Blog Tour & Review – Tease, Melanie Harlow

July 14, 2022 | Posted in Blog Tour, Review | By

I didn’t mean to say I was engaged to a hot billionaire–it just slipped out.

TEASE, an all new steamy fake engagement, small town romantic comedy from USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling author Melanie Harlow, is now available!

I didn’t mean to say I was engaged to a hot billionaire–it just slipped out.

In my defense, I’d had a really bad haircut, a really strong drink, and I was trying to save face in front of the Mean Girl at my high school reunion.

Lucky for me, I happen to know a hot billionaire. Hutton French and I have been friends forever, and even though big social gatherings are not his thing, I called him from the coat closet and begged him for a favor–show up and play my fake fiancé for the night.

Except that word of our engagement spreads like wildfire. Our families are ecstatic. We’re front page news. My little food blog is launched into the stratosphere.

Of course, I offer to set the record straight right away, but Hutton wants to give it a little time–the phony engagement will keep his matrimony-mad mother and every matchmaking granny in town off his back.

He even suggests I move in with him to make the ruse more real.

And we don’t stop there.

We practice kissing. Undressing each other. Saying things–and doing things–we’d never dare if we weren’t pretending. Because it’s all for show, right? We’re just role-playing. Hutton doesn’t want a real relationship, and I don’t want to get hurt. But the more time we spend faking it, the more I start to wonder.

Could Hutton French and I actually be right for each other, or is it all just one big tease?

5 out of 5 stars

Tease is the eighth book in the Cloverleigh Farms series by Melanie Harlow. You can read each book as standalone but I recommend reading the series since interconnected. And this is the third book in the second generation! It’s time for Mack and Frannie’s daughter, Felicity to find her happily ever after.
Felicity wasn’t part of the it crowd in high school so she really wasn’t looking forward to her high school reunion. She was only going since she was catering the appetizers. She knew she would be running into the mean girl but what she didn’t expect out of her mouth was telling her that she was engaged to a hot billionaire. Not only a hot billionaire but her best friend, Hutton. It was time to send out the bat signal and get him to the party. The lie was only supposed to be for an hour tops but she should had known it would be all over time by morning…
Apparently, everyone knew this was going to happen. Fifteen years of friendship and never once had they crossed the line but nobody was shocked by their engagement except them. They had to go through with this. It had its benefits. It was only going to be for a month. No big deal. Some hand-holding, some kissing, some make-believe. And it was make-believe until it starting feeling too real. They had a plan. No one would get hurt. It was just some fun but could it really be more?
Holy. Hotness. It was always the quiet ones, right? Hot damn, Hutton is ridiculously nerdy hot. Felicity and Hutton always saw each other but now, it was more intense, emotional, and right. I loved these two. They are both adorable and sexy AF. They made me swoon, laugh, and cry! I can’t wait for the next book.
P.S. Make sure to get the bonus scene!
Quotes:
“I could practice undressing you.”
“I definitely think you should,” she panted.
She was familiar to me, and yet she was a revelation.
“Those heels have been driving me crazy all night. I want to do such bad things to you in those heels.”

Release Day & Review – Love Lessons, Sarina Bowen

July 12, 2022 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

He needs an image makeover, she needs a mojo upgrade. A new lessons-in-seduction hockey romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

After I’m arrested for throwing a raucous party, my hockey team says I have an image problem. And I need to fix it, stat.

Charity work? Check. Haircut? Sure. But I draw the line at hiring my neighbor to style me. In the first place “style” shouldn’t be a verb. And I’m tired of people who’d judge me on appearances.

Vera and I don’t see eye to eye on anything. She wants me to try on clothes, while I just want to remove hers. She’s distractingly pretty, with soulful eyes and a sinful mouth that likes to argue with me.

But when management threatens my summer vacation, I grudgingly agree to Vera’s unusual proposal: she’ll give me an image makeover. But in return, she wants lessons in the art of seduction.

It sounds a little nutty, but I know a good opening when I hear it. Besides, it’s not like I’ll ever fall for her…

5 out of 5 stars

Love Lessons is the seventh book in the Brooklyn series by Sarina Bowen. This is a lessons-in-seduction romance between Ian and Vera. They are neighbors and don’t even really like each other. Vera is friends with Charli and the other girls and she’s accompanying them with their sexy hockey player boyfriends to Italy for a two week vacation. Leading up to the trip, Vera and Ian keep crossing paths. They can’t help but always argue, but there’s a slow flirty simmer just underneath. Ian wants to rip off Vera’s sexy fancy clothes and she just wants to slap him. But when they are the only people not coupled up in Italy, they end up spending more time together. Relaxing, drinking, flirting. When Vera tells Ian she needs lessons to seduce her ex-boyfriend, he’s more than happy to help her. Turns out she doesn’t really need to learn anything. She just needs to relax and turn off her brain. Then it is on. It’s sexy and fun. They get to spend the entire trip together. The days arguing and spending time with their friends. The nights in her bed exploring each other. What happens when they are back in NY? Does the summer fling end? Holy moly! I loved Ian and Vera! They are such opposites but they just mesh together. All the fighting is foreplay! Overall, I laughed, cried, smiled a lot and had to fan myself. Sarina just keeps giving us hockey hotties to love!

Audio: Joe Arden and Rose Dioro were fantastic! This was my first time hearing them together and I loved the pairing of his sexy, deep voice and her clear, powerful one. I’ll be listening to more dual POV from Joe and Rose!

Dirty Christmas is a novella in the Slayers Hockey series by Mira Lyn Kelly. This story has some of my favorite things: Christmas, hockey and Mira! I instantly fell for Noel and Misty. They were so much fun together and since they were stuck, they made the most of it. After all, it is Christmas. It’s a novella, but it gave me everything I love in a romance novel. And we get to see Stormy and Diesel and I can’t wait to see what happens in Dirty Groom! Also hoping we see Noel and Misty again!

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

Dirty Christmas is a novella in the Slayers Hockey series. You can read it as standalone and if you haven’t read the rest of the series yet, you will want to. I already read Dirty Deal and there was a hint that something happened to Noel Nichols and Diesel over Christmas and now I know half of it…

Noel and Diesel were supposed to be on their way to Sin City when Diesel stole Noel’s truck and like his ass was on fire out of the airport. Only to stop at an apartment complex in a small town. That was when Noel saw her and proposes within a few minutes to a beautiful and funny woman who loves mini-marshmallows in her hot cocoa. He didn’t even know her name. But for real, they spend Christmas Eve together. Noel finds Misty to be witty, beautiful, funny, and he wants more. Now, he just has to convince her that he is only a player on the ice and not off it. Will Misty give him a chance for Christmas? And what happened with Diesel? You will find out in Dirty Groom!! I can’t wait.

Quotes:

“So enough about them. Who are you?”
I laugh. “Um, not interested.”
This guy has player written all over him. Not my thing, hot or not.

“No boyfriend?”
“Really? We’re engaged, and you ask me this now? No.”

“Look at you, beautiful.” Noel walks a slow, assessing circle and bites his bottom lip, giving this tree bedroom eyes so sexy I’m embarrassed to admit I feel a flutter in my belly. “Tall, full backside. I just want to run my hands over—”
“Noel, do you need a minute alone? Or do you want to get your hands out of her branches and cut her down?”
“Jealous?”

Level Up is the second book in the Reigns Brothers series by Kindle Alexander. If you read Secret then you have met Chad as Dylan’s son, and if you read Breakaway then you know Ducky as Dallas’s brother. Now, it’s their time to find love.
Chad and Ducky have been friends for years even though they have never met in person. Chad is a golfer and Ducky is techy but they are both gamers and that is where they started their friendship. They are best of friends but when Chad sees Ducky on an award show he doesn’t recognize him. Ducky ‘s transformation was a total shock to the system. He had a crush on the man for years but this other side has made him want to tell Ducky his truth. Not because of Ducky’s new look but because he needs his best friend right now more than ever. And it turns out, Ducky needed him too.
Two weeks in paradise. Time to reflect on careers, friendships, and love. Chad and Ducky are both going through changes and feeling a void in their lives. This was the time to figure out what that void was and fill it. Was the answer in front of them the whole time?
These two!! So yummy! Hey are from two different worlds but met in the gaming world and it’s where it all started. I knew I was going to love these two but it was more than I expected. I hope to see all these characters again someday.
Quotes:
“Every girl here’s been hitting on Ducky all night and all he does is stare at you.”
“I love your eyes,” Chad confessed, further seducing Ducky with his pretty words. “When I close mine, I see yours.”
“I’m gonna kiss that smirk off your face,” Chad threatened as if that were a real punishment.
“My ass is smirking too,” Ducky teased challengingly.
5 out of 5 stars

Level Up is the second book in the Reigns Brothers series by Kindle Alexander. I’ve been waiting for Ducky’s story since we met him. He’s Dallas’s brother and part owner in StreamTrainer. Chad is Dylan’s son from Secret. Ducky is more comfortable behind the computer and with his online friends. But when he needs to present an award, he asks Greer for help. He didn’t realize that help would be a personal chef, new clothes and hardcore working out. He even decides to cut off all his gorgeous curls. Ducky isn’t comfortable with all the new attention. Chad has been friends with Ducky for a long time. He’s always had a crush on him, but thought he was straight. When Ducky asks Chad to go to Hawaii with him for two weeks, things heat up between these best friends. Neither thinks the other is interested. But when they both realize the attraction and sparks are mutual, it is on! And I was there for it. I loved watching Ducky and Chad fight their attraction and then give in. It was all foreplay and sexiness. And when they go all in, they really go all in. They aren’t going to waste any more time apart. They just have to realize what they want next in their lives. Together. I really loved this story! Ducky and Chad were so much fun and so perfect for each other. Sexy and funny and smart. I loved seeing old friends and wouldn’t mind seeing more from them!

“Kindle Alexander takes a caterpillar and molds him into a butterfly and both Chad and Ducky will become instant favorites.” ~The Overflowing Bookcase

Duncan “Ducky” Reigns, metalhead and hardcore gamer, has spent his life railing against the establishment. But now when he looks at himself in the mirror that’s not the person he sees. Though he and his brother have worked hard to create a successful multi-million-dollar company, he’s lost himself and his identity in the process.

Chad Reeves, successful in his own right, has achieved every goal he’s set for himself. But living up to the legacy of his uber-successful father feels like an impossible task. When the heavy burden of a lifelong secret begins to unravel, he’s forced to face the truth. He’s lacking in what matters the most and only one thing can make it right.

Sometimes a simple reboot is all it takes to realize the answers are right in front of you. A soul-searching trip to paradise changes everything for two best friends… if they are brave enough to follow their hearts and reach for the Level Up.

Compassion hinted in Teri Reeves serious expression. “Then who is he?” she asked as if it were a given next option.

Hell, maybe it was. She had lived with his father for eighteen years, knowing he was gay for most of that time.

Technically, her question should have made this easier on Chad, but it didn’t. With all the mean-spirited harassment he’d received from the kids in his high school when his father came out, and the untold amount of bullshit he’d had to deal with when their private family affairs began to be splattered all over the local news, made talking about a long-term relationship with another man anything but casual…

Whoa. Step way back.

Wait a damn minute. Long-term relationship? That thought had struck him like a blow from out of nowhere.

Wow, what a moment for an epiphany. He ran unsteady hands nervously through his hair. A long-term commitment from Ducky? Is that what he wanted?

Ducky had never given him any clue that he was anything other than a straight man. Not any of those telltale signs indicating interest in the same sex. The bigger problem was that Ducky hadn’t spoken to him in days. Not one word to all of Chad’s texts apologizing for his unguarded comment.

His heart dipped then fluttered, sending a shiver from his head to his toes and racing back up his spine again. He didn’t like Ducky ignoring him, not one damn bit. Anyone but Ducky.

“Ducky,” he finally whispered. Funny how saying the name out loud seemed to validate his feelings, giving him an inner boost.

His mother blinked then opened her mouth to speak. No words came as she blinked again, closing her mouth. Her head tilted quizzically, and her hand lifted about six inches from her head. She shook her fingers. He took it to indicate Ducky’s mop of curls.

First smile in days. “Yes. Except he’s changed, but I’m really into those curls.”

Chad reached for the cell phone in his back pocket, bringing up an image of Ducky that he’d saved from The Game Awards. He turned the screen to show his mother Ducky’s new look.

She pretty much had the same reaction he had. A moment of pure confusion as she stared at the screen before she took the phone from his hand, using her fingers to zoom in on Ducky’s face. “This is him? He’s very handsome, Chad.” Her brow wrinkled as she glanced up. “You two have similar coloring, but your hair’s darker now.”

Chad nodded and looked down at Ducky’s photo still on the screen. “He and I talk all the time. Mostly online and text, but it’s moved to phone calls now too. We’ve never met face-to-face, but he’s my best friend. I share almost everything with him, yet he didn’t tell me he’d made these changes to his appearance. That’s why I said it wasn’t him during the podcast. It caught me off guard.”

“Because you’re attracted to him?” she asked, looking at the screen again, tapping it to keep the photo up.

“I was attracted to him before he did all this. He’s a really good guy, Mom. Smarter than anyone I know. We’ve been friends since we were on Xbox Live together in early junior high. I think he surpasses Dad with his knowledge of code. Ducky can hack into anything. We’d all be online together and watch him do it when we were younger.” Chad took his phone from his mother, drawing her attention back to him. She needed to hear what he planned to say. “I’ve been dealing with my attraction to guys since way before Dad came out. Ducky was the first guy I was into. I’ve never stopped being into him. He’s funny in this unintentional way, but he laughs at himself. He’s real. The most real person I’ve ever known. I’ve never met anyone else like him.”

“I never had any idea you had these feelings. When I asked the question, I didn’t really expect this response,” his mom said in that way only mothers used when they spoke of the regret of missing something so big. “You were young. You must have been afraid and unsure.”

“Hell no, I wasn’t afraid. Sorry,” Chad said, ignoring the critical arching of her brow at the use of the swear word. “Do you think any child you raised could be afraid of anything?”

He pushed off the counter, tucking his cell phone back into his pocket. “I’ve been with guys, Mom. Lots of ’em. And that’s all I’m going to say so don’t ask me any questions.” He couldn’t contain the shiver running through him at the awkwardness of admitting even that much to his mother about his sex life.

“You’ve been with women, too. Right?” His mom stammered, clearly questioning everything she knew about Chad. “Don’t answer that. It doesn’t matter. How have I never known these things about you before? I tried to be an observant, present mother for your whole life. I love you.” She looked pitiful, causing Chad to give a good laugh as his mother took her seat and lifted her glass of iced tea, taking several long gulps.

“Mom, all of us are very well-adjusted. You and Dad are great parents. Kids don’t tell their parents everything. You know that. And it wasn’t easy on any of us to have Dad’s sexuality splashed out for the world to see. I get that social media doesn’t hold weight, but when your father owns a social platform that’s bought by a technology giant like Wilder and then those two men become a couple…the children involved are gonna get some backlash.”

“Oh, I need something stronger than flavored tea.”

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!
I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

Sandra's Review

5 out of 5 stars

The Scandal is the second book in the Single in Seattle series by Kristen Proby. It’s a second generation series and I am obsessed already. I love Kristen’s With Me In Seattle series so this series is the icing on the cake. The Scandal is Stella’s story, Nate and Jules’s only child.
Stella McKenna had a little too much fun at a bachelorette party last month in Sin City. She thought it was all fun and games till her and her friend find out their marriage was legit. They needed an annulment, stat. A meeting has been setup with a Grayson Sterling, with a name like that Stella assumed he was an older man in her friend’s law firm. She was dead. F*cking. Wrong. The moment she saw him, she melted. He was older than her twenty-five but he was no old man. He was a hottie who looked at her like he wants her for dessert.
The minute he saw her Sterling knew he life was about to change. She was not only beautiful but she was stunning, sweet, funny, and it felt like they had known each other for years. He hadn’t been felt this way about a woman. Ever. He had a lot going on with his life but he wanted to learn her. He also wanted to devour her in an elevator. He wanted her in every way.
I love this story. These characters. Everything. Grayson is swoon-y with an alpha side. Stella is so sweet and knows exactly what she wants. Together, their banter is so much fun and sexy and their connection is delicious. It was also so fun to catch up with Stella’s huge and fabulous family and to get to know Gray’s. I am so excited for the rest of the series.
P.S. Make sure to get the bonus content!
Quotes:
“I knew you had ink,” she says quietly. “And just so you know, I’m not sleeping with you on the first date.”
“Is that a challenge?”
She laughs a little and then shakes her head. “No, it’s the facts. Come on, let’s go get some pizza.”
“Well, now that you have me here, what do you plan to do with me?”
“I feel you looking at me.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You have an elevator fetish.”
“I didn’t,” I reply as we reach the first floor. “Until I met you.”

Release Blitz & Reviews – The Boss Project, Vi Keeland

July 11, 2022 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Title: The Boss Project
Author: Vi Keeland
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 11, 2022

BLURB

The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview.

Well, technically, I’d met him twenty minutes earlier when he’d barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment.
I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut.
As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss.
Yet he didn’t seem to recognize me. Or so I thought… Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.
Okay, so maybe I hadn’t exactly been changing when he walked in on me. In my defense, I’d been stuck on a hot train for two hours and wanted to make sure I didn’t smell.
I obviously didn’t expect to get the job. But somehow an invitation to a second interview arrived in my inbox.
Before I left, I asked to see Merrick. I needed to know why I was even in consideration after our disastrous start.
Turned out, Merrick only wanted to hire me because I was the least competent candidate. It seemed his board was making him fill the position, against his wishes.
I didn’t really want to work in a place where my boss expected me to fail. But I figured maybe I’d enjoy proving him wrong. It was a little thing I dubbed the boss project.
What I wasn’t prepared for was that there would be other things I’d enjoy doing to Merrick Crawford.
Getting involved with the boss wasn’t the smartest choice.
But you know what they say about choices: Some we regret, some we are proud of. I just had no idea where this one was going to land.

The Boss Project is Vi Keeland’s newest addictive, sexy, and fun romance. I don’t read Vi’s blurbs, I love to go in not knowing anything about what I am about to read. I do know that when I start, I will not want to stop. I fell for these two hard.
Evie was starting over and the day of job interviews was almost over. She was a hot mess so when a man opened the dressing room door while she was changing, it wasn’t her finest moment. She yelled. He yelled. She needed to move on to her last interview so she could go home to a glass of wine. Except, of course the man she just yelled out happened to be the man who was her last interview of the day. Yes, he was hot AF until he opened his mouth… the arrogance was strong with this one.
Merrick didn’t even want to hire a therapist for his hedge fund company but the board is forcing his hand. So, why not hire the woman who had the least experience and bickered with him from the start? It would prove she wasn’t needed. Except, there was one problem. He wanted her. Bad. He didn’t want to want her but she was beautiful, unique, and a bit crazy. She knew exactly how to push his buttons and he sure as hell wanted to push hers.
Merrick and Evie had their baggage but it was time to unpack it. I absolutely loved these two together, from start to finish. Their banter. Their connection. Their passion. The button pushing was flirty, fun, and hot AF. They made me laugh so hard, swoon too, and cry! It’s a roller coaster and I loved it even the twists. And I can’t forget about one of my favorite grandmothers ever. Kitty is a fucking hoot and a half. I want to be her when I grow up.

“You probably shouldn’t have told me you make these when you’re excited or angry. These cookies are the shit, and I’m really good at pissing employees off.”
“Some of the best times in life start off as bad ideas, my friend.”
“If it’s meant to be, you’ll come around when it’s time.”
“How will we figure out if the time is right?” His eyes darkened. “I guess we’ll know when my tongue is down your throat—or better yet, something else.”

The Boss Project is the newest sexy, fun and emotional standalone from Vi Keeland. I feel like I always say the same thing after I finish one of Vi’s books. ‘The book and the hero are my favorite of hers.’ I just can’t help it! I fell hard and fast for Merrick! And honestly, Evie too! Merrick is sexy, and intimidating, but soft and mushy on the inside. He’s also a total perv and a romantic. The best mix of things! Evie is strong, smart and tells it like it is. She’s been through too much to lie to herself or the people around her. The way they meet is freaking hysterical! And then she sees him again when she’s interviewing for a job. He wants to hire her because she’s not qualified and he doesn’t even want a therapist on his staff. She wants to take the job just to prove him wrong. Turns out he was wrong, she’s really fantastic at her job and he’s extremely attracted to her. But she works for him so he can’t touch her. The more time they spend together, the more they want each other. Both of them have exes who really did a number on them so they are leery to get involved again. They have fun together, they laugh, joke and flirt. Merrick smiles more and learns from her how to make his employees happier. They finally give in to their attraction (after they solve the working for him issue :)) and it’s crazy hot. They just fit together. Physically and emotionally. But when Merrick’s past comes back to get him, he shuts down and runs. Will he be able to tell Evie the truth before it’s too late? Oh man, did I love this story! Once I started I didn’t want to put it down. Merrick’s sexiness and the things that came out of his mouth had me swooning and blushing. They are one of my favorite couples of Vi’s!

Release Blitz & Review – Tease, Melanie Harlow

July 11, 2022 | Posted in Release Day Blitz, Review | By

Blog Tour & Reviews – The Anti-Fan and the Idol, Rachel Van Dyken

July 8, 2022 | Posted in Blog Tour, Review | By

Make it or break it… Or maybe just break them?

The Anti-Fan and the Idol, an all-new steamy and emotional enemies-to-lovers novella set in the My Summer In Seoul world from New York Times best selling author Rachel Van Dyken 1,001 Dark Nights, is available now!

Make it or break it…

Or maybe just break them?

Ai-Ri has been training under YK Management in Korea for two years without any results. She doesn’t fit the typical mold for a successful K-POP idol image, literally down to her blood type. She has six more months before college entrance exams which means she only has six months to make it as an idol before her dreams are crushed.

Things take a turn when two of the most famous male idols break away from their group and decide to form their own co-ed group, a rarity.

And wonder of all wonders, they need one more girl.

It would be the perfect opportunity, except she hates them.

They are arrogant, entitled, rich little snobs who want the world to worship the ground they walk on. To make matters worse, the only reason they came to her was because they are desperate, which means she needs to prove herself even more.

Tempers and personalities collide when she’s forced to either accept the position or give up on her dream.

But what happens when you suddenly go from anti-fan and enemy number one to stuck in a love triangle between two boys you were born to hate but are somehow falling in love with? And will the group survive the heartbreak that follows when she finally makes her choice?

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

5 out of 5 stars

The Anti-Fan and the Idol: A My Summer In Seoul Novella from Rachel Van Dyken is a fun, emotional and quick story in the K-POP world. After reading My Summer in Seoul I knew I wanted this book! Ah-Ri is running out of time to get her big break. Too bad it comes from Ryan and Haneul, jerks from her past. They have a short time to make it big. The first co-ed band. Failure is not an option so they have to put aside their differences and work together. Dance together. Sing together. Touch on accident, touch on purpose. Turns out they don’t hate each other after all, but it’s risky and they can’t afford to get caught. While they are practicing and getting ready, they all learn things about themselves. They laugh, they heal, they grow. And when it’s their time, they shine. Together. Wow! This short story packs a full novel punch. I was sucked in from the first page and didn’t want it to end. I hope we get to see these characters again!

5 out of 5 stars

The Anti-Fan and The Idol is a novella spin-off to Rachel’s My Summer in Seoul standalone. I am not a big fan of K-POP but these books are amazing and a glimpse into the world phenomenon. These are all-new characters!! This is their last chance. Haneul and Ryan are best friends and bandmates and they need this to work. A co-ed K-pop group. They only needed one more girl to accept the challenge and their last chance was a girl who wasn’t a fan. It doesn’t help that they have bullied Ah-Ri. She never backs down and that is why they want her. She is different. She is no quitter and they only have a limited time till the Showcase. It’s all or nothing at this point and when she accepts… it’s on. What they didn’t expect was to like her. To really like her and that was dangerous in their industry. I can’t really get into the story anymore than that but I can say that I laughed, swooned, and cried. The book is short but it’s an emotional one. It definitely packs a punch and I hope RVD writes more in this world. Quotes: “Anyone ever tell you how sexy you look when you curse?” he asks. My breath hitches. The lights suddenly go off in the dance studio. “Power outage?” I say. “Good timing,” he replies. “You were a bad idea from the start.” “And you were bad from the very beginning.” I lift my chin. “What could you possibly want?” she asks. “A small spoon,” I answer. “Like I said, NO ramyeon!”

How hard can it be to guard the country’s biggest rock star?
As a SEAL officer, I’m no stranger to danger, but running my own security firm is a new challenge. Finding the right bodyguard for each client isn’t easy. Our next gig? My little brother’s best friend, rock god Ezra Moon, has a security crisis. Ezra is convinced I’m the right man for the job, but I’m not so sure.

But there’s not a tour bus big enough to contain our incendiary attraction. Ezra and his antics push every last one of my buttons, but the real problem is how much I want to kiss some sense into him. He’s a client, and angry make-out sessions aren’t the answer. Yet we keep finding ourselves alone and burning up the sheets until our secret fling threatens to scorch both of us.

I’ve spent my whole life running from the spotlight, trying to distance myself from my notorious father. Ezra wants to live his best life on the biggest stage. A future seems impossible, but our feelings are undeniable. Can I admit how hard I’ve fallen for Ezra without losing everything?

5 out of 5 stars

Hard Job is the second book in the A-List Security series by Annabeth Albert. I’m loving this series with its sexy bodyguards and the men they fall for. This is Duncan and Ezra’s story. Duncan is Danny’s brother and Ezra is Danny’s best friend! It’s a sexy, forbidden, brother’s best friend and I loved everything about it. Duncan is retired navy SEAL and now he owns his own security business. He’s tough and stoic, but he really just wants to be needed, taken care of and for someone else to make the decisions sometimes. Ezra is a rock star who needs security and he only wants Duncan. Duncan is a huge fan of Ezra and his music. It might be rather large crush. He’s shocked to find out Ezra is also attracted to him. Close quarters and literally having to be with him 24/7 is going to lead to doing something he never thought he would. Get involved with a client. It’s very bad for business and his reputation, but the more the gets to know Ezra, the more he’s willing to take the chance. But can they really make it work? Will the spotlight be too much for Duncan? I really love these two! They are sexy, sweet, fun and perfect for each other. Ezra gets Duncan to relax and open up. Duncan gets Ezra to stop and take care of himself. They are perfect for each other. I especially loved the way they opened up to each other and really listened to each other. I loved watching them fall for each other. It was great to see Danny and Cash again and I’m looking forward to Harley’s story!

Merrick

“Mr. Crawford?” My assistant, Andrea, poked her head into my office while I was eating lunch with Will. “Sorry to interrupt, but HR asked me to find out if you might have time to talk with one of the candidates for the in-house therapist position?”

I shook my head. “I don’t need to talk to the applicants. I already gave my input to Joan. HR is holding second-round interviews and will let me know what they think when they’re done.”

“Apparently one of the candidates asked if she could have a minute with you after her appointment with HR. But her meeting is starting now, and I know you don’t like anything on your schedule during trading hours.”

“Which candidate?”

“Evie Vaughn.”

I leaned back in my chair with a chuckle. “Sure. Why not?”

She nodded. “I’ll let her know.”

Will lifted his chin after Andrea shut the door. “What was that little grin about?”

“One of the candidates for the stress therapist job is interesting, to say the least.”

“In what way?”

“Her first-interview appointment wasn’t until five one day last week, so when the market closed, I ran downstairs to Paloma to pick up a suit I’d bought and had tailored. After I left the store, I thought I’d forgotten my cell phone in the fitting room, so I went back to check. When I opened the door, I walked in on a woman.”

“I hate those places that have one fitting room for both men and women.”

“Actually, this place has separate ones. The woman was just in the men’s room. But that’s not the best part. When I walked in, she was half undressed…and smelling her armpit.”

Will’s brows shot up. “Come again?”

“You heard me right. Anyway, a few minutes later, my five o’clock appointment walks in, and it’s her. The woman from the fitting room.”

“The pit sniffer? Get the hell out of here. What did you do?”

“Nothing. I played it off like I didn’t recognize her, though she definitely recognized me. I could see her squirming.”

“Shit like this only happens to you, my friend. So what went down? How did the interview go?”

“She was the least-qualified candidate. I don’t even know how her resumé made it into the group that got called for interviews.”

“Yet she’s back here today for a second interview?”

“She is, indeed.”

Will shook his head. “What am I missing?”

“When I got home that night, I started thinking about how the board is shoving this position down my throat. They mandated that I hire someone, not that the person be competent.”

Will smiled. “Genius.”

I shook my head. “I need my people to be focused and ruthless while they’re here—not getting in touch with their emotions.”

“I hear you.”

As we finished lunch, Andrea returned and knocked. Evie Vaughn stood right behind her. Her wavy blond hair was up today, and she wore a simple black skirt and jacket with a red blouse underneath, giving her the sexy-librarian look every male fantasizes about at least once in his life. I tried to ignore the stir seeing her caused in me and forced my gaze down.

Andrea peeked her head in the door. “Do you need more time?”

I looked at Will. “We need to discuss anything else?”

He shook his head. “Not that I can think of. I’ll get the Endicott buy order placed as soon as it hits forty a share.”

“Good.” I turned my attention to Andrea. “Please show Ms. Vaughn in.”

Will left, tossing me a smirk over his shoulder as he passed Evie.

When the door shut, she took a few steps forward, then hesitated. “Thank you for seeing me.”

I nodded and gestured to the guest chairs on the other side of my desk. “Have a seat.”

“Your assistant mentioned you don’t usually take appointments while the market is open.”

“I don’t.” Leaning back, I tented my fingers. “What can I do for you, Ms. Vaughn?”

“It’s Evie, please. And…well, I was hoping you could clear something up for me.”

“What would that be?”

“Why am I here? For a second interview, I mean. You made it pretty clear during the first one that you didn’t think I had the right experience for the position, and I didn’t exactly make a winning first impression in that fitting room. So…why am I here again?”

I folded my arms across my chest and deliberated how to answer. The politically correct and professional response would’ve been to say I’d reconsidered based on how she’d handled herself during the interview. But I’d never been accused of being politically correct or professional.

“Are you sure you want the real answer? Sometimes it’s better not to know and just accept the outcome.”

She folded her arms across her chest, mimicking my posture. “Maybe, but I’d like to know anyway.”

I liked her spunk. It was a challenge to keep myself from smiling. “You were invited back because you are the least qualified of all of the people we interviewed.”

Her face fell, and I felt a tinge of guilt, even though she’d said she wanted the truth.

“Why would you do that?”

“Because hiring an in-house stress coach wasn’t my idea. My board of directors is forcing my hand.”

“Is it a problem because it wasn’t your idea?”

“I employ a hundred-and-twenty-five people whose jobs are to give me ideas.” I shook my head. “No, I don’t have an authority issue, Ms. Vaughn.”

She pursed her lips. “Doctor—it’s Doctor Vaughn. I prefer to be called Evie, but if you insist on using formal etiquette, you might as well use my proper title. I hold a PhD in clinical psychology.”

I couldn’t hold back the smile that time. I nodded. “Fine. No, I don’t have authority issues, Doctor Vaughn.”

“So you’re against the position, in general, and you wanted to hire the worst person to prove a point?”

I nodded once. “You could say that.”

“Are you against therapy?”

“I believe some people can benefit from therapy.”

“Some people? But not your employees? Do you believe your employees don’t have any stress in the workplace?”

“This is Wall Street, Ms.—Doctor Vaughn. If it weren’t a stressful job, my average trader wouldn’t earn seven figures. I just prefer my people to be focused while they’re here in the office.”

“Did you ever consider that you might be looking at things backward? Taking an hour out of the day to speak to someone isn’t what’s interrupting a stressed-out person’s focus. They’re already not focused because of their stress level. Therapy could help center someone so they can concentrate better.”

“Noted that there’s more than one way to look at things.” I studied her for a moment. “Is there anything else you wanted to ask? Or have we reached the point in the discussion where you tell me you hope we never see each other again?”

She smiled shyly. “I’m sorry about that. It wasn’t an appropriate thing to say.”

I shrugged. “It’s fine. Believe it or not, I’ve been accused of being inappropriate a time or two myself.”
She laughed as she stood. “Gee, I never would have guessed that from the man who sniffed me during my interview.” Evie held out her hand. “Thank you for your time. And your honesty.”
