series! I literally had to dab the tears of laughter from my eyes and then fan myself. Dear Lord, Riggs and Carter are so much fun and so hot together! I loved every word and I can’t wait for the next one!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dare Me is the second book in the Dare to Try series by Ella Frank & Brooke Blaine. You can NOT read this book without reading Dare You beforehand. I am loving these two. So much!

Bash and Kieran’s relationship is complicated to say the least. First of all, Kieran has never felt the kind of pull to a man until Bash came into his life. Bash was a man who is meant to be noticed and Kieran sure noticed. It was all unexpected. Both men don’t know what will happen between them. Bash was only on Chicago on business and when he goes home to Safe Haven he doesn’t have the answers. Kieran sure the hell doesn’t either if you read the first book then you know why…

Bash spent time in Kieran’s world and now it was time for Kieran to spend time in Bash’s! One place is a big city, the other a small island town. One was full of danger while the other was full of fabulousness. Both full of family and friends. What will happen when it’s time for Kieran to return back to reality?

Omg!! The cameos are amazing!! And of course Bash and Kieran’s story. These two are fire! 🔥 It’s a good thing Kieran knows how to use a big hose 😂. Ok, wow, I am a twelve-year old boy inside. But after being with these two the innuendos keeping on coming…I just love them. They are not only hot but funny and sweet too and have so much fun. I can’t wait for the next book!

Quotes:

“That’s not what… I didn’t… You’re twisting my words.” Bash rubbed his temples. “I can’t think straight. Maybe I need another drink.”
“Babe, you’re never thinking straight,” Shaw said. “Don’t blame the champagne.”

“Honey, we were born to stand out. The question is whether we should go topless.”

“Okay, okay. Well, fuck, chalk this up to conversations I never thought I’d have with you, but let’s start at the beginning. Can’t have you givin’ the Bailey brothers a bad name.”

5 out of 5 stars

Dare Me is the second book in the Dare to Try trilogy by one of my favorite writing duos, Brooke Blaine and Ella Frank. I am so in love with Kieran and Bash. I fell for them when they were just fun side characters but now that they are the leading men, swoon! In Dare You, we got to see them meet and traverse Kieran’s world in Chicago. Now they are in Bash’s home of South Haven. Kieran gets to meet Bash’s friends (Hello my lovers, how I’ve missed you all). Kieran gets to be himself and more open than he was in Chicago and he gets to see a side of Bash that makes him fall even harder. Now that they have admitted they both want more, what happens next? Holy crap, I can’t wait to find out!

Blog Tour & Review – The Aristocrat, Penelope Ward

Title: The Aristocrat
Author: Penelope Ward
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 30, 2021
BLURB

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

The one that got away. Every girl has one, right?
Mine was a charming, British aristocrat who turned my world upside down one summer.
From the moment I first spotted Leo in the distance through my binoculars, I’d been captivated. I certainly never expected to find a man showering outside of the property across the bay in his birthday suit.
Then I noticed his housemate staring back at me with binoculars of his own—watching me watching Leo.
That made for an interesting conversation starter when I inevitably ran into them.
Turned out, the handsome Brits were only renting that house for the summer in my seaside town.
Leo and I formed an instant connection, even though we were technically opposites by all appearances. I taught him how to dig for clams, and he taught me that not all wealthy and powerful guys are pretentious.
Despite knowing he was totally wrong for me, I couldn’t seem to stay away.
It was a wild and crazy few months. And before I knew it, we’d fallen in love.
We both had one wish: more time together.
But Leo had obligations back home. He lived a life I’d never fit into. And I was going to law school. So, we decided to end it and never look back.
A part of me always felt like I’d let my soulmate walk away.
I believed our story was over.
Until five years later when he sent me a letter that shook me to my core.
I’d thought my world was turned upside down that first summer?
Well, I knew nothing yet.
